I have SM-P600 2014 edition. Looking for any recommendation to increase DPI. Default is 320 I am thinking of 250. Couldnt do it using BuildProp Editor. I am rooted with stock recovery.
Any suggestions ?
I wouldn't do this if i were you. I heard somebody else tried to do this and after restarting his tablet, it went into a bootloop.
Worst thing that can happen is that you have to flash a firmware via odin
If I remem er correctly there is an app called "pimp my rom" which has tons of options. There you were able to change the dpi. I would perform a backup first and then try

Thanks for the response. How do I backup ? I have not installed custom recovery yet. is there a way to backup through stock recovery ?
Btw I tried changing with BuildProp Editor (always worked on HTC) but for whatever reason after reboot dpi is resetting back to 320.

Best off using Xposed and installing App Settings so you can change individual apps DPI and leave the system ui alone !

DPI
Xposed and App settings - set system and android to 240 dpi.
Keeps the notification bar narrow. Alternatively, use Fullscreen.
Launcher icon size will needs tweaking up and a few other quirks like keyboard. Stock Google keyboard adjusts automatically but others may need tweaking down to around 160 dpi.
Adjust other apps to your personal taste.

I have wanam exposed. Is that what you use? How many different xposed mods are there out there?

He uses "App Settings". Just look into your Xposed Installer App. Go to"download". There you can see the available mods

240 is the best imo. I used Texdroider Dpi to change. Simple and fast, dwl from playstore. free.
Is there a dpi setting that brings the notification drawer to the bottom again?

AFAIK, LineageOS has set to 800 dpi.

Or you could use a custom launcher and set more rows and columns. I use Nova now and have a 8 rows x 6 columns screen.

That is not my concern. I would like to see more of webpages, and generally everything... it's like 480p vs 1080p in the TV world. DPI changes the 'density' of the screen across the whole OS.

Balls.
Normally true but when not on tw roms I've used the following app consistently with no issues. It provides an in-app process that mods the play store apk. Besides, you can always change dpi to stock and get whatever apps you want and revert your dpi. But hey, let's keep giving people half the story.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction I appreciate it. I found this to be a better solution that I counted on.
In case anyone is interested in getting more out of their S3's TW display check out this post and download the zip with 2 apks and install them. Learn more about how this mod works here. The neat thing about this is approach is that it works similarly to how PA roms work. Basically, each app can be individually set with whatever DPI you want on the fly with no need to reboot in order to see changes. I tweaked DPI settings for Nova launcher, Gmail, Web browsers to start and it works on 747z rom for me ATM. I even set the SytemUI.apk to 280. This has a bug that that causes a thin bar under the notification bar to appear; it doesn't bother me though as the tradeoff for more notifications in the pull down is a plus for me. What's nice is you can tailor each apps display however you wish instead of picking one value for the whole OS!
To top it all off, you can leave Play store alone and download apps till tomorrow morning
So I've tried a few of the newer 4.2 ROMs and love the ability to change the system DPI...not just on a per app basis. What I'd like to do is change the DPI on touchwiz ROMs. Is this possible? I have exposed installed and see that I have the option to change the system ui DPI, but it does not seem to do anything.

All you need to do to change DPI on any ROM is edit the build.prop file. But be careful, many bad things can happen if you edit the wrong line.

If you do decide to go ahead with it, rom toolbox lite can do this sort of thing. There are other modders like dpi modder pro but it soft bricked one of my phones, so I'd stick wtih room toobox.
Xposed is working on my phone with stock rom. I had to reboot a few times to get system ui to take. The good thing about xposed to the other modules you can run like call recording and multi dpi playstore.
Hey there!
So I installed MIUI now which is quiet beautiful. Buuuuuuuuuuuuut.... I'm coming from another ROM and used to have my device for a year @ 180dpi - 220dpi. Now... this is just... ugly. The default is set to !!!320DPI!!!. Everything is so big, my grandma could easily hit every icon without her glasses.
So I tried to change the dpi to 220 using Rom toolbox, the only problem: stock keyboard
I really really like the samsung stock keyboard and now that it is back because of MIUI I don't wanna really miss it. I use the numbers really often and it's handy to have a number line just at the top.
>> Is it possible to have a Samsung Stock Keyboard working at 220DPI without any blank gaps and force closes?
Thanks alot!
Use the 240dpi one from bala_gamers thread.

Try this for keyboard http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=&d=1366489557 also when you change the DPI in Miui you will notice that the frame layout of the home screen and settings menu are out of place.

Sir the link to keyboard doesn't work. Do you have an alternative?

Hey buddy , how were you able to bring down the screen dpi to 180 - 220. I am currently using cm 10.1.3 on the note 2 n7100 but i am unable to change the screen dpi. the entire rom looks ugly on the 320 dpi. Just a waste of screen space. Could you help me with the steps you took to reduce the screen dpi from 320 to say 240 or lesser...?
is it possible to change the note 2's screen dpi down?
There are plenty of 240 dpi ROMs. I'm using X note now and it has multiple tablet/phablet dpis with floating multiwindows.

Or you could just change lcd_density in build.prop - but I'd recommend trying out a 240dpi touchwiz based ROM like X Note or Moon ROM. You could also download lcd ddensity changer from play store.
Be aware that if you change the density to 240dpi yourself you'll have to get 240dpi compatible versions of the Samsung keyboard, camera, dialer etc. You can find them in the themes and apps section.

If you use xposed and the app settings apk you can just change the dpi on a per app basis so the apps that only work at 320 can be left. It also gives you the option to select tablet mode on most apps too

Thinking about getting the G3 once I get a upgrade but has anyone changed there dpi to something smaller. Do all the apps work? Does anything crash? What dpi setting right now...

I used Rom toolbox once I was rooted and changed mine to 600. No crashes at all and I tested a bunch of apps.

560 here. The stock value just seemed oddly proportioned. Ya got 5.5 inches, use em!
But I also use Xposed App Settings to assign dpi on a per-app basis.
540 here.

Also using 530 here without any problems.

Xposed / App Settings has no option to put the Smart Notice stuff back at 640dpi?
Nope doesn't fix it.... The LG weather widget fits perfect with 530 .... The smart notice doesn't
After change the resolution to full hd and 530 dpi i can't fix the doc icons, any help please.trying with app settings on xposed
Changing the DPI messes up the QuickCircle case display. Im using ART so xposed is no go to change it.
