Hello,
I have a SGH-T989. I recently rooted it and installed cyanogenmod, with gapps and a custom kernel (AOSP UBER KERNEL). I think the kernel is the problem but i dont know how to attack it. Anyways, my phone is stuck on the cyanogenmod boot screen ( Teh one with the circle and cyanogenmod on the inside) and its not frozen, but wont go past that screen. So i tried booting into CWM Recovery, however, when i would i would get that screen as is i didnt have CWM ( the one with the warning about custom software, where u use volume up to continue and then install cwm with odin). So i just opened odin and installed cwm again, but now when i get into cwm, i see all the options, such as reboot system now, install zip from sd, wipe data, wipe ccache, backup, etc. However, i see it for about 5 seconds, then the screen goes black, then cwm comes up again and then repeat. I can go down like one option and then it goes black, then shows the same cwm screen again. Please help! Im a mad noob btw.

I'd suggest to use odin and flash TWRP 2.6.1.0 in download mode, reboot and go into TWRP and do a full advanced wipe, dont wipe preload or it will fail, if you really want to wipe preload, then go into settings and change it to use rm -rf instead of format, shouldnt really need it tho, after wiping just reflash rom/gapps, wipe cache/davilk and reboot.
Thanks for the response. Im sorry but, how do I do that? is download mode the screen you get to when you hold the power button and volume buttons, and then let go of the power button? That screen is CWM for me, and I cant do anything in that mode due to every 5 seconds it stopping and restarting (CWM itself, not the entire phone). Thanks.

Nope that's recovery, to get into download mode and flash TWRP recovery, make sure you have Odin3-v1.85 and the latest Samsung USB Drivers (Win 7/8/XP) and follow the instructions here, just ignore the part about rooting, get TWRP 2.6.1.0 flashed and then follow above posts suggestions.

You should be good, just make sure you didn't lose root access, I saw a post in the dev section with someone saying they lost root after flashing UBER kernel, but that might of just been something they did wrong on their end, not sure.

hello all, my first post.
I have incredible, rooted, with cyanogenmod 7. it has been working as normal for months and months. the other day, it just got stuck in the boot animation. i hadn't changed anything, system tweaks, etc, right before this.
i hold volume down and press power, and it goes to bootloader mode. normally here, i can select RECOVERY, and then goes to the black screen, where i could do many things, drastic as wipe the phone, reinstall cyanogenmod, g-apps, etc.
whats my problem now, is that when i hold power down and power and get to the white recovery screen, if i select RECOVERY, it doesnt go where it used to. it goes to the OTHER white screen where choices are, REBOOT, POWER DOWN, etc. So i select to go into recovery mode (the black screen) but it never goes there now. Always did before. Just goes to that next white screen, letting me reboot and start the cycle over again. I've tried with no SC card, no difference.
I found a post someone giving specific directions to format sd card, put radio update only on card, and boot with that in phone. I did, and it successfully said it updated, but still nothing has changed.
I cant get into recovery mode, to reformat, wipe, run any updates, nothing. I've tried so many times i can't even guess. I think it has become a brick. But I finally posted here hoping i may find some advice.
Anyone have any ideas of what i can do, if i can get into recovery mode?
if this helps, this all the info on the white screen - holding power down and powering on:
HBOOT-0.92.0000
MICORP-0417
TOUCH PANEL-ATMELC03_16ac

Flash this thru hboot. It the latest cwm recovery. You are s-off right?

Also the radio version you posted above 2.15.00.0000, is that a typo? I have never seen that radio version before.

ok that update worked! because its been a minute, and i'm so hyped to fix this, i am proceeding with extra extra caution; so, remind me what to choose here - i just don't want to get back into that loop. If i need to wipe phone's data, that's fine. My phone will be working and that makes me ecstatic!

