In a bit of a pickle.
No matter what I do, my system status is always modified.
I've unrooted with TA, flashed stock, then wiped cache, wipe data, and wipe cache.
It shows normal the first boot.
Then when it restarts, it's modified again.
Suggestions?

You have to do a data/factory reset in settings/backup and restore mate. That should fix it.
Tried that, still modified.
Get it rooted again. Install triangle away and use it. Then flash stock rom via odin, wipe cache/data and factory reset. Viola!
Thats what I did and it worked.

That's the steps I went through.
Are there any special steps I need before I flash via Odin?
Just TA?
Does it still show Normal after a restart?
Cos for me, it's shows Normal, and just after one reboot, it's automagically modified.
Try to factory reset again. I did it twice

Done that loads of times.
As soon as I restart device, it shows modified.
I need to claim warranty, which is why I need it normal normal normal.
Could it be a problem of the stock firmware?
Does anyone know the CSC of the unlocked version of the N7100?
a friend of mine wanted to claim warranty at o2 in Leeds but couldn't due to device modified. He raised hell but the store wouldn't budge. One of the store sales people asked him if he had insurance, he had.. puked him to one side pretending to calm him down, and told him to go home, or coffee over the phone and come back tomorrow to claim insurance for a new phone.
My friend went back, did that.. and the store salesguy have him another phone under insurance.
My friend could b real lucky and might not work for u. For obvious reasons he won't tell me the name of the kind understanding fellow. But he left a letter of compliment for the sales guy good service.

I would do that, but won't accept a refurbished device over my new one.
If only they give new replacements.
Anyway, I finally got it back to Normal.
I used Kies to restore it, and it's on Normal no matter how many times I restart.
I think I just needed to reflash it twice to get it back to Normal.
We'll see what they say today, as I went in yesterday, and they somehow said my CSC isn't valid... wtf.
Apologies if not relevant...
...but my brand new, sealed box Vodafone N-7100 shows "Modified" until I remove the SD card, at which point it show "Unmodified" and allows update check etc. but as soon as I put in the SD card again.
I was panicking that it had been rooted or something but I think it's just a weird software bug. I found a guy in a forum mentioning the SD card thing and sure enough it fixed it for me.
My SD card is 64GB, formatted as exFAT by the phone itself, incidentally.
Anyone else having this problem with a 100% stock, unrooted, unhacked phone?
U mean if u insert a 64gb sdcard formatted to exfat or will show modified? That's weird. Lucky I use 32gb cards
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Hi,
Yes that's exactly right. I haven't actually tried formatting FAT32 to see if it has the same issue. Also I haven't tried other SD cards - I've only had the phone a short while.
I used to use the same SD card in my Galaxy S2 with no issues.

I have the same issue with a T-Mobile (US) version. Removing the 64GB exFAT micro SD card and rebooting causes the device status to change from Modified to Normal. Reinserting the micro SD card causes the device status to show as Modified. Is the only fix to format the SD card as FAT32?

I haven't tried it either. The issue still exists following the T-Mobile system update that I just installed today. I was able to install the update with the SD card removed.
Ok, I'm at my Wit's end. Although i don't post to the forums much, i am not a noob.
Basically yesterday i stopped getting service on my galaxy nexus i9520 Maguro.
I did not flash any roms/Kernel/Radios in the 24 hours before that.
My sim card works fine in every other phone (android or otherwise) as i've tested it (Sms/calls/everything working fine). Now here's the catch, Every other sim card works fine in my phone too. So basically my phone won't work with only my sim card but my sim card works with every other phone.
I had a working nandroid backup which didn't fix the problem upon restore. I clean wiped roms, flashed clean roms, kernels and i even reflashed the radios....absolutely nothing works.
Someone got a clue as to what's going on here?
Edit: Ok, so i'm not sure if this is relevant or not but when i use my not working sim card and restart the phone, Superuser always says that binary is outdated. Could it be causing the issue?
You might want to check with your carrier and see if your phone has been erroneously blacklisted as a stolen phone. Also might check that your efs partition is undamaged, and your imei number is unchanged. That's all I can think of.

Hi guys, i have been using a ROOTED galaxy note 2 for quite some time now. my phone has been running on the jellybean 4.1.1 version, i decided to manually update to jellybean 4.1.2 with odin (through laptop) all went ok and i managed to upgrade properly. The problem i am having is that once i rebooted my phone (after update) i have been getting an error saying to insert my sim card....it will not recognize there is any simcard whatsoever. Also when i put thw sim card in another phone it works fine and i am able to receive texts etc. Can anyone please offer me some help as my phone is a massive part of my job (as i work on a client basis), and do not have the time to send my phone away for 2 weeks. Any insight would be awesome im up for trying anything. Thanks again! Kes

I clicked the factory reset and the clear cache options (using the up and down volume buttons). My phone has now restarted asif it was brand new out the box, yet the sim card is still not working (and yes i took the sim out for the reset, only put it back in after i did the initial setup). Have i done something wrong?? did i not do a full reset? could someone please help as i havnt had my work phone for a few days now and its getting harder to keep track of my clients. Any suggestions would be amazing, thanks a lot!

