So I had no GPS after I flashed the MK2 modem. Can you lose GPS from going from Kit Kat back to Jelly Bean? I was on 4.2.2, then flashed 4.4.2, installed MK2, then decided to go try 4.3. What do you think? I ended up making a complete flash to Samsung Original Stock firmware MDL and finally, I see the birdies.

Totally weird. I just don't know what caused it.

I'm the exact opposite.. I had lost my GPS a few months back. Nothing restored it; different ROMs, GPS status apps from the Play Store, full restore to stock (both MDB and MDL) via Odin, etc. It wasn't until I flashed MK2 modem/bb that my GPS came back. :highfive:

Could you tell me which instructions you used for making the switch to MK2? There seems to be a lot of guides now and I'm in the same position that you were in, so I'd like to use whatever worked for you!

Both this and this do the same thing; I can't remember which exact one I followed, but they both end up with the same result.

Hello All
So i ended switching my phone m919 4.3 for m919 4.2.
I have a few questions since im a NOOB.
Do i benefit anything if i update to 4.3?
If i root my phone (m919 4.2) do i lose warranty?
Can i unroot 4.2, go to stock, than update to stock 4.3?
I know there is a version of 4.3 out there with no KNOX, if i were to install that, can i still go back to stock 4.2 ?
Thanks

#1: All the custom cwm/twrp flashable 4.3 zip file roms are KNOX free. (no knox)
#2: You will only get KNOX if you do a Kies update, Odin Flash 4.3 rom or allow the OTA update.
#3: As long as you don't have KNOX you can always flash back to any 4.2.2 zip file cwm/twrp roms.
#4: If you are rooted right now there is NO NEED to un-root before flashing a cwm/twrp flashable
zip file 4.3 custom rom like the Wicked or Darthstalker roms.
If you are on a 4.2.2 rom and you don't do any of the three things in #2 you do not need to worry about
KNOX at all.
I'm on stock 4.2.2 (not rooted), I've rooted my previous devices in the past. I'm coming from the t-mobile galaxy s2.
However, I personally love stock touchwiz with root, and a few bloatware items removed. But, I've read nothing but problems and issues from people having network connection issues to other things happening with their 4.3 flashes. And as to not discredit those people, I'm quite sure they have read and re-read directions several times, but still have issues. So, until those get worked out. I plan to stay right where I'm at. If I do end up rooting, it will be because I ran out of space on my phone and will be moving data to the sd card.
Hopefully you are a lucky one who doesn't suffer any data drops or sound issues when flashing to 4.3.
to each their own though.

You missed the people who update just their radios to MK2 and no longer have those mobile data problems on 4.3. There's a guide in the General section that's N00B friendly.

Just to point out, I never said EVERYONE. I just said people.
I'm sure some work flawless, and others not so much. But I know I read through page after page of issues. Some stated theirs worked, but I feel I read more non-working comments than working ones.

I just wanted to update to the new bootloader with the new LTE modem, because I have been seeing some problems b/w switching with LTE when using the new radio without the new LTE modem.
As you'll soon discover, I'm a noob. I stupidly took the OTA update on my Samsung Galaxy S3 T-Mobile T999 from 4.1.2 to 4.3. Since doing so mine and my wife's phone (did the same thing to her also) gets in a mess after being connected to the car stereo bluetooth and prevents outgoing calls unless the phone is rebooted.
So to try to solve this, I rooted the phone and installed CM 11, so now I'm on 4.4.2. This didn't help the issue either and instead is worse at connecting to the bluetooth.
I want to get my phone back to the stock 4.1.2 rom, which I got from sammobile (PDA T999UVDMD5) or at worst back to the 4.3 stock rom (PDA T999UVUEMJC).
This morning I tried to flash T999UVDMD5_T999TMBDMD5_T999UVDMD5_HOME.tar using ODIN 307 but it failed almost instantly with an Fail! Auth message.
I also tried to flash CM 10.1 zip on my SD card using ClockworkMod Recovery v 6.0.4.5 but again it failed almost instantly (sorry I didn't take note of the error).
So now I'm back to CM 11. So any suggestions for how to get back to either of the stock roms?

If you are getting errors in both odin and cwm, it sounds like it is a root issue. In other words, it sounds like the apps are being denied access to root and therefor cannot flash. Both odin and cwm are able to generate logs so you can tell the reason for the fail. Personally, I would recommend flasing twrp recovery instead of cwm since it seems to simplify alot and is a little better for our device. Without knowing exactly why the flash is failing, i would just recommend to try and re-root the phone again.
Did you put the phone in Downloading mode before connecting to the Odin ?
Do not try to flash 4.1.2 ever. It will brick your phone.

