One California man is thanking his lucky stars that he decided to buy an HTC Evo 3D. Yesterday morning the phone stopped a bullet that would otherwise have hit him in the chest.
It’s a scene right out of an old Western flick, except that the pocket-sized Bible has been replaced by a 4.3-inch Android smartphone. A look at the back of the Evo reveals that its most volatile components (the battery) played an important role in stopping the slug.
Obviously the victim will be in the market for a new phone now. If HTC’s marketing department has an ounce of common sense, they’ll leap at the chance to work this into their Iron Man campaign and get a brand new phone into this guy’s hands as quickly as possible.
This isn’t the first time an HTC phone has stopped a bullet, either. You may recall an eerily similar incident that occurred back in 2011, where an Atlanta nightclub valet’s life was saved by an Evo 4G. Yes, that’s another Sprint variant.
Is it possible that the Sprint/HTC collaboration is yielding some breed of superphones? Clearly one other thing Droid does is stand up to small caliber rounds.
Unapologetically plastic? That’s a slogan that works for some. Others might prefer the sound of something a bit more dramatic, and if HTC can’t find a way to capitalize on a second live-saving, bullet-stopping phone then the company deserves to be absorbed by a competitor and fade into oblivion.

haha, yeah...It's true, HTC could replace the mobile and use it for marketing... It is definitely the best build in the android mobile market...

They should really use that for marketing, would catch the attention of people with cracked phones!

New business opportunities for HTC. Manufacturing of body armour.

c'mon guys, we're right there
I realise the whole thing is kinda pointless... but what are the bets that Android/iPhone/every-other-OS users are voting WebOS?
but yeah would be pretty funky to see WP7 crowned King. My votes been counted anyway

Pretty high, they're jelly that their run-down boring OSes with only good apps to back them up didn't get anywhere.

Many people would argue that a mobile OS is only as good as the apps available to it. Accordingly, this "OS bowl" is rediculously flawed. The only way that WP7 winning would make any sense is if the primary criteria for voting was "most untapped potential"

Haha , the votes are only from the people who bought the phones. Sad.

That would totally explain the fact that android and iphone booth with definitively higher market shares got raped. I mean it wasnt even a close game for either. It's all about OS... WP7 is in my opinion the best OS apps aside, in a business user though I could see palm being the best. Android and iphone have all the app backing in the world but this isn't a "Who has the best developer support bowl." It's an OS bowl and the top two teams are there accordingly.
Not nearly as sad as your stalking and trolling - do you even have a WP7?
I think his initial excuse was "I'm considering getting one." Followed by a 3 page list going on about the few features that have yet to been included.
It'll probably be at least 5 years til we know the top three

I'm from Cologne (Köln).
Maybe the event will be at the (2008 opnened) Microsoft building at the Rhein in Cologne.
Yes, it's a giant M(icrosoft) with its own Lufthansa Check in and Marina.
If its in a smaller location it can be at 4010 (a new Concept Stor by Deutsche Telekom).
http://4010.com/home?loc=Köln
sorry but Nokia do not show any devices to this event
http://thisismynext.com/2011/08/02/nokia-microsoft-windows-phone-gamescom/
I really hope we see some WP7 devices from Nokia, soon. I always liked their phones in the pre-Smartphone area and hope that their Windows phones will be as good as their old stuff used to be.
More to the point, Nokia need to get there devices now, certainly before the next iphone, as soon as that comes out it will be game over as far as building any momentum is concerned. If it comes out before hand and its the n9 design as leaked (great design by the way) and its pushed heavily with advertising across the board then they might stand a chance.
Its all well and good being hush hush on future devices, but on a launch like this with a new phone on a new os (for them at least), they need lots of stock, lots of advertising, and they need confirmed dates that the public can await and look forward to. So far Nokia have been far to slow yet again to react, which is the reason there in this mess to begin with.
my 2cents anyway.
Unless I am WOWed, I'll stick with old HTC...good dependable phones for the most part....
I hope the first Noika models to the US are fully maxed out with front camera and all the bells you can wish for. Not the low end, low price point models they are talking about.
Mayby they show a N-GAGE like Windows Phone 7.5 for Gamers!?
IMO a phone with Joypad-like Buttons and Xbox LIVE (more great games will come after Mango release with all the new API) would be THE phone for Gamers.
Day one for me!
I will be there with my hawkeyes. Strength of the hawk
Check out todays BING picture!
This can't be randomly...
I'm excited they've always had the best hw

