[Q] Unable to install CM11 or latest TWRP - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an Amazon Kindle Fire running FFF 1.4a, TWRP 2.6.0.0 and CM10.
Trying to install the latest CM11 ROM, but when I flash it, the Kindle goes into and endless reboot cycle (It says "Booting" at the bottom, then reboots, and repeats).
So then I tried installing the latest TWRP using the Kindle Fire Utility (also tried with adb) and it appears my Kindle cannot reboot into fastboot mode to allow the upgrade to take place. When the Kindle receives the "reboot into fastboot" command, it reboots, but I just get the TWRP menu with "Normal" and "Recovery" choices.
Luckily I can flash my old ROM and it works fine. ButI would love to upgrade to CM11 if possible.
Is the latest TWRP (2.6.3.1 at the time of this writing) required to install CM11? The post for CM11 states the "latest TWRP" is required.
Thanks!

Yes the latest TWRP is required

Is the latest TWRP requirement also necessary is you're trying to install either of the newer HellFire 4.4.xx roms? I'm on 2.2.2.1, (TWRP), and can't seem to get it to work, just pops up an error every time. I had thought about upgrading TWRP, but had read that there were a lot of problems with it. So if I upgrade to the latest TWRP, should this sole my HellFire problem?

So, for some reason, I cannot get TWRP to update. I tried both GooManager and ROM Installer apps. They both try to install TWRP but are unable to get the device to reboot into fast mode. In fact GooManager claims that TWRP was installed successfully, but then the reboot fails. When I go back into TWRP, it is still the old version.
Any ideas how to solve this?
Thanks!

You need to flash the version that hashcode updated specifically for the Fire. Link below, flash like any other zip.
TWRP 2.6.3.1 by Hashcode
It will still say 2.6.3.0 but it is updated and will work with cm11 ROMs

That did the trick. Thanks!

[Q] FFF won't load TWRP

If anyone can point me to a post that might help me that would be great. I have used kfu to root and install twrp and FFF on multiple KF's. For some reason I can't get to TWRP through FFF on one of them. When it's booting and the light goes dim in FFF I press power- it goes orange, then the KF just reboots. When it reboots it is not stuck at FFF it just reboots normal.
I know TRWP is installed because I can get to it through the KFU by "install latest TWRP recovery". That starts TWRP on my KF but that is the only way I can get to TWRP- with it hooked to my PC using KFU.
MY KF is rooted/ stock 6.3
Have you tried installing TWRP manually?

same problem with me!that's what i always do when flashing to a new rom.i've read quite a lot from here and they say its due to twrp not installing not properly.
please don't try to flash to other rom first cause it is dangerous. If your kfu cant detect your kf,then you will have a tough time to flash back your original rom.
i myself is in trouble now.
To both of you: I'm willing to bet that you guys have the stock recovery installed in the recovery partition and not TWRP. When you select recovery in the FFF bootloader, it's booting into the stock recovery which is designed to run a set of commands and then reboot automatically into the system. In addition, I'd also bet that you have TWRP 2.1.0 in your KFU folder. The developer of KFU at one point jumped the gun on the new version of TWRP which needs to be installed in a different manner than version 2.0.0. If you guys would take the time to learn to use fastboot manually and not depend on KFU to do this, you could install the latest version of TWRP (version 2.1.1) and not have these problems.
To jhaz: If you delete your KFU folder and download KFU again, I'm confident that you can do the same as you did on your other Kindle Fire devices to get the old version of TWRP installed.
To chaukeng: You are in a different boat because you won't get adb working on gedeROM without reinstalling your device drivers manually. gedeROM requires different device driver settings and the explanation for the reason why is way beyond the scope of this post. You can redownload KFU like I suggested to jhaz, try to follow the 2nd post in the Beginners Guide to install the drivers manually and then hope that KFU can install TWRP for you so you can reflash a new ROM... OR you can learn to use fastboot, get the FFF bootloader to stay in fastboot mode by stopping the temporary fastboot countdown, and flash TWRP manually so you can reflash a new ROM. What I just said probably makes very little sense to you, but all the information you need to understand this is in the Beginners Guide. If you study it carefully, you'll get all the information you need to fix your device. KFU is going to be of little use to you right now. You'll need to get your hands dirty a bit.
Kinfauns- That did the trick thanks so much for your help.

