I was on a clean full wipe Omega v19 ROM and flashed omegadroid's "Project_Note3_mod_PackageV2" but the new Note3 apps were not stable enough.
I found another developer playing with Note3 features and in my endless wisdom I decided to flash "Note_3_features_for_Note_2_MK4_v2_(E-Team)" on top of the existing mess :good:...... 320 apps were updated and optimized.
After the reboot I'm now stuck on Samsung Logo (waited 30+ mins).
When I enter recovery mode CWM 6.0.3.1 I get stuck on "formatting /data" while trying a full wipe.
Only battery removal gets me out of it
I've been googling and reading on XDA, there are many tips and hints but no solution.
- restore EFS? (I have of course a backup from sometime last year)
- reroot?
- reflash CWM?
- flash stock ROM (fear of getting a Knox bootloader stops me here...)
- flash custom ROM again (without doing a full wipe?)
please help... I don't want to make things worse . I have access to recovery mode and bootloader mode, but not sure on the order in which to do things now...
EDIT: I tried a "wipe cache" in recovery and a then new install with the same custom ROM "Omega v19 again. Everything seems fine in the beginning. As soon as it starts installing it stays at "Installing 0%". After about a minute a reboot and then stuck on Samsung logo again.

Flashed PhilZ Touch 6 (CWM base version v6.0.4.5).
new recovery starts fine. same result though: stuck on "Formatting /data"
funny thing though with PhilZ: while "stuck on formatting /data" the screen and bottom icons react when I press them (light up and short vibration, mobil is therefore not really "stuck").
after about a minute: reboot, and then stuck on Samsung logo.
EDIT: From recovery menu, trying a "format /data" (if I can't wipe it, perhaps it needs a clean format). Following text appears:
E. unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
E. unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Formatting /data...
and after a minute, again a reboot and stuck on Samsung logo.
stuck again...
You should try Philz 5.x, I also had problems with 6.x

tnx. flashed PhilZ 5.15.0 (combining post 2 and 6, apologies to shhbz for not pickling up on the version number)
result is the same: again stuck on "formatting /data"
and about a minute later a reboot followed by the samsung logo.
also removed SD and SIM card in an attempt to solve the problem. no difference whatsoever.
EDIT: system information from PhilZ:
System size: 2016 MB
Free: 1984 MB
Data Size: 10709MB
Free: 6091 MB
SDCard Size: -1 MB
Free: -1 MB
Surely the "-1 MB" is not good...
I managed to start my phone again, but I have not really been able to find the reason. This is what I did: (hope it can help others)
In an attempt to get things working again, I flashed a totally different ROM.
" [N7100 MK4][1Dec]Dr.Ketan's Custom ROM V6 Deodexed|Prerooted|Note3 Fs"
Of course without a "full wipe" in recovery (since this does not work, see post #1), and I only performed a "wipe cache". Installation went fine. My phone was before stuck at the first Samsung logo at the top of the screen with model number "GT-N7100". After a few seconds, the boot animation started (blue Samsung logo in the middle of the screen and "breathing" blue LED).
My Note2 starts again after more than a day of nothing! There are some crashes which is the result of changing ROM/ without full wipe. So I tried a factory reset from within this ROM. After reboot it entered recovery mode and presented the choice to "fix root", which I answered "No" (as far as I know, answering "yes" results in a lost root). Now wait SEVERAL MINUTES when presented with the Samsung boot animation (blue samsung logo with breathing LED), and you should get the familar "welcome" screen where you select langage etc.
SOLVED
problem is solved with help from this thread and a LOT og googling and reading in the community. thank you!!
Flashing Dr. Ketan's ROM and performing a "Settings/Backup and Restore/Factory reset" from hos ROM did the trick.
I am still unsure why the "/data" failed. It seemed to mount fine, but format or wipe got stuck.
To test, I then tried (of course) a reboot to recovery: "wipe cache" worked fine, and "full wipe" now also works fine. Seems that his ROM restored the structure (partition layout?) of the internal memory.:good: Now I have to install it again
On omega 19 also. Same problem. Fixed by flashing philz touch by odin.
My problem started when I tried to install a diferent rom...same stuff suck on formatting. After a few mins it would restart in recovery by itself. I tried to install TWRP but it went into "recovery bootloop" it started the TWRP blue image and it just kept turning of and on.
I also reseted settings from inside the rom.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

