Wife's Rogers S3 I747M recently updated to 4.3 and causing her all sorts of problems.
I'm now looking at installing a stable 4.1.2 custom ROM. I'm reading about how once your'e on 4.3 bootloader, there's no going back to 4.1.2. So does that mean I can only flash 4.3 ROMs from now on?
Any help is appreciated. (I can't find a straight answer searching).
Thanks.
That is the deal, no backtracking, what problems are you having on 4.3?

Stock 4.3 OTA update. Now there are major WIFI issues. Random disconnects and no connects. Also RAM gets filled up pretty outrageously fast for no apparent reason.
Okay this is what I did to fix mine, download the 4.3 rom from SamMobile, I would first do factory reset, sometimes that fixes things, if not flash with Odin 1.85 that's what fixed mine

Is there any way that I can revert back to ICS after updating to official 4.1.1? I'm really becoming annoyed by the lag on the S3 after the update and would like Ttp simply go back to official 4.0.1 or whatever build it was. Thanks!

the build is 4.0.4. you should use the odin packages for the most recent version of ics you can find in the no trip flash counter root.

I'm not rooted, not sure how to root anyways on 4.1.1. I did a factory reset anyways and it didn't seem to help.

This should do the trick http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540998. I have reverted from CM11 this way. And helped a couple others. The only catch is that you may run into an issue after the flash with the Wi-Fi toggle not working. This can be fixed by flashing this kernel: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23196940996968860. There is no bootloader attached to this ROM, so fret not about the bootloader issue.
As you are already on the MJB bootloader, this should work for you as well.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47816011&postcount=18. I myself have not used this ROM but loserskater is a major figure here and his work can be trusted.

Hi
I have a Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M, which is already rooted and running 4.1.2. I just tried installing new ROMs on it via TWRP. First I tried Omni Rom kit Kat, then CM11, then CM 10.2, as well as 10.1. Every time it didn't work. I loaded the ROM and the corresponding GAPPS via SD card, wiped data, system, dalvik, cache, then tried installing from ZIP. I don't know why none of them worked. I read Omni ROM may not, and may only work on the ATT S3, but CM10 not working? I softbricked the phone a few times in the process, but was smart enough to back it up, and am currently at square one. Can someone help please?
I want CM11, or better yet Kit Kat!
Thanks in advance
Edit: I have the latest version of TWRP, 2.6. something

I had problems installing Roms too until I flashed the latest CWM.
Also, I don't recommend updating your ROM to stock 4.3 unless you have to.
I tried with CWM and got a status 7 error

What version of CWM are you using? You should be on 6.0.4.5.
I am using CWM 6.0.4.5

What errors are you getting during installation? You have a i747m or i747? The d2att is the i747 (i.e. s3 on AT&T)
I am getting status 7. I have the Rogers I747M, but the d2att I heard works for the M model as well.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk
Does the phone need to be unlocked? Does it have to do with the bootloader?

Under About Phone, what device do you have? Is it d2att?
I have SGH-I747M. Baseband version 4.1.2

I was on stock 4.1.2 and flashed to a stock 4.1.1, unlocked the phone using a free method and went back to stock 4.1.2.
I'm not sure why you're having problems. I flashed a stock 4.1.2 ROM from here for my Bell s3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
I then loaded Philz Touch Recovery and was able to flash Cyanfox, CM11, and Validus13 which are all based on 4.4.2.
I would avoid 4.3 bootloaders.
So it may be because the phone is locked? That seems to be the only difference between yours and mine. That and Philz touch recovery, but does the recovery program matter? I tried these ROMS with TWRP and CWM. Both latest versions

You mean carrier locked? That shouldn't make a difference.
Since you're on stock 4.1.2 and have never been on stock 4.3, you could also flash the 4.1.1 stock rom, carrier unlock your phone, flash Philz, and then try to flash a rom.

You mean unlocked from the carrier? If you're saying being carrier locked is not relevant to flashing a new ROM, then the only difference is that you used Philz recovery. Man, I just want some KitKat already on my phone. The bootloader wouldn't have anything to do with this?

