Hi xda,
i have recently bought these 2x 3600mah batteries from ebay. I cannot post the link but they are from an ebay store called bravo-ex. Its one of those white batteries with red and yellow stripes. The batteries brand says RD, but i think its a generic china brand or something.
Anyways,
I was able to use the batteries a first couple of times. I managed to charge both up only up to around 65%.
Now i have this problem where the charging indicator is not showing properly when i plug my phone in. There is no battery indicator lightning sign or moving. It stays stagnant at 5%. Tried charging for hours and nothing changes.
When i try to charge with phone turned off the phone will boot back up to home screen, instead of showing the big charging battery icon.
When i plug in the usb cable. Battery section in settings shows status as Not Charging but the led light still comes on red so i know there is charging going on but the battery meter doesnt move!
I have tried the following:
- edit build.prop battery capacity to 3600
- deleted the batterystats (couldnt delete at 100% because i cannot charge beyond 65%
- reflash to stock rom 2.3.4 and kernel (it did work for a while but went back again after a couple of plugging and unplugging)
- switching back to stock battery to check if usb port is faulty. The charging still works!
- changing around between 3 pairs of cables and chargers
My system is
-R800i
- Rom: Elite Gamer v2.0 GB
- Kernel: Lupus v12 for GB
- I had my digitizer and flex cable replaced at a third party service center about 2 weeks ago.
Please help me i am getting desperate. It may be the batteries are DOA but both batteries being dead seems a little unlikely. I really love this little piece of gaming heaven. I would really appreciate if someone can give me any expert advice. Thank you!

i have discovered a weird and non permanent fix.
i have to swap the old battery and the extended batteries back and forth several times until the battery meter decides to show up on the extended one.
But it only works after like 10+ swaps and after few minutes of charging it goes off after like 10mins!

I agree that you have wierd problem.
I would blame the charger, but you already test another one...
If i where you, i would measure voltage on battery after it stop charging with voltmeter. 0% should be 3.2V and 100% charged should be 4.2V. On both, stock and extended battery.
Also, measuring voltage at pins that connect the battety to see the voltage value (with battery removed and usb charger plugged in)
Or maybe contacts on usb jack on phone is dirty and can be cleaned with alcohol and cloath (with phone off and battery removed)
This is just wild guesses, i really can't say what is causing it

The next day was a miracle! Battery stayed at 100% for 2 hours, by the end of the day I still had 60% battery left!
I read that the first couple charges need to be cycled so i tried to drain the battery by playing a movie over and over with screen brightness and volume at max.....
the battery lasted forever, after getting it down to 7% I charged it overnight- sameway with phone off, but now nomater what i do it only lasts the length of a stock battery.
I tried unplugging,plugging back in, phone off , phone on, waiting hours after it says 100%(on charger overnight) and tried ac and usb charging, but it just isnt seeming to charge all the way.
I was going to buy a second extended battery and an external battery charger but all the external chargers i see on ebay say are only good for li-ion batteries up to 2000mah, plus i had to modify my otterbox defender case to support my new battery and it would be a pain to have to take case apart everytime i swap batteries.
Ive been reading for days about what to do to no avail, all the external chargers i see arent rated for 3500mah capacity and I wouldnt mind flashing a custom rom that would support extended battery charging but the more research i do the more confused i get.....
Is there a kernal out there that is stable and supports charging these batteries with no bugs or issues????
What custom rom would be best?

there is no such thing as a rom that supports extended batteries
the phone does
the chargers ALL work for the extended batteries there is no capacity rating limit on them. they do have a charging rate but it is around 350 to 800 mA/H and the batteries are acutally around 2500 mA so devide 2500/500 is 5 hours to charge.

i get upto 60 hours out of my battery. - under volted properly and custom kernel options..
you may want to wipe your battery stats. but i switch back and fourth no problem.
or your battery has a bad cell. those extendeds are just 2 batteries linked together.

there as an app in the market to wipe battery stats I forgot what its name it might be helpful to you since you're on stock froyo. probably your phone battery stats was in line with your oem battery so to maximized your extended batt you will have to wiped out the current battery stats for your phone to adjust to your new extended battery. I will post the app name later if I could find it. since you are rooted it will be of use to you.
edit: ok I found the app it's called battery calibration by nema download it from the market give it a whirl and observe how it goes..
i remember reading about such an app for rooted phones on a different forum but someone replied saying that it would wipe battery stats but still wouldnt help since the phones stock software is written to only charge a battery to 1500mah then it stops charging.....
Do u think it would work or am i screwed unless i flash a new kernal?