S-off is security off. It allows you to flash images not signed by HTC. At the top of the hboot screen it should say either s-on or s-off. If it let tou flash cwm recovery you are s-off.
Yes enter recovery, wipe everything in mounts and storage and either flash a stock ruu thru hboot, or flash a rom of your choosing. Do not choose aply update.zip choose install from sdcard, and select your roms zip file.
I would also flash a new radio thru hboot, as i have never seen that version of radio for the incredible. http://dinc.does-it.net/Radios.

ok, so here's where I'm at now:
updated radio via hboot via last link posted. i can now get to recovery screen, which is awesome, but - i can select any of the options and select one, and then it goes to a black screen with the ROM manager hat logo, with a yellow arrow under it. The arrow does not move or rotate, as if it was processing my command. it just sits idle on that logo forever.
i can hit power to go back to the recovery menu, and selecting nothing, well, does anything!
any ideas? just far your replies have gotten me past the loop i was in, so i eagerly hope there's more input for me now as to why none of the options in recovery screen process when i select them, they just go to a logo with the hat and an arrow (remember, the arrow isn't moving at all).
btw its ClockworkMod Recovery v 5.0.2.0
thanks again,
ben
p.s. - my updated radio is 2.05.00.06.11 now, if that is important.

Do not use the power button to select items in recovery. Use the vol keys to navigate, the trackball to select, and the power button goes back.
same thing
i had the exact same thing just last week - stuck on bootloop with cyanogen 7. I tried some stuff for a little but ended up just switching to an ICS rom. which I am much happier with and would highly recommend.
right now im using ICS-Deck AOKP "Ice Cream Sandwich"

Can you enter recovery? If so wipe everything in mounts and storrage except emmc and sdcard, and then restore a known good backup or flash a rom fresh. If that dosent work i would do an ruu.
Can he do a ruu from Fastboot or hboot or cwmi thought he had to be able fully boot to use ruu.

He can do a PB31IMG.zip ruu through hboot. To do the ruu.exe with a pc you need to be able to boot to enable usb debuging i think.
i was able to do all the listed in this thread. but after 2 days of searching i still can't find a good solution for formatting /data, I get an error everytime and cm7 is the only rom that I can boot on my dinc. however when i think i have fresh flash, some of my old apps are still there.
if i ruu i get stuck on the red eye screen and the phone reboots.
I'm at a loss

Ok, let's start at the very beginning (it's a very good place to start).
Before we get started, I'm going to make the following assumptions:
You successfully rooted your phone through Odin.
You currently have a custom recovery (either TWRP or CWM).
You have a Rom you'd like to flash on either your internal storage or your SDcard (I'd recommend the SDcard, but that's your prerogative).
If either of the first two is not true, I'd recommend going back to qbking77's thread and check out the videos on how to use Odin to gain root and a custom recovery.
If number 3 above is not true, download a ROM (nor someone new to flashing/custom Roms, I'd recommend Freeza's stock rooted Rom, as it's identical to stock TW, but just with Root). Once you download a Rom, check it's md5sum to verify that it's a good download. Copy the file to your SD card and get ready to flash (make sure you have decent battery life left, I try to keep at least 50% or more when flashing Roms, although it shouldn't take too long.
I'll give directions on how to flash a Rom below. The instructions will be for TWRP, but CWM has similar options/settings
Turn your phone completely off (hold down power for 3-5 seconds)
Boot your phone into recovery. Hold Up, Menu, and Power for a few seconds (until SAMSUNG appears on your screen and the phone vibrates)
Make a Nandroid backup. I can't emphasize this enough. In flashing, it's almost a certainty that one time, something will mess up. When that happens, you want to be able to restore a backup. In TWRP, just go into Backup Menu and choose where you want it (internal vs. External storage). It takes my phone a few (5-10) minutes to completely backup my data.
In TWRP, click the wipe button, then system. This will completely wipe the Rom from your phone. Doing this will allow you to get a "clean" install, without any settings or leftover files from your old Rom getting in the way. Instead, you could only wipe data (factory reset), which is good enough for most Roms. I'd still recommend a system wipe, though.
Also while in the Wipe menu, wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache.
Go back to the TWRP main menu.
Click Install, then find your Rom zip file (may have to switch from internal to external storage).
Let TWRP do it's thing.
If you're installing a TW-based Rom, chances are it had gapps already installed. If not, you should now flash the correct gapps package from goo.im. Make sure you're flashing the correct one, as if you don't, your google apps will force close upon use.
Reboot into system and give it time to boot (first boot sometimes takes a couple of minutes).
Set up your phone the way you like.
These should be the directions to follow whenever you flash a new Rom. Some Roms have the Aroma installer, so you'll have more options once you choose to flash the Rom zip, but those are typically easy to follow (and vary from Rom to Rom, so I won't be able to give you a good guide on that).
Hope this helps!

