Flashed wrong Engineering HBoot - got recovery and fastboot - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi again!
I was trying to Root my Desire Z but I made a horrible mistake - flashed Engineering HBoot for T-Mobile G2 instead of one for Desire Z (I guess it makes a difference) and now my phone stucks at boot. I can go into fastboot mode and into recovery. I think I need to flash correct HBoot, but I have no idea how. So, could you give me steps how to make my phone booting again? I hope it is possible.
Edit:
Ahm, I don't know if it's important, but I made a gold card in this phone while I was downgrading software.

You can flash either bootloader but the DZ one is often preferred as it has a larger system partition
can you write down current info from bootloader screen here

Double check md5sum then flash the image through fastboot
fastboot flash hboot nameofhboot.img
then
fastboot reboot-bootloader
all should now be good
then boot to recovery and flash ROM of choice
see here for more info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2348266
under the adb and fastboot section up top
look for how to why to for fastboot and you will get more in depth info
also check out the little more info on fastboot
if you get stuck or have more questions feel free to ask, and i highly suggest looking through the whole thread i linked ya
happy flashing!

[Q] Virtuous Unity Sense 3.0 and DZ problem

Hi, i downloaded Virtuous 1.27, full wiped and flashed DZ in CWM 3.0.2.4. When i reboot my phone begins boot but restart and boot in Recovery mode. I can setup other ROM. What i did wrong?
it sounds like you have the G2 hboot installed and you need the DZ hboot to use this ROM.
To check which you have boot in to the bootloader and on the top line it will say either
0.76.2000 which is the G2 hboot
or
0.84.2000 which is the DZ hboot
If you have the G2 hboot you will need to follow the instructions here to flash the DZ hboot.
thanks for fast answer, i also thought, but if i have CWM installed i boot in CWM. How i can check which one hboot i have?
Turn your phone completely off then press volume down and power at the same time to boot into the the bootloader.
Or if you have adb installed plug you phone in and type adb reboot bootloader
i have 0.82.0000 hboot
when you rooted did you install the eng hboot?
can you post exactly what it says when you go in to the bootloader.
Vision pvt ship s-off
hboot-0.82.0000
microp-0425
radio-26.06.02.27_M
eMMC-boot
and other menu stuff.
I dowloaded zip file in post that you given. whithin zip file is hboot 0.82.0000
sorry for broken english
I thought that the hboot included in the PC10IMG.zip was 0.84.2000.
But your correct in the zip is the 0.82.0000. I have just asked RMK if this is correct.
might flash anyway? Or what i can do more?
You should be safe to flash. Just follow the instructions carefully
thanks a lot to you cjward23

Questions about SHIP S-OFF and ENG S-OFF

My desire z is only Ship S-Off. i.e. I only did
"4.b. S-OFF, Super-CID, SIM-unlock, clockwork recovery and root" on Wiki.
I noticed that in the HTC Vision Wiki, ENG S-OFF is recommended over SHIP S-off:
Quoted: "From now on we recommend to install the engineering hboot as part of the gfree procedure."
Are there any reasons behind?
Would it be possible for me to install the engineering hboot after I have done SHIP-OFF using instruction 4.b.?
One more question:
Is ENG S-OFF safer than SHIP S-OFF? I found there is no way to flash Recovery without booting to Android if I am only SHIP S-OFF, both fastboot and HBOOT methods are not working for me. So if Recovery crashed and SHIP S-OFF, is my phone bricked and no way to be rescued?
Thank you.
A good guide to read

Can I use gfree to flash by command:
./gfree -b hboot-eng.img

One more question:
I found "recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-vision.zip" in CWM download directory, could I rename it to PC10IMG.zip and flash it via HBOOT?
Follow the instructions exactly and you cant go wrong

You do need Engineering Hboot in order to use fastboot to flash your recovery image. And yes, this does allow you another option in the event your phone is unbootable - which I find reassuring. So on the one hand it is a precautionary tool, but it also stops checking if the PC10IMG.zip is for your specific device. So you need to be extra careful when using PC10IMG files.
I flashed ENG Hboot after I had rooted/S-OFF/etcetera... but the root method I used also included a script for ENG Hboot that I was able to follow after the fact. As others have said, I would simply follow the wiki and get yourself set up.
So if I didn't flash any HBOOT, the hboot in my DZ is DZHBOOT, am I correct?
Can I safely flash Virtuous Unity and BeatMod BlissSense?
For the ENG HBOOT in wiki:
HTC Desire Z: vision.hboot-0.84.2000.zip (md5sum 2CE1BDD5E4C1119CCFCECB938710D742)
Is this a DZHBOOT as well?
How to distinguish between a G2HBOOT and DZHOOT?
Sorry for having loads of questions. I did google but couldn't find exactly what I want.