have seen that many times. I could never figure that out. I tried going through the menus quickly, I tried going slowly. No difference. Remove battery and try again and again and again, and sometimes you get to the end and it starts installation. Does not make sense but works. It must be an internal Aroma thing. It is only during pre-installation this can happen, as soon as the actual installation starts it will continue.

Hi
i figured out how to update my original firmware of 4.1.1 on my Note 2 N7105 LTE to 4.1.2 by downloading this tar.md5 (N7105XXDLL4_N7105TMHDLK8_TMH) through Odin
and it seemed to work because in "about device" it says im running 4.1.2 and it also seems to be a REALLY annoying European T-Mobile version because of the short and LOUD t-mobile video every single time i open and close my phone.
I also installed CWM-based Recovery v6.0.1.5-jb which works perfectly (thank god)
now when i tried to boot the deodexed rom for N7105XXDLL4 through recovery via sd card. everything seems fine i can choose all the options in sequence and when i get to the end it tries to install (percentage bar) but stops very quickly and reboots me to recovery mode...the first time i did that it forced me to restore from backup (because it wouldnt boot at all) and the second time i did it it made me reboot and the samsung logo appeared followed by "android is upgrading 0 to 162" I WAS SUPPPPER HAPPPPY!! but i was crossing my fingers...low and behold the phone did boot but all the fonts and everything else were EXTREMELY tiny and a message kept popping up saying SystemSU has closed or something..
I obviously restored back to t-mobile 4.1.2 (hungarian)
Is there something wrong im doing during the installation? should i try and upload it through odin or something instead of through my sd card??and how do you do that?? i mean it cant be the wrong deodexed because i chose the first one for xxdll4 and it the installation does boot on my phone..
i mean everything looks great except for the fact that it stops at the beginning of installation and reboots me to recovery prematurely....
ANY HELP???!!!! THANKS!!!

I've been having some trouble trying to boot the latest AOKP for some reason, clean install didn't work so I restored a backup from recovery. After that, TWRP asked me for a password soon as I got into recovery. This is the first time I've seen this..and I figure that reflashing the recovery should be all I need to do, then I should be able to reflash AOKP and enjoy, right? Problem is, I can't find a .tar file as goo.im doesn't appear to want to give me the file. :crying:
So before I spend the rest of my day off on a wild chase for a simple file, can anyone tell me if I'm going about this the right way? My searching the issue hasn't yielded much in the way of results. Just want to get my phone back up and running!
EDIT:
I wasn't being clear enough. Despite restoring my backup, it force closed one thing or another every few seconds so I went to recovery to reflash. That's when things failed because of this password. I'm limited to download and recovery modes now, which isn't bad except for I still can't find a .tar to flash via Odin.
Reflashing TWRP hasn't resolved the password issue. Looks like I need to find a new angle..
what version are you on? did you just flash that same version?
Was at 2.5.0.0, and yes I reflashed the same one. I can't remember which version I was on before this one. Any recommendations?
perhaps revert to the previous release. if you're d2att, here's the link to the 2.4.4.0 tar
This version throws the same password prompt. I never set a password for this..didn't even know it was an option

Just went through trying different versions all the way back to 2.3.3.1 which I know I used for quite a while without any trouble. I want to try CWM but I can't find it in .tar form, just .img
WOW!! I found CWM version 5.8.4.7 on my computer's HDD, and so I flashed it. CWM wouldn't mount my external sd card where my ROM zips are. Got tired of messing with that and so I flashed back TWRP and it came back with the same password prompt. Great... Guess I'm flashing back to stock and starting over.

