Suddenly my mobile data doesn't work on T Mobile's IPv6 APN. Works fine on IPv4.
I get the same results on all ROMs I've tried. I flashed a couple 4.3 and 4.4 ROMS and got the same results with a clean install and no added apps or settings.
My wife's phone connects with ipv6 just fine on the same network.
This is on the MDL baseband using any rom, aosp or tw.
The only thing I haven't tried is restoring to stock with Odin, but I really don't want to do that just to test to see if it's a network issue. I can't imagine is a hardware ware problem since the cell network is fine and data works fine on the IPv4 APN. If it was hardward, those shouldn't work.

I'm still getting the 'automatic' APN change on my phone, on CM11 and Carbon 4.4 - but I did notice that every once in a while I'll stop receiving data, and have to switch APNs. Once I do, and put it back to the IPv6, it starts working.
What I see could definitely be a ROM issue, though. Could also be a location-based issue? (I'm around the DC area, and get fantastic speeds on LTE, and horrible speeds on Edge.)

I could deffinately be location based. But I'm not leaving this general area anytime soon so I can't test that theory.
It's not a speed issue for me. The data works, just only on the IPv4 APN. It will not work on the IPv6 APN aat all.
I checked the APN settings. They are good. I even just switched the IPv4 to 6 in the working APN and that kills it, but comes right back when I switch it back to 4.
This came out of nowhere.
I'd been using the IPv6 APN for months.
And it's not ROM based. A fresh install of any other ROM has the same results.
Weirdness.
Just curious, why are you so set on using IPv6? The only upside to it is having a unique IP address once IPv4 addresses are exhausted - which they aren't just yet. If it avoids the issue, why not stick with IPv4?

Because that's not the only advantage.
I like to keep my mobile data turned off until I need it. This prevents a few different issues for me.
However, MMS messages require a data connection. The ROM is capable of turning data on to send and receive an MMS message automatically, but on certain ROMs it doesn't work properly on the IPv4 APN. It needs the IPv6 APN to work. On IPv4 it will turn data on but it won't connect properly and the message will hang indefinitely in an in downloaded state.
IPv4 works fine for MMS if the data is already turned on when the message comes in. But it doesn't work on auto data. I have no idea why. I don't really care why. I just know I need the IPv6 mobile network to be able to keep my data turned off and still get MMS messages.

This goes under development because its a problem with my phone regarding the development so before the cyanogen rom release i had eugene's froyo5 and it worked fine.. well my fiance picked up the phone ****ed around with it and now no matter what 2.2 rom i use i can't get INTERNET sites to load or.. MARKET to sync my account or communicate this is with cyanogen rom and eugene's froyo6.. now my wifi will see connections connect and even gather info/ip addy from the wifi however it will not let me load pages ect.. now in 2.1 running the old RADIO + Slidemeroot5 or whatever it's called the stock with root it will go into the wifi/find/communincate and load my MARKET/INTERNET just fine.. so it has to be with a setting that would stay threw data/cache wipe with Cyanogen Kanged heres the thing.. I've wiped many times I've even tried restoring old backups from froyo5 they no longer let me sync/internet/market so.. anyone who can find a solution will receive an IMMEDIATE $20.00 donate and if done in a timely fashion an addition $10.00...
I will not be able to RE-ROOT or UN-ROOT my phone as i do not have my USB cable anymore

Lol! Yeah, it sounds about right. I have'd had that streak before.

