Welcome to XDA! Reboot your phone. If it doesn't work, Try another card to check if it's the card's problem or the phone's problem. If it works with another card, it would be the card's problem. Try formatting the card. If that fails, your card's dead. If it doesn't work with another card, it would be the phone's problem. Try another ROM/kernel to make sure it's not a ROM/kernel issue. If the problem still persists, it's your phone's hardware problem. Bring it to a Samsung service centre to get it checked.

Formatting helped me. Not from the phone. Used windows (quick format). Never had an issue after that.

thanks for help Irwenzhao,
i already did all what you mentioned.
this is what i did:
1-format SD card via phone.
2-format SD card via windows laptop.
3-change SD card with new one.
Its not the 1st time facing this problem, i had 32GB SD card, also had this problem, replaced it with 16GB still the same, this happens since the first time i bought my note 2. maybe its software issue.
anyway thanks for all for help. i think i should live with this problem till buying new one

Exactly. This is most probably a sign that the SD card is "dying". You can prolong it's life by backing up what's readable and formatting then restoring, but I'd be carefull about the card and not leave imporant data on it w/o backup.

Is it ok to copy ALL folders and files (including hidden etc) from one card to the other, then just use it? Or do I need to format the new card from the phone or some other procedure? cheers
I just copied the whole lot to my new 16GB and put it in and worked just like before but with more space
Thats great. Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for the feedback.

I've done almost the same as you but I've done one extra step. Put in the new 16gb card to the phone and then through settings, format the card..... then do all the copying!
That way everything works
i copied from a 4 gb card to an 8 gb card with no issues and no pre formatting of the card on the desire. I think your market issue might be unrelated. Maybe try restarting your phone, checking your network content restriction setting and accessing over WiFi not 3g.

cheers guys, not sure what started the issue. but i could sort it out the usual way as stated above. quick call to t-mobile this morning they took the lock off, but couldnt tell me why it happened.
thanks for the replies all. Good info. I will ut the blank 16gb in phone and format via settings. Then I'll put the 4gb back in phone, copy everything off it onto PC, put 16gb card in phone, copy everything on. Job done. We hope. Will report back if any problems. cheers.
Yup just transfer everything across to a bigger capacity card
Been using this 8gb microsd for a over 2 months and never had a problem was always flashing different roms until last week while i was running sense 2.04 the card just suddenly stopped working completely!
no phone can read it! tried it on a few nokia phones and my htc magic with no luck!
tried the card reader to see if it needs format but the reader can't read it and the reader does work i tried it with other cards...
Does anyone or have an idea what I can do to get it working again? I just want to get my photos on it even if i somehow have to format i can always use a recovery software to get the files back but it's not getting recognized... probably a hardware issue? anyone with any help would be appreciated !
Had the same problem, managed to copy stuff off onto pc but cannot re-format the card.
It says it is locked.
Not really the same thing... I can't even copy my files because it doesn't get detected at all! and now just tried a different card reader so again it doesn't seem to be the reader that the issue... could it be truly dead?
I've had that happen on my G1.
Grab an Ubuntu live disk, boot from it and then plug in your memory card reader with your microsd. It should read it and then you can copy your files over to your HDD. It shouldnt be too hard. If you have an ext partition it will also read that and you can copy the contents over to your hdd. Then using Gparted, you can repartition your sd card and then copy your stuff back over.
this happened to me about 6 weeks back - Desire and WinXP would not mount the card at all, manged to mount it through ubuntu but only got a couple of files (photos) back off the card. Back to the 4Gb as supplied sd just now
Hmm just tried ubuntu guys and didn't seem to get any luck... any other ideas? thx.

I got same problem with froyo, my card is dead. I tried with all methods but no luck.
Yea i thought i would just post that my desire has also killed my 8gb class 2 memory card, no computer will properly recognize it. Cannot format it or anything.
If i brought a 16gb class 6 do you think the phone will kill that as well, just dont wana waste $80.
When this happened to my 4GB card. I booted the phone into recovery mode. Selected 'MS-USB-Toggle' and the PC then picked it up. Was able to copy photos off the card and reformat it.
Give that a try?
If you still don't come right, I think it is safe to say the card is dead. May have just been a faulty card, rather than the phone killing it. (Don't see how that would even be possible, anyway)
put your micro sd in a sd-card adaptor and format via digital-camera.
camera can format killed cards.

