Been using this 8gb microsd for a over 2 months and never had a problem was always flashing different roms until last week while i was running sense 2.04 the card just suddenly stopped working completely!
no phone can read it! tried it on a few nokia phones and my htc magic with no luck!
tried the card reader to see if it needs format but the reader can't read it and the reader does work i tried it with other cards...
Does anyone or have an idea what I can do to get it working again? I just want to get my photos on it even if i somehow have to format i can always use a recovery software to get the files back but it's not getting recognized... probably a hardware issue? anyone with any help would be appreciated !
Had the same problem, managed to copy stuff off onto pc but cannot re-format the card.
It says it is locked.
Not really the same thing... I can't even copy my files because it doesn't get detected at all! and now just tried a different card reader so again it doesn't seem to be the reader that the issue... could it be truly dead?
I've had that happen on my G1.
Grab an Ubuntu live disk, boot from it and then plug in your memory card reader with your microsd. It should read it and then you can copy your files over to your HDD. It shouldnt be too hard. If you have an ext partition it will also read that and you can copy the contents over to your hdd. Then using Gparted, you can repartition your sd card and then copy your stuff back over.
this happened to me about 6 weeks back - Desire and WinXP would not mount the card at all, manged to mount it through ubuntu but only got a couple of files (photos) back off the card. Back to the 4Gb as supplied sd just now
Hmm just tried ubuntu guys and didn't seem to get any luck... any other ideas? thx.

I got same problem with froyo, my card is dead. I tried with all methods but no luck.
Yea i thought i would just post that my desire has also killed my 8gb class 2 memory card, no computer will properly recognize it. Cannot format it or anything.
If i brought a 16gb class 6 do you think the phone will kill that as well, just dont wana waste $80.
When this happened to my 4GB card. I booted the phone into recovery mode. Selected 'MS-USB-Toggle' and the PC then picked it up. Was able to copy photos off the card and reformat it.
Give that a try?
If you still don't come right, I think it is safe to say the card is dead. May have just been a faulty card, rather than the phone killing it. (Don't see how that would even be possible, anyway)
put your micro sd in a sd-card adaptor and format via digital-camera.
camera can format killed cards.

Hmmm, not so sure about that. Normally a dead card is a dead card. End of.
However give it a try - will be surprised if it works.
To add another phone to the list: my old HTC Hero toasted my 16GB SDHC.
Yep when I got my first desire it cooked a 16Gb Sandisk card... worked fine for almost 18 months in my Touch HD... less than a week in the Desire... toast!
Me too.
My Desire seems to have fried my 16Gb Sandisk card, although I'm still trying to work out if it's a genuine card as it looks different to my other sandisk cards but the seller assures me it's real. Lost my holiday photos!!!
Just bought another 16Gb card, will see how that goes.
Going to email HTC and see what they say.

I second that, they do particularly well
You can also try a low level format tool
I have used this one before - oldie but goodie - http://hddguru.com/software/2006.04.12-HDD-Low-Level-Format-Tool/ but there are others
this has hapened to my lexar 16gb card.
Ihave a rooted desire; I went into the recovery menu, formatted the card to fat32 100%.
I then plugged it into my w7pc. did a low level format, dskchk-check and fix bad blocks.
then reformatted to ext: 512 and the rest fat32 in my device, been working ever since.

from y'day.. sometimes i get the below message when i switch the phone
"phone could not able to backup data to SD card"...
The phone seems to lose access rights to the SD Card, so nothing is displayed in the file manager (estrong or Astor) The only way to fix this is to restart the phone.
in the phone settings-> SD scard option, I still have the option to unmount the SD card.. but then I don't know who to mount it back.. the only way i am able to fix it is by restarting the phone...
from y'day till now I got this problem for 3 times..
Anybody else having problems with this? please help..
Hi, I have the same issuses. It is very annoying, especially when taking photos. I tried reformat card, but it worked only for a week. I have got euro version, firmware 1.15.405.4. I hope HTC will solve this issue together with multitouch issues in next firmware.
I bought a 16Gb card and cannot get it to work in the Desire.
I've tested it in the PC, formatted it etc but it still won't work.
I'm not convinced where the fault lies, with the card or the Desire.
I had a problem once with sd+camera app, but after a reboot everything worked
funny enuff. that happened to me 2 yesterday ?
Sent from my HTC Desire using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
One of my 16GB cards also got corrupted. I found it did not slide into the SDHC card slot properly and did become dislodged. Check to see if the SD card is inerted correctly. My replacement 8GB seems fine.

