[Q] Problems Importing SMS from XML file - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello
I was wondering if any of you very knowledgeable folk could help me with a problem that I having restoring SMS to my Galaxy S3.
Phone: Unrooted
Software: 4.1.2
I used the Backup option in Go SMS and saved the XML file to my computer. I then used the System Restore facility. After this was complete I transferred the XML file back into the folder as it created when backing up. I reinstalled Go SMS and went to the restore screen within the app but it could not find any back up to restore from.
I have attempted with SMS Backup and Restore which can recognise the XML file but any attempt to restore is unsuccessful.
Successful: 0
Failed: 1847
Failed: 1847
Unfortunately I did not back up to Dropbox or GMail but I know when I open the XML file to view it that the messages are there. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

Restoring from xml files never worked for me either. I always had to use titanium backup.
Perhaps inside the messaging app itself there is an option to import sms from xml file similar to how in the contacts app you can restore your contacts from a backup file ?

I will recommend you this app Super Backup : SMS & Contacts, you can backup your sms, call logs, apps, etc..

Hello
Thanks for the replies.
I managed to figure this out in the end. I was being a fool and just trying to restore from the .xml file Go SMS created. As soon as I tried to restore from the .zip I took the .xml from it all worked perfectly.

[Q] view stored memos on previous nandroid backup?

Hey guys,
asked this question in the wrong section so I'm asking it here.
Is it possible to extract an old nandroid backup to view memos I may have had?
I don't want to restore the backup, I know something in it is wrong as it would freeze on bootup after I tried a restore, that isn't important. What is important is there were memos stored on that backup that I need back.
I used unyaffs to extract system.img, but everytime I try and extract data.img (which is where I'm guessing the memos are stored) I get a popup in windows 7x64 that says unyaffs.exe has stopped working.
I copied data.img off my sdcard and am trying to extract through windows terminal.
Can someone tell me if I am correct in thinking the memos would be stored in the data.img and where they might be located and why I am unable to extract data.img?
Thanks in advance!

Titanium Backup: Restore app data from zip file?

I have downloaded an app + data (so it seems), from a friend. He made a backup for me and told me I could restore it using Titanium Backup.
It's a zip file and it contains a .tar.gz of the data, a .apk.gz (app) and a .properties file.
The .properties file seems to contain Titanium Backup information.
So I assume there should be some way of importing this zip file using Titanium Backup. But I can't find that option.
What I can find is "Backup" (which creates a backup of an app and stores it *somewhere*) and "Restore", where I can't specify a path or anything.
How can I restore the data inside this zip?
Extract that .zip file to /sdcard/TitaniumBackup/ folder. If you installed app which you want to restore go to Titanium Backup app and just restore it :good:

Can someone please help me? I have all of my backed up info on Google Drive from TB. I moved that info from Google to my phone and have tried to batch restore, but it keeps showing 0 files. Please help as I have a lot of apps and data backed up and I don't care to start over. I purchased the TB Pro app for just such an occasion and now I can't use it.

This works indeed.
I selected a batch operation for backing up apps and system data. Downloaded it via the TB Webserver and thought I was okay.
Tried restoring by uploading it to my Nexus via TB Webserver anddd it's gone. Not in the Titanium Backup app, nor to be found on the Nexus with a file browser.
Uploaded the zip manually using an usb cable to the emualted sd andddd no,option in Titanium Backup to say "its here!".
Downloaded an unzip thingie in the Play Store, unzipped the shizzle and let the files in the zip -one level down- being unpacked in the TitaniumBackup folder.
Restarted TB and yay, it can see again. Batch restored everything and... it works. Kinda. Stuck on Swiftkey as we speak. But this is the best I could come up with.
Sigh.
1. Is there any method to update the apk files stored in the zip file with newer version ?
2. How can we delete /update the backup apks with newer version?

There may be a better way to do this, but somewhere in Preference you can tell it how many backups to keep. I think the default is "All". Set it to 1 and that should do the trick.

[Help] Can't restore default Samsung Gallery system app..

I accidentally uninstalled the default Samsung Gallery app using Titanium Backup. I had a backup, but the backup failed to restore using titanium backup.
I also tried to re-add the contents to the Systems/App directory using root explorer, but that failed too. I think the folder was supposed to be called ScGallery2015 or something..? Can someone check their Systems/App directory and see what the folder is called and what it should have? If you could even send me those files that would be great. :crying:
Any help is appreciated.

Can someone upload the SecGallery2015 contents? Including with whatever is inside the Arm64 folder.

Any way to edit the SMS backup file?

I had an issue and lost some of my texts stored in Onedrive but had a recent backup however it always fails before completion due to the number of messages. It seems the file can be read as an XML file so I wonder if that makes it possible to be edited so I can split the messages and restore in smaller chunks. Any possible solution? Thanks.
contacts*messages backup cant do the job?

No, it's the output file i want to edit, the app just dumps everything into one file.

Possible to copy mmssms.db from twrp backup?

I recently switched from one Sense based ROM to a different Sense based ROM. However, I forgot to backup my text messages before wiping data and flashing new ROM but I did do a backup in TWRP prior to flashing. I have been able to extract the backuped system and data files to my PC and I have located the mmssms.db. Does anyone know if I can just simply copy that db file to the appropriate location on the current system? Are there other files that need to accompany the db file if this is possible?
I will attempt to do this while I await a response here. I will backup the current system before I do.
Thanks!
**UPDATE**
I was able to copy all the SMS and MMS db files from my twrp backup and replace them in the data folder of the system and all is well. All my old messages are in the app as if they were never gone.
If anyone needs help with this topic, just post a reply here and I can assist.