If you're on stock 4.1.2, you should be fine. I had problems flashing with TWRP so I went with the latest release of Philz. I was able to flash 3 different KK ROMs.
Okay. I'm going to try Philz. Is there a good KK ROM you recommend? Also where can I find the Gapps for KK? I got it somewhere before, but I can't find it on goo

Get the tar or zip version from here. Tar can be flashed in Odin under PDA and the zip can be flashed from another custom recovery: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2att
More details and and installation instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
I like Cyanfox myself. You can download it from here: http://cyanfox-rom.com/downloads/?folder=d2att/
Gapps are here: http://cyanfox-rom.com/downloads/?folder=_gapps/
I have a Samsung galaxy note 2 i had liquid smooth on it then i flashed stock 4.1.1 firmware with Odin everything went well im on 4.1.1 then when i go to software update and attempt to install the update everything goes well then it restarts and goes to the At&t upgrade thing and it finishes. Then it reboots and it stays at the Samsung note 2 Screen. I don't know what to do.
This guide should help, particularly post #2..

The ota from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 mh3 is a bit quirky at times.
If you have not been on 4.3 yet you should read up and decide whether you really want to take the 4.3 ota. Once you have the 4.3 mk6 bootloader there's no going back. There are custom and stock options available here that avoid the need for that bootloader.

I have a note 2 I am running 4.4.2 Probam and love it. I just bought another note 2 for my wife and its 4.1.2. I plan on rooting but probably no custom ROMs. Just debloating on my own. Should I update to 4.3 or stay at where I am?
I have never updated my bootloader and use 4.3 touchwiz ROMs fine with devil kernel. What's my best move from some expertise experience. Not a nooby but not a developer. Thanks

It honestly depends on ur plans for that phone. If u never plan on rooting it I would definitely update to 4.3 using the ota. But that's just a personal opinion. If ur planning on rooting I wouldn't update to 4.3 using the ATT ota. If u update to ota 4.3 anytime u use odin it will trip the Knox counter. And then chance for a warranty replacement if u need it is slim to none. If ur planning on rooting there a a few really solid TW 4.3 roms out there with no worries about Knox.

4.1.2 is solid. Since it's your wife's phone, personal experience allows me to say leave it be. Lord help me if Candy Crush doesn't work.....
But you have an option.
A time saver to get to 4.3 and rooted on your current bootloader would be this.,,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891
AT&T UCUBMK6 i317 *Odexed* Stock ODIN Note 2
It's already rooted, all you have to do is debloat with Titanium BU or whatever.
From the thread -----> If you *are not* running Official 4.3 (MK6) or newer bootloader: After flashing one of the firmware packages above (the Stock ODIN) flash the bootloader package below in Odin to get wifi working (sorry, no option available for CWM/TWRP). I've included the Odin executable just after if needed.
Bootloader needs to be flashed only once. See post #2 for information on how to check what version of bootloader you have installed.
This is what you will flash:
AT&T i317 ODIN 4.3 UCUBMJ4 (Leak) Bootloader & TZ (AT&T Note 2 ONLY)
This bootloader will not trip Knox.
Thanks. Not worried about warranties. I rooted it at 4.1.2. I'd I update OTA to 4.3 am I still able to put a custom recovery on it? Kinda confused if the 4.3 update locks the bootloader and lastly wasn't the at&t s4 bootloader able to be unlocked when it first came out? Soon after a OTA broke the root. If so then why wouldn't a brand new one out of box be able to have bootloader unlocked just as the phones come with the same firmware version and not updated until bought. Just wondering.

Check this here, it should answer your questions.
I am not too sure about the S4.
I recently got a refurbished Note 2 that came with the 4.3 firmware (my original note 2 broke), MK6 booloader. According to this link, If your phone is running the MK6 bootloader, It is not possible AS OF NOW to revert to the previous bootloader MJ4. You can put CWM recovery and custom roms on your 4.3 build but I don't think they are too stable as of now. I have not tried it yet.
I have at&t note 2 and never updated to 4.3 like I said before but when I flashed a 4.3 tw ROM WiFi wouldnt work like you said. Instead of doing the Odin bootloader thing I just flashed the devel kernel and everything went good. WiFi works flawless. Devil kernel works on toichwiz and aosp. My question is would it be better to do that and leave the bootloader alone?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
The note 2 I got last Friday is 4.1.2. The only reason I didn't get the note 3 is this whole bootloader crap. T-Mobile is really starting to look good from here
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
To not confuse. I have had my note 2. Just got my wife the other one. I don't think I am going to update it at all. Just to make sure I rooted hers with framaroot and stopped any ota 4.3 from slipping by.

And the answer is yes you can.
