It had been a long time issue with the android not able to receive group messages even with group message setting enabled (only send to multiple recipients and to receive under multiple threads).
I migrated from DanDroid 4.1.2 to Sutan ROM 4.3 and I was able to send & to receive group messages from multiple people under ONE thread. I had been tried to find a method for group messaging under 1 threads, but it wasn't very successful.
I really don't like third party apps as much either. What are you experience with group messaging with the new 4.3 update?
I use the stockmod ROM(November build) and it works just fine.
Although if you use Tablet Talk, some of your texts will come out blank(not all, some) when you send a message through a tablet. It was flawless on AOSP but it is what it is.
If you don't use Tablet Talk, disregard the 2nd part.

My wife's S3 is not rooted, running stock and the latest update...but a lot of times, when group texting with iPhone users, she misses about 1/2 the messages because on her phone there is a "Download" button and the messages never download (get the "Message Not Downloaded" error). She's using GoSMS and I've manually set the APN to http://mms.sprintpcs.com, 68.28.31.7, port 80 as found in another thread, but no luck.
Any suggestions? I have the Note 2 and haven't had this problem at all using GoSMS. Of course, I don't do a ton of group texting, so maybe I just haven't experienced the issue yet. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Sturmie
I am rooted and use handcent sms and I have the same issue. I haven't figured it out yet buy suspect it'sbecause most sms apps treat group messages as mms.

Its iPhone messaging. User sends out a group text and it comes through as MMS but only iPhone users can respond.

Not true (about only iPhone users being able to respond)...3rd party messaging apps (or possibly updated Android OS releases) have allowed us the same luxury of group texting that iPhone users have...and for the most part, it works well, but occasionally, some "MMS" messages seem to have trouble coming through.

Is there a particular 3rd party messaging app that works better than others for group MMS?
Galaxy S3, AT&T, running Jelly "Beans" R15 4.1.2.
I'm using the AOSP messaging apk that comes with the ROM. regular messages do not get duplicated, just MMS. I don't see multiple sent messages on my phone but whenever I send an MMS to someone (other android phones, iphones, other carriers as well), they will get 10, 20, or even 30 duplicates of this message, spaced over multiple days. My phone appears to be sending and resending this same MMS picture like it has a mind of it's own.
My brother also has a Galaxy S3, running the same Jelly 'Beans' ROM R15, using the same AOSP messaging app that comes with the ROM. The only difference in our phones and software setup is that my is an AT&T phone and his is a Verizon version.
Has anyone had this problem or know a solution to it?
TL;DR: my phone sends the same MMS to the recipient about 30 times without that being reflected in my messaging app
Thanks!
I believe I have found the problem...
I had request delivery report checked in the message app settings. I believe the people I sent the MMSs to weren't sending this return message which was causing the AOSP messaging app to continuously resend whenever it had a chance.
So far no more repeat messages...Will update if it comes back
Let me preface this by saying that I'm not sure if this is a ROM issue or a general issue so I'm posting in both locations to get more coverage.
I've been running Newt's GPE ROM for a while now with very few problems and am very satisfied. However, today I received what I believe is a group message from several iPhones that my friends own. Only one of the messages actually got through, the rest just show delivery reports and empty messages. I am able to get messages from single iPhones and am also fairly sure I can do group messaging with several other android devices.
I'm using the Google default messaging app, and have allowed group message SMS. Any insight as to what is going on?
I have had cm11 installed for several months. I cannot receive messages from Iphones in a group message. All other messages are fine from all other phones. If someone with an iphone sends me a direct message I receive it. However if I am in a group message with iphones thier messages are blank. Does anyone know how I can fix this.
I am running the most recent CM11 nightly. I was always able to get MMS from Iphones on stock. Since rooting and installing CM11 I cannot receive group messages from Iphones. It just comes in as a blank message.
My data is on. I have tried adjusting VPN settings (although maybe incorrectly). I would have posted this in the Official CM11 thread but I dont have enough post. I have been on the site for years I just read and never post.

Is there no one that knows or knows someone with the answer to this. I cannot be the only one. I have a E970.
I'm running stock Oreo 8.0.0 on Samsung S9 using the bundled texting app.
When I receive group texts from an iPhone user, I only see myself as a recipient; the other recipients aren't listed.
Also when I reply to what I happen to know is a group text, my reply only goes to the sender rather than to the group members.
Is there a setting I'm missing or do I need to use a different text messaging app?
I use the default messaging app on my stock S9 (VZW) and I don't have this problem. Half my family use Android-based phones and the others use iPhones. Our group conversation work just fine. However, all of the group conversation I am involved in include people already in my contacts. I'm wondering if your missing recipients is related to who is in your contacts?

Nope, the problem shows up even with those in my contact list.
Maybe I'll try a random texting app and see what happens.
Other apps exhibit the same problem. Anyone have any insight into this problem?