no.. to charge at 100% speed. and i havent heard of any kernel for that in the captivate forums...
ie using the official samsung charger (usb) will charge at full speed the one that comes with your phone is 750 ma/h. if you plug into a non official charger the phone will only let in about 350ma/hour through the usb. or hack it.
i have the usb that came with the phone.... so i will get 750ma per hour if i connect usb to computer only or it will charge that fast on the samsung wall adapter also?

the phone has to see the official CHARGER to charge full speed. or hack the other CHARGER, other wise it charges at what it calls "usb" so charging using usb would be slower too. if you read the [mod] link above, or all the other times i said CHARGER above, you would understand,

unless the middle 2 pins of a USB cable or the charger itself has the 2 pins shorted the phone charges in USB mode 350ish mA/h with the OEM chargers or a modded charger it charges in "AC mode" upto 1100 ish mA/h

I currently have the CM10.1-M3 build from 4/17/13 installed.
For a long while, I have been having major issues charging my Captivate Glide.
My original battery died. It was bloated. I called AT+T and they sent me a replacement. I also bought two high capacity batteries.
If I leave the phone charging about half the time little or no progress is made charging. Lat night I charged the phone for over 8 hours and the charge went from 10% to 14%.
Other times I will wake up after charging it all night and it will say fully charged, but then the instant it is unplugged from the charger, it will drop down from 100% to 20% or less.
Then once every 3 or 4 days it will actually fully charge. But even in that case the charging is slow at best.
I did a full wipe and re-flashed last night and nothing changed. I have tried charging in airplane mode, but that seems to make it worse. I have had a little tiny bit of success turning mobile data off, but otherwise I have tried everything I could think of with no luck.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues, or have any suggestions? Is this a case where I might need to replace the phone entirely?

I did notice a lot longer charge time when hooked up to USB on computer, on my car charger and hooked up to AC I seem to get a lot quicker charge...
What charger are you using?

I have tried a few different chargers. I mostly use a 2.1amp wall charger. I also have a 1 amp wall charger, and a 1 amp car charger. I have tried about 3 different car chargers.
I am really suspicious that the micro-usb port on the phone went bad and that I will need to get the phone replaced.
Charging with AC is gonna be alot faster then with DC. But as far as it being the rom I don't see tthat.. sounds like possibly a loose wire or bad connection when u lay ur phone down

When I charge my Captivate Glide with phone powered up plugged in to the wall, using the supplied wall charger, I've noticed that the battery seems to drain quicker. This is with the original battery, I will be getting an extended battery for my phone. If I power the phone down then charge it in to the wall it charges quickly and seems to take longer draining. This does not happen when charging with the PC.

Bloated battery could just be bad - but it could also be due to overcharging. That's not going to happen unless there is a serious problem with your phone, or possibly a problem with the contacts leading to an incorrect voltage reading. This also may explain your problems charging and sudden jumps in charge %.
Clean your contacts well on the battery side and phone side with a pencil eraser, rubbing alcohol, etc.
I notice a big difference with whatever kernel is shipping with the current M3 cm10.1 build between a 500ma charger and 2amp charger, so I imagine the kernel is set for a 750ma or 1amp charge.
I have a battery / charging problem on my Gnex. The problem is that the battery won’t charge more then 60 %, drains quick and then the phone shuts down at 0 % ( in about 2-3hrs of use) and wont restart until recharged.
At first, I tought it was the battery so I bought one OEM on ebay. It did the same thing so I returned it and went to Telus store to buy an OEM.
Same thing happened with the new OEM. I then bought an external wall battery charger and charged the 2 batteries I have. When I put the first one back in the phone it said 12%?
I tried the second one which is the new OEM and same thing, its showing 12%.
I did a little test, I had 4.2.2 so I unlocked the phone and rooted (no more warranty anyway) I flashed back the ROM to ICS. No change.
So what I did next is I used the phone until it shut down at 0% and restarted it on the bootloader screen and left it on, on the bootlooader screen.
Well the phone screen stayed on for more then 3 hours, so I know the battery is good because there is no way that a 0% battery could power the screen for 3 hours.
So after it shut down from the bootloader screen, I charged it again, in the phone, and it went right back to 60%, I did try to wipe batt stats from recovery mode and battery calibration apps but no luck.
Is there a way to disable the auto shut down on the phone? The battery meter if definitely showing wrong charge stats. Is the battery controller part of the USB board or the motherboard?
The only thing I did not try yet is a custom ROM and Kernel.
Any ideas?
Sounds like a hardware failure... It's obviously not the batteries