You're still on stock recovery you need download goomanager from the play store hit the menu button and select install open recovery script to install twrp. Then reboot recovery and flash your rom

Ok, it sounds like your recovery is bonked (and yes, that is the technical term). Something must've gone wrong when you were flashing the recovery through Odin (not necessarily your fault, sounds like it might've been a corrupted download).
One thing you can do is to download the latest TWRP. The way to do this is to install the GooManager app from the play store.
Once GooManager is installed, click on the "menu" button, then choose "Install OpenRecoveryScript." This will download and install the latest version of TWRP. Let it do it's thing then try to reboot into recovery again (you can do it directly from GooManager, it's one of the main options).
Let me know if that works.

I know one of the steps with the Odin flashing it to reboot into Recovery before rebooting into the Rom (otherwise it re-installs the stock recovery). Do you think this person forgot to do that?

Most likely. Alot of people miss that step. You need to reboot recovery to disable the recovery install script that reflashes stock clockwork on boot.

To the OP why do you say you are rooted? Have to tried to install an app which requires root access and where able to? I think you failed to root the device at all. I think you need to go through the process all over again to root your device. Once you flash the custom recovery via odin you can not let the phone reboot, you must pull the battery then boot into the custom recovery flash the team Epic root zip which will prevent the stock recovery from being installed again. Then at this point will you be able to reboot the phone. Once it boots up verify you have SU installed and have root access. Now the MOST IMPORTANT thing you are going to do is shut down, boot back into custom recovery (cwm) and make a nandroid backup.

Go to SamMobile, register first (registration is free) and download the stock firmware for your S2x (SGH-T989D) and flash with Odin. I've given you the link(s) on the other site where you asked the question and included some additional information there. Feel free to communicate here if you run into further difficulty.
thanks

Since you can't revert back to the stock OS, flash the firmware and don't worry about wiping just yet. The Darkside SuperWipe method is used prior to installing a custom ROM. Download the appropriate firmware (4.1.2.) and get your T989D up and running first. Root the device and install a custom recovery. You may want to choose a CWM (ClockWorkMod) recovery as the Darkside SuperWipe works best with CWM. Download the QuickBoot app from the Playstore, this allows you to boot into recovery mode without having to press the volume up/down/power combination of buttons used to access recovery mode.
Do not skip any steps, instructions borrowed from TheDerekJay's Darkside SuperWipe page.
IMMEDIATELY BEFORE FLASHING ROM OF YOU CHOICE, DO THE FOLLOWING...
1. Place on ROOT of your SD card.
2. Boot into Recovery Mode
3. Do a NAND BACKUP!!!
4. Flash DARKSIDE SUPERWIPE
5. Stay inside recovery
6. Flash desired ROM.
7. After flashing is complete, Reboot...
8. Done!
At most, ten minutes tops. I've run into instances of fifteen minutes. If you're not seeing results by the twenty minute mark, you'll have to start over. Do not use nightly's or release candidates, especially if you want to use the custom ROM for stable everyday operation. If I've missed any steps, I'm sure others will add to this.

I think it might be best to get your S2x back to stock. If this is the only device you have, then it's probably not a good idea to start experimenting. If something should go wrong, you'll be without a phone. I started by practicing on a Galaxy Ace to get the hang of rooting and installing custom ROM's and gradually progressed to the S2x, HTC Raider etc. I'm not trying to discourage you, but I think you need to do a little more reading/research and gather the tools that you'll need to familiarize yourself with how this all works.
yeah, i think to :good:
with all the test i do i think i'm lucky to not brick my phone
i reflash with odin and it now work fine
i try the other solution but not work
when i want to install cyanogen. i'm gonna see on XDA forum for help first
If you're looking to squeeze a little more performance out of your device, rooting alone is a good option. At the moment, I've reverted back to stock firmware (4.2.1.) and only rooted the device. I've removed and/or quarantined most of the carrier and manufacturer bloatware (software not necessarily needed, but installed by carrier/manufacturer) and the S2x flies, zero lag and swiping through pages is incredibly fast.
I'm not sure which solution you're referring to, glad to hear your S2x is back up and running though. :good: I should add that the S2x is an aging device which is why we haven't seen a ton of answers to your post, lol. Maybe when you decide to upgrade to an S4 or something, you can use the S2x as a test device to practice with.
ok and wath is the best and safe way to root my phone
i already have that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955but

U need to go get the updated recovery, use twrp v2.6.1.0 from here techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules, flash the tar. file with odin then download the ROM of choice, put on SD card and boot to recovery, DO NOT use any superwipe/supercache wipe script with twrp, it can break things, do a full wipe in twrp (advanced wipe menu) data, system, dalvik cache, and cache, 3x each, the flash ROM, flash gapps, reboot and let the phone sit ten min, then reboot again and set up, should be fine, u need to be on a newer recovery to flash these new roms..