Google tmobile apn android and they'll list the proper apn settings. I don't have time to type them all out right now.
oppsy, I see some folks beat me to it and you need the at&t settings anyways. Just google at&t android apn settings. That should do it.
you will need proper APN setting for your carrier, google that shiz and you should be good to go, then you will just need to add the APN to your phone from that same screen
apns are different for each carrier, google APN <carrier> mytouch slide(or just android)

Huh? No data plan huh. Yeah, that will matter. Umm, so you have been using wifi to access internet right?
Okay from what I understand... wifi is real iffy with the 2.2 ports. You might have to select static and type in your ip settings from your pc. Just go on the pc and run command prompt and type ipconfig. That will tell your ip setting and enter them into the correct slots on your phone. Its under menu settings wireless& networks wifi settings menu advanced select static ip

Reread the first post. It says my WIFI will connect info and all that and above he states he doesn't have a data plan so its going to have to be wifi hes on.
Now I am having the same problem ever since I flashed the ROM and wiped twice and reflashed twice. Trying static IP now.
alas no luck on STATIC, question is why would I need to set up static when it should auto connect and auto know ya know? i'd like to be able to use WIFI outside of my home aswell
So right now it doesn't work on any rom now? If it's the cyan kernel, try dumfuq's oc kernel, I know it sounds strange but i tried one of cyan's kernel and somethings stopped working, led flashlight is one...Tried the new dumfuq and it worked for me. No promises though that it will work for your wifi problem.
your ip address of your router is 192.168.0.1 which means that your IP address of your phone will have to be 192.168.0.x since the computer is 192.168.0.199 i would try something around the 199 range(try going plus or minus 10) so either 192.168.0.189 or 192.168.0.209
also you will have to set subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and gateway to 192.168.0.1

I have a strange problem with my Galaxy Nexus. When I connect to the internet using the mobile network, the connection is extremely slow. (And by slow I mean around 2-3 minutes to fully load the google mobile search page). I tried the "Speed Test" app to test the network speed, but it simply fails after a while mentioning "Network communication issues" (maybe it times out?).
The weird thing is that other devices can access the internet fine when connected to the internet through the Nexus by enabling its WiFi hotspot feature. So the other devices can use the Nexus's internet connection with acceptable speeds while the Nexus itself can't. Anybody got any ideas as to why this happens? One thing I could think of was that the DNS given to the Nexus by the mobile network being slow (whereas the other devices connected to it use the DNS in their WiFi settings). I tried to verify this by using the "DNS Changer" app, but it didn't solve the problem, although I'm not sure that it actually changed the DNS used by the Nexus.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Bump for a solution for this man!

Problem solved!
Finally found the culprit! It wasn't DNS after all. My carrier's data settings include an IP and port for a proxy. When I configured the APN on the phone, I entered them simply because they were there. Turns out that keeping them empty solves the speed issues on the phone. So the bottleneck was the carrier's proxy server. I guess tethered clients don't use the proxy setting on the phone and therefore didn't experience the speed issue.
Inspiration fixed wifi hotspot not connecting to internet
I wanted to thank you because your solution helped me fix my problem. I couldn't connect my native wifi hotspot on my GSM Galaxy Nexus to my Nexus 7. The wifi indicator would come on to my N7 but it stayed gray (i.e. wasn't connected to the internet). Turns out that last month I set up an APN to connect to T-Mobile via IPv6. Well, apparently, this creates a problem with using the wifi hotspot. I switched back to regular T-Mo connection and...if works! My GNex/N7 combo is fully functional. Thanks again for the inspiration!

You are my hero man. Thank you
After a few weeks from the original post, I'm still having problems with data connection. In the meantime, I have completely wiped my phone and reinstalled stock Jelly Bean from Google. But the problem remains. But I noticed that, when I receive an MMS and my signal bars become grayed out without moving arrows, I can still receive and send MMS. Isn't data connection necessary for that? I can't do anything else that requires it, though.
Do you think that the problem may be with APN settings? I have set everything like my carrier provided.
Any idea? I really don't want to root my phone in order to fix this. But I guess only that will help?
Quick recap: Nexus 4.1.1 JB, loses data connection after receved MMS, can still send/receive MMS but nothing else. Phone restart required in order to fix the problem.
Just bumping this tread if somebody maybe knows anything about my problem.
Here's my theory:
Since the MMS and data APN are separate, when you sent a MMS, the APN switches from mobile data to MMS, therefore you lose your data connection.

