This is the forum of the newer version of the Kindle Fire HD from Q3 2013 and beyond correct? The sub-forums are a bit cluttered... just trying to get some research done before getting my device later in the month, but want to make sure I'm in the right section or do I want the 7' HD section.
Thanks!
There isn't exactly a sub forum for the new 2013 models, but just to clarify so far we only have root access on those. No ROMs yet like cm because of the locked bootloader. Closer area to post would be in the hdx forum but I have seen some posts in the general and the respective size HD model sub forum. Unless you did mean the hdx, because there is a sub forum for the hdx.

Hello i just bought myself a new kindle fire 10.2.3 and i dont know how to root/install custom recovery.
I looked at the rom development section but it was for the old version (6.x) so now im asking you dear fellow users .
Any help woud be greatly apreciated
You cannot install a custom rom on the kindle fire second edition. The bios forbids it. Yes, Amazon did this deliberately.

But you can root kindle fire 2 andinstall google play, can't u?
Part of the problem you're running into, is you are in the wrong forum. For Q&A on the 2nd Generation Kindle Fire, go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1782
And yes, you can root it and install many Google Apps.
Hi guys,
I have a problem with free RAM on CM10.1/SGT7 latest ROM for Kindle Fire.Alot of games are crashing on JB due to lake of RAM while it is working just fine on stock ROM.I know that JB requires more RAM but is there anyway to minimize RAM used for JB ? I got about 260 MB free on stock while the maximum on JB is 200 MB (after killing launcher app while game is launching !!)
I have also tried swap which made some games works but it was terribly slow and I have heard it affects your memory on long term.
I know those replies already-please don't post it again ! ( impossible request/a noob dreaming!/this is your device maximum abilities,Face it !/go back to stock! ) and so.
I have also heard about moving cache to SD using A2SD but I don't know how it works?/Is it really useful?/Will it be harmful like swap ?
Really appreciate positive replies and waiting for XDA geniuses help here ! (They already helped me to get a lot from my Kindle Fire already!)
Ok first of all, why did you create a thread when you posted this in the rom thread?
Second, this should be in Q&A
ANYBODY THINKING OF POSTING. IS IT A QUESTION? ARE YOU PUTTING A [Q] IN THE TITLE? DO YOU NEED HELP? DO YOU HAVE A REQUEST? IT BELONGS IN THE Q&A SECTION, NOT IN GENERAL.
All question threads will be moved.

Not trying to be mean, just trying to reduce the number of threads and repessted things here. Also trying to inform people of where certain things are supposed to go

Although I agree with gold flame, to your question: you can stop this by using apps like greenify that will hibernate apps when not in use making more RAM. Another option you have is to revoke a apps permissions, but unless your a Noob you don't want to mess with permissions since that might cause FCs.

Thanks! Was looking for this
Ok, so this thread has gone completely off topic.
Now, we don't mind a little fun at times, but how about some of you actually doing a little help?
Oh.... also, linking to commercial sites (depending on nature) is considered spam, and against XDA rules.
So those of you linking, and replying with the link, consider yourself getting a 5 point infraction for spreading Spam. Especially spam that is not accurate.
Everybody knows you can only download ram 1 byte at a time............
Joke.... Now stop posting off topic please.

So i'm just tired of the amazon custom interface of the Kindle Fire, and wanted to know if it is possible to root the device wit this system version.
Look at the thread by donalgodon that's probably right below yours, answers the same questions. Short answer is yes though. Look at the other thread for details.

I rooted my device many moons ago(maybe 2 years ago) and have an old version Cynaogen mod. I want to update the rom to the latest available that is very stable an fast. All I care for is the internet and beign able to play boom beach
Is there an easy tutorial on upgrading the roms
Search in the 8.9 Development Forum. There are multiple ROMs to choose from there.

Indeed, but very little in the way of tutorials as requested by the OP.
The ROMs install the same way. The difference is in their features which are usually broken out in the OP for that ROM. As for performance, read through the threads to see user issues and experiences.
I believe that teaching a noob to fish (read the forums) and figure things out is more valuable than handing them the solution and having to deal with multiple posts about how they bricked their device because they could not be bothered to read and exert some effort to learn.

I agree that there is some merit in your approach, however many procedures are outdated or no longer apply. It is a minefield trying to find the sequence required for a given ROM.
