(Q) can some help with this!!!! - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Okay, Heres the thing. I was on TW Stock 4.3 Debloated Odex v1.0. I wanted to try something different plus the TW was getting old, so I wanted to go to a CM based ROM. I tried to flash Liquids ROM and it didnt go through. Ive tried Task's ROM and that didnt work. I want to try and flash the bootloaders but Im scared to brick my phone can someone give me some advice?

I personally have tried everything I know to flash something other than TW on my phone since I got it, with no luck finding anything that will flash and it never made any difference when I was on 4.1.1 or now that I am on 4.3, I really like my SIII but the lack of freedom enforced by Samsung and the carriers has turned me totally against Samsung, my next phone will be a Nexus 5, I am even having trouble with the TW roms I make with now with Android Kitchen, maybe someone else will be able to explain and why nothing, I can find that's being developed for I747M, in the 8 months I had this phone have not been able to find 1 working rom that will flash on the I747M, I am not in Canada though I am in Mexico

What bootloader do you have?

If I am not mistaken you have to update the bootloader to do it
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app

I assume you have the canadian samsung s3 i747m.
I had this problem as well but I managed to do some digging and fix the problem. The problem was that the developers forgot to add I747MVLUEMK5 as a bootloader in the "updater-script". The updater script is responsible to make sure you don't flash the wrong rom with the wrong samsung model. Since i747mvluemk5 was not added, the phone failed the inspection. To solve this, add the bootloader "I747MVLUEMK5" into the d2att cyanogenmod zip file. Basically, this is what you do:
1) Download the d2att stable 10.2 cyanogenmod
2) unzip the d2att stable 10.2 cyanogenmod
3)And then open META-INF>com>google>android>updater-script
4)Once you found updater-script, open it with notepad
5)Then you must add this bootloader script since it is missing: || getprop("ro.bootloader") == "I747MVLUEMK5"
6)Obviously, don't just copy exactly like mine, but make sure I747MVLUEMK5 is there. Not sure, but i think you can delete one of the bootloaders such as I747MUMBLL1 and replace it with I747MVLUEMK5 instead.
7)after you made your change of the updater-script, rezip the files and flash it.

[Q] Unable to flash Stock ROM

I bought a T-Mobile Galaxy S 3 LTE with model number SGH-T999L. I used Odin V3 1.85 to flash TWRP recovery and CyanogenMod 10.0.0.
Everything went well but my camera doesn't work. On launching the camera, I get a "Can't connect to camera" error and it quits. The same behavior is observed when using other camera apps. I tried the instructions in this thread(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2239414) but it did not fix my problem. I now want to go back to my stock ROM. I successfully downloaded and flashed stock recovery using Odin. However, Odin fails when I try to flash the stock ROM obtained from the samsung website. It gives me a "write failed" error and stops. Any tips or suggestions to help me out would be appreciated. Thanks
Is it supposed to use T999 firmware?
Only odin flash T999L firmware. I dont see it released yet at samsing-updates.com though.
Maybe samfirmware.com? I can look later.

Why not reflash the stock ODIN flash rom and make sure it all works ok for you, that will tell you exactly what the problem is.
If the stock rom is working properly, then there is only one thing left which is the culprit and that is the CM10/AOKP/AOSP
or PORTED roms which many people seem to like flashing.
The CM10/AOKP/AOSP and ported roms are excellent if you are a developer or if you like to do a lot of experimentation with your phone.
So the thing to do now is reboot your phone to recovery mode, do a "Factory Reset", "Wipe Cache", "Wipe System" and "Wipe Dalvik".
When that's done Open Odin and put the stock rooted T999 Tmobile Jellybean 4.1.2 into Odin's PDA slot, go into download mode
and once you see Odin is connected to the phone start the flash. Have patience for the phone to boot after its done flashing.
Here is the stock rooted Odin flash T999 Tmobile Jellybean 4.1.2 rom that you can download if you like: T999_UVDMD5
Official JB Firmware - Latest JB 4.1.2 Firmware
My suggestion to you is to only flash Samsung T999 Tmobile stock based Jellybean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 roms in the future.
But who am I to say whats best..... This is just my personal opinion...... Which usually is not worth a dime. LOL

I am a newbie. I thought the T999 was the same as the T999L. That would explain why Odin doesnt flash stock T999 onto my device. Can anyone here post a link to the stock SGH-T999L ROM?
Just did a quick check and I dont see that the firmware has been made available for download yet.
If you want stock I would flash one of the stock based custom roms via recovery for now.
Out of curiosity, what is your current baseband version?