follow this link to the root from recovery thread. download the root kit and flash the recovery.tar.md5 file. its an older cwm so after flashing, you have the option to download and flash a recovery flashable twrp zip (to see if that fixed the password issue) or remain on cwm and download/flash a new release
follow the link in my signature. at the bottom of post #2 are the download links for the latest releases to both cwm and twrp. flash in recovery, go to advanced and reboot recovery. presto

Thanks for that. Flashed a CWM 6.0.3.1 flashable zip after that, and now it's giving me an error trying to flash my ROM zip.. Status 7. Going to try redownloading it..

Grrr...It's still doing the same thing that started this adventure. Gets stuck at the underwear kernel loading screen and won't boot up.
CWM and TWRP nandroids are different. If you make a backup with TWRP you cant restore with CWM, and vice versa.
if you're still getting stuck on the loading screen, wipe data/factory reset in recovery and wipe cache. reboot and see if that fixes your issue

I've tried this many times, nothing's working. I got fed up and used ODIN to go back to stock, and now even THAT won't boot. Went to download, again flashed CWM and tried wiping cache, did a factory reset and fixed permissions. It STILL won't boot. I can't figure out what I did wrong to save my life. This all started with the same wipe procedures I always take when updating AOKP. I'm completely lost right now..
Maybe I spoke too soon. It went from the Samsung GSIII logo to the AT&T logo with startup sound after a long time..now it's sitting here at Samsung for..a long time. Maybe I haven't been giving it enough time.
When you use ODIN to flash back to stock, you usually have to boot into stock (not custom) recovery to wipe data and wipe cache. Otherwise the phone sits at the Samsung logo.

So, boot into download mode and that will wipe cache? I'm not sure I understand. And you were right, it hasn't progressed past the samsun logo.
No, boot into the stock recovery mode that comes on the device. Don't flash the stock firmware and then flash cwm in order to wipe data and wipe cache. Just flash stock in ODIN with the auto reboot box unticked, when you get the PASS, unplug, pull battery, replace and immediately press the recovery mode button combo. This will place you in stock (Samsung) recovery. That's when you wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache. Reboot. It will take a few minutes to boot initially

When I went to recovery it showed the android guy with the little gearboxes. I guess that's what I was looking for? It rebooted by itself and now I'm just waiting for it.
Yup, that's what stock recovery looks like. Were you able to wipe data and cache before the reboot?
I rooted the phone, downloaded andromizer, curious on the LCD density tweak, set the lcd density to 380, phone booted, then it stuck on samsung logo. Went to dev mode (volume down), did wipe and factory reset and it went into a series of process up untill "installing applications" with progress bar underneat, and it does nothing and keeps on restarting. What should I do? I tried flash with Odin, it was successful. But still it rebooted then stuck on installing applications then it reboots few times but "installing applications" are still there

Relax mate
if u have successully installed philz recovery then sw of ur phone and press vol. up + home + power button. u will be in the recovery then.
select wipe data / factory reset then clean to install a new rom. select yes
it will clean ur rom for any conflicts with the old rom
after than flash a new rom
search for hurricane rom v5 which is nicely built and having latest version.
download and copy to ur sd card .
then from secovery select install zip
select hurricane rom and it will start the aroma installer .
finish everything and reboot
then the phone should boot successfully.
hope it helps

Hello,
I have a SGH-T989. I recently rooted it and installed cyanogenmod, with gapps and a custom kernel (AOSP UBER KERNEL). I think the kernel is the problem but i dont know how to attack it. Anyways, my phone is stuck on the cyanogenmod boot screen ( Teh one with the circle and cyanogenmod on the inside) and its not frozen, but wont go past that screen. So i tried booting into CWM Recovery, however, when i would i would get that screen as is i didnt have CWM ( the one with the warning about custom software, where u use volume up to continue and then install cwm with odin). So i just opened odin and installed cwm again, but now when i get into cwm, i see all the options, such as reboot system now, install zip from sd, wipe data, wipe ccache, backup, etc. However, i see it for about 5 seconds, then the screen goes black, then cwm comes up again and then repeat. I can go down like one option and then it goes black, then shows the same cwm screen again. Please help! Im a mad noob btw.