[Q] Kindle Fire without OS stuck at boot logo

Hi all, I really tried searching everywhere in the forum to solve my issue and I couldn't find anything specific, so I'll try and explain what's happened to me:
This is the first time I tried to install custom roms in my kindle, so I instaled TWRP and FFF and went to install the Rom I downloaded. I had an error message and just couldn't install it... So I wen't to restore my stock backup and just couldn't either. I then tried to install the stock firmware and what happened is that it didn't install the stock firmware properly!
So I'm stuck at the boot logo image, with no OS and no TWRP, FFF, Root or anything... I connect the kindle to my pc (windows) and open kindle fire utility (0.9.9) and I get ADB Status: Online but Boot Status: Unknown... When I try to reinstall TWRP, KFU tries to reboot it in fast boot mode but gets stuck at waiting for device...
How the hell can I get access to my kindle so I can install TWRP again???

I'm guessing you didn't factory reset in recovery before restoring the stock firmware? You need a factory cable.
same issue but I have twrp and fff on mine
When i got the kindle it had nipad ( everything was in chineese) and stock rom (english) installed. the stock rom kept having errors. I installed twrp and fff on the kindle. during the stock install I must have wiped the os some how. when I try to flash the rom it errors, see attached picture. now it won't go past the kindle fire logo unless i put it in recovery. Thank you for any help.

Help: Kindle stuck on blue Fire after upgrading TWRP and boot loader

Hi,
I had freedom book 8.4.3, twrp 2.6.3.1 and PAC-man 4.3.Build-1_20131030-162108.
I just tried to upgrade to PAC-man 4.4 nightly-20140927.
The first step is to upgrade to freedom book 8.4.6 and TWRP 2.7.0.0. I used fireflash, put both them in, and choose install scripts (first option). Then reboot.
Now it's stuck withe the blue Kindle Fire logo.
I can get into TWRP recovery. But not sure what I should do next. Can I check if freedom boot is installed correctly? Should I continue to flash the new PAC-man?
Thanks

how to return back to stock rom and get rid of the 2nd bootloader

Hi I installed CM10 for my kindle fire HD 8.9 some time ago by using TWRP 2.6.0.0. Do not think I kept the stock recovery at that time.
A few days I decided to update CM10 and chose one update CM11 rom shown in the setting
It is at that time I got into trouble of bootloop. The tablet continue to boot into TWRP 2.6.0.0
Then I managed to download CM11 or CM12 onto my PC and adb push them to the tablet and tried to install them in TWRP 2.6.0.0, but both failed
then i downloaded an amazon stock rom version 8.4.6 and adb push it to the tablet and this time it installed.
But apparently the stock rom is installed on the 2nd bootloader --- i saw the orange "kindle fire" sign first, then the blue one, and then the orange one again before amazon stock rom come up.
Now my question is that is there any way for me to get back to the original stock rom and get rid of the 2nd bootloader totally?
Just want to have a total fresh start and install CM11 or CM12 on this tablet.
thanks a lot.
hi this issue has been resolved. the solution is to update twrp from 2.6.0.0 to 2.8.70 and then the CM11 or CM12 will be installed.

Kindle Fire HD 8.9 (Jem) stuck at TWRP startup screen

I've been using the Fire HD 8.9 (Jem) with CM (a 2015 version of CM 12.1) with TWRP 2.7.0 without much of a problem. Yesterday, I flashed the latest CM12.1 nightly (20161216 version) using the same TWRP successfully. After the initial loading, I tried to factory reset the tablet. Once the pad restarted, it goes into the TWRP startup screen, and doesn't load the touch interface. The startup screen will flash every 5 seconds or so. I can't go back to normal boot either. Can anyone help? Thanks.
Have you fixed this yet?
If not, I'm not certain, but could be a mismatch between your older TWRP version and the most recent CM12.1 nightly. Can you actually use TWRP? Did you make a backup prior to installing the newest CM version (always imperative to do)? If so and TWRP works, simply wipe everything and reinstall your backup. Then first update TWRP (I'm using v 3.0.0) by multiple methods and try again. Does you computer still see your Kindle? If so, download a newer version of TWRP to your computer, transfer it to the Downloads folder of your "SD Card" on internal storage, and flash from there using TWRP. Try to keep plugged in so that battery stays in good shape.
If you can't use TWRP, you'll have use Fastboot to flash a newer TWRP version from your computer. Look for instructions on how to setup and then use Fastboot if you've never used this before. Some drivers that your computer may or may not have will be required. Good luck!