I had the same issue with the same phone. Got it 2 weeks ago haha. Did you happen to make a backup first using CWM Recovery? If so, you can just restore that backup and you'll have your camera functionality back. It's pretty annoying switching back and forth from CM10.1 back to stock just to take pictures but Rom manager makes it pretty quick and effortless.
Actually now that I think of it, they prob wont release the original firmware. Seems like the first build is never available, only when an update is released do we get firmware we csn download.
I am working with another member on getting something going for the T999L, but right now we are stuck until a verified safe method of rooting is found. (Dont want to flash a recovery or cf autoroot w/o knowing it wont screw something up)
Itll happen, but we just gotta be patient.
Just reread the op and see that you say you flashed TWRP. So you were able to initially gain root without any problems?

I used Odin to flash Clockwork Mod recovery first. I did not like Clockwork Mod's interface and reflashed with TWRP. I had no problems to gain root with either of these methods. I also tried Cyanogenmod stable 10.0.0 and then 10.1 RC2 without any problems. As far as I can tell, all apps work except for the camera. One word of caution though. As you can see from my posts, I am new and dont know what I am doing. I might have just gotten lucky since my device is still unbricked. I had only one "scary" moment during the entire process. I used TWRP to wipe my phone clean and was stuck with no OS install file. ADB sideload did not work since it could not recognize the device at that point. Luckily, I had a micro SD card lying around and was able to put in a new OS install file using my laptop and then TWRP was able to handle it.

T999L - Pull Recovery before Rooting??

Hey Guys,
I know it is probably not possible, but in case it is, I wanted to post the question.
I have been working with MotoDefier for a few days now learning about the new model S3 (SGH-T999L). Because there is no firmware available for download yet, we are trying to find a way to either pull the stock recovery before rooting, or figure a way to root without flashing CWM or TWRP first.
The ultimate goal here is to pull all of the parts that are included in firmware updates, and create the firmware from there. This way, if anyone runs into problems, they will be able to Odin back to stock.
Moto has already tried several different rooting methods, including CF-AutoRoot, and has had no luck so far. So if anyone has any ideas on how we can get this done, please do share!
Thanks!
Doc
This may be out of place but perhaps the 999l is closer recovery to the s4? I don't know. But have you tried to pull it with the paid version of the s3 toolkit?
I wish I could help. Sorry Doc
Sent while sleeping in chair.
Doesnt the toolkit flash recovery though? Ive never actually used it. Ill look into it though, thanks.
As far as it being closer to the S4, im just not sure. I do know you can root by flashing the T999 CWM or TWRP, then superuser. Plus.from what I see the overall layout is the same as the original T999.
Thanks for the reply!

I don't have an answer for your question, but wouldn't the only way be through flashing an insecure kernel (exploit)? Then you could push SU and you would have your recovery. But then you lose the kernel.
Can't you download the firmware through Kies? I know it's not on sammobile, but I would think that Kies would be able to restore the factory image. The prospect of Kies not being able to do this is ridiculous. If that's the case, it's even more useless than I previously thought.

I was actualy thinking the same thing about the kernel. Just sent a PM to one of the guys who already rooted to see if they would pull the boot.img for me. Im not worried about losing the kernel, as I will still have the original copy after setting it to insecure.
Moto already tried getting the firmware through kies, but it didnt work. We figure that its because there is no publicly released firmware to begin with. As to the uselessness of Kies......completely!
.......I was just thinking, when you flash CM, it flashes its own kernel with it, right? (Its been a long time since Ive messed with CM, sorry). If thats the case, i wont be getting the kernel from the guy I PM'd.
Does anyone else have the new model T999L? If so have you rooted yet, or do you plan to? If so, please PM me if you are willing to help us out with this.
And by all means, hit me with any other ideas you guys may have!
Yes, it flashes it's own battery hog kernel.
Well, I hope I dont jinx anything by announcing too early, but I think we got it!
It appears that using the motochopper exploit did the job. It was originally created for a Motorola device, but as it turns out it will work on a number of Qualcomm based devices.
I got the info from the S4 forums.
It appears the main thread is in the ATT forum here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248
Here it is reposted in the Tmobile S4 forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2258633
Just wanted to share in case anyone's interested in taking a look.
Note: it looks like the latest updates may have been patched against this exploit. Just fyi.

Ill be working tonight and tomorrow on getting some sort of flashable firmware put together so you guys have a way back to stock if need be.
Also I have a deodexed rom based on the T999L almost ready in case anyone wants to mess with it. Just got to double/triple check my work and test first. There are a few differences from the original T999 so im curious to see if any of it is noticeable while its running.

