Hello all,
First off merry christmas. Secondly, I got a new phone to replace my waterlogged S4 (dont buy OBEX case.) The great news is that it has MDL on it, not MK2.
I can still access and use my old phone. It just has no menu or back button.
Is there a way to take a backup or image from clockwork recovery and put it on my new S4? What would be the best process and steps to follow?
Thanks in advance for anyone that can help!
Should be pretty straight forward. Make a cwm backup of your old phone. Put it on your SD card.
Root the new phone and and install cwm. Put the SD card with the backup on it in the new phone and restore.

Why not just clean install to avoid potential issues?

If the phones are the same MODEL and from the same Provider (T-Mobile) you should be easily able to do it.
First requirement tho is that the new phone should be Rooted like the old one. (I presume it is as you have had CWM backups on the old phone)
Install CWM on the new one, and make a backup and name the backup as "original" or something that you will know it's of the new phone.
Connect the OLD phone to your computer and look in the folder where your OLD CWM Backup was done.
Copy the entire Blockworkmod/backup folder to a folder on your computer's hard drive (anywhere that is easy for you to find later)
Then disconnect the old phone and connect the new one.
Copy the clockworkmod\backup folders CONTENTS to the new phone's Clockworkmod/Backup folder.
You should then be able to get into recovery mode and do a CWM Restore from the file(s) you copied to it.
the old phone (if you didn't backup to an external SDCard) would have the backups stored in
Data/Media/clockworckmod
if you cannot see it using your computer, you can try using ADB to get the file and put on your computer and then later copy it to the new phone.
an External SDCard would be much easier (I'm not sure if you know how to use ADB tho.)
if you didn't have an External SDCard, your backup is located in Data/Media/clockworckmod
Hope this helps you....
Aloha and Good Luck!

Help a friend accidently wiped her sd card how do i get it mounted to computer thru usb to transfer an old nandroid for her or a new rom? and is there anything else I need to do?
Just plug the phone via USB to a computer. It should recognize it automatically. If not, reboot into recovery, select the MS-USB option and wait for the drive icon to appear on your computer. Afterwards, transfer any file you want. As for the nandroid you mentioned, please make sure it is a backup made from her device ONLY! If you're transferring a backup made from a different EVO, and your friend decides to restore it on her device, she will be asking for trouble.

Yes I knew only to use one of her old ones couldnt get the phone comp to reconise the phone so i used an alternate sdcard and my phone to dl and flash a new rom then backup and restore her old nandroid.
before writing any new files on the card, I suggest that you try Recuva, I managed to recover all the files on my card when it got wiped a while ago (though I still don't know how it happened!).

I follow exactly the steps to recovery the phone and it was successfully recovered with my dad's original ROM but i can't get again the 3G conection...
i tested with my dad's SIM to be secure, but nothing... what do i do....?
3G connectivity issue usually caused by wrong or missing APN (Access Point Names) setting.
I suggest:
check Wireless settings -> Mobile networks -> APNs or Access Point names.
Check the same settings in your dad's phone
The chilean ROM in my topic (S5360L_UHKL1_CHLKL1_UHKL1) supports base settings for network carrier "Claro" only. If you have other network, then you have to set up the APN manually. Check this page: http://wiki.apnchanger.org/Chile

if you have the same network as ur dad and his 3G is working, try using titanium backup and back up ur dads phone, and copy the titanium backup created in ur dads SD to ur SD, also you need to install in ur phone titanium backup to and restore all system data from ur dads backup ^_^
that should solve it if u only lack APN
I had to have my note2 replaced I did a twrp backup placed it on new phone in the backup twrp folder but it is not recognized. Anyone have any possible solutions? Really all I'm after is game data that was backed up,and I'm not sure where to find that particular file in the backup thanks.
pretty sure u wouldnt wanna do a full nandroid restore of your partitions to another device... but as far as your game data goes.... you can use titanium backup to recover the apk and the game data by extracting from the nandroid backup file.
I've tried to do this before. It won't work.

