After flashing PA 4.2.2 or any other rom in fact, you can easily go back to Sony's stock firmware by using Flashtool by Androxyde or even Sony's official Flashtool.

Hello world,
I want to install this custom rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836993)
The problem is that i'm running the official 2.4.3 android version from sony. They still haven't released the update to ICS for my country
My bootloader is locked and i'm unable to unlock it without paying (Bootloader unlock allowed: No)
Is it possible that i install any custom kernels? Or can i maunally update to ICS, and get the stock ICS kernel? I would install the custom rom with the stock ICS kernel.
I would be thankful if you send me a link for downloading the official ICS and its kernel.
My phone is the Xperia Arc S (LT18i)
Thanks!
No unlocked bootloader, no custom kernel.

Yes, if it is fully stock and officially signed kernel.
That is - you can only flash that kernel via Flashtool .FTF file.
No other way.

And, do you recommend updating my xperia to ICS?

No - ICS on the 2011 Xperia line-up is worthless and not worth it.

If you do want to give ICS a try, flash tool is the first link. The second link is ftf file for LT18i. (The kernel is embedded in to the ftf file). Flash tool is very simple and walks you through the steps.

I do agree with the previous posts by the way that it is slower, but I like the features

Yes, but only with the latest 587 firmware, other official Sony ICS firmware slow you phone and give you a very bad ICS trip

Every fully stock and signed kernel can be installed with locked bootloader. GB and ICS.
Hi there, I have some questions about roms of sony xperia s.
where can I get the newest offical firmware like this: LT26i(4.0.4)_6.1.A.2.55_Generic_SG(1257-6921).rar (.elf file)
can I use Flashtool to flash these offical firmware ?
what dose ICS17.elf mean? I have flashed this file by using fastboot, and got my phone rooted and got a CMW recovery.
many thanks

If you've flashed the ics17 kernel then you've unlocked the bootloader yes?
Then scrap off any ics rom and flash Jellybean

I need official Sony 's rom.
I see. Then flashing the 55 ftf would be best. How come you must have Sony only?

i have 2 friends using Xperia S, while they have updated it to .55 build officially, i cant do it, update center in mobile and in pc shows i have the latest software.
i have .45 build
stock ICS ROM and locked BL
just rooted using binarys script
but the problem was same even before rooting..
You probably must be having different customization than they have. .55 firmware has not been released for every customization.
Or did you ever flash a firmware on your phone ? You bought it new ?
If you wish, you can manually flash a .55 firmware on your phone

Hello.
First, I have Xperia S, 4.1.2, with an unlocked boatloader.
I have some questions:
1. Is there a toolkit to root my Xperia S? Except for flashtool. I saw DoomloRD's toolkit, what do you think about him?
2. Is there a room that brings nexus experience for my phone? Things like nexus 4's keyboard, UI, sounds...
3. Can you also give me another name of a rom, that make the device faster?
4. Is there a new build for the XS? 211 build? Is there an official ftf?
PS: 4 Questions
if your bootloader is unlocked then flash aosp 4.3

ok. well if you have followed the bootloader unlock method then you just need to fastboot a kernel
2. Is there a room that brings nexus experience for my phone? Things like nexus 4's keyboard, UI, sounds...
yeah lots. aosp 4.3 is currently awesome

1. Weird question, either rooting method works or not, since its doomlords work it should work, read the thread and you'll know.
2. Nexus has the almost pure vanilla android so we have some 4.2.2 ROMs and even 4.3 ROM(which is in alpha stage, so I wouldn't recommend it, try 4.2.2 ROMs).
3. Try any custom ROM, especially the without-bloatware and slim ones, try changing kernels. There is no perfect ROMs, you must try some of them and decide which is better, installs some mods(like one that stops launcher redraws).
4. .211 build is a regional update, some minor changes for particular countries I think. If it doesn't pop up at your update centre then you don't miss much. Of course custom ROMs are based on latest .211 firmware so you are probably gonna have it anyway.
There is new update coming for our device but we will probably wait 2-3 weeks till it comes.
Once again - read. Threads have probably most answers for your questions, and reading carefully is the best way to know your device and what is going on in the developers world.

C'mon man, if you checked developement section you would know that for this moment we have one 4.3 rom. I won't give you the link, finding this rom is not that hard.
I recommend p.a.c. ROM on Android 4.2.2

1. I don't know any other flashtool than DoomloRD's version. What? Is there any issues?
2. Yup there are also of "rooms" for Xperia S that are based on AOSP. Use PAC ROOM or Slimbean.
3. What do you mean by "faster"? Trinity ROOM is very smooth and fluid. In terms of performance use custom kernels.
4. 211 is the latest and still has a few bugs. There hasn't been any official news that there will be a new update with bug fixes , but Sony would definitely try to fix it for their own sake.
Here is a Flashtool : http://www.flashtool.net/

OpenSEMC 4.2.2 RC2 - smoothest, fastest, IMHO best ROM at the moment. 4.3 are not yet as stable as 4.2.2 ROMs.
I tried letamas AOSP 4.3 ROM and it is good but it lagged sometimes and misses some options that CM based ROMs are having.

I want the 4.1 ftf so I can obtain m root again and install cmw then I can flash a pre-Rooted 4.3 ftf not only that I wanted to have the option of just rooting 4..2 and skipping 4.3 and going straight to 4.4 I've already had 4.3 on the Xperia T and though it was better than 4.2 on the ZL it came with some minor bugs that I don't even want to deal with plus I will loos some stuff.