What I meant was pulling files from device without pushing anything to it. I believe this is an option within the toolkit, not sure if paid version required. Hmmm.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda premium
What I was getting at, was that we didnt want to use the toolkit because it flashes recovery. And I could be mistaken, but Im pretty sure the toolkit requires you to root first, then it can pull system firmware for you. Either way though, we got what we needed. I am uploading files now and will post shortly.
Note that most of what I am doing is currently untested. I do not have a T999L, and I dont want to take the chance of flashing certain parts of the T999L to it. I am confident that it will work, or i wouldnt release any of it, but just for full disclosure.....!
I dont believe it needs root and it wont do anything you dont want it to do unless you tell it to do it. All of that aside, I wasnt trying to pimp the toolkit, I just thought it might work, but as I have little knowledge about that which I am talking, I'll just defer to you fellows as you seem to know a thing or two about a thing or two.
:screwy:
Sent while sleeping in chair.
I have the T999L, I used the Toolkit to flash TWRP and then updated it to 2.5.0.0 from Doc's page, I then flashed SuperSU 1.30, wiped Cache and Dalvik, then rebooted. Bam, Rooted. But it not 100%, ROM Manager doesn't seem to have root, but Adfree Android, TiBackup and ES File Explorer. I'm going to uninstall ROM Manager and then reinstall to see if that helps.
Thanks again to DocHoliday77 for his help.
EDIT: I found out why ROM Manager was failing, BusyBox was not installed. I installed it and everything works.

How would i do that
There are lines in the with in the roms.zip
meta-inf>com>google>android>updater-script>
assert(getprop("ro.bootloader") =="t999.......) and the three other bootloaders it checks for.
I'm guessing you can remove these lines and rezip and it will flash, but I am not going to do so, and don't plan on trying... I can remove those lines and rezip it for you to try and flash and see how it goes. I would put 20$ down that it won't harm the phone but not 600 (new) or 180 (insurance) lol.
Until someone else tries i will wait
I edit lines in there when roms fail to install cause they are specific to att, just incase anyone else really wants it, just post and let me know. I'm off til Thursday so I have time at some point each day to do so. if anyone with more knowledge wants to confirm let me know, so that there is more comfort to this.

Ohhhhh not possible yet. And if I remove those and it installs fine, you may still run into errors cause the CM team asks for people to be on the latest bootloaders to have it run no issues.

yes, i'm wiping everything, whenever i try to install any other rom i have some type of error. i'm new to this so please excuse my noobness. i've tried to flash a stable cm10, among others with no luck.

The new S3 have been modded by Sprint /Samsung and require a modded recovery in order to mount storage. The other issue is that you can not flash an aosp style rom. You should be able to flash any TW rom but it won't allow aosp roms to flash. None of the developers have a new S3 so until someone gets one ir someone volunteers one this won't be solved.

If your getting a status 7 error that is the bootloader error flash this in recovery it will update all your firmware and bootloader. http://db.tt/Qt6NcH0a
After flashing this make sure you reboot the phone then try going back into recovery and flashing the rom you want.

No need to use any removal method if your going to flash a rom. Afaik all roms already have it removed. But if you want to remain on your current build but remove knox, yes flash the removal as per instructions where you find it. (I think theres one in AT&T forums that might be easier to find).

Root T999 (variants) on android 4.3 AND remove knox
:good:
Forgot about that one! Thanks! It is old though so as I said before I dont know if itd be a complete removal on NC2 firmware. It should be fine, but no guarantees.

ok..so i uninstalled with knox removal zip.Im running 4.3 ota rooted twrp 2.6.3 can i install any t999 rom or only 4.3+ up because i seen somewhere on here you cant install older builds because the bootloader on 4.3 dont play well with older builds
You can flash older roms just fine. As for if they'd be better or worse on 4.3 firmware I'm not sure. Should be ok though, depending on how old you want to go. The further back, the more likely it is you might see some issues, but not many have done this so I can't say for sure.

Thanks:good:..One more thing,ok im running stock 4.3 rooted build uvuenc2 t999 twrp recovery 2.5.0.0 i read that i cant restore backup with twrp do i overwrite twrp with cwm to backup or what also while backing up in twrp do i backup boot, cache or just system,data,etc..
System - rom
Boot - kernel
Data - (apps, settings, etc)
I use twrp 2.7.0.0 and have no issues. Haven't used cwm in several years. Yours is very old though. If you dont update it it will probably give you problems.

CM still hasnt bothered to update their updater-scripts to include the latest firmware builds. You will have to manually edit the script and either delete ALL "assert" lines, or add your firmware build to it.

Well i also tried to flash a different rom using twrp 2.7.0 t999 4.3 and got the same error??and also where could i find a good editing script tried 7zip but it came with malware so had to delete.I really like cm and want to try.
Use Notepad++ for editing the script. Get it here: http://notepad-plus-plus.org/
Get 7-zip from here: http://7-zip.org
Not sure where you got yours if it says its malware. I've been using it for years with zero issues and believe it can be trusted. Just extract the contents of the rom, find the updater-script in the meta-inf folder tree and edit with notepad++. Also delete the signatures if they are present (3 files in the meta-inf folder). Some roms have them, some dont. CM probably does.
There are many roms out there that have not been updated to include the latest firmware builds. You more than likely got another one like it.