I found where the Power Management with Switch Mode Charger chip is, on the motherboard! I wonder if there is some ways to access and modify the values of this.

For what it's worth, the same thing is happening to me. Charges to 64%, and it acts like it's only got a 64% charge - runs out fast. And I also tried a replacement OEM battery with no difference. I'm not completely convinced this is a hardware problem - though I guess it could be. I'm still stock Gnex (with the 4.3 upgrade - and come to think of it, this started some time after that upgrade). I was hoping it was some kind of kernel problem that i could fix by switching to CM. Anybody have any luck with that?
The same thing is happening to my phone, although I'm lucky enough to have it charge to 73%. Only realized the problem when I bought a new OEM battery and it stopped charging at the same 73%. I have a friend who has the exact same phone and will give her both my batteries to charge and see the results (with her phone then once batteries are reinstalled in my phone).
Outside of replacing the motherboard, would anyone know if there could possibly be a software fix? Has this happened to any other phone? If so does anyone know the results?

Sounds like a hardware failure in the phones' charging circuit. Since:
- no software change (ROM or Kernel) fixes it
- no battery change fixes it
Then it's obviously the charging circuit in the phone. Time to get a new phone!
Well I've confirmed for myself that it is my phone charging circuit that's giving me bad info on my battery charge. I installed both my batteries in a friends Gnex and both gave me 100% charge reading on my friends phone. I then re-installed both batteries in my phone and both came back with identical 13% charge reading. So to me this is obviously not a battery issue.
Since my previous post in July my phone has gotten progressively worst. So I have now come to the point where I either have to replace the phone's charging circuit or replace the phone all together. I would much rather do the first as any replacement phone via my carrier would require me to pay more monthly on my contract.
So would anyone know with certainty where the charging circuit is located in the Gnex? Is it on the main logic board or the USB charging board?

It was accidentally dropped in water,I turned off it immediately and removed the water as much as possible then I kept it in rice for 2 days.It is charging very slowly and it only turns on after plugging it to the charging socket.It takes 11-12 hours to charge to 60% and drains out in 3-4 minutes only. Please help me fix it.

Looks like something is draining your battery or your battery is broken. Open the phone and look for damaged components...

Thanks for the suggestion,Can the battery change will do the work ? I have taken it to the Service Center they said that they will have to look it if it's charging socket problem,and if it is then being its socket mounted on motherboard directly they will have to change the motherboard of phone and it will cost me a fortune to do that.

I don't think the problem is the battery, it's more likely some short circuit with the charging port, yes.
There are some replacement part stores for hov, I just found a charging connector: http://www.parts4repair.com/htc-one-v-dock-port-charging-connector/
When you look at the pics of the connector it seems to be soldered onto the mainboard, but it shouldn't be that difficult...
But,the phone charges with the original connector,I think it's battery problem,Is there any alternate way to keep it charged? I'm gonna check it but I am unable to open one phillip screw as it's threads are damaged.How am I going to open the damaged screw?Please anyone help...

I opened the screw and phone now the battery looks fine ,Is there any way to check the battery like with voltmeter?

