[Q] No service - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Ok, I'm at my Wit's end. Although i don't post to the forums much, i am not a noob.
Basically yesterday i stopped getting service on my galaxy nexus i9520 Maguro.
I did not flash any roms/Kernel/Radios in the 24 hours before that.
My sim card works fine in every other phone (android or otherwise) as i've tested it (Sms/calls/everything working fine). Now here's the catch, Every other sim card works fine in my phone too. So basically my phone won't work with only my sim card but my sim card works with every other phone.
I had a working nandroid backup which didn't fix the problem upon restore. I clean wiped roms, flashed clean roms, kernels and i even reflashed the radios....absolutely nothing works.
Someone got a clue as to what's going on here?
Edit: Ok, so i'm not sure if this is relevant or not but when i use my not working sim card and restart the phone, Superuser always says that binary is outdated. Could it be causing the issue?

You might want to check with your carrier and see if your phone has been erroneously blacklisted as a stolen phone. Also might check that your efs partition is undamaged, and your imei number is unchanged. That's all I can think of.

Checked with carrier. No problem on their end.
Had a NANDROID of the efs too. Even restoring that didn't work.

Try getting a replacement sim?

Maybe I'm a bit late, but what does 'adb logcat -b radio' show?

[SOLVED] Phone stuck on EDGE:2

went to bed last night with 4g speeds and everything...turned phone on this morning and now im stuck on EDGE:2 and i just cant get it back to regular hspa+....can anyone lend a hand?? been like this all day and its driving me crazy
EDIT/SOLVED: idk how but it fixed it right up...back in july when the whole IMEI scare was going on,i waited until Peoplearmy released a way to back up and restore the IMEI. All though i didnt have a IMEI problem i was dealing with a random data loss problem and the restore method said it could fix that too. yesterday i tried to restore 7 qnc backup files i previously made( made one for each new modem released and then used the generate qnc option just to be sure) and NONE OF THEM WORKED! 10 minutes ago, i realized that i never tried restoring the very very first qnc back up on my phone; i was busy restoring all the newer versions. so i restored that very first qnc back up i ever made, rebooted the phone and now i get HSPDA with my first speed test resulting in 18mbps! i think a tear came from my eye! this issue drove me crazy all day yesterday so to those who never made a qnc back up on your phone i suggest you DO IT NOW....never know if you wake up one day and just lose your 4g data, like me.
Sounds like you lost your IMEI. Check out this thread:

i have my IMEI...i know all about the IMEI issue and that dosent seem to be the problem im having...imei is in intact, i can text and call but I just cant get pas EDGE:2
i was stock on edge also but i did lose IMEI , if you have a NV backup maybe try to restore it or maybe try a different modem.
Does it stay this way when you go to a different area? You may want to call tmobile, they're doing a lot of work all over their network and it could be an issue with the tower.
Try putting it to wcdma preferred/only and see if that helps. Dialer code *#4636#

YOU Sir are Awesome. Had the same issue and had tried a few of the peoplearmy qnc's as well. I was just about to re-ODIN my S3 as the next step when I came across this thread.... I had never tried my original qnc either, and when I did it worked like a champ! Thanks so much for pointing out something that should have been so obvious to me.! :good::good::good:
currently using the resources i found in this thread.
thanks for the OP. and thanks for the links.....im still working mine out....pretty sure i lost IMEI due to the ODEX app in the FrostyJB rom i just installed......
I am sure this will get worked out and ill post my experiance as well...
OP, did you just notice slower speeds or was your phone stuck on E? I rooted last night and notice slower speeds.

Can someone help me get my 4G restored? I lost my imei number ( was set to 0), I was able to use nv_items_reader_writer along with the SGS3 nv gen to inject my correct imei number back into the phone.
I have checked under status and my imei is no longer 0 & displays the correct imei, but still no 4G - only edge.
I then made a full nv backup, then restored that backup, but still nothing.
Lastly, I have even tried going into the hidden menus that take you into the phone setup/network setup & that did not work.
I am on the stock rooted rom (root66)
I did not have a original nv backup, hence why I am here lol
any other ideas?