If you boot into bootloader you will see at the top which hboot version you have, and as the wiki says thats the version you want if you want the engineering hboot, the link i sent you explains why, flash it and thats you fully rooted and ready to run unity

Thanks!
Actually I tried looking for the version through booting into bootloader before. I got the version number only.
It says HBOOT 0.85.0005, and I have no idea what it means.
Thats the version number, the engineering hboot is version 0.84.2000 so you need to flash it, then you have the engineering hboot installed

HBOOT Questions

I feel like I ask a lot of these, but for being such a small thing, HBOOT is pretty complex.
So my first question is, in HBOOT, what is the difference between PVT and EVT1? I currently have 2 WFS and both are Marvelc. The HBOOT of the older Marvelc says:
Code:
MARVELC EVT1 SHIP S-ON RL
The other HBOOT says:
Code:
MARVELC PVT SHIP S-ON RL
The HBOOT of the older one is 1.09.0000, the HTCDev HBOOT for unlocking. The HBOOT of the newer phone is 1.10.0001, the bootloader from the newest FOTA update.
Another question I have is can 1.10.0001 be S-OFF'd or am I out of luck with S-OFFing my phone now? I know I can use bltool and superversion and what-not, but I've never had much luck with that.
Hboot questions
Yes, you can S-off Hboot 1.10 but Hboot 1.09 is better in my opinion. When I started flashing Roms with Hboot 1.10 and I would go back to stock my wifi would always show error and no one has figured that out yet. Best way to go back to Hboot 1.09 is to run football's RUU for the Marvelc, once it is running go to the temp folder and copy the ROM.zip wherever you want it. Close everything and then open the ROM.zip and extract the recovery, boot, system to the folder where fastboot is. Make sure you have USB debugging before turning off your phone. Turn off your phone, pull the battery out once it's off and put it back in, hold vol down and power, then highlight fastboot and do the following:
(if you are already rooted make sure you wipe the dalvik-cache before flashing and after flashing a factory reset)
Open Cmd prompt and do the following:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system.img
You will still have S-off and bootloader will be unlocked as well.
Now flash your custom recovery. Hope that helped out.

I used the goldcard method to S-off my 1.10 and have been able to do everything ive wanted with it aslong as it is MarvelC. But i would use TeamWin for recovery i had problems not being able to wipe completely with ClockMod. Good Luck!
Hey where can I find football's ruu?

Hello.
I tried to root my friends phone using Strawmetals guide found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 (here: http://minus.com/mu9vZ3P38 )
But after trying to get perm. root it's stuck on the HTC logo.

also, it seems that adb can't find the phone, but fastboot works,
Any help here?
Thread moved to Q & A section.
thats normal as you just changed bootloaders, try going into recovery mode and flashing a new custom rom (take the pc10img.zip off sd card first you have one) boot to hboot, then choose recovery, well look through THIS
if you still cant access recovery to flash the rom use fastboot to flash it, or better yet flash recovery through fastboot:HERE IS A GUIDE ON THIS
dont worry im sure all is well!
happy flashing!
Awesome, it worked!

[Q] HBOOT download

Hi guys,
I'm on HBOOT 0.85 like many of you after AAHK.
Where can I find the latest HBOOT for DHD?
I'm looking for 2.00.029.
As it was a requirement for the Mokee open source ROM.
I was going to flash it in fastboot like so (found here):
fastboot erase cache //optional
fastboot oem rebootRUU //to enter in HTC black screen
fastboot flash zip [zipname.zip] // i.e "fastboot flash zip hboot214.zip"

Is this correct?
No links to hboot downloads?

Usually, updating the bootloader is not recommended unless you have a specific reason for wanting a newer version. And as far as I know, none of those reasons exist on this phone.
