[Q] Car Air Vent Holder / 2A Cigarette Charger

Hello,
I had both these items with my old i9000 which I included when I sold it.
Looking to get a fitted air vent holder for my dashboard, as well as a car charger.
Based on past experience with the i9000, the car charger needs to be a 2A charger so I can charge the phone faster, as well as have it keep charging with the screen on for navigation. (and yes, I am aware a higher amperage could potentially wear the battery, happy to take the risk )
I got the original 2A charger from dealsextreme, but I can only see weaker/crappier chargers for sale on there at the moment. A brief search of ebay hasnt shown any moulded/fitted holders yet.
Ideas?

The official Samsung car charger CAD300Ube is at 0.7amps. I've seen aftermarket chargers at 1a but I havent seen any at 2 amps

I just picked up the Rockfish premium charger that is 2A. Haven't true it yet though.

I got a dual-port car charger from dealextreme and plugged a USB cable into the "ipad" port. It charges my SGS2 well and I do not notice any battery drain while I'm on a road trip using the SGS2 as GPS navigator. Well worth the $2 I paid for it.

I used one of these on my i9000 and will be getting one for my i9001

I bought a supposed 2 amp charger from deal extreme a while back. It wasn't 2amp. If you get one, test it to see what it actually puts through. The one I got was only .5 amp even though it was advertised as 2 amp.

How to check amp output? I have a 1A charger which can't charge my phone while navigating. Might buy another charger but first want to check if it isn't limited by the phone itself.

When I did it, it was on a Touch HD. I ran a couple of different battery monitor programs to see what it was pulling in. I found that almost every car charger (about 8 or 9 ) I tried was only 0.5 amp...some claimed 1amp some claimed 2amp, most claimed 0.5.

[Q] 2000/2100mah USB Car Adaptors ok for G-Note?

Hi all,
Just a quick question, anyone currently using a 2000 / 2100 mah USB car adaptor with their G-Note?
I currently have a 1000 mah adaptor I believe and after a 2.5 / 3 hour journey, whilst charging, connected to the cars bluetooth and using Co-Pilot, I was down to about 20 / 30 % I think at the end of it.
Will the 2000 / 2100 mah USB car adaptors off ebay be ok to use with the G-Note and will it help keep the phone charged when using the phone as a SatNav?

A DC power supply shouldn't be measured in mAh... Maybe they meant 2100 milliamperes? 2100 milliamps would be 2.1 amps which is the more amperage than my HP Touchpad charger (2 amps) which should be more than enough.
I don't know how much I would trust an ebay seller that can't even get the terms correctly, but if it's a 2.1 amp charger it should be fine.

Cool, thanks for the heads up PickleHead, I just thought that mAh was the rate of amp flow per hour and didn't realise it was specific for discharge rate of batteries. I'll have another look around.
Just had a look on the back of the USB mains plug for the Note and my Dell Streak and they both have OUTPUT @ 1.0A which is 1 amp right? But a 2.1 amp USB car adaptor should still be fine right? What about 3.1 or even 4.2 amp ones....or are they way too much for the Note?

I've also discovered today what a thirsty little beast the Note is while running satnav. I have a 1 amp car charger with the centre pins shorted together to force the phone to go into "AC Charging" mode, which it does perfectly well. However, over a 20 mile, 30 minute journey I was seeing the battery drop by about 1% per mile (every 90 seconds) whilst charging. That was with CoPilot Live Premium. On the way back I switched to Navfree, with pretty much the same result. I even have CoPilot set to dim the display in between turning announcements. On my old phone that make the difference between a solidly increasing charge and one that struggles to keep up. On the Note it was losing charge even with that feature enabled.
I'm going to need to be finding an alternate charger for the car, so recommendations would be welcome. I can't see a 2 Amp charger being a problem. The Note should take as much as it needs/wants, so long as the charger lets it have the juice it demands.
I would go for the official dock, except I'm told that it won't accommodate the Note whilst protected by a gel skin/case, so the official dock is a non starter for me.

My Griffen Powerjolt charges the battery while Google navigation is running.
It's possible Google nav is less of a power drain than Navfree. I'll have to try it.

I am using the original samsung galaxy tab charger which is rated at 2amps, it works fine with igo, but while using pandora, blurtooth a2dp and igo, the phone charges slowly...

I hav always used a 2A car adaptor as even the Nexus One was a thirst beast as it played the audio over bluetooth to the car dock that had its own speaker.
It works fine with Navigation/Navfree/Waze and the phone charges rather than discharges slowly with the lower power adaptors. The Official Samsung Car Dock comes with a power adaptor that is only rated at 1Amp.
The adaptor I use was intended for an iPad which needs at least 2A. Some adaptors have ratings that should be taken with a pinch of salt. If you can find one rated for an iPad (the type that plugs into the cigar socket and has a USB socket on it rather than an integral iPad connector) then you can't go wrong.

I have the micro usb power cable from the original htc Nexus One car dock. I believe that this provides a 2 amp charging current, and my note charges, albeit slowly while using the phone as a sat nav with google maps

On a similar note about charging (which seems appropriate here), I have the original Galaxy Tab which doesn't allow charging over USB with the standard cable. However I bought an adapter which allows the Tab to charge from a USB port but you can't use it for data, I'm wondering if it's ok to use the same adapter with the Note so it charges quicker off a USB port?

Car Charger

I bought the below car charger because the cheap generic one I had from an old phone couldn't keep up with the drain from the screen when running sat nav.