I also have this problem on my LG Optimus g (e970) this is the attached version but I'm on T-Mobile. I have rooted and am running a debloated stock ROM. I have never lost my imei info but I had to make some APN files to get my data to work. I can get 4g to work by restarting the phone and then I have 4g until I lose it and then its locked on to edge. I don't believe I have ever seen the 3g symbol either.

I seriously doubt there's anything that we could do for your problem. The tools we have to work with the IMEI and nv items have only worked for the S3 for me. Tried on several other Samsung models with no success.
Plus if it were to work on your device you'd already have had backups created. Like the OP said, he had to restore the original backup he had made before his problem ever occupied.
Have you tried flashing back to stock? Have you considered that with all the network upgrades T-Mobile has done that maybe the changes you made before to make it work are no longer valid? Have you called T-Mobile to make sure it's not a tower problem on their side?
Also, it's completely normal to never see 3g in the status bar...at least for our S3's anyway.

For people with this issue in the future, don't worry about posting, just PM me directly and you'll get a quicker response most of the time. Include the following in your PM
Device model
Current Rom
Current status (imei restored or not. Any other related issues)
How was the imei initially lost
Need to know this so I know what you will need.

System Status always Modified.

In a bit of a pickle.
No matter what I do, my system status is always modified.
I've unrooted with TA, flashed stock, then wiped cache, wipe data, and wipe cache.
It shows normal the first boot.
Then when it restarts, it's modified again.
Suggestions?

You have to do a data/factory reset in settings/backup and restore mate. That should fix it.
Tried that, still modified.
Get it rooted again. Install triangle away and use it. Then flash stock rom via odin, wipe cache/data and factory reset. Viola!
Thats what I did and it worked.

That's the steps I went through.
Are there any special steps I need before I flash via Odin?
Just TA?
Does it still show Normal after a restart?
Cos for me, it's shows Normal, and just after one reboot, it's automagically modified.
Try to factory reset again. I did it twice

Done that loads of times.
As soon as I restart device, it shows modified.
I need to claim warranty, which is why I need it normal normal normal.
Could it be a problem of the stock firmware?
Does anyone know the CSC of the unlocked version of the N7100?
a friend of mine wanted to claim warranty at o2 in Leeds but couldn't due to device modified. He raised hell but the store wouldn't budge. One of the store sales people asked him if he had insurance, he had.. puked him to one side pretending to calm him down, and told him to go home, or coffee over the phone and come back tomorrow to claim insurance for a new phone.
My friend went back, did that.. and the store salesguy have him another phone under insurance.
My friend could b real lucky and might not work for u. For obvious reasons he won't tell me the name of the kind understanding fellow. But he left a letter of compliment for the sales guy good service.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I would do that, but won't accept a refurbished device over my new one.
If only they give new replacements.
Anyway, I finally got it back to Normal.
I used Kies to restore it, and it's on Normal no matter how many times I restart.
I think I just needed to reflash it twice to get it back to Normal.
We'll see what they say today, as I went in yesterday, and they somehow said my CSC isn't valid... wtf.
Apologies if not relevant...
...but my brand new, sealed box Vodafone N-7100 shows "Modified" until I remove the SD card, at which point it show "Unmodified" and allows update check etc. but as soon as I put in the SD card again.
I was panicking that it had been rooted or something but I think it's just a weird software bug. I found a guy in a forum mentioning the SD card thing and sure enough it fixed it for me.
My SD card is 64GB, formatted as exFAT by the phone itself, incidentally.
Anyone else having this problem with a 100% stock, unrooted, unhacked phone?
U mean if u insert a 64gb sdcard formatted to exfat or will show modified? That's weird. Lucky I use 32gb cards
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Hi,
Yes that's exactly right. I haven't actually tried formatting FAT32 to see if it has the same issue. Also I haven't tried other SD cards - I've only had the phone a short while.
I used to use the same SD card in my Galaxy S2 with no issues.