No just go to the link I provided, download the tar file, put the device in download mode, and use Odin to flash the recovery tar file just like u would if u were going back stock, but only flash the recovery, or if u u really want to, go to the dev section and find the twrp thread and find the flashable zip file, that u can flash with cwm, but either way u don't need to return to stock, I suggest using the Odin method I proscribed ..

why does my phone just freezes at the teamwin screen? i odin flashed the v2.6.1.0 of twrp because i read the v2.6.3 is very buggy.

yea i just went to http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules and downloaded the http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules.tar file. the one thats downloaded 678 times. went to odin and flashed the tar file a second time. the same result is happening that it just freezes at the teamwin screen. the odin passed and i let the phone reboot with the cable in and it just boot looped since my phone is having boot loops problems. i take the battery out and try to go into recovery mode but it just freezes up at that blue team win screen. is there a button im supposed to press while on that screen to move or something
hmm..i had to odin flash the twrp 6.0.3 for it not to freeze up on the team win screen.

So now everything boots up ok?
no twrp v2.6.3.1
---------- Post added at 01:26 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 AM ----------
but yea i dont understand why the 2.6.1.0 freezes at the team win screen but the 2.6.3 dont freeze up. i heard the 2.6.3 is very buggy atm. so im not sure should i risk flashing with this version or give the twrp 2.6.1 one more try.
That is weird, I had no problem with 2.6.1 maybe give it another shot at least you'll know for sure. As for the button combination, I just use the volume up/down keys and power to get into recovery, trick I found was to let go of power right after that slight vibration and keep holding both volume keys until the TeamWin logo appears.
yea it froze up again with the team win v2.6.1.0. i guess my only option atm is to flash with the 2.6.3 since im boot looped. im gonna try and flash that ROM Hellybean
So you have an S2?
yes tmobile galaxy s2 t989, something is wrong with teh phone. im on twrp 2.6.3, when i tried to advance wipe data, system, and all that it just freezes for like 30 mins. had to pull battery.
Tried Cyanogen 10.2 d2spr
Sprint Galaxy s3 L710
Android 4.3
Odin 1.85
Got superuser and used goomanager w twrps
made backups
Tried to flash cyanogen and i got error missing md5
tried a fix where you edit the updater-scripts in the cyanogen zip and that didnt work
Then I read that switching to cws would fix the problem, I read that you can d/l the cws zip and use twrps to flash it
Basically I was way over my head and shoulda kept the restore to stock option because that WAS working
Phone wont boot normal. volumeup and power and menu just flashes"recovery booting" or something really fast in the top left corner and shuts back off
Idk... Odin doesnt recognize the phone anymore
Definitely dont know what im doing anymore

Can you get into download mode or are you just plugging into the computer; Odin won't recognize your phone unless it is in download mode first. Also, I find Odin 3.07 to be a bit better than 1.85.

To be clear, you are holding Volume Down (not Volume Up, which is for Recovery Mode), Home Key, and Power Button all at the same time until the main Download screen appears?

You need a couple of things first. You will want to use Odin to push the latest version of Philz Touch, as it is a much better recovery than either CWM or TWRP. There is an option in Philz to restore TWRP backups, so as long as the backup you made earlier was of a proper working ROM (I would assume of your stock version), then you can use Philz to restore it. If you aren't comfortable switching recoveries right away, use Odin to push TWRP again. Basically, I want to make sure you have a working custom recovery in place before proceeding any further. Also, don't use a third-party to download/install ROM's, you need to be downloading from the official source. If you are wanting to run Cyanogen, go to their website and download directly from them.