If you already opened your phone, use hair dryer and lightly dry up your phone. Do the process for 3-4 times for about 2 minutes each.
You can check your battery with a multimeter, just follow below steps:
1.Switch off your cell phone and carefully remove the battery.
2.Now search on the label of the battery for its given voltage. Most batteries of cell phones are 3.7V
3.Place the battery such that its terminals face you.
4.Now keep the multimeter (either analog or digital) on DC Volt setting.It may be indicated with either DCV or just V and a straight line with 3 dots below it. In DCV (DC Voltage) also, there will be many settings like 2mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, 1000V. Keep the setting on the number above the actual voltage of the battery. It will be either 10V or 20V in most multimeters. An indication of ACV or just V followed by a curved line means AC voltage. Do not use this setting as batteries run on DC voltage.
5.Now touch the tip of the red probe of the multimeter on the terminal of the battery named ‘+’(positive) and touch the tip of the black probe on the terminal named ‘-‘(negative).
6.Keep both the probes touched until you see a stable reading on the screen of the meter. If the reading on the screen is more than 3.70 for a battery of 3.7V, then the battery is fully charged. And if it is less, then you will have to charge it with a charger. It should show a reading above the charge of the battery. If the battery is drained and showing 0 voltage or say less than 3.7, you will have to charge. If after charging for a long time, still it is showing the same charge, then the battery is faulty. You will need to buy a new one as batteries are not repairable. If the reading of the battery is below 3.7V even after charging it, your mobile phone will not switch on.

Thanks for the details buddy,actually when the phone is switched OFF and plugged to charger it charges and the LED indicator glows to green means fully charged and as soon as the phone is switched ON with the charger connected to it it charges again & again .Meanwhile the phone switches ON only when charger plugged on to the socket,It doesn't wake up on Normal battery condition.I am really frustrated with Non-removable battery type of this mobile.
Well,Thanks everyone for replying.The problem is solved after changing the battery.Big relief cause service center told me it will cost too much in changing the battery or changing the motherboard and I repaired it with very low cost watching youtube videos and a big help with XDA forum.
Hi guys my xplay r800i keeps shutting down, it's still the original battery since I got the phone a few years ago so I'm guessing it's a battery issue.
However the stock battery doesn't keep my phone active for long anymore. Every time I use the phone it randomly shuts down within a few minutes sometimes within a few seconds from unlocking the home screen.
For the time being it stays powered on when it's hooked on the charger, but only In a locked stand by state.
I got a new battery but it's a X10Xperia 2430mah 3.7v, got it off eBay.. however it doesn't work or give any power on my phone.
As soon as I put the battery in, I tried to charge it, but nothing happened just a red blinking light, the phone does not turn on, nothing happens, even when I plug in the charger the charging screen does not come up and the phone just blinks red 1x every few seconds.
Is there something I have to do before this battery works or is it supposed to be a plug and play?
Do I have to root the phone so I can use this battery?
I'm a complete noob, but a quick learner, I have never rooted or modified my phone so if anyone has any answers could you please keep it simple for me...

Maybe your new battery is empty. If you have multimeter check voltage. Empty battery level is at 3.2V and full is at 4.2V
If it's less then 3.2V then phone will not turn on (and will blink red if you try to power it on).
What you can do is to leave it charging and in few hours it should be enough charged to power on phone.

I bought a couple of these a few months ago (Same V/mAH rating, labeled as being for an Xperia X10) and believe I was basically ripped off.
The first one I started using seemed like it burned down faster than it should have, so I tested the two "2340mAH" gold batteries against a never used SE BST-41 I have in a drawer and the one I've been using for around 10 months (With lots of charge cycles under its belt).
I overclocked my R800x's CPU to 1.6GHz and played several CPS-2 games under MAME4Droid Reloaded (Basically pegging the CPU 100%). On the stock battery I currently use in my phone this allows me around 5 hours of continuous playtime with my various kernel/OS/hardware tweaks. The new BST-41 got about 20 minutes more than this. The first gold battery ran for about 3.5 hours and the second a miserable 2.5 hours.
I recharged all of them (Once they stated they were at 100% I'd let them sit for at least an hour or two more on charge) and repeated the tests two more times, and the results drifted between +/- 10-15m relative to the first round of testing for each battery.
I have a strong suspicion these are old batteries that have simply had a gold foil sticker affixed to them making them sound better than they actually are. If that's actually the case, you may have in fact bought a dead battery which would explain why it's not working.
I remember a few years ago there were a lot of similar gold foil batteries going around for the iPhone 5 that were simply relabeled, used OEM batteries with various levels of depleted charge capacity due to wear.
(Note, I even tried changing ro.semc.batt.capacity in build.prop to match the stated mAH rating on the gold batteries after these tests and it didn't make a difference for the two gold batteries)