This doesn't work. I have the same problem as described above. I just ordered a new 8gb SD Card. I hope it's an SD card problem and not something wrong with the phone
Thread with same discussion here if you wanna check it out.
I've also been having SD card issues since I got the phone but yesterday things got worse!
After the problem occured again, I thought I'd try removing and reinserting the SD card (despite having done this before). When I restarted the phone it came up with a this message on the notification bar:
Blank SD Card
SD card blank or has unsupported filesystem.
I've tried reformatting the card in the phone, with the phone attached to my comp via USB, and with the card in a card reader. None of this works; the computer just doesn't recognise the card.
I've just emailed HTC support with the problem. I'll report back when I get an answer.
Also 16GB issue
Since a few days I have issues with my 16GB card also. I tried to install Navigon on the card by copying files directly to the card. After inserting it into the phone two out of three directories were empty....
Trying to copy fromt the pc to the Desire using it as a disk drive gave me the blue screen of death
I tried to install it using the original 4GB card and everything works like a charm
I tested the 16GB card (forgot what tool, it was a 1 month trial without write testing) and the card came out fats enough and without any bad blocks.
I will do a write test this evening (EU time) to see if I can fit 16GB ont the card, but everything points to the phone at this moment

I've had exactly the same problem which I posted about in another thread. Do let us know if HTC get back to you
Same problem with my Desire and a Sandik 16 Gb Class 2...
The card works fine on my mp3 player, but it is not recognized by the phone. I'm going to contact HTC, too.
My Desire has complained twice now that my 16GB SD card is damaged and needs to be reformatted. But when I put it in my Nokia N97, it works fine. The last time I did a disk check in XP, and that took care of the problem for a while at least, but it seems strange that the problem appeared in the first place.
Having invested in a 16gb class 2 Kingston card for my desire I can tell you that it brings nothing but grief. I then purchased a 8gb class 6 pqi branded card and found it to be flawless in performance. One thing I noticed with the class 6 card is the very fast speed in copying to and from the card. Much faster than the Kingston class 2. On the class 6 card I have never had corruption of data or any problem. I see comments posted that the class makes no difference. In my experience it makes a huge difference.
you guys are having issues with your 8GB/16GB cards, i was considering getting a 32GB a few days from now, after reading all this i'm having second thoughts.. does size matter ? (pardon the pun)
I don't think the size of the card should matter, but then again - it just might. I was wondering if there's a slight possibility my card got corrupted from when I've had it connected to my computer in disk mode. I only use the "safe disconnection of hardware" button in XP, but I don't select to unmount it on the Desire - it shouldn't be a problem, but perhaps that's how it got broken. Or perhaps it's just damaged and glitchy
Make sure the MBR is formatted too. Windows does not do this by default. Search for a tool on the internet.
Hi everybody,
I posted a similar post in one of the threads, but I did not get any replies. So I thought I might as well post a new thread.
I really hope that you can help me out.
My HTC Desire doesn't recognize the sd card (Samsung micro SDHC 4gb) that is in it. It also doesn't recognize another sd card (SanDisk micro SD 2gb).
I've tried to follow up the steps 'chippieuk' has listed in this thread.
Everything went fine, until I reached steps 8 and 12, because my pc doesn't recognize the sd card either. (I've tried to put it in two other computers and another phone, but it hasn't been recognized in any of them. I've also tried to use another sd card in the sd card readers and adapter, and that sd card was recognized, but it was a SanDisk micro SD 2gb.)
Here's some background information.
Something like 7 months ago I rooted my HTC Desire (in the process of rooting I partitioned the sd card) and I put custom ROM 'opendesire v1.5' on it. I was satisfied with it, so I never changed it since then. But my HTC Desire stopped working properly something like 6 weeks ago. Every time I switched it on, it went into bootloop. So two weeks ago I did a hard reset via 'hboot' and my phone seemed to work again, but then I discovered that the sd card wasn't being recognized and that has been the problem ever since.
I've, btw., (temporarily) unrooted my phone with a RUU (android 2.1). I've not yet upgraded it to android 2.2, because I want my phone to function well first and I will probably root it again soon (if I will succeed with my sd card etc.)...
So... Have any of you got an idea? Could it be something with the readers that I've used (that they can't read micro sdhc cards)? Or because I once partitioned it? I really don't know...
Once again, I would really appreciate it if you could help me.
Thanks.
Regards
If nothing is picking it up then you have no partition on the SD card, or the wrong one. Format it with Windows to FAT32. If Windows picks it up, then Android should pick it up. If it isn't picking it in Android after the format, go to Settings > Storage and see if it's mounted in there, if not, then mount it, if you can't mount it, then it's either a problem with the rom or a problem with the SD card.
Okay, thanks. I'll try that.
Is it, btw., possible to get the data that's on it back?
Not if you format it. To be honest, the only way you can get data off it anyway is by getting it to mount, which it isn't doing.
Yeah, true... I should have made a backup. ;p
Okay, I just connected my phone with its sd card to my computer.
It actually shows a 'Removable Disk' in 'Computer',
but I cannot access it when I try to format it.
So I'm going to try to format it now, using an adapter.
Let me know how it goes
Hmmm.. When I put the micro sd card in an adapter and insert that into my computer, it sort of reacts to it. The icons at the bottom right sort of move, but that's all. When I look into 'Computer', there are no removable disks. I really don't know how to access it..
Plug it into your PC. Go to start, right click on my computer and click on manage. Click on disk management on the left and see if the SD card loads up
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Okay, so I tried what you said, but the SD card doesn't load up.. I also tried it with that other SD card I talked about, just to check again if it really isn't because of the adapter, but that SD card was recognized.
Put it in your phone and loads up Android. By default, if Android detects a non compatible SD card then it will ask you to format it. If you don't get this option then I guess it's buggered and you'll need to get a new one.
It appears to be a USB brick....
See solution on this thread.

