I have made a reset for my Nexus and then when I have opened the gallery I see that it didn't recognize my photos in the DCIM folder and also 3rd apps like flayvur don't recognize the photos too.
Not only with the photos also with the play Music when I opened it didn't recognize any music it just show up "add music, copy music to your phone with a USB cable"
Don't know why is this fool, when I open the ES File Explorer my photos my mp3 are there and they are working well so what's this!

If you are rooted, use RESCAN MEDIA ROOT from Play store, it should do the job

Is there any way to separate podcast mp3s from Google music? My podcasts are infiltrating my artist list and recently played view.
I don't think so without changing the genre to podcast or something, though it won't get rid of it from the recently played list
Google does have it's own podcast app called Listen which is pretty old but works. You can dump also your already downloaded episodes to /sdcard/com.google.android.apps.listen/
Just an alternative
Is there a location I can store my podcasts where music spent search?

Put a .nomedia file in the folder where the podcasts are. You might meet to reboot afterwords.

also, if you use beyondpod there's an option to "share media miles" that's enabled by default. Unchecked it then clear user data for the media storage app and reboot/rebuild your library. Can't remember if there's an option like that on dogcatcher but ever since switching to beyondpod its the best podcast player in my opinion.

I added a blank .nomedia file using Root Explorer and rebooted, but when my feeds updated, they are all seen in Google Music.
I am using Doggcatcher at the moment.

I use doggcatcher too, and what I did was create a folder in the sd and named it .nomedia
I then moved all my podcast stuff there.
Make sure you go to doggcatcher settings and change the location of your podcasts to that location.
Next you need to go to app settings and delete all google music app data so it can rebuild it's cache and scan the sd card again.

I've seen some references to that online, but it doesn't seem to exist on my copy of BeyondPod (version 2.9.15). After going into Advanced Settings (which is hidden in a very WTF-esque manner), where it allegedly resides, there simply isn't a share podcasts / media files setting to be found.
Where do you find this beastie?

I know this is a really extreme solution but have you tried Pocket Casts? I used to be a huge fan of beyond pod also until I tried Pocket Casts. Its way more pretty and easy to use.

The thing with .nomedia files on ICS seem to work only after you clear the cache in manage apps-> all-> media storage
I switched to BeyondPod, which doesn't have this issue.
Thanks!

I second pocketcasts in terms of ease of use and appearance.
.nomedia file doesn't work with pocket casts, but creating .nomedia folder and moving podcasts there worked.

It's in 'Playlist and Widget Settings' these days.
I tried .nomedia and it didn't work for me. I use BeyondPod and PlayerPro now. It has a feature to only scan music from a certain folder.

I have some photos in my SD card which showed up properly in the gallery before. However, all those photos don't show up after I flashed a new Rom. Only photos taken after flashing are showed in the gallery. I tried to reboot, wipe cache, rescan media but nothing success.
Any one can help?

Yes, because different Roms use different folders for gallery. Just take a picture and browse your card and see where it puts it (somewhere in DCIM folder). After locating the folder just move the photos from old folder to the new one where your picture was taken and you should now see all your photos.(Some roms put pictures in folder named "100Andro", other in "pictures", "images", "camera".....

Yes, I toke a testing picture, located the new folder "Camera" and move all old photos to there. But still just the testing picture is shown up. All moved old pictures are still missing in the gallery. Already reboot to renew the media library.
Can you try using a 3rd party pic viewer I use quickpic, which seems to work well.

try some of these
- clear all defaults for the gallery app
- clear all data
- take out and put back in sd card
- make another gallery app the default and then reboot, clear defaults and revert default back to the stock gallery app
with my other androids, (MyTouch 4g, One S, One X)
I open iTunes and my Phone/Internal/SDcard
and would just highlight the songs in iTunes and drag over to Phone Storage.
Here with the GS3 I get a (\) Not Available sign and it wont go through.
What am I missing here?
I don't know about iTunes (I stopped using it), but I was able to just open the SD card folder and the folder with the music and was able to copy and paste that way.

I'm assuming you have a google account, if you do you can upload your entire itunes library to google music using your desktop computer and then you have access to your library with your phone. If you don't want to use cloud-based, just find your itunes folder on your computer and transfer those songs to your sd card. IMO the google music is the easiest way to do it and it doesn't take up storage space on your phone.

You can also flag artists, playlists, tracks, etc etc to be downloaded and kept local through google music as well

You don't iTunes to do the job of transfering your music to your phone. The galaxy s3 storage type is a different kind of type than previous devices, its mpti or something similar to that i believe so it doesn't mount like an sd card it mounts like some device which windows recognizes.
Why don't you just browse to your music directory and just open up your my computer Sg3 device then select either internal or external storage and drag your music files from your local music folder to your galaxy s3 sd card or internal storage.
To get your music into itunes in the first place you must have dragged your music into itunes or imported your music from your local pc music folder so therefore you can do the same thing for the gs3, drag your music from your local folder to your gs3 device. itunes is for iphones its crappy.
Make a new folder on your desktop, drag the files from iTunes to that folder, then from that folder to your gs3. Just gotta add that extra step.
Osman, iTunes organizes the music into folders by artist then by album so doing it that way would take A LOT of time.
Good question, I've always sort of wanted to grab some of my older music from iTunes. You're right though, Apple does suck a hard one!

Get doubletwist. And download one for PC too. Whatever is in your itunes will show up in doubletwist. Then you can air sync your music (paid addon) or usb
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
You could always use the official software Samsung Kies which fully supports importing music from iTunes and transfering music to the device as well as backing the device up.
You could use a script.
I found one that syncs a playlist to a folder. I just have all the songs i want on my phone in a playlist and it syncs right to my music folder when connected.
Although i store my music on my external SD card..
I am running CM 71. My SD card was filling up so I moved my music to /emmc. I can browse to it via Root Explorer and play any song, same for Astro. However, "Music" app no longer sees it and I see no way for it to refresh content or point to specific folder.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
I don't think the media scanner scans emmc. No fix that I know of.

I use Google Play Music. It works great, and you dont have to fill up your phone with music. You just upload your songs to googles servers and play it from your phone, tablet, google tv, or a pc. And the best part is its free, and they give you tons of storage space.
Morning All,
I have just had to reset my galaxy note 2 to factory settings. I recovered my account using google, and copied all my photos etc back across.
Anyway the stock gallery app is not displaying all my media like photos and videos, they are definatly on the phone as using a file explorer app i can locate them no problem. I have tried moving them to a different folder, ie media instead of pictures but they still will not show in gallery.
I have also tried a 3rd party gallery app to no avail.
The device isnt rooted and is using android 4.4.2
Muchos appreciate your help
