Hey, this is probably slightly trivial for the likes of many on this forum but quite obviously for me, it isn't. So, I downloaded a game through none conventional methods, basically through Google search, downloaded the apk and game data and placed the obb file in it's appropriate place. I've recently finished the game while updates have been released. Because I haven't downloaded officially I am unable to acces these updates.
Is there anyway I can download these updates without corrupting my previous data? And if so, how do I go about doing this? The ideal solution would be a manual update that wouldnt restart my previous data. If this can't be done please do tell.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
if you just install the updated apk over nothing is happen...it just get updated but won't corrupt anything...but if you have to uninstall and install the new apk and the new game data then just backup your game data, the savegame files etc, with titanium backup...then you can uninstall and install the new apk and just restore the data and you have your progress back...
and also to you WRONG place to ask...next time please in Q&A as this is for themes and not questions
Simple
You may need to rename the obb folder (Such as adding a '1' at the end of the name) and reinstall the previous apk then, install the updated apk and rename it back to its original name. After that, open the app and tada, problem solved.

Hi,
Since the release of the latest application (v1.6) a lot of users have been upset about the horrible downgrade in software.
It seems that Softbank has still not hired any native English speakers.....
Anyway I'm not here to rant I'll just post the files for v1.5 since a lot of people were asking where they could find a copy for themselves.
I pulled both of these files out of a backup I stored onto my SD card using MyBackupPro. Not sure what the zip file is for, but the APK is there. Maybe somebody could clear that up for me as well.
Zip file
APK
As far as I know there is two ways to get this installed (there may be many other ways).
1. adb push the apk or
2. download MyBackup and do a quick backup of some apps you have installed already. download both of these files and paste them into the directory where MyBackup stores the backups for apps. run MyBackup and choose to restore the Softbank Mail app.
cheers.

Hi, after reading your post I discovered my version of SoftBank Mail is 1.0 but I've never received an update notification - probably because I'm not in Japan.
EDIT: Apparently it's because the version you've uploaded is designed for non-Japanese models and it's incompatible with mine.
I tried simply downloading the app and running a standard installation - it did install, but when I tried to launch it, I got a notification that it cannot be used on my device (Galapagos 005SH).
EDIT: The MyBackup method does not work because simply adding the files in the directory where the backed up APKs are doesn't automatically lead to the new APK(s) showing up in the list of available apps to restore - it's because the information is also written to a dedicated file (MBP extension I think it was). Perhaps that can be edited but...
This morning I woke up, and Zimperium's "Anti" app was on my phone. I did not download it. I did not even know what it was until it was there.
I'm running MIUI ROM v. 1.11.18 on my Dinc. I just updated from 1.11.11 last night, however this application is not in their changelog.
I've never experienced this before, and the application is not listed as a downloaded application in the marketplace when I choose "My apps".
I have not downloaded any other applications within the past week.
Considering the nature of this application (Network toolkit) I am concerned it has unauthorized permissions.
Any recommendations?

if you have root explorer you can navigate to data/apps and manually delete it. i have no clue as to why it was installed on your phone without your permissions. that is a new one to me. talk to the MIUI supporter for our device and ask them.

also if you still have the zip on your phone i would look through it and see if, for some reason, it was put in it by accident. if it came form the update then it would be in system > app
Our MIUI maintainer, leeech decided to put it in the latest update for the Inc only which is why it isn't in the changelog. If you don't want it, remove it with either Root Explorer or Titanium Backup.
I'm having a difficult time finding where this .apk is located. What's more interesting, is that the application is the FULL "Anti", not the "AntiLite" on the android market.
Also, I downloaded the MIUI from ROM manager, did a backup, dalvik cache wipe, and updated. I'll be able to upload that .zip here around 5 PM EST today.
The details of this app are as follows:
version: 2.3.1
size: 788KB
permissions: storage (modify/delete), net. comm.(full, and market billing service), phone calls (read phone state and identity), system tools (change wi-fi state, prevent phone from sleeping), and discover known accounts.
I'm not sure if that's helpful at all, but i figure the more details i give, the better possibility of an explanation.