Hello,
friend got her hands on a htc desire. She let some small shop unlock it before really testing it. Now we got the following problem:
The SD Card doesnt work. At first everything seemed to work okay. She took 52 pictures, even installed on app on the sd card. Then it basically froze.
We can delete half of the pictures and make some new ones. After the phone is rebooted all pictures are gone. Apps cannot be installed on the sd card.
If I remove the sd card and put it in my Nexus One everything works fine. New pictures survive the reboot, old ones get deleted.
When she puts the sd card in her desire, everything is back to 52 pictures and 1 app on it.
You cannot copy stuff like update.zip on the sd card, because the phone will only notice 52 pictures on it... Rom Manager has a "fix" option which doesnt work and partition it didnt help it - if it did anything at all.
We even bought a new 8 gb one, same problem. Some other people reported the same problem in forums, but there is never an answers what did fix it.
Its S-OFF with AlphaRev.
Sadly we both have no idea how to fix it and no android development skills. My plan would be to go back to RUU to see if the problem is still there. If yes, just get a new one from HTC. If no, unlock it again.
Sadly when it comes to roms and the "simple guides" we fail to reproduce even the first steps. "Go to fastboot and enter command XYZ" - yet we cannot enter any commands there.
Any help is welcome.
Can you connect your phone to pc in adb mode? Or simpler: what happened when you are connecting your phone to pc? Does it ask about mass storage mount? Is it in debug mode? If not, I think that it is classical USB-Brick, else... I don't know what is wrong...
I had also a problem with my sd-card.
Put it in a card reader and make checkdisk with windows solved my problem.
Weird, my answer disappeared.
When we connect it to a pc, we can delete files, format it, run scandisk, copy stuff on it. Everything works fine. When we put it back into the phone, the old 52 pictures and nothing else is on it.
And I thought I was the only one…
My problem is as follows, I had with my 1st Desire a 8gig Class 4 Transcend SD card which was perfect and connecting to and from my home and work pc was effortless.
Then my Motherboard burnt out on that phone sent it back and when I got the new one I put my 4gig Class 2 SD which I got with the phone back in and no issues.
A few days later I bought a new 8gig Kingston Class 4 SD ( I lost my Transcend SD card) and after 2 days I would get “SD mounted as read only” so formatted the SD copied my data back to my 8gig Kingston card which worked fine on my PC but the same problem persisted when I put it back in my phone. I was using ADW launcher and kept getting the same errors all the time, then I switched to Launcher Pro and since then I have had no SD card problems.
Also when I was using standard HTC sense I also never had a problem, I hope this is of some help.
I rooted my htc desire using Unrevok 3 and also tried to partition sd by mini tool home version . unfortunately after partition i cannot access or recognize sd in my desire.
Still not making any progress, ..
Is anybody else experiencing repeated failure of micro SD cards? EVO has been rooted and working great since last year. Suddenly, in February, my 32GB sd card failed on a reboot from flashing an early CM7 ROM. The Message is "SD Card blank or has unsupported filesystem." I called Sandisk and they sent out a replacement. Two weeks ago, same failure. Called Sandisk again and they are reluctantly sending another card (supposed to arrive today). In the meantime I was running with my 8GB that came with the phone. I just installed the stable CM7 release, restored data via clockwork and BOOM! SD card failure again. So, is anyone else getting this? Three SD cards in 2 months is kind of extreme. I'm trying to determine if it's the hardware, the ROM, or a series of bad cards (unlikely).
Some additional details:
All cards are Sanddisk
Recovery is ClockworkMod 3.0.0.5
HBOOT is 0.93.0000
Card is not readable via a card reader
its a bug with CM7
Thanks. I searched the forums, but was unable to find anything. Do you have a link to a discussion about it? Thanks.
sorry i dont have a link, it was some thing i read. a simple reboot was the suggestion and it worked for me also. good luck to you