You cannot downgrade like that once you have updated to official 4.3 firmware, no offence but why would you try it even after Perseus said not to? Anyway if you want to go back to 4.1.2 so badly just download a 4.1.2 ROM and flash it in recovery

Downgrade from CM11 4.4.2 to 4.3 on I747
I went from 4.3 stock to CM11 on my i747 but i didnt like the update. So i am trying to go back to 4.3 however whenever i try to install the 4.3 zip file thru twrp or CWM, it fails. As far as i know there is no odin file for going back. I tried to flash rogers 4.3 file through odin (thinking i would flash at&t modem later) but that also failed.
I would appreciate any help on how to install 4.3 once 4.4.2 has been installed on an i747

Please Read through this Thread. For Future Reference, all Odin Files for S3 in general are looked up by unique Keyword Root66. That thread is the right place for you to post errors or issues. If there's no 4.3 image for your phone there, you can post a request as well.
For your immediate Problem, there is a an alternate ATT StockMod Rom by @saranhai Please see this thread. Pay particular attention to the mandatory requirement of flashing a particular modem beforehand.
I have a VM l710 that came with 4.3. I managed to install ClockworkMod v6.0.4.3 and flashed Slimbean. I had a few issues with Slimbean so I decided that I wanted to go back to stock. But, of course, I forgot to run a back up in CM. I eventually found an OTA update for my phone that was 4.1.2. I installed it and everything works well. Its rooted and I still have CM. I get update notifications every so often but it does not seem to update my phone and now I am stuck at 4.1.2.
Is there a way I can update to 4.3?
Would I be able to find an OTA of 4.3, flash it, and then use knox remover? Or 4.1.2 --> 4.2 --> 4.3 if 4.1 --> 4.3 is too big of a jump?
Sorry if this question has been answered before, I tried google but since I had 4.3 before and now have 4.1.2 I don't want to mess up a bootloader or something.
Thank you

Thanks. I updated with this ROM.
Everything works well except mobile data. I flashed the recommended modem but it didn't help.
Any recommendations for this?
EDIT: flashed an MK5 modem, everything works now.

Hi Guys. I got my T-Mobile Galaxy S4 in May of last year. I promptly (as soon as I got home) rooted it. It is on Baseband M919UVUAMDB and I am currently running a December 9 nightly of CM11 (4.4.1) because any newer versions cause an issue with sleep and Wifi. If my phone goes into deep sleep with WIFI on, my screen will completely freeze, requiring a battery pull.
Now I've tried multiple roms running TW based on 4.3 (Guessing they're based on the M919UVUEMK2 OTA), but they all drop data.
Now that M919UVUFNB4 is out, I was wondering what would happen if I flashed to that (waiting for a pre-rooted ROM)?
Will I have the same issues? I love CM, but TW is full of features I like to use and would like to swap back and forth if possible.
What are my options? I no longer have any backups of any stock roms (I do have a 4.2 TW ROM backed up that had NO issues. I believe it was deodexed as well, if that has to do with anything).

The data drops are because you have the MDB modem. If you want to run those 4.3 based ROMs, you need either the hybrid MK2 modem (reversible, knox-free) or the full MK2 modem (not currently reversible, installs knox). The same situation would exist with the MDL modem.
See this thread for instructions to install the hybrid modem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2546024
I don't know, but I'd guess the situation will be similar with the new KitKat release. To run the new ROMs properly, you'll probably need the newest modem (either a hybrid or full). I'm fairly confident that you'll run into the same issues if you're on MDB, but again, this portion is speculation. MK2 might end up being sufficient, or NB4 might be required. I won't be surprised if a hybrid MDL/NB4 modem pops up soon.

I think so, but I'm not 100% sure. It looks like the same deal as the hybrid I've been using, and that I linked in my first response in this thread, just with the NB4 GSM modem and the MDL bootloader instead of the MK2 modem and MDL bootloader.
I never want to be among the first to flash new radios though. I hold off until I see a LOT of success stories and a lot of devs recommending them.

Yeah, it's also the reason I never flash OTAs, and am on such an ancient baseband. Thanks again!
Way back on 4.1.1 I used CF Auto Root and everything was grand on my AT&T phone.
Then the OTA upgrade nagging started... I caved, it finally annoyed me too much yesterday at work so I let the update do its thing.. and thats when my nightmare started.
it downloaded, it updated, it rebooted and hung at the AT&T logo.
I pulled the battery and powered back up.. it wasn't going to budge.
I had all the content I wanted on the SD so I tried to format cache and restore.. no dice.
I fired up Odin and after a LOT of screwing around it finally came back to life.. booted up on 4.3 but the baseband is hosed.
My warranty bit is set, my fused count is 3 > binary 0.
I think I understand the basic problem, I probably have a 4.2 modem with a 4.3 bootloader and I can't downgrade, I can't upgrade to 4.4 OTA without a working modem.
ANY help pointing me in the right direction from this mess I've created will be greatly appreciated.
so now I'm really confused, I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
Downloaded this file to the flash card and installed it with twrp: modem_CWM_I747UCUEMJB.zip
did not change a thing, baseband still unknown.
Actually, I'm thinking you may have actually already updated to 4.4.2. That would explain why the 4.3 modem doesn't help.
Install terminal emulator and enter this:
getprop ro.bootloader
This will tell you what firmware you are on and what modem you need.
You are correct ro.bootloader = I747UCUFNE4
ro.build.PDA = I747UCUEMJB
there isn't an NE4 option on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898

In my case I just installed the wrong modem, Wifi and LTE still works for me. I hope you get that part fixed
WiFi is firmware/kernel dependant now. So if you are running a 4.3 rom/kernel, on top of 4.4.2 firmware, WiFi will not work.
Same is true if running a 4.4.2 rom/kernel on top of 4.3 firmware.
In both cases you need to flash a custom kernel such as kt747.