You won't be able to remove it from the Application pane in settings since it's in the system folder.
Like I said above, if you have Root Explorer or Titanium Backup, you can remove it. In root explorer, go to the /system/app folder and delete the filecalled "Anti-2.3.1-Miui.apk"
If you have Titanium Backup, just search for "Anti," click on it when it loads up in the list and click uninstall. It will ask if you are sure you want to remove a system app, just say yes, and voila, it's gone.

yeah what you said. or you can put the zip on your pc. use zip and remove the apk then flash the rom over. my way is harder but yea.
I just saw this app in my ROM as well. Haven't been on MIUI in a while but looks like a pretty interesting app if you do some research on it and are into hacking at all.
I'm thinking of giving it a go.

Strange. I just found it on my phone too. It appeared after I installed Meraki WiFi Stumbler. The program is written in my data folder as Anti-2.3.1-MIUI. Unable to install in Android itself, but Titanium Backup took care of it.
As mentioned above. Leeechmiui who maintains the port added it in a few weeks back. I believe he has been working with the app developer and they let him include it with 2 free credits.
First off I'd like to start off by saying that I am kind of an idiot...with that said; I like to mess around with important files on my device(Acer a100) even though I have absolutely no clue what I'm doing.
Using titanium backup I uninstalled that download system apk. The one with the green icon and the white arrow pointing down. Now when I try to restore it through tit. Backup it will just freeze and keep saying that it is restoring and I have to finally force close titanium. I have also tried messing around with permissions in root explorer, fixing permissions in rom manager, navigating to system/app and installing it manually through a file explorer( get message install fail), and hard resetting.
The main problem is that everything I download will show in my notification bar and after I close/exit them they come back 5-30 min later. If I click on the download in my notification(not on the x) then my notification bar just closes. I can kinda fix this by turning my notifications off or cleaning data/cache on ?download storage? Apk/app.
Does anyone know of an easy fix for restoring this system apk. For there are no custom roms or recovery sources for this device that I have seen yet.
Thank-you, Robb
Get the system.apk file from the roms here

i tried downloading those recovery files and twice they came back saying they were corrupted, is there any way someone can just upload the system file i need from their a100...its the downloads apk. the green icon with a white arrow pointing down

PM me with your email address, I'll email you the apk from my A100, I'm still running the stock rom that I pulled it out of the box with.
You can download it straight to your tab from your email, beforee you do, get a file manager (like es file manager) from the market. You will be able to get to your downloads folder from there and install it.
ummmmm............ could you repeat that?

He's got Root Explorer, that should do the trick.
To the OP: You are mounting the system partition R/W in Root Explorer when you try this, aren't you? Hate to ask a dumb question but.....
Yes I am hitting that button up top on root explorer changing it from r/w to r/o but I think some how I just got the wrong apk....after titanium wouldn't restore it I think I remember copying apk. From my phone (g2x) and attempting to restore those...dumb, I know I might of tried changing the names of the apk. Too,..like I say I f*** with s*** I have no business Fu****** with. I will p.m. my email now maybe I can get a screen shot of the system files if anyone feels up to it, so I can cross check proper name and sizes
How about just reinstalling the 3.2.1 update that is in the developer section. There should be no reason to factory reset since it is the same version. I have soft bricked mine a few times and I have just did the update again.
I even upgraded from whatever version the device shipped with to 3.2.1 without wiping the data.
A100 development section??? I see three a100 recovery downloads and one a101 recovery in our development section but when I download them i t says they were corrupted...if those are what your talking about...which one exactly should I use and what do I do with the file after words???
----sorry two that say a101 and two a100
So should I use file Id # 115,116,117,or 109
Use the one in this post. It is already decrypted. The ones in the frist post need to be decrypted using the Acer decryption tool. I have used the one I linked to probably 20 times. Once you run the update you will have to re-root the tablet.
thank-you all..recovered and fixed!!!
I was able to fix my problem by using the recovery update zips. But I want to thank everyone that helped, and remind people from experience to freeze unwanted system apps instead of uninstlling in titanium backup.u
Very important advice also is to search and read before starting new posts. I could have saved some time and headache just by doing that...the answers were just a couple paragraphs away the whole time.
Hey warriors!
Pls help - after installing apk and storing obb files into sd card/android/obb folder I cannot run any HD game with my G3. The application will not find the files.
My procedure:
- download apk + cache
- install apk
- place obb files into obb folder (usually the files are already in a correctly named folder, e.g. "com.pixelbite.rr3" (for recklessracing3), so I just extract and copy them from my PC over to SD card)
- run apk - it will then give me an error message, or just look for the files for eternity, or simply just crashes
I have tried couple of games - NOVA3, MC5, RecklessRacing with no luck
- is it because I am not rooted?
- is it necessary to change something in phone settings prior to installing?
- or simply what I am doing wrong?
Many thanks for your help!