I'd suggest to use odin and flash TWRP 2.6.1.0 in download mode, reboot and go into TWRP and do a full advanced wipe, dont wipe preload or it will fail, if you really want to wipe preload, then go into settings and change it to use rm -rf instead of format, shouldnt really need it tho, after wiping just reflash rom/gapps, wipe cache/davilk and reboot.
Thanks for the response. Im sorry but, how do I do that? is download mode the screen you get to when you hold the power button and volume buttons, and then let go of the power button? That screen is CWM for me, and I cant do anything in that mode due to every 5 seconds it stopping and restarting (CWM itself, not the entire phone). Thanks.

Nope that's recovery, to get into download mode and flash TWRP recovery, make sure you have Odin3-v1.85 and the latest Samsung USB Drivers (Win 7/8/XP) and follow the instructions here, just ignore the part about rooting, get TWRP 2.6.1.0 flashed and then follow above posts suggestions.

You should be good, just make sure you didn't lose root access, I saw a post in the dev section with someone saying they lost root after flashing UBER kernel, but that might of just been something they did wrong on their end, not sure.
Hello i'm new here , I own a Samsung S4 mini i9190, recently it starts boot-loop, i haven't installed any roms before that, and it is not rooted
Here's what i tried so far :
Enter recovery by pressing the recovery buttons: erase data / wipe cache : it gives me no commands + error
i used Odin 3 for flashing stock firmwares (i tried 4 so far), it says pass, but soon i enter the recovery for wiping cache and data it goes the same error, and the bootloop starts again without any changes

I tried to install custom-twrp-3.0.3-0-serrano3gxx-STABLE-signed and many different twrps with different odin versions, but as soon as odin 3 finish, and I press the phone's buttons when it vibrates to enter the recovery, I find myself with the same recovery and the same errors; but still I install the stock rom after that twrp, and odin says Pass when nothing passes ! the bootloop and the recovery still in place, nothing ever change ! and I didn't done anything before all of these errors, no root no custom firmware nothing.
Please ! help !
I think I have the same problem here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-mini/help/boot-loop-samsung-gt-i9195-errors-t3596676
but still no solution. No matter what recovery I flash I get the same errors (can't mount, can't format...) and the same boot loop.
I can only flash original firmware and nothing else.
I don't know what to do...
Read somewhere that maybe a problem with the memory getting corrupted (hardware fault) but I don't know.

Hello Yes the recovery says : "no command" when starting it, and when doing erase data/wipe cache it says: "can't mount", "can't format" and finally it says "error" then it reboot in infinite boot-loop
I flashed 5 different firm-wares until now ! without change
Please Help ! tell us at least if it's a hardware failure or not
I don't get "no command" but I get "can't mount", "can't format"...the weird thing is that no matter what recovery i flash (cwm, stock or twrp) after restart I have the previous recovery, in my case CWM 6.05 or something....
Don't know what to do
Please Anyone Help !!

yes...nobody knows what to do...
I did this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1284196 and this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1272595 to check my if it's a hardware problem. For me it's not but you can check also.
I downloaded Odin 3.12.3 and from http://www.tsar3000.com/Joomla/ complete firmware recovery (with bootloader, firmware and all the other files).
I flashed with success but it didn't solved my problem. Still stucked in CWM and the phone still reboots.
Thanks man but still nothing..

Any solution my friend?
I have the same problem. I think the reason is the dead emmc. I tried to make backup immediately after odin flash and got a error while reading of the system partition. Sometimes I got system mount error. It is a strange case, becouse odin does not notice about some errors while firmware writing. Maybe odin writes the system partition without errors check from emmc? And TWRP restores /system from a backup without problems, but reads the partition not always.
