Hi all! I installed Tr4nsend_Maguru last nite! great rom- I am on baseband I9250UGLC1. Android version 4.1. Kernel 3.0.31-g721a082-dirty
I just got an official System update available OTA notification. It's asking me to install and reboot!!!!
I thought custom roms could not get this?????
You'll get the notification but you need to be stock for it to install properly

Whewwww!! Thanks. Got a little nervous there. Can I just clear the notification so it does not install by accident? I am just making a BU of the Tr4nsend now.

I dont use roms personally, but I believe that you can. Rom devs usually take away the option of being able to check for updates and the rom being able to get update notifications.
So I wouldnt worry about it and in future updates of the rom you wont see it.
My Galaxy nexus stock yajku updated to 4.2 last week, I used it for a couple days and absolutely hated it. I flashed back to 4.1.2 because I couldn't stand how slow 4.2 was. but did keep the 4.2 keyboard
All was well in my 4.1.2 world until today when i see the notification 4.2 is ready to update OTA, already been downloaded and verified just waiting for a restart..
How do i kill this off? As soon as I do any sort of restart its going to push 4.2 back onto my gnex, is there a way to stop this?
Or am I too late, now that its already downloaded and verified and awaiting a restart, was I supposed to do something before hand to stop the update trigger? Am I stuck with it auto-updating, then having to manually reflash 4.1.2 AGAIN?
What are my options?

cant you just decline it?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767125
I'm wondering if the old FOTA kill app that was embedded in old CM roms would help. Granted I have no clue if it would even install or the best way to get it but I'm throwing ideas here.

Unfortunately there was no option to decline.
Its not like there was a message saying "an update was available, would you like to download".
Just a message saying the update was available has been downloaded and verified and will install once the device is rebooted
i just copied the fotakill.apk into system folder, but still got the naggy alert to update to 4.2!
EDIT:
ok I set right permissions (rw-r--r--), deleted cache, and the notification is gone!
ok guys, i have a question for you. keep in mind that im new to the phone world lol. ok so a bout a month ago i wanted to unroot my phone but for some reason the tar files on sammobile wasnt working right. so i came on here and downloaded what i believed to be the file that i needed to go back to stock. after i used odin and the phone rebooted it automatically notified me that i had a update. after i accepted the update and it rebooted, it again notified me that i have yet another update. so after this happened i noticed that my phone was updated to 4.4.4 kitkat which would be great exept for the fact that it keeps freezing and when i am on wifi i have a problem getting phone calls aswell as text messages. also when i disconnect from wifi i have to restart the phone to get any data back. is there anything that i can do? is it possible to go back to 4.3 or even 4.2.2? any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello! Did you make a back up of your phone before you started the update? That would be the easiest way to go back to how it was. If you used Odin and didn't install a recovery like TWRP or Clockwork you may not have done so. I believe you can reload from Odin with an older ROM it will just erase everything you did. There are stock ROMS here at XDA and galaxynote3root.com as well. Let me know it this helps, sorry for your troubles.

I'm actually surprised that you did get an update to 4.4.4... You could try going back to NF9. The safest route I see that you can take is to install a custom recovery and make a backup before doing this. If you odin NF9 and it doesn't boot then you're kinda screwed because we technically don't have the 4.4.4 update yet, so if anything goes wrong, you can install a recovery again and restore the 4.4.4 backup.

You can get the latest TWRP recovery here : http://www.techerrata.com/file/twrp2/hltetmo/openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.0-hltetmo-4.4.img.tar
Just odin that and after it's done, go into recovery by doing Vol down + Home and do a backup either in your internal or external storage. After that finishes, you can go back in download mode and odin NF9.
ok thanks for all you help man,

just got a small ota today... what was it?
Stock note 2, (no longer rooted/aosp'd). It is up to date with 4.4.2. Now... last night I did a full factory reset, but I do those anyway every other month or so, just to keep things tight and fresh.
I can't tell a thing that this ota did.