Hey buddy. New device just start fresh. Safest way...
Hey,
I was on the same boat as u. I got it to work. I can remember the specifics at the moment but gist of it is that twrp creates a specific backup folder unique to each device. Open up an file browser and navigate over to where u have your backup. If theyre o. Your sd card it should be TWRP > BACKUPS > (Here u should find 2 folders with a bunch of random letters and numbers)
Those 2 folders are your backup folders. One was from your old device and the other is the folder twrp created for your new device.
When u reeboot into recovery, twrp wont recognize the old backup folder since it was unique to your old phone.
Long story short. Lol. Just go into the old folder from the file browser and copy the backup to the new back up folder.
After that, delete the old backup folder. Your backup should then show up when you boot into recovery.
As for which is the old and which is the new folder. My best bet is tbat the new folder is empty and the old folder has your backup.
Hope that helps.
Let me know if you need more help.
Hey guys,
I am a total noob at all this rooting stuff. I have had my S3 for several years now and am still pretty happy with it, but I like technical work and decided to get the most out of my phone. I have been trying to figure some things out and have read alot of posts but still a little hazy. The best way to avoid hours of fixing something you broke out of ignorance? Double check with the pros.
Android version 4.3
So here is what I have done so far: I made a samsung smart switch backup of my phone then followed this posts instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793071 . Worked great. I am all rooted, I have superSU installed. Everything went fine. because it sounded like a good utility I downloaded ROM manager from the playstore (from this post's recommendation http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2135588 . I set up and ran the clockwork recovery app, it did a weird boot and screen and proceeded to run a backup. I cannot find that backup file but it says it made one and when i tired its remote backup download server (which is only for premium users) it showed a backup even through I could not download it. Then I downloaded titanium backup * root from the playstore and I had it backup system and user apps. After failing to find my titanium back up (it made 306 backups? ok......) I created a new folder in my SD card and routed the backups there. I open that folder and found a ton of files with GZ extension. I copied that whole folder (1.4gb) onto my computer.
That is what I have do to this point. I want to use the Cryogen ROM so I went to their site and found my phone model (https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/D2tmo_Info). That page has a big warning about incompatible ICS Bootloader and tells me to update my firmware. I would be fine with running slightly older version of Cryogen, pre 10.1 but A) security concerns and B) I dont think what they have posted are the stable releases and C) no recovery (i have no idea what that is supposed to do,. recover what?) At that point I stopped and did some research but came away not at all enlightened. A lot of posts talk about other utilities such as adb, Odin, and so on but I am clueless. If I haven't mentioned a program or an action assume I dont have it or have not done it.
Also, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2135588 mentions booting into recovery mode and making two backups (one to each sd card and phone) I want to be as safe as possible but all these backups are eating up alot of space. Do they all need to be stored on my phone at all times? Which ones can I copy to my computer for storage and delete from my phone?
Things I want to do:
--create good backups
--transfer as many backups as possible to my computer
-- install Cryogen ROM
What are the next few steps?
My current thinking is to boot into recovery mode and create backups as specified in the noobs guide. Transfer those backups to my computer. Then use ROM manager to install cryogen v12.1. (firmware update? need? how?). I am not taking any further action until I hear back from this thread, but I just wanted to explain my current plan of action which is probably incorrect.
I really appreciate any help you fine folks can give.
Edit: after doing all the titanium backups stuff i talked about I returned to home page... my background has changed. WTH?
Edit2: I went ahead and ran two backups in clockwork recovery mode, one to sdcard and one to sdcard1 ( I assume to phone card and external card). I found a bunch of files in the SD card's clockwork file. My device and card are running low on space, I need to get the backups onto my comp. Holding off until I find out if I need to keep a backup on the device at all times.
Edit 3: I keep getting a pop up that says t-mobile account app has stopped working.
In order to run the latest CM ROM for the T999, recommend installing the latest bootloader and modem on the phone. I recommend using the latest CM ROMs to help ensure that the phone is running the latest security patches.
To determine the baseband and bootloader on the phone, download and install the Samsung Phone Info app from the play store and run it.
I am stuck in a confusing situation I cant get out of and am in serious trouble.
My work Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 LTE (T325), after more than 2 years of perfect service fell to the ground and broke in a million pieces this morning. I had CM11 on it and had done a TWRP backup just yesterday onto the external MiniSD Card. So, I went to a second hand shop phone shop in the afternoon and found another T325 just like mine in good shape with stock 4.4.2 Samsung TouchWiz ROM.. just white instead of white, but no matter. I immediately rooted it and flashed TWRP.. all good.
I booted into TWRP and first thing I did was to make a backup of the stock ROM to the internal SD Card and also the external MiniSD Card (just to be safe). But after I made the safety backup, when I went into restore, TWRP CANT find it the old backup of my other Tab on the external MiniSD Card. It can only see the new backup I had just made, both on the internal and external memory!
Confused, I booted up the Tab again, and using Root Explorer (with full root access) the first strange thing I noticed was that inside the TWRP folder on the root directory of the internal SD card, its "empty".. but the new backup I just made is actually there.. if I go to the root folders under MNT, there I can see perfectly the very same TWRP folder with the backup sub-folder inside! So why its not showing up when browsing \Emulated\0 TWRP folder? I dont understand this one. Anyway, next I went into my external MiniSD Card, and indeed I have now 2 backups inside the TWRP folder, the old backup from my old Tab that I want to restore and the new backup I had just made, each in their own sub-folder structure as they should be.
So, I rebooted into TWRP recovery and again and I can ONLY see both the new internal and external backups I just made, but NOT the old backup I need to recover from.. it just doesn't show up! Such a mystery has never happened to me before. This is the same Tab, same model, same old TWRP version (2.7.1.0) and using the original external MiniSD Card. Where am I going wrong? I can see the file names inside the new and old backup are different.. is this the problem? Why is the same TWRP version on a new Tab generating different file names than the same TWRP of the old Tab?
To be specific, the new (recoverable) backup folder has the following files:
\TWRP\10d401a5\2014-02-05--07-03-30 KOT49H.T325ZSU1B0B4\
boot.emmc.win
data.ext4.win
system.ext4.win000
system.ext4.win001
recovery.log
The old (not-recoverable) backup folder that I want to restore from, has the following files:
\TWRP\d59ee67a\2014-03-09--08-44-04 cm_mondrianlte-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84Q b9f00\
boot.emmc.win
data.ext4.win000
data.ext4.win001
system.ext4.win
recovery.log
Any advice on this is greatly appreciated and I apologize in advance if its me missing something obvious or just being plain stupid!
Thanks again!!!
I suspect the d59ee67a \ 10d401a5 are generated from the tablet serial number, so twrp will only look in the folder for the current serial number match, which is why it won't show the other backup.
I would assume you could copy the file contents from your old backup into the new twrp folder then restore, as long as you are sure the tablets are identical, have the same bootloader and same memory sizes...etc
so basically try to copy the folder "2014-03-09--08-44-04 cm_mondrianlte-userdebug 4.4.4 KTU84Q b9f00" to TWRP\10d401a5\

Wow, yes, thank you very much for the reply! I had no idea that each hardware generates a specific number by which TWRP tags the folder. This is why the backup of the old Tab is not found because its inside the folder with the number of the older hardware. I followed your recommendation and simply moved the old backup into the subfolder of the new backup I had made and instantly TWRP could see it and I made a successful restore!
This is a very import tip to know and I cant thank you enough for sharing it with me! Thanks again