I have had a similar problem with my 32 gb card.
Patriot card, Amon Ra 2.3, hboot 0.76, card worked in my laptop, and now is recognized in my phone, but Titanium backup will not recognize any app data elements
Delete the LOST.DIR on the sdcard while in recovery. Tends to fix it.
I posted this in one of the accessory threads, but it probably belongs in here.
------------------
I got a lexar 32gb class 10 microsd about a bit over a month ago. The first one worked great for about 3-4 weeks, then I started getting data corruption. Reformatted, copied data back, lasted 3 days. Now mind you, I always shut the phone down properly.
Rma'd it, got the replacement. Lasted all of 2 days before file corruption began again.
Lexar insisted I send my old one back before the send a replacement out. Fine. This ordeal took nearly 10 calendar days. During this time I had the stock sandisk 8gb class4 card. The data copied to the lexar is identical to that which was on the sandisk. Only difference is, I had no corruption what so ever with the sandisk.
Thus far, the conclusion i've drawn is that these bigger cards (or faster?) don't seem to work well as a virtual hard drive. They may be fine for storing pics or mp3s. However, the evo uses the sd card more so as random access read/write type storage, with the card constantly being updated by receipt of email, and other system programs/processes. Maybe this is what does the card in.
finally someone with the same problem as me...i thought i was the only one my 32gb card does the same was there a fix for it??
My 16GB Transcend card just died a couple of days ago. Sending it in today for replacement. I can access most folders from a USB card reader, but the larger folders can't be accessed.