I have the same issue with a T-Mobile (US) version. Removing the 64GB exFAT micro SD card and rebooting causes the device status to change from Modified to Normal. Reinserting the micro SD card causes the device status to show as Modified. Is the only fix to format the SD card as FAT32?

[Q] Tmo T999 No 4G

Hello,
Obviously from my posts I'm new posting, however, I've been reading the forums for a while now and have been a huge fan at the massive support of devs and other helpful people. My question, and I've tried searching hi and lo on this site and others to get an answer:
I rooted my phone about 2 months ago and kept ROM, kernel, etc. stock until about 1 month ago when I flashed CM 10.1. Everything was awesome, loved the layout and the customization of the ROM. About 2 weeks ago, I lost 4G/H+ coverage, and voice service was sometimes spottier than usual. Wifi was and is still fine, but anytime I left and wifi network, I was immediately given EDGE speeds. I ran speedtest.net and the display is accurate.
I tried searching a couple of sites and I read that flashing a different ROM could fix the issue. I flashed Wicked which again was a great layout, but didn't fix the 4G issue. Lastly, today I followed an unroot thread and unrooted my phone. I didn't reset my counter with triangle away because I didn't think that was an issue in the lack of 4G. And I didn't want to dig myself any deeper on possibly bricking my phone. So now, my phone is stock (minus the counter) with ROM, kernel, and recovery. Any tips or suggestions?
Something to note: When I tried flashing CM10.1 the very first time, I received an error 7 message on CWM recovery. After reading a couple of posts on here, it looked like the workaround was to remove the first line of code on the updater-script file in the zip. Doing so made the ROM flash without any hiccups. Or were there?
Again thanks in advance for taking the time to read my post.

Its not really bad, but its not great. It means you lost your imei, it just happens randomly when flashing a ROM (no one knows why, it just rarely happens). Its not the ROMs fault, it just happens.
If you haven't made a backup of your imei, then you'll have to restore/inject the imei so that you can use 4g again. I'll have to look for the threads that explain how to do that and I'll post them for you.

I wouldn't worry bout it. Unless you get lucky it can take a lot of searching and piecing info together to find all that's needed. Imei restoration can still be found, but a lot isn't too clear. Data restore after imei restoration is not so easy.

And thank you too Doc! I'll post my results in case anyone else has this problem. I'm certain this will work. Thanks for the future reach-out invite as well.
Hey Doc, does everything in the video I posted restore 4g or does it just restore the imei? If it doesn't restore 4g, could you please post here or pm what steps are needed to get 4g going again?
I would just like to have a copy of everything just in case something goes wrong with my imei backup, If I end up losing my imei.

Awesome! Glad you got it working again.
Next thing is to create s n on-device backup of your nv data. This should only need to be done once, as you can't delete or overwrite it with common methods. It is also preventative so you shouldn't ever see this issue again.
Two methods
1. Install Andromizer and backup nv data
2. Install and open Terminal Emulator and enter this:
su
reboot nvbackup
That's it. Your phone will reboot and create the back up. If you do ever need to restore just enter this:

Well, Success!!! Needed to do a couple more things but both of you were able to get me back up and running on 4G.
Dakine - Already got the video, so thank you anyways.
Doc - Finished those steps, for some reason I can't PM you so if you can PM me again to let me know what I need to do avoid this in the future, as I'd love to go back to a rooted phone.
Thanks again guys!

What were the "couple more things"? My IMEI was wiped when I installed CWM and I had no signal showing at all. I have restored my IMEI and it now connects to Edge but it does not connect to 4G as it did. My wife's phone still gets a good 4G connection so I think it is the phone. I have tried wiping it, installing Cyanogen and have now reverted to Samsung factory UVDMD5. Everything about the phone seems to work great except it has no 4G. Tried changing APN type and forcing WCDMA -- no luck
Thanks!

