how to upgrade from junior member?

I know this has nothing to do with the kaiser, but I was wondering how you "go up in the ranks on this site" I've been a junior member for dumb long and I see people that have been members for a shorter period of time than me that are already senior members
It's an annual fee of $3409475345. Expensive, but worth it.
Seriously though, you have to hit 100 posts.
Ooooooooooh Ok thank you very much I was wondering.

LOL You crazy that was a good one.
At 30 post the junior will drop off and then they will become a member and at 100 post you become a senior.
see i was wondering about this...
add that to the post count!
100th post for you! I knight you a Senior Member!
DRUGS...Responsible For Teaching America's Youth The Metric System!
That is BOMB! So funny...and so true!
In 8th grade my science teacher was trying to tell his class that the Metric system and the Standard system were incompatible and asked his class; "how many grams was in an ounce?"
My reply was "28 grams, 29 in the bag". His face turned red as he was a secret stoner~ He told me I was wrong but we all knew he was BS-ing...

Ali G made a joke about it over here once, when he was interviewing some poor dupe.
The guy was one of these fellas that was up in arms about the increasing use of metric measures in Britain.
Ali asked him something to the effect of "So you fink dat schoolkids should be taught to use ounces, eighths, quarters and sixteenths?"
The guy unknowingly agreed to schoolchildren being taught to use these popular measures of hash!

Sticky this thread! I swear, look at my 100th post I guarantee it was abzolutely pointless, pardon the principle that it WAS my 100tth!!
Do like some people around here and respond to threads by dividing up your thoughts into individual sentences, and then reply 50 times to a thread. This method is very popular among the members here.
Welcome to the esteemed league of Senior Members.

Well! I thought with a title like that it was another reference to adult sites...
Thread has been moved to About xda-developers section.

As far as I know, your post count is derived from how many original posts you made in separate threads. You can post as many times as you want in the same thread, however it won't pad your post count.

Not true. Most of my first 100 or so posts were helping noobs use Dutty's ROMs so I was always posting in the same few threads.

Hello,
I've been a registered user for a while now, but haven't tried to post until today. When I try to post a message containing a URL, I receive the following error:

As far as I know, you will need a # of post (more than 5 I think) before you are allow to insert a link in any thread. I'm not a mod, but I read about this somewhere in this site : If I'm wrong, maybe a mod can correct me with this one
Have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636765 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=626993.
Yep, need something like 5 to 10 posts for links.
Hmm, ok, thanks. I just wanted to post a URL to my new project and gather some feedback, but I guess I'll have to lurk around longer and find some other stuff to comment on.
In the same boat as you.
But i guess its better than page on page with spam from bots
Yes, after a few posts the system and Moderators can see whether you are a genuine member or not.
In the meantime you can use links like this:
wwwdotxda-developers.com
You can always go back later and put in working links.

Had a look at your thread, posted comments, and the site; all seems in order.
As a courtesy, I have changed the links for you ... with an understanding that you will do your best to keep the thread active and help out members who post it in as best you can.
Cheers,
I cant write on nexus forum
I just wrote a "best contract deals" post for the HTC Desire, and discovered I can't post links yet ARG! So I have it saved in notepad until I've made a few more small comments like this to get enough posts to post links
Damn, I've got to wait 5 mins between posts too

As stated earlier, this process has been setup to combat spammers. I believe once you have more than 8-10 posts, this restriction is removed

What are the chances these rules can be adjusted so they aren't ridiculously frustrating? I can't post or edit my own posts without waiting 5 minutes, I can't post images or even quote images posted by other users. I've been viewing these boards everyday since I joined (about a week ago) and it's making the transition to participating VERY obnoxious

Sorry about the issues, we all had to go through it at one point. Since XDA is such a large and popular site we have been a big target for spam, so to make sure the boards arent full of ads and spam we have to make the rules a little strict. its only for 10 or so posts.

