I am thinking of rooting so I can move some apss in the sd card. I am going to keep the stock rom, just root. Now if I do that, wil I lose the OTA updates? I am expecting 4.3 to hit my device any day now, and I dont want to lose it.

BTW - sammobile.com/firmware link does not work.

Yes you lose all your apps if you don't make a backup first through cwm or something..
And sammobile.com/firmware works just fine. Just download your firmware of your phone and flash via Odin.

Getting error on new update LG8

I got the little pop up that there was an update so I installed it and it said the phone was going to boot in 6 seconds or whatever, after that the phone booted into CWM and it said it failed install. Now every time I check for an update it says there's no update right now. Am I the only one with this problem? How do I fix it? Is it because I'm rooted? I'm on the stock rom by the way.

Yes, it is because you are rooted. Download the stock rooted DeOdex one done by freeza. Good stuff.

I need to flash the Lg8 firmware and Other parts? Or does it not work if I don't? I have never flashed anything using Odin, could I get steps? Thanks. Also what if I want to flash another rom? Do I need to flash the lg8 firmware and other parts again?

see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1743923
you don't need to flash the modem if you don't want to. Although I think (opinion only, and they vary between user) LG8 is a very good modem right now.
Once you flash modem, you will keep it until you revert or flash a newer modem or a rom specifically tells you it also provides it.

So flash the DeOdex version via CWR.
Then flash the Modem.zip via CWR.
Then use Odin and flash "Other Parts" .tar file and that's it?
Will there be any differentiation between going this route versus unrooting -> OTA update -> re-rooting?
The way I flash I got the legit update and flash with custom recovery and before the reboot flash the team win root file and ur done then reboot and ur done u have the hole update and firmware and radio and rooted and u keep your custom recovery

Question about OTA updates after rooting

So I have rooted the phone, tried both Chainfire's and Chenglu's method. After rooting OTA servers won't connect anymore. It's happening for all. Even after using Triangle Away.
Anyway, what is bothering me, that those OTA updates, do they only appear as OTA updates, or the same available via Kies as well? And in case Kies doesn't work too is there any way to install them? Or do I have to give up on updates?
Thanks in advance.

You select your model in this page and you download OTA updates. After you copy the zip file in micro sd of mobile device, then in recovery mode you select apply update from sd card and you have installed manually it.

Sammobile only posts full rom`s afaik and no OTA`s. There we`re only JB OTA leaks for the I9300 mate. Best is to uninstall Kies (exept the usb drivers) and flash the whole rom with Odin (PC or Mobile Odin). Also delete FotaCient.apk and FWUpgrade with root explorer in system/apps to stop the notifications

What country do i pick? I bought an international note 2, but I live in Canada.
The box my note came in is from Samsung France, but there are the French options and none match the firmware build i have.

International Note 2
When I got mine, it didn't have the multi-window option. Then a few days ago, OTA update came through, and updated to XXALJ1. I then also rooted the rom. Now I also see I can't OTA anymore. I have no yellow triangle when the phone boots up. Even used Voodoo OTA rootkeeper, to "unroot" the phone, still no luck
This is so stupid from Samsung that they check if your phone is rooted. Is there now way to by pass this, except for manually downloading any new roms and update via recovery.

Whenever there is OTA, it will be available on Kies as well here on XDA too
Really in 2 yrs of my use of samsung android i have updated to kies only once or twice and OTA - Never
Flashing with Odin is much safer and easy, so just forget OTA and enjoy !

No that is not so easy. Somewhere it is mentioned how to flash OTA, but don't remember exactly where it is.
Even mobile odin have option, but till date i didn't find any reported case that worked.
Yes, flashing with Odin is much simpler than updating with Kies. But there is this tiny 12 MB update just popped up for India today, and now I have to download the whole 1 GB ROM. You see what I'm saying doc?
Yes this is helpful in this matter but OTA installation is many time painful, when it is unsuccessful.

Upgrade 4.1.2 using ODIN

Was about to update my Note 2 to 4.1.2 using N7100XXDLL7_N7100OXADLL4_XEF, after a bit of late night stupidity last night not being able to get into download mode i was set to give it another try, however when I download the above zip file I end up with this filename which I'm sure the extension isnt right?
N7100XXDLL7_N7100OXADLL4_N7100XXDLK7_HOME.tar.md5
So I just deleted the ".md5" im just wondering if I should just wait for the OTA, I want to keep root so I can use sky go.

If you flash it in Odin, You shouldt leave the name as it is:
N7100XXDLL7_N7100OXADLL4_N7100XXDLK7_HOME.tar.md5
With the 'md5' extention
After flashing you might root again with toolkit
Note that youre GNII will be fresh and all is to be erased

Yeah I understand it will be wiped, but thats not the end of the world, but flashing the stock rom using odin wont root the device or trigger the flash counter?

Then just flash the .tar.md5 file with mobile odin but deselect Inject Ever Root, Super SU and Mobile Odin. Unless the ROM you are flashing is rooted, then you will not be rooted when you reboot.

Lost my root

I tried a few times to update to 4.1.2 via OTA but it fails half way through, so today i decided to update via odin.
before i updated i'd thought i will remove the root for some stupid reason.
applied the update and everything went well. Re-rooted my phone via odin and cf auto root but no SuperSU. installed it from the play shop but it kept crashing all the time!!!!!! so it cant do anything.
Re-flashed the new firmware but the SuperSU icon is there but eveytime i click on it im getting "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Can do i install it again?

there has to be a better way than that. i will lose all my apps, settings, data, etc!
Well backup apps with adb. Or make a nand. Titanium backup can extract backups from nands.

[Q] unable to update to 4.3

My note 2 is on 4.1.2 (non-rooted) and I am India and I have got 4.3 OTA update. I downloaded and while flashing, at 35%, it got stopped and booted up to 4.1.2
So, i downloaded the ota again, and flashed. It got stopped at 24%.
So, I decided to update via kies. I started downloading the FW, but the download is stuck at 0% and yes, I have a pretty good internet connection!
what to do? If I go the ODIN way, will it delete my internal memory too????? This is the only thing stopping me from flashing 4.3 via ODIN. Also, i will have to Factory reset after flashing via ODIN which i dont want too :/
Any other solution or ODIN to the rescue?

Search here on xda as 'pre rooted 4.3 firmware for n7100' something like that, you'll find some thread. Download one from there and flash via odin. There is also no wipe version I think, which will not erase your internal memory.

Is there any non rooted firmware?
Because my dad uses that phone and he doesn't want any root or things like that. So that is why I don't know about firmwares and things about this forum.
I was doing some search and came up with this..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536423
is this okay to update? will this wipe my phone?
In most possibilities YES.
Infact it is recommended that you take backup of your important data and let internal memory get wiped. It will save you some future headaches.