This also doesn't work, it loses a percent of charge every 10 minutes or so, while I'm aware this isn't alot and I can probably get anywhere in the UK on a full charge, the fact is I want my phone to actually be charging while it's plugged in as I don't always have a full charge and I may need it topping up on my journey in case I don't have another charging opportunity for a while.
I cannot find another genuine samsung product that claims to be compatible with the s2 (indeed the above "genuine" charger doesn't appear on Samsung's website.) There is one on their site (P10CBE In-Car Charger) however it claims to be only compatible with the galaxy tab. While I know it simply has a USB socket for use with any data cable, I'm worried it may damage the phone if rated too high in amps (700mA to 2A is a big jump.)
So I have 3 questions...
1) Is the tab charger safe to use, and does anyone else have this and can confirm it can keep up with the screen permanently on with google navigation running.
2) Can anyone suggest another brand that they have experience with it definitely keeping up with the charge on a galaxy s2, running screen etc.
3) I quite like the look of the official Samsung car mount, can anyone confirm if the charger included with this can keep up etc (also if you know what ampage it's rated to as I can't find this info on the product data.)

Use siyah's kernel to increase the charging current, how high you can go is anyones guess. Stock kernel supply's 450mA when plugged into a usb port and 650mA when plugged into a charger, i set mine to 800mA for both and all seems fine so far.

I have used a motorola car charger and this has actually worked better that the original samsung car charger, charges faster, and has a cool blue light. since the micro-usb is non-proprietary, you have lots of options.

Using an Official charger, better than those cheap ones that fail to keep the battery topped up while using the phone as a satnav.

I have a Sony Ericsson Original AN401 Compact Car Charger and it charges when using satnav.

The main problem with the cheap adapters is the output current, it tends to be too low for GPS. Make sure it is regulated & 750mah or higher.

Battery charger that will "keep up"?

I have a cheap USB charger I got on eBay.
I use my phone as a dash board cam (with the screen on) and the battery decharges faster than the charger can charge it.
Will it be possible for me to find a charger that will "keep up"

it could be either the usb cable if it's not stock or damaged but it very well may be the charger, look for a little bit higher end charger (as in not the cheapest one you can find) and it should work

The specs in the item description says 500-700 mA output at 5VDC. Not only is that low output current, but most list a minimum spec, not a range. You can probably assume 500 mA output for that one, which is not enough. The battery will discharge at a higher rate than that charger can provide.
Anyway, look for one that is rated for 1 Amp (or 1000 mA) output at 5 volts. This should be sufficient. I still use my HTC 1A charger that came with my Nexus One car dock for that reason.

Samsung phones seem to have 2 charging profiles, usb gives you around 450mah and ac gives you around 650mah.
650mah still isn't enough when doing nav/bluetooth streaming, until samsung starts using a full amp for charging you will never have a charger that will keep up.

I have been using this for quite a while now on Nexus 7, its just awesome. It has an output of 950+mah which would be enough for Nexus 7.

I used this Griffin-Powerjolt. Found it at walmart, and took it apart and soldered the two middle pins. But found my info here on XDA, but cant seam to find the thread. And I can play games, stream music, etc, and my charger keeps up and charges fine. But this post sums up your question.
Also I'm on AOKP JB and when I was on there ICS roms they have the charging mod so even when I had a cheap-o 500mah charger it saw it as an AC charger and charged at AC charge speed. I think also Cyanogenmod has implemented this also, but im not sure.

I use the 2A Amazon branded charger. You'll want to set it in fast charge, because the phone thinks it is a usb charger. You can open it and short the pins, if you want.

Actual current draw (aka...how fast your phone charges) is not determined by the charger but rather by the phone itself. The ratings on the chargers is what they are capable of, but will be dependent on the device. People would be frying devices all the time by using one device with anothers charging cable that has a totally different output if it was determined by the charger alone.

x3 on this charger. Have used it for the last couple of Android phones as well. Work fantastically with my Nexus streaming music via bluetooth to my car stereo. Never has a problem keeping up.

I'm using my N1 charger still too. Keeps up with nav, stream music, and max brightness. I don't use BT, but otherwise I always gain quite a bit of charge.

oh in another way, you could install a custom kernel and enable fast charging, works for me though.

I bought 2 of these charging only cables. They work perfect, full "AC" charge through any car charger port.

Put one in my car and my GFs car.
The problem is a "USB" charger spec doesn't allow for the higher voltage charging under most situations. Any cable that does provide the full "AC" charge is a 'non-USB compliant' charger (or something like that), thus, the cable I listed above doesn't say "USB" charger. That is a very brief explanation.

That works fine but I heard it uses your battery faster.

Which USB car charger are you using with Nexus Qi charging pad?

its dual port and has one for apple and the other for non apple phones.
the non apple port has 4.2amps output max.
it charges my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 easily and fast and shows as AC charging.
the first few weeks i was able to use this car charger with the Nexus Qi charging pad no problem but now it doesnt work and the charging pad shows a RED LIGHT which means its not getting enough amps.
when I plug that car charger directly to the Nexus 5 and 7 it still charges as AC easily and fast no problem so it boggles my mind why it just stopped working with the charging pad.
What USB charger are you guys using that is still working with no issues with the charging pad?

For some reason the black model is no longer available from Anker, so it's very expensive compared to the white... hopefully they get it back in stock.

Charging pads only need around 0.7 or 0.8A since they only output 0.5A so you don't need anything special for them.

generally true, but the nexus one is picky
