I tried a few times to update to 4.1.2 via OTA but it fails half way through, so today i decided to update via odin.
before i updated i'd thought i will remove the root for some stupid reason.
applied the update and everything went well. Re-rooted my phone via odin and cf auto root but no SuperSU. installed it from the play shop but it kept crashing all the time!!!!!! so it cant do anything.
Re-flashed the new firmware but the SuperSU icon is there but eveytime i click on it im getting "There is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
Can do i install it again?

there has to be a better way than that. i will lose all my apps, settings, data, etc!
Well backup apps with adb. Or make a nand. Titanium backup can extract backups from nands.

If doing a factory test doesn't do it, you would need a stock ROM.

Sometimes a factory reset will remove root, depending on the root method. If root was gained by a means that persists through factory reset, the only way to remove it is with a flash to a stock firmware.

If you want to be completely stock without losing data....
First flash cf auto root for stock recovery
Then download supersu again
Then download triangle away
Run triangle away as root
Then go to super su and full unroot
0 flash counter
Stock recovery
Unrooted
Profit.
Ps this took me 2 hours to figure without losing apps or data. So hit the thanks if it helped

So I upgraded to Jelly Bean using the OTA on Rogers. I used Voodoo to maintain my root access but it only seemed to preserve it for the apps that already had access. I was trying to flash CWM on the phone today only to find out root is broken.
What is the easiest way for me to regain root access? I uninstalled SuperUser and reinstalled it without any luck. Now the root apps like TiBu that were working before are no longer working.
I need some guidance on how I should proceed to get it back. I really don't want to have to wipe all my data if that can be avoided. I was able to install CWM using ADB. But I'd rather have my root functionality restored in my TW ROM so that I can make a proper backup before beginning to flash custom ROMs.
My details are in my sig. Thank you.
Just re-root it. You don't uninstall and re-install Superuser.

Would you think the best course of action is to flash the SuperSu.zip via CWM or reload the OS on top using Odin/MrRobinson's method and have it repair what's broken?
I noticed my flash counter is now showing 1, don't know how that happened.

I would try rerooting get latest CWM and SU, flash SU, then before you reboot go into advance fix permissions, reboot go into SU and fix binaries.
Back up before all this, just in case.

Thank you for the reply. I will attempt this once I get home. I was able to make a CWM backup last night. But I noticed that CWM was overwritten with the stock recovery once I rebooted, is it safe to set that option within CWM to make it set itself as the default recovery?

No problem, CWM should be the default recovery. And when you go to restore make sure you choose the backup you created with CWM.

It doesn't stick. Turns out the stock recovery is set to reload itself at each boot. This is the fix:
You will need to rename or delete these two files.

/system/etc/install-recovery.sh

Hello everyone I have a questions about OTA.
I recently rooted my phone (n7100) using exynos-abuse and installed spenboard switcher by copying the .apk in the /system/app folder everying is working fine but now i get an OTA notification, download goes without any problem but install fail (tried 3 times).
I don't think the root itself is the problem since i got an OTA after rooting but before the installation of Spen board switcher without any problem.
The status on the device is still normal so i'm wondering if the installation of the .apk can be the problem (i made a try after removing the .apk but still no succes) is there something I miss ?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Restore stock rom.

im in the same boat as u i guess, got the update downloaded but wont complete update keeps researching for an update.
rooted stock rom as well.
i think we need to go samifirmware and re download the stock rom flash via odin, but we will loose all data???
Flashing official ROM with Odin won't erase data. though i highly recommend backup, in case you get bootloop you may need to wipe.
Yep right.
It's recommend to do a factory reset then
Flash stock rom

Kind of figured it would... any workarounds yet? My previous root method was through the Exynos Abuse app... no update yet though. I realize it just came out, so was just wondering...
why would you install an OTA update when you are rooted?
Because I wasn't thinking. :banghead:

So are there a question in this thread? If so, is the question how to get root back? Just use Odin and flash a custom recovery then reinstall SU.
I installed the update and kept root. When it finished downloading the package, it restarted into my custom recovery. I use ClockworkMod. Once I flashed it CWM told me that root might be lost and do I want to try to keep it. Of course, I said yes. Restarted, and everything was fine and rooted!

I need to return my phone to stock so I can send in for warranty. I used the one click method a while back. Unroot checker says im not rooted but I still have the su icon in my apps. I tried flashing the stock tar file but odin gets stuck at nand write start. Ive searched on how to correct this issue but from what ive read no one has found a solution. I have tried about 4 different odin versions. I wanted to try to flash a pit file to see if that works, but I can not find the correct pit file. Can I get some assistance please?

Im confusing myself. I just did the ota update and now Im no longer rooted, which I understand. But now if I reroot by flashing the rooted stock rom on that page I wont be able to use triangle away with that version of firmware. So what do I do?
Go into the dev section, and find the stock/rooted UCAMA4 rom from Mr. Robinsons thread...http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22901594685178627
The rom is above this line...I pulled it for you...^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^....
Then odin push it to the device.
Once complete...run triangle away then remove the app.
Then remove SU from within the app.
Then take the update..(optional)
Flash counter will read "0", and device will read normal...
Dont forget to go into the stock recovery and wipe data, factory reset when done.
That's it...it's that easy.....g
Thanks a lot I really appreciate that G!. I actually got the counter back to 0 with the updated triangle away. Im still rooted on 4.1.1. So now I need to flash 4.1.2 to remove root and upgrade to 4.1.2. Hopefully I wont trip the counter .....
