(Q) system memory on darthstalker - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I'm new to S4, came from Hercules. Running darthststalker, love the rom. I'm running low on storage space. No music or pics right now. Have about 900 mb left. Any ideas?

Do you have any nandroid backup? Those take up a good chunk of spaces. Thread title say system space our did you mean internal sd space?

The total available user memory of all variants of the Galaxy S4 is 9GB .
The rest of the 16GB's are used by the phone's firmware/rom.
And NO the number or size of nandroid backups will not give
you more or less TOTAL available/usable memory.
The more of that 9GB of memory you use up with nandroid
backups or anything else the less you will have leftover.
It makes NO difference how big or many megabytes your rom is.
The additional 6GB's are pre-allocated for the phone to be used
by the firmware/rom and cannot be changed or altered.
Check it out, here are the full specs:
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/Samsung-Galaxy-S4_id7597
scroll down until you see "memory"and read the specs. carefully.
Good luck!

Thank you. That makes sense. Gonna have to get a big sd card then!

Free space warning. Does not add up

Hello all. I have recently started receiving low storage warnings even though bit appears I have plenty of space with both internal and external memory.
Can anyone advise?
Thanks

I don't know what is going on, but that image shows you only have 401 MB available.
Something is chewing up your storage space or at least making your phone think it is almost gone.
Do you have a bunch of nandroid backup's saved to your internal drive or something?

Yeah, I'm thinking you have either a lot of zips or you have nandroids on there that are taking up space. Check out
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage
It will give you a visual display of the folders that are using the most space and what files are the culprits.

Thank you both your recommendations I used the supplied app and solid explorer and I was able to find several gigs of picasa 3d gallery cache files and similar situations with ROM Manager "blobs" seems to be resolved now.
Wonder why it occurred in the first place..odd
Thanks

I agree that it likely has something to do with those backups. I downloaded the app but can't seem to figure out where space is being taken up. I transfer all my backups to my external sd, but don't know what the hell is taking my space up.

Those 'blobs' are where CWM stores its backup files from what i've read, personally i use TWRP so i can't confirm this.

+1 twrp. Im a former cwm touch user absolutely hated the .92gb backups from cwm. Now I can have multiple backups on hand without sacrificing storage space.
AT&T SGS3
AOKP Task & Ktoonsez ROM
KT747 Kernel OC'ed & UV'ed
Medical MJ Supporter
I had the same problem, I re flashed cm10 4 times and still only had about 500mb of available space on my internal
turns out when you select "wipe/factory reset" on CWM Recovery it doesn't actually delete everything..
DiskUsage was the perfect tool for the job, there was 6 gigs of leftover gameloft stuff on the phone, removed the files and now im a happy camper with plenty of free space!

missing memory

hey guys i dont know why but my available memory space does not add up correctly i should have almost 9gb of storage available yet it says i have so little as you can see in pic...im running rooted stock deodexed rom...any ideas on why the memory doesnt add up and why im not getting actual space needed

this has been answered several times.
ok thank you sorry could not find anything...make sense seeing how i have 3 backups...completely pointless will delete 2 nandroid backups

Link2SD problem

What does the following error in link2SD mean?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I have enough space on my partition so I don't understand the problem
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
not sure but i am having problems also with 64gb sd so i would probably think it's the same with too big partition, it's advised to be less than 1GB
hopefully it sorts out the problem after testing
Sorry this maybe off topic but undisputed guy what rom you using? And how did you remove am/pm from status bar
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I'm using Gin2JB. I think AM/PM goes once you change it to 24 hour time format

The strange thing is that I had it working fine but then I wiped my partition (not before moving the apps2SD) because it was full and now it doesn't work

How I that that rom for gaming against nxt le because I use nxt le with a visualization mod wich makes it look alot better is gin2jb just gb themed to look nicer?
And haha how stupid of me not to realise that lol thanks mate
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Gin2JB is just gingerbread themed to look like Jellybean. It works well and gaming is smooth although I do experience bad lag on some games such as the amazing Spider-Man. Not sure how it compares to NXT as I've not used it.
Regarding link2SD, I got everything linked eventually by persisting but then saw that my 1.5GB partition was somehow full which I didn't understand. I don't get how apps could take up over 1.5GB so I decided to move everything back onto the SD card and try linking them again. Don't really know what I was thinking. This led to the phone displaying and having less than 1mb internal storage which meant I could barely do anything. I moved 2apps to the SD card from settings to free up some memory but I don't know why it did that as I already moved them to SD using link2SD.
Anyways, my problem currently is why my whole 1.5GB is being filled up? Why is it taking that much storage?
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
Less than 1GB partion? Oh Dear.. My partion's 2.5GB and its fine. Im running a 32gb SD though and my phone decided to move all of my apps back to internal storage.. Sigh. And I dont think its booting up anymore. >.<

I had a 2GB partition on my 32GB SD but this 64GB card is causing problems without a partition.
Is it normal for a 1.5GB partition to be filled up using only link2sd?
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T using xda app-developers app
Well, My partitions 2.5GB with only 0.9GB space left. So I think ive used 1.6GB alone. >.< I only have 404 apps altogether according to Link2SD (Including System Crap)
Thanks for the reply. Looks like i need to make my partition bigger then.
On a slightly related note, why isn't TB restoring my missing apps with data? It either fails or says the batch restore is finished yet i have nothing. I just need tetris and bruce lee as they can't be had from the play store

Available Space on New Note 2

Hi,
My New N7100 shows the Total Space as 10.36GB and Available space is 9.92GB !! From what i've read before I should have around 10.36GB as available space, is my phone normal???
Go to storage and see what is using space.
Sent From Samsung's Galaxy Note II Using Internet
I guess you didn't get my question correctly....I did that already...i'm talking about the actual phone space out of the box
Im having 10.36 as Total and 10.36 as available.
That should be the correct specs on your phone.
Look again if there are some folders or stuff eating up the ~1 gb. Dropbox or something.

Hmmmm.....i'll do that and report back, thanks.
Did you login with your Google play/Gmail account during the initial startup wizard? If you had previously installed apps from Google store it might automatically start installing them and that could be the reason you didn't get the total storage.

Or games data. My Note II came with some demo games. You can click on the miscaleanous line and see wich thing consume the space.
Demos would be marked as apps...

yes just tap the misc files line to see the files. my note 2 had 9.92 as the out of box storage. there will be little variance in the storage depending on the region it has been released in.

Wth does ram have to do with nand memory?
To OP. That is correct amount but not cause of RAM. The 16gb memory is partitioned for system, cache data etc.
And the one left is your sdcard.
You can always an external sdcard for music, photos and movies.
But game data and some other data like from gps apps must install in internal.

I just read something about nand memory being used as ram extension. I have no idea if that is the case here or not. http://wikibon.org/wiki/v/The_adoption_of_NAND_Flash_as_a_Seamless_Extension_of_RAM_Memory

If I understand that correctly it means that after ram is filled it will use nand space as virtual ram. I think that would decrease read speeds as nand is significantly slower than ram.

Yes. Ram is autonomous memory. Nothing to do with the internal 16gb nand flash memory.
