Sorry if this has been asked before.....
How can I disable the automatic text message I get from some Android number whenever I get a voice mail?
Let me guess..you loaded your first AOSP rom?
There must be something in the HTC message app that gets rid of them or something.
You could always switch to youmail.com its a million times better and has a wonderful free app in the market.
My voicemail (stock Sense) started doing this randomly a while back. Turns out my voicemail number had reset to whatever it was before I ported my old number over. This made my voicemail default to the text thing. Maybe this is different than what you're experiencing. Either way, check to see that your voicemail number is correct. Maybe a longshot, but it couldn't hurt. It's in settings somewhere.

Anyone been able to get this issue solved.
bump
Yeah, recently installed Cyanogen's CM6. Been getting these annoying text messages. Would love to disable. So... bump.
Simple fix that MIGHT work (I haven't tried it yet) is to blacklist the number in Handcent SMS but I'm not sure if Messaging in Froyo has that feature to blacklist text messages..

I can confirm this method works with ChompSMS and I still receive visual voicemails in the Sprint app with no problems.
Soo i am running the latest cm6 nightly with snap 7.11 and i like to use sprint vvm, well actually i would prefer to use google voice but it wont work on sprint. everything was working okay, until i actually got a voicemail. now the the cm6 sms voicemail thing (the 9016 # the texts you when you have a new message) wont stop sending me message every 5 minutes saying some random series of #'s and letters or sometimes websites or pretty much anything has sent me a new voicemail... it is really annoying. i even tried uninstalling vvm (which seemed to be working fine) and it did not help.
So my question is: How do i fix this or disable the sms vm program that runs in CM6?
So, I did the GPS fix on June 21st with the ##code# and the msl code. After that, my parents said they sent a text, but I haven't gotten it. Most people use my google voice number, but a few have the old sprint number.
Anyway, I can send a text. I just don't receive a text message. I booted in a march cm6 backup and couldn't get text messsages that way either. Could send, just not receive. I can make and receive calls, and voicemails go to my google voice number.
I have a stock sense backup from december that I can boot into, but am getting tired of rebooting.
Any suggestions. Open for just about anything.
I decided to do a 786 reset, and it cannot update my profile. I am hoping that is because i have a triangle above my wireless signal. Kinda out in bfe as of right now.
My messages will randomly go to google voice instead of messages. That could be a problem as well.

I had this problem yesterday after a fresh flash of CM7.1, and stumbled upon the answer. I wasn't receiving text messages in Messaging OR Handcent SMS - and I have my sprint number ported over to Google Voice. I went over to the Voice app and went to Settings>Sync and Notifications and made sure that Text Message Notification was selected. When I did, the SMS messages going to GV went to my messaging apps too.
Conversely, you could just use GV as your messaging app...

This works like a charm. I am going to post this link in a couple of other places where people are running down CM. Double Thanks!
I was looking for this and noticed many CM users looking for this as well, I tried on ICS AND CM10... it works.
Found zip (attached), flashed and it too works.

What's the version number on yours? I've got this version installed on CM9 and CM10 and it works beautifully.

I've used this apk on aopk, cm10 v5.0 & v5.1
And it works. Just install as you do any regular apk. Personal, I used rom toolbox, located the file and installed fined.
Yes, I do get 9016 text, but I barely get vms, so maybe 1 text per day doesn't bother me. It may be a CM think, but if I find a better apk, I'll update OP.

Yeah, I get the texts, too. I don't think there's a way to get rid of them if you want to use Sprint VVM.
I don't mind them. They can actually come in handy sometimes if you restore the VVM to a new ROM and it doesn't notify you of new voicemails right off the bat. The text still shows up when the notification doesn't. lol
Fixing the sprint visual voicmail apk to with with CM10
you need to record a voicemail, and then forward it to the following email address from within sprint visual voicemail: [email protected]
This will stop the text messages and sync your voice mail.
do you still receive the 9016 text everytime you get a voicemail?

Edited
Didn't read the previous posts very well. When I was using the Optimus S with CM7 they had a Mms.apk that removed the 9016 text. Those can be really annoying. I like VVM better but right now I have to stick with google voice. I'm only using it for my voicemail and I don't get any texts so it works.

Exactly how do you forward the recorded voicemail? I tried sending it with Gmail and got:
Code:
Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:
[email protected]
Technical details of permanent failure:
DNS Error: Domain name not found

Record it with the VVM app and then hit send. Compose -> Record -> Send to that address, all done within the app.