The latest rom modifies the efs folder (where your imei is stored) so only some modems can read it. For unknown reason kies or ota updates don't modify the efs, so the new rom can't use the efs info. The solution is to flash back to an older rom other than dme4/dme6. Your sim will be recognized. I advise you to backup your esf folder and to awlays ve a copy of it

Dude first thing is check if your Imei is corrupt. Go to about device/status and if it starts with 0049, this means it's corrupt and without a backup Samsung are the only ones who can fix as they have to replace the motherboard. If it is corrupt you could try moving your efs to SD card and then rebooting and then moving it back.

Hey guys,
I messed up.. I flashed a modem for the updated version of S3RX, not my current version (4.2.1) and that resulted in a pretty hardcore brick. The only response its giving is the red light with the charger plugged in and battery removed, as well as the QHUSB_DL message on the computer when connected.
I tried imaging a debrick image onto a SD card, and doing that but it didn't work but I'll outline what I did anyway just encase I'm doing it wrong.
1. Using Patriot LX 32gb MicroSDHC card
2. Imaged a debrick file another user provided from their phone (4.2.1) using win32imager
3. Put the SD card in, no battery, power cord removed
4. Put battery in
5. Did button combination for download mode
6. Phone didn't respond
So is there anything else I can try or do I need to get someone to jtag it for me :/

Can you try it with a 16GB card? Ive had some people report failure(except one) with cards larger than 16GB and thus far everyone who has tried it with a 16GB have been succesful. (that I am aware of or atleast the ones who didnt flash a bootloader from a different device model)
Also I was told by -Mr. X- who is where I learned of this process that sometimes you may have to flash the IMG file on the sd card several times and try to access download mode several times before you obtain success.

I have a 32gb one, I'd have to buy a 16gb but I'm more than willing to do that
So when you say flash the IMG file on the sd card several times, do you literally mean do it once, twice, ect.. all in a row?? Because I've only been doing that once each time. I have tried the second part of what you were saying though, I did try many accessing download mode at least seven times

Is it possible you flashed the 4.3 bootloader? Perhaps something in the modem file is preventing the phone from debrick in with the older file? Okay, so I was in disk management to format the SD card so I could start fresh and the imagine file you linked, but I noticed like 14 partitions on it (That werent there before I should add).. GET a copy of mini partition wizard from here http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html Delete all the partitions on it then try to flash the .IMG file again.
when you get ready to use it in the phone again delete all partitions the phone will recognize it as unformatted and prompt you to format it.
when you write The .IMG file it formats and partitions the card to mirror the phones internal sd card.
Same boat
Hey guys! This seems like quite a coincidence to me, but last night I was flashing a new ROM and now my phone is doing the exact same thing as YUMZ. So, I just wanted to say thanks (YUMZ for getting this thread started and theramsey3 for providing the help). I really hope you get this figured out. YUMZ, have you tried using odin3? In v1.83 (only v1.83) I get a yellow com signal from the phone, but when trying to use it, it always hangs at SetupConnection. I don't know if this helps any.

I have a AT&T GS3 running Packman Rom, one day i was updating my rom, data was working fine and after i flashed the update i had no data connection, so i restored from a back up before the rom update and same thing no data, so i restored my phone with ODIN using the default ROM, still no data. So i restored from the backup again and found out i had no APN's in the APN settings area. So i tried restoring defaults, nothing happens it says "defaults restored" or something along those lines and nothing shows up, when i try setting my own APN with the right stuff and i save still nothing there. Any ideas on how to fix? I have downloaded some apps to manage the APN's but they don't work on android 4.0 +.
Sounds to me like your IMEI is gone. Check in setting>about phone>status>IMEI number. If it doesnt show one, then its corrupt. You'll have to look around on the forum for fixes tho, I'm unfamiliar with it. When/if you do get it fixed, make sure you keep a backup in case it happens again.

Check to make sure the imei matches the one on the sticker under the battery. While you're at it, remove the sim card and reboot. Wait a minute or two, shut down and reinsert your sim and power back on.
Have you factory reset at all since this has occurred?

Having the same issue on Beanstalk, I've done everything I can find, and still no luck fixing the APN setting to receive data, but can make and receive calls
No idea if this'll work with non tw ROMs, but try replacing the apns-conf.xml with this one.

Rename old one in case you want to revert. Remove the .txt from this one.