I got it too, though I haven't applied it. I'm rooted and running a custom kernel and Clockworkmod recovery, so I was surprised to see the update come through. Now I guess I'll have to look at that stupid icon until my Nexus 6 arrives, as I don't dare apply it and risk losing root.
DO NOT apply this update until someone who knows what they're doing tells us what it is. It's 93mb, and after I applied it on 4.4.2 rooted, I couldn't get past the Galaxy Note II screen. It would freeze at a black screen after that. I had to apply the 4.4.2 firmware again to get the phone to boot. After it booted and i was completely unrooted, I tried the OTA update again, same result, it wouldn't boot past the Galaxy Note II logo screen, just went black and froze, so again I flashed 4.4.2 and rooted the phone.
Not sure why it wouldn't flash when I was unrooted but maybe it has something to do with KNOX being disabled on my phone from SuperSU.
---------- Post added at 04:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:20 PM ----------
Forgot to say after that I completely disabled the ability for the phone to update. It actually did it without my permission which pissed me off.
Weird. I unrooted back when kitkat came out so I could have working tap and pay for Google wallet. When I applied yesterday's update it worked perfectly. Whatever it is, it's invisible to a stock phone.
Btw, I too am waiting for the the nexus 6 I preordered last night.

Tap and pay works with root. Weird that an Ota came out for this device now.
Sent from my SM-N910T using XDA Free mobile app
Just got this update as well. I am a unrooted phone(never rooted this phone yet) not sure what the ota did though. maybe security update or something back end with att
Ugh. Tapped too quickly and applied the OTA on my rooted phone. Phone won't get past the boot logo. Shuts off. Dammit!
Any options other than wiping and starting over?
Sorry should have been more clear. Tap and pay does not work with aosp roms, which you need root to flash.

A small update from att suddenly
Hello Devs,
I am a Galaxy Note 2 user (ATT SGH i317) and i have recently rooted my cellphone and i was wondering what i should do to install OTA updates. I got an OTA update and while trying to install it my teamwin recovery boots up when the phone is being restarted. So how do i install the new updates. Please help.
what did you do to return to stock?
GN3 rom
I went to downloadandroidrom.com website to download the stock recovery but they have all stock recovery except ATT. so i am still looking for a website to download stock recovery for att and once you have it flash it using twrp and whie restarting just press volume up + home + power key and when the phone starts release powerkey while still holding the other two keys . this should completely get rid of twrp and install stock. but of you have a link to get the stock recovery for att please do post. i would appretiate it.

nvm, I reread the instructions and realized that I was warned that this would happen.... after advancing the date 1 day as suggested everything worked flawlessly.
I have posted a fix for those of you who got bricked by this update: see http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...t2939649/page2. I give detailed instructions on how to fix it.
Please spread the word.

Definitely looks like 5.1.1 possibility!
I'm still on 4.4.4, this update is a hard decision because there is no downgrade...
But update your post an confirm it 5.1.1 after? Also would b nice to know the build number

Oh well, I guess I should simply be happy we're finally getting the 5.1.1 update. Really wish it included the theme store though (especially since we can't root)...
Thanks for the quick reply omair :good:
Does I need to be on the US and use an ATT simcard to update? I've recently bought an att note4 and it's on transit to my country.
No firmware?
After the update my device still says update available, however, it says 5.1.1 under device info. When I press continue update, it flashes "no firmware" and the icon at the top of the notification bar shows the arrows in opposite directions as if its trying to update, but nothing is happening. Any ideas as to why this occurs? Im using att straight talk and never had any issues with updates prior. Thanks in advance.
update try #3 failed as well......oh well i will be nuking the phone and trying it again.
Just finished the 5.1.1 update - no issues & phone's responsiveness is great now.
For once, add me to the list of people whose update went off without a hitch & promised enhancements actually are there.
There was a bit of sluggishness after the first reboot after install, but I'm thinking that was due to some kind of initial indexing going on in the background.
Aside from that, all apps, including Android Pay are working as before and no lag in the Recent Apps button. Text scrolling is noticibly smoother, especially when scrolling, for example, the list of installed apps in App Manager.

Mine failed too at 1%, on reboot it said the update was interrupted. Same thing happened in the initial update to Lollipop. Going to go out on a limb and guess this is related to my phone being encrypted. Wiping the phone was the only way I could get that update to take. (The little interim ones did work for me). Sure makes me wise I could backup my phone with Titanium Backup like I used to.