Nokia World 2011

Nokia World 2011
Live blog from Engadget here
We have pretty much seen the leaked shots of the hardware, what else is everyone waiting to hear about?
I'm really excited to see what type of changes/additions/apps Nokia will bring to the WP7.5 experience.
I also pray the Ace is a real device.
I also want extensive hands on videos and impressions of all the hardware.
Release dates/Prices/Carrier info
We haven't seen the Nokia Ace, waiting to see what that's like before I (Hopefully) buy a 64gb Nokia 800.
I hope we get some really good videos of the hardware too, and if the Ace isn't real I'm going to sulk They look beautiful phones. Hopefully they are going to make me go shopping. More than individual handsets though I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do in terms of marketing the platform; a mobile giant such as Nokia could make all the difference in getting the world to take notice of WP7.

Which confirms this leak from pocket-lint a while back: http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/42352/nokia-ace-windows-phone-7
Not as uniquely exciting as the Lumia 800 but will satisfy the big screen needs of users.

Where are the 32GB devices ????

[Offtopic] Iphone5 Vs. Nexus

Hey Guys, a friend of mine told me about an auction on ebay. I kinda really don´t understand the world anymore the iphone5 was sold for 1510€ in germany.
(1510 € = 1.945,182 US-Dollar)
It´s really hard to understand for me that people are gonna buy a phone for nearly 2000$. Atm i´m very happy with my GNex. It´s amazing fast, smooth and costs about 300€ in germany. someone could have 5 Gnex´s instead of one Iphone
It´s hardly understandable for me, why people buy a phone at such high costs with a hardware that´s nothing special today.
it has got a very strange resolution (1.136 x 640). i mean, dafaq, no one is using it, they just chose this xy bla resolution to get as close as possible to the form of the old one. the gnex has got the 720p hd standard, mx player for example can easily play hd videos, even mkv. u´re also forced to use itunes... in the direct comparison to the auction, this version of the iphone5 had 64gb space, but does this excuse the high price? and would the galaxy s3 not be a better alternative?
sorry guys, meanwhile i really hate apple they still get people to buy their phones, which aren´t bad, but so damn expansive and got a lot of limitations in the software.
really can´t understand that, just because it´s apple?!

thank you for your informative (not really) post about iphone5. Please file this in the iphone cabinet with the 30 other threads talking about that phone and not the nexus.

OP, people buy the iPhone for the brand not what's inside. The reputation of iPhone's are easy to use devices, while most people still see Android as an ugly, slow updates, pain in the ass to use OS. Android's image is changing but people still think the iPhone is the go to phone, period, end of story and will pay whatever they have to to get one.

How can the largest employer in South Korea screw up so bad?

I wonder how such a screw up can happen? Weren't the batterys stress tested? Did the manufacturer change the manufacturing after the samples were approved? Is the CEO going to resign?
you're so weird. calm your ass down. **** happens, you ever heard of the Toyota recall?

Yup. Samsung isn't the first. They won't be the last.
Don't forget Boeing, no need for Note 7 to blow when their own batteries did. This is what happens when we want more energy density, when **** goes wrong, boom.

Apple phones have been blowing up since 2009 and even killing people read world news. At least Samsung is addressing it and taking no care how much it will cost them which is billions. Apple hasn't done a thing ever.

I went to McDonalds last night, and they had a recall notice posted on the drive-thru window. Recalling some kind of "activity watch", it can overheat and cause burns.
No offense to any south koreans here.. but South Korea as such is very morally bankrupt. Samsung is no different. They lie, cheat and do all kinds of things to make a buck. This is a glaring omission or cost cutting that they tried to do with inferior batteries which turned out to be not only defective, but dangerous.

My kids have that watch, lol. They were running around with it on when I first read about it. Just tell them they ran so fast it caught fire trying to keep up.