This is actually very interesting. Earlier this morning I was thinking about App2SD and started looking into using it, and saw comments that peoples cards were getting nuked after using it (albeit only a few people). This kind of jives with the above quote... but take that sentiment with a grain of salt, admittedly I'm still an Android noob.
To those who are experiencing corrupted card issues, are you using App2SD?
Wrathx, I am set up with an ext3 partition using the dark tremor's a2sd scripts. I only have the apks on there however. The rest of the /data content (config files, databases, etc) is still on the phone's internal memory - for the same reasons above. I figured the internal memory is better (faster?) equipped to handle ever changing content. So in essence, once the apk is on the ext3 partition, it's accessed as a read only process.
My 8gb stock sandisk card is partitioned identically to the way the 32GB was, 32mb swap, 512 mb ext, and the remainder as /sdcard. It's also being used in the same way (only apps moved to it, no other content). Again, no issues what so ever with it.
Now, the the cache and dalvik cache are both set up to use the phone's internal /cache partition (for reasons above). I mention this because dt a2sd script gives you a number of options on how to set this up. Some people may have their cache and/or DC on the ext partition in addition to possibly having the actual /data content including settings on there as well.
so is there a fix r is everyone running into the problem getting a replacement???
When my SD card failed I took it out and put it in my husbands phone ( LG optimus) and let it power all the way on then took it out and put it back in my evo and it worked perfectly after that. It's a 32 gb sands....hope this helps

Just blew up card number 4. This one was a brand new SanDisk 32 GB. It failed when I powered up the phone. Just as a precaution I did not do anything out of the ordinary other than put some music on the phone. Did not transfer apps to SD. I'm going to restore to stock today and exchange the phone as a precaution. Since there is no clear evidence of the cause (even though it only started happening since switching to CM6/CM7) I may just go with straight stock root for now. I'll update if that causes any failures. I seems to only take a couple of weeks to get a failure so stay tuned.

has this worked for anyone? Once i reboot i just get 'blank sdcard.' this is the 3rd card that got hosed for me. all 16gigs. really wondering if its the hc cards, cm7, or just my phone.
My repeated failures turned out to be a bad slot on the phone. I would unroot the phone, restore stock, and exchange it. Since getting a replacement I have had no issues.
Hi everyone,
I am having an issue with my SD card and hope someone can help.
I have bought an SD card for my HTC Desire HD. This is a Lexar (High-Speed) 32GB Micro SD-HC card. I have had this for around 3 months.
All has worked well until recently. I have been unable to sync and access anything on the card. For example, I use root explorer on the mobile to view all of the files within the SD card. This has worked previously, but recently hasn't. When I try to view the SD card files the app crashes.
Also, when I try to sync any files to the mobile using HTC sync, the sync seems to progress and complete according to my PC, but nothing seems to be available on the SD card. I tried to sync music files to the card, HTC sync carried the sync out to my phone, but nothing is showing when I use this with any music apps.
I am now constantly receiving messages on my mobile asking me to download my language pack again for my SMS application. I may also receive a message saying the SD card is read only, press here to fix. I have tried to press this and the SD card seems to be re-set but doesn't actually fix anything.
I have also tried to format the SD card through the phone. Have taken the SD card out of the phone and re-inserted this. Still no luck.
Does anyone have any idea as to what else I can possibly do or is this SD card basically become faulty and I'm going to have to replace this?
Any help and suggestions are much appreciated.
I think your SD card just became problematic, and maybe soon it will become unusable too. Maybe you should try replacing it if it still in warranty time. (life-time wrranty?).
sd card
Maybe your card is broken. You'd better buy a new one.
Have your tried to read your SD with your computer?
Lexar
I don't want to extrapolate from my Lexar SD Card to every other SD Card of the same brand, but my Lexar 16 GB class 6 card had a lifetime of roughly 3 months, too and then started to make problems. Coincidence..??
I had a case of total data loss including bad sectors etc...
Even reformatting at the PC and doing a chkdsk helped only for another few weeks, then the first bad sectors re-appeared.
I changed now to a SanDisk which was much cheaper and is faster anyway, despite the fact that it has no class XX defintion printed on. ;-)
But regular backup is your friend, anyway, nandroid and titanium saved my day, at least to 90% of the data.
cheers
Fritz

Yeah, I can read the card on my PC. I try to add files manually on to the card (without HTC sync) this adds but when I try to view with the mobile and doesn't seem to show the file. I then try to read the card again and the file I have added has gone.
Thanks for the help guys. I think I'll buy a new card and go for sandisk. I'll try and find one with a good warranty or lifetime warranty. Anyone got examples of cards or suppliers who provide a lifetime warranty?