I believe you will now be out of the "initial" group, as you have 5 posts. Within the next 1 or 2 posts, it should be finished
I know that this is an old thread but I really want to post thanks to certain individuals or post in discussion forums but due to this restriction it means I'm having to spend a lot longer on the XDA site just to post what I wanted to. For instance even this post took me an extra 4 minutes...

Signature & Restriction

I was just wondering why I cannot add a Signature, like I want to put my phone, the custom ROM I am using etc.. like a load of other members have done.
And like a previous post named "restricted" :

A few changes have been created to help the fight against spambots. As such all new members (until they reach 5 posts...used to be 8 but I believe its been reduced to 5) will have some restrictions such as unable to post links, access to certain areas and also their first 5 posts are monitored and approved. Once you have reach this limit these restrctions will be removed.
Thanks for you patience in this matter

Hi, I can´t find any forum rules that help me to answer the question, how many posts you have to write, until u can use a signature.
When does a junior member/member become a member/senior member?
By the way: I did not only serch this forum but also used google search, but found nothing. Same in forum rules.
So I would be glad, to get a definite answer and no advice, to serch the web once more !
Thanx!

Junior member - 0 to 49 posts
Member - 50 to 99 posts
Senior member - 100+ posts
We have purposely not written anywhere the amount of posts required for a new user to be able to use links etc. This is in place to combat spammers.

Thank you very much. Now things are clearer for me. So I have to write more, but I´m interested not only to write rubbish, to reach the limit.
Makes perfect sense, over at LPF (laser pointer forums) theres a ten post limit till you get all the goodies unlocked, it has effectivly eliminated 90% of spammage, and the mods get to choose if you can have a sig or not, depending on how "vulgar" you are. most frown upon vulgarity in most mature comunities such as XDA. excellent implementation i say
(cant wait for my sig though )

I don't think so.
If the restriction is the same as posting links, try adding one now.
Signature size restriction
I was wondering if there were any plans on putting in a signature size restriction? Some of these can get pretty ridiculous and take up a lot of screen space, especially when they post many times in one thread so you have to see it over and over and over.

Or you could read here
Could signatures always be shown as an option in the User CP, but be greyed out with a quick blurb explaining when/where/how/why they will be allowed? On treocentral they always gave a warning on the page about not being allowed to see/post links until 10 posts.

Dude, with those information-less posts you could be kicked finaly. You should test ROMs for your device and give feedback to the devs. Or try to help other members with problems. Additional there are many apps from xda-members you can test and give feedback about them.
good luck
I was actually wondering this as well. I'm in no hurry though lol. Is there a post requirement for moderators? (Just out of curiosity, I have no where near the experience I need )

There is no automatic "spam to come posts and be a mod".
There are criteria listed in the announcement in about xda forum (this one) when applications open...
Mainly demonstrating being helpful over a fairly long period of time and being a good example.
You will notice most mods have fairly high post counts though but it is not as a result of that.

[Q] Blocking PM usage to new members

Recently I've picked up on a trend where people are signing up to the site and then, without searching or reading the threads, they start to shoot off questions via PMs. Is there a way to ensure that new members do not have access to the PM function until they have a certain number of post of have been a member for a specific period of time (if you want to stop spam posting)?

I wish there were a way as well. I normally just have fun with them when I get a PM from someone who obviously didn't search or read. I've sent two users to lemon party dot com already.
So no reply from XDA?
If we extend the 10 post rule to PMs, that would probably increase the number of junk posts in other forums. The thinking is... "ok, I can't post in any development forum, and I can't PM anyone...I might as well inundate other sections with my question until I get a reply!"
...so, not sure it's the best solution.
How about the second suggestion then? They have to be a member for a certain period of time before the function is available to them?

I like tat this suggestion!! Set a Certain period of time.
But may I suggest, also implement 10 post. Of course with CAPTCHA implemented. (But implementing CAPTCHA, meant the WHOLE Global XDA posting will have CAPTCHA, will end up a GLOBAL Panic for DEV)

I totally agree. The Q&A and General forums are getting inundated with "I can't post in the dev threads" questions. It's made matters worse. I think new users should be able to post in dev forums, but not create a thread their own in there.