Hmmm, not so sure about that. Normally a dead card is a dead card. End of.
However give it a try - will be surprised if it works.
To add another phone to the list: my old HTC Hero toasted my 16GB SDHC.
Yep when I got my first desire it cooked a 16Gb Sandisk card... worked fine for almost 18 months in my Touch HD... less than a week in the Desire... toast!
Me too.
My Desire seems to have fried my 16Gb Sandisk card, although I'm still trying to work out if it's a genuine card as it looks different to my other sandisk cards but the seller assures me it's real. Lost my holiday photos!!!
Just bought another 16Gb card, will see how that goes.
Going to email HTC and see what they say.

I second that, they do particularly well
You can also try a low level format tool
I have used this one before - oldie but goodie - http://hddguru.com/software/2006.04.12-HDD-Low-Level-Format-Tool/ but there are others
this has hapened to my lexar 16gb card.
Ihave a rooted desire; I went into the recovery menu, formatted the card to fat32 100%.
I then plugged it into my w7pc. did a low level format, dskchk-check and fix bad blocks.
then reformatted to ext: 512 and the rest fat32 in my device, been working ever since.

And i can't even find those options anywhere in the settings and usb debugging also isn't working.Pls help me ASAP!
My 16gb SD card also does this. Before it started though, all of my music files on it became damaged, but would still play partially, then end prematurely. I think this may just be cheap ass SD manufacturing. I say just boycott SD and get the Samsung card.
Solution / Fix:
Install Wake Lock PowerManager on google play. Enable Partial_Wake_Lock then viola! No more unmounted / eject problems. The problem is everytime your mobile is in sleep mode, the unmounting error occurs.
Also install SD Card Monitor to check the counter of mounted/unmounted/ejected sdcard.
Hope this helps.

Eject the card.
Copy *all* files within the old card into the new card.

for an exact solution, i formatted everything (phone, internal sd, external sd by following the "go pristine" procedure).
then put the new update zip files to re-install the rom, open the phone in CWM mod.
CWM saw the contents of the ext.sd and i started installing zip file.
CWM was saying that it is installing the zip, however it was doing nothing as there were no further progress of installation.
at that point i figured out that my phone and my new sdhc class 10 ext.sd card are not able to communicate in a healthy way.
card is working in laptop, but has trouble working in the phone. most probably card was corrupted at the first stage while i am buying iti from store.
so i am giving up this.
just fyi.

Hi,
here is what i did last hour.
formatted again in "default" format and tried to re-install rom from ext.sd.
During first attempt, attached screen does not changed for 30 minutes, so i gave up again and force to shut down the phone by pressing down power button for 8 seconds.
I thought the phone will shut down only, but it restared in CWM mode. Then i gave another try and this time phone processed the zip file.
so far no new problems but let you know in case of one.
use that Rom RemICS 1.7

Greetings everyone,
I tried finding a solution for this problem for quiet a while now already, but I simply can't find one.
I have a 64gb sdxc card by Sandisk and it doesn't work properly anymore.
The problem is, that it restores the partition always over and over again when I try to partition or format the sd card.
Like when I delete the partition and apply the changes and the card is beeing mounted again, it shows the same partition with the same files again before I deleted it.
Is there a way to fix this? Because except from that problem it works as it should.
Could it be that write protection issue I've read about here?
It first appeared when I used Omnirom for a while on my S3
Thanks in advance for your help :good:

How old is the card? Any noticeable cracks, burns, or damage to the contact on the card?
Your card might be bad, I have had a bad experience with sandisk memory cards , i bought one and had to exchange it 5 times for a new one , finally i did get a reliable one.So if possible see If you can return it
Not sure how old the card is. Should be around a year I think.
The card has no damages from the outside. The pc can read it too, same for my phone. I can't write files on it or format it or delete partition.
When I remove the card and put it back into the reader, it has the same status as before I changed it.
I read too, that sandisk seems to have problems with their cards lately. Especially this 64gig model.
I guess too that it is really bad and no good anymore.
You should at least be able to return it since sandisk has a lifetime warranty (and seeing as there is not physical damage they will probably replace it with a bit of convincing)
As convenient as SD/micro's can be, they seem to have plenty of issues like this. Certain brands work wonders for some people and some are lemons. I've always had a good experience with Sandisk, but see if they'll replace it or check out Kingston or Transcend or another brand.
I'm gonna do that. Thanks for the help so far.