Once you have pushed the recovery onto your phone (make sure the Reboot option is unchecked in Odin, otherwise it will boot up too soon), pull your battery out for about ten seconds, replace, and then use the button sequence for Recovery Mode, make sure to hold the buttons past the vibration until the actual screen pops up.

If you received an MD5 error on the first install, you most likely have a bad download, so you probably won't be able to flash it with CWM either. I am assuming that when you made your backup, you used TWRP, in which case you cannot restore that with CWM, you will need either Philz Touch or TWRP. We need to get you booted back into a working system before proceeding, as you should have no OS installed currently if you wiped everything properly before attempting to flash Cyanogen.
I feel like Im going to have three different recoveries on the phone if I do that. I don't understand what im doing fundamentally. All I can do right now is follow instructions. And I'm scared now lol. How do I increase your thanks meter ahah Maybe I should do more research. Should what I was trying to do work in the first place?

Only one recovery can exist at a time, so whatever one you pushed or flashed most recently will be the current one. Which one did you have on the phone when you made your backup? That will be a good starting point.

So as I mentioned earlier, you will need to get either TWRP back as your recovery, in order to restore the backup you made with it, or you will want to switch to Philz, which is the best recovery option available anyway, and use Philz to restore your TWRP backup. I think for starters you will want to use TWRP just to get back up and running, and then switch to Philz soon so that you aren't too overwhelmed tonight.

Choose the tar file for either version 2.6.3.0 or 2.6.3.1 and use Odin to push it onto your phone (2.6.3.1 is the newest version, but doesn't install properly on some devices; 2.6.3.0 should work for our purposes if 2.6.3.1 doesn't install properly for you). Then follow my instructions a couple of posts back about booting into recovery after using Odin.
Ill have to do this tomorrow. I pushed the tar through with odin and the phone is running at stock with supersu. Im not sure if my recovery is cwm or twrp now. But I have spent all day doing this. Ill continue tomorrow thnx again.

You should now have TWRP as your custom recovery. Feel free to PM me if needed tomorrow for any advice going forward.
Hi, my S4 mini entered a boot loop and pressing volume up+home+power doesn't enter recovery mode.
I haven't been playing anything strange with it, it has stock rom.
I just boarded a plane, put it to plane mode and when I landed it was like this.
Please help, I don't know what to do.:crying:
Thanks
Flash stock firmware using odin.
Or you can try flashing a custom recovery and making factory reset. You will lose data but phone will recover.
Stock rom odın flash, recovery wipe data ve cache and reboot
Sorry bad for English
Sent from my GT-I9190 using XDA Free mobile app
Thank you, but Odin is only for windows and I don't have it.
Any other program for Mac that could do that?
If possible I would not want to have the phone factory reset, I haven't done anything to justify this.
With my previous galaxy I had been playing and I could understand something similar,
but with this one I did absolutely nothing, do you understand why it happened?
I think you can not solve without turning to factory settings
Data are data without opening the phone what I will do if you can work something yok.he half of
Sorry Bad For English
Ok, I managed to get a windows PC and flashed the rom again with Odin.
It turned out that is not the problem. The problem is that after that (as much as before), when I start in recovery mode it shows the dead android and says "no command", after which it enters the boot loop again.
Now the phone has a freshly flashed stock rom, so what could it be???
I also flashed CWM-recovery and stil I can't get into recovery.
Kinda desperate now!

Just grab a latest build of any custom recovery for your device and flash it via odin.
Use TWRP or CWM latest builds. Once they flash successfully and the screen turns off
as device reboots, press and hold home and vol up keys which takes u to recovery.
Now go to advanced wipe and choose cache, data, dalvik AND INTERNAL STORAGE.
It is recommended to wipe internal storage this time. Just in case. Then reboot.
Thanks, but in which way is your suggestion different from what I just did?

Oh sorry. So it does not work even with custom recovery....
Did you try to flash it with a pit file earlier ? I mean did you do any re-partition ?
This is indeed really strange.
I tried CWM, not TWRP.
I don't know what a pit file is, I didn't repartition it, I did absolutely nothing to it.
I boarded a plane, put it in plane mode (I think) and when I landed 9h later it was off.
When I started it, it boot looped and no recovery.
Ok, now I tried also TWRP, nothing new
Does anybody have any further suggestion? I'm totally stuck and without phone almost a week now.

Better to take the phone to service center.
They will solve it.
even better I'll buy an iphone next time