All I have is the microphone button in VVM. I record the message, then I only have the Share button with Bluetooth, Gmail, Skype, Voicemail, etc. I tried Gmail before with the above error message. When I try Voicemail with the email address you gave, the Send button stays grayed out. I suspect that it needs a phone number there.

hmm that's weird. I don't have VVM right now but that's how I reprovisioned it before.
Here's a solution THAT ACTUALLY WORKS because I just fixed it!

I recently switched from a TW based ROM to CM10 (and now PA2). I reinstalled the latest version of Sprint's VVM app which worked fine except for the annoying text message notifications from 9016. I searched all over the Internet for a solution. I read quite a few, "oh here's all you need to do ...worked for me...problem solved!" posts which frankly need to be deleted so others don't stumble across them and waste their time. Here's what I know to be true from my own research and testing using MY SAMSUNG EPIC 4G TOUCH aka Samsung Galaxy S2:
Texting "Block 9016" to 9999 - with or without the quotes - doesn't suppress text messages from 9016. You *will* get a lovely text from Sprint confirming that messages to and from 9016 are now blocked, but they won't be...because they're not supposed to be.
Recording a voicemail message - whether it's 5 seconds or 25 seconds - and sending it to "[email protected]" doesn't suppress text messages from 9016 - something you would have quickly discovered had you finally figured out that instead of sharing via Gmail/Email after you hit the share icon - which as Jim knows only resulted in a message not delivered notice - you instead needed to click Share Message and then in the To: field type [email protected], and then hit the return key on the keypad and then the send button. Had you been successful, you would have received yet another lovely text message from Sprint confirming that your voicemail service has been reprovisioned. As it turns out, reprovisioning your service doesn't suppress texts from 9016...because they're not supposed to be suppressed.
It occurred to me that Sprint needs to send a text from 9016 to alert the VMM app to download new messages from the VMM server. I don't need to see it on the MMS app because the VMM app sends a notification to the status bar. My hunch is that something in either the TW based ROM or the TW stock MMS app was coded to suppress texts from 9016. That "something" is apparently missing on the CM10 and/or stock MMS apps.
The good news is that "something" is not missing in the Handcent SMS app available for free on Play Store. I downloaded and installed Handcent and then disabled the stock MMS app. I didn't even have to add 9016 as a blacklist number. The Handcent developers baked the suppression fix into their code sometime in 2011 according to the release notes on their website.
Try Handcent and say goodbye to annoying texts from 9016 and say hello to pretty colors and cool features (neither of which you probably care about but it's free and I'm happy).
In ChompSMS just blacklist the number and its gone

Beginning with Handcent 3.9.8 - which was released over a year ago - the Sprint VVM 9016 fix is baked into the app itself, so there is no need to create a blacklist entry. Just download and install Handcent SMS, disable the stock Messaging app and it's gone!

Works great me for thank you
Sent using Xda App
For those of us who like the stock messaging app, and dislike clunky third party programs, or just like aosp, this doesn't help
I try to avoid solutions that say "Have a small problem with this otherwise perfect app? Use a completely different app!"
Nice! Thanks man! I just switched to an MIUI JB rom and it I really wanted my VVM back. It works on there fine btw.
Installed on CM 10 10-24-12 nightly build JB 4.1.2 Samsung epic 4g. Sweeeeeet! Thanks for this!

I can confirm that this works on CM10. I just installed the stable CM10 and then this APK, works without issue.
I am not 100% sure if it's a configuration issue or a ROM issue. I don't get that many voicemails so I don't know exactly when the problem started (I install about every other nightly - currently running 8/1).
Problem - when someone leaves me a VM, instead of getting the icon alert on the top I get an sms. When I delete the VM or listen to it, I get another SMS. The SMS for new VM looks like this
//VZWVVM.SYNC:ev=NM;id=7;c=1;t=v;s=<phone number of the caller here>;dt=03/08/2015 10:30 -0700;l=9;dev_t=5
The sms for the deleted or listened message looks like this
//VZWVVM.SYNC:ev=MBU;dev_t=5
Any thoughts or ideas as to what could be the cause of this and how to fix it??? It is somewhat annoying.

I too had this issue when running any ROM other than stock ROMs; I came across your post searching for a solution. When I was running CM12.1, I started using a 3rd party for voicemail. There is an app in the Play Store that will redirect your voicemail forwarding number. It was okay and I ended up switching back to stock for the camera.
I'm interested in going back to non-stock, so if anyone has a fix, that'd be great.