Thank you! That's seems like a logical explanation. But, since I'm not yet experienced on this area, do you have any idea how can I solve this issue?
Try merging both APNs, pull the MMSC and port to your data APN, then add mms to the apn type.

I came from a GS4 where I used Private Internet Access VPN and WiFi Tether Router. On the Note both services connect but do not route any traffic, my thinking its related to knox. Would a custom ROM fix that? At this point I have to either trip the counter or take this thing back for an iPhone 5S before the jailbreak is patched.
***FIXED
All that needed to be done is to have this setting changed, I can use WiFi tether along with VPN running at the same time so I never hit my hotspot limit because Tmo cant tell if the traffic is from a phone or other device.
To change your APN, simply navigate to Settings > More > Mobile networks > Access Point Names. Select your T-Mobile APN, and scroll to APN protocol. Change this to IPv4, and then save your APN.

Now the counter shows as tripped whenever the phone is restarted, I hope tmo will take it back because I'm just going to try to trade this for a 5S.

I'm on custom rom, thats probably why.
I'm not so sure its just my VPN provider anymore. I've tried a few different apps and I get the same issues.
I'm currently with Private Internet Access (PIA) and I've tried both their app and OpenVPN and sometimes it will connect on LTE but I get no active data transfer.
I have reason to believe its because g3 doesn't do ipv4 anymore? But that doesn't make much sense as OpenVPN works over ipv6 supposedly. Is this an issue with my provider or the g3? I can't seem to figure it out. Anybody else having VPN issues? Please post results.
I am aware I can use native VPN feature but I don't like that I can't use a knock code for credentials.
This thread might be of help for you in regards to getting VPN to work: T-Mobile D851 IPV4 Support
The two main posters in there are trying to get IPV4 to work on the G3, as one of them, The Pagel, was trying to get it to work for their own VPN apps.

The issue is probably that you are getting a private IPv4 address from the provider, as well as a public IPv6 address (LTE areas only).
Most companies are still running VPNs on IPv4, and some VPNs won't play well with certain NAT implementations, which is used when you have a private IP address.
When you disable 4G and eHRPD, you will start getting a public IPv4 address again.
As you may have heard, we are running out of IPv4 addresses, and provider using NAT and Private IP addresses is a work around until more people deploy IPv6. Once your company deploys a VPN on IPv6, things should improve. However, this could take a while as this is a major transition and in some cases will require software/firmware updates on network equipment. Also, some very old operating systems don't always support IPv6, so all of that has to be retired as well.
Anyone know of a VPN service that runs IPv6 that would work on android? PIA doesn't work at all
I ran that patch from the other post, and no luck. Not a single VPN connection works on this phone. I am debating if I should take it back, as a VPN is a necessity to me
Did you mess around with your vpn settings at all maybe you should uninstall then re install? Pia is working fine for me with ipv4 in fact I am posting right now from my g3 on the vpn.

Yeah native tether still doesn't work but everything else does. A few people have had problems but not many. I would suggest you make a backup before you do it because xposed is kind of a jealous lover and hates when you eye other modifications. But on the other hand it really depends on what xposed modules your using.

I think it's something with LG's android build. When i had my Moto X I could use PIA on LTE. I did not check to see if it kicked itself to IPv4 but that seems to be the problem. It works if you have the EPC T-Mobile APN set to IPv4 and connect through HSPA+.

ipv4 is definitely locked down for fast on this tmobile version but it is luckily a easy work around if you don't mind loosing built in tether. I have confidence that built in tether will be fixed for that mod soon but I am currently using my phone tinkering time (limited atm) on a korean port that wont require any modifications. Before I stop caring about tmobile builds ill fix it. Something I am sure a lot of people might find interesting is after my first boot on the korean port it is looking like I might be able to bring voice over lte to our phone before it officially happens.