Most of the time, that stuff is stored in the /data partition which you cannot access to write to without root. The only "people" that can access and write to that area are the app itself that wrote to it initially, and an account with root access.
Some games might store some "cache" to the internal sd card, but that all depends on the app.
This is why using the cloud is so much better for game advancement, but not all games are using that.

I think I got your point but what would be the safest way to install games without issues? Will rooting the device solve the problem, or is there still some work to do most of the time with every game?
And if root is OK, is there any one-click root available for G3 which is safe? I am very good at bricking the phones

The only other way to make this work, and you would have had to backed everything up before, is to use Helium which (without root) requires you to have a Windows or Mac client app installed on your PC and you hook up you device that way. It can then backup the data and restore it, without root. However, it only works with certain apps. Not all apps can be backed up with Helium.
As for rooting, it depends on which model of G3 you have. Overall, rooting is easy, but it depends on which version of the Android OS it's running and again, which model of G3 you are using. I don't want to go into it with this thread as it can all be discovered by going to the following FAQ thread in the OP and finding the section for rooting. There it explains which root method works on which model of phone and what version of the OS you must be on. Again, this all depends on the model of the phone you have. Here is the link to the FAQ post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/help/help-thread-lg-g3-question-t2947298
After that, you can use a lot of different apps to backup and restore your app and data. TiBu is the most popular one.

What? You have me confused.
What are you expecting to happen when you download an app from Google Play? Not sure what you are asking...
Hello everyone,
Sorry about the complicated title, let me explain my issue with my phone.
While i was surfing on internet, i've clicked on a link and Kaspersky warning message appeared on screen about a file that download to storage/downloads. Kaspersky deleted the file and as far as i can see from the download folder, it was gone.
*Here is the reported file name and the thread status; "flash.apk" "heur.trojan-dropper.androidos.hqwar.bt" I've scanned the phone with Kaspersky&Malwarebytes again and both programs found nothing.
Since i'm new to AndroidOS totally, i was wondering that do i need to reset OS to factory settings? I've read some discussions and they mentioned that some of the viruses can infect "internal storage/system" files and even i use the factory reset option, virus remains in the phone, reappears after factory reset i mean.
So, if the system files infected, flashing a new rom with a zip file that downloaded from oneplus.com wipes the previous system data?
Thanks in advance,
Regards,
Don't quote me on this, but as long as you didn't run the apk you should be fine.
Otherwise a factory reset should be fine.
Sent from my OnePlus7TPro using XDA Labs
Ya that's right, i did not run the apk but according to reports, hqwar does not need to be opened.
What about flashing the stock rom again? Does this write on current system files incase of an infect on backup storage?
Since i'm using bank apps daily, kinda concerned about this.

If you just downloaded it and it was deleted nothing could have happened...