Low 2g and 3g but no 4g
I also can never get 4G in the metro. Even right next to somebody with the exact same phone and same T-mobile service who gets it fine.. I had flashed Synergy ROM and now S3Rx (stock kernel) but no improvement. My IMEI is valid, the Mobile Network type is shown as: GPRS:1. It shows the APN as T-Mobile USA (epc.tmobile.com). Baseband version is: T999UVDMD5.
I don't know anything else to check. Sure would like some ideas.
Test with someone else's SIM card. Or call T-Mobile as it sounds like it may be an account issue. Odin back to stock. If it still continues, it could also be hardware.

Hello Doc, I tried to pm you, but never received a reply, maybe my message is blocked.
I hope you can help me find cure for my phone!
After regular update of CM 10.2. using CWM my phone stopped connecting to 3g and 4g, I checked with T-Mobile and no problems on their end. I thought it was a failed upgrade reinstalled CM 10.2, didn't help. Then I totally reformatted Internal Storage and Installed LiquidSmooth 2.3.7, same thing, only EDGE data. Then I thought maybe I have to unroot and go back to Stock, and this time unrooted, upgraded baseband to the latest version, then installed Stock JB 4.3 but it didn't fix my problem. Then I came across this info about missing IMEIs, and there it was IMEI was showing Unknown at one point and now it is showing 0. I tried to follow some guides about nv_data.bin but my EFS folder doesn't seem to contain that file, it actually doesn't have more than that when compared to other user's screenshots.
At this point I rooted my phone again using TWRP with SU and De-knox and installed CM 10.2.0. Still EDGE only and IMEI showing 0.
Please, help! I can email screenshot of About Phone Status Page and EFS folder if you need.
Thanks!

Doc,
I just purchased a T999 on eBay with this same problem. When I got the phone, it had CM installed on it and had no IMEI (IMEI=0). I put it back to stock 4.1.2, still no IMEI. I did IMEI repair using Z3X box which worked, now IMEI is normal. Problem is that it always stays on EDGE network. I'm sure this is something to to with the phone and not something else. I have a couple of other T999's available to use to test SIM card, location, etc. and all other T999's I've tried work just fine. Only this one that I had to restore IMEI.
Can you please give me some advice?

[Q] huge problem, need help

this morning I got unfourtunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped and cannot get the phone to boot without constantly hitting the "OK"
I see there is no signal, and can see in the phone information that the radio is turned off. I have an app that used to get to the screen but now it hangs due to the phone has stopped issue.
Is there any way I can turn the radio on by using some code with the dialer pad?
I have tried recovering 3 other nand backups, but none work. all have the same result.
Thanks for any help someone might be able to give me!
It is a rooted samsung galaxy s4 M919 from t-mobile
is it stock rooted or what ROM are you running ?what kernel? what settings ? what mods? we need some detail sir but for starters if you can get it to boot try *#2263# and if its not set to automatic try clicking your options auto is the default setting

Remove your sd card sim card and battery let set 10 minutes put back in see if the message is still present if so you might need a new sim card.

I have tried both of the above suggestions and no joy!
I have 2 nandroid backups that were done when the phone was working fine, and recovering either one has the very same symptoms.
I'm not sure that all the phone is backed up or restored in entirety, unless there it a hardware fault in this phone. It's 31 days old today..... :<(
if anyone else has any ideas, I'm all ears!
Thanks!
Might just be a lemon. I would just flash back to stock then take the phone and get a replacement.

You still have given us no details on what you are running, stock, rooted, touchwiz, aosp. Do you know how to Odin back to stock? Sounds to me what happens when you flash a modem not meant for the phone.

Odin back to stock I would think should alleviate your problem. I flashed an international modem when I was running omega rom and got flash happy when I was drunk. Had the exact same problem you are describing odin to stock worked for me

Yo Tyler!
I was not drunk nor did I flash anything, it was going fine and suddenly, poof!,,,,,
Anyway, I tried your suggestion and IT WORKED! I also saw, (I don't know how/why) all my apps being installed automatically!
Well, almost all anyway. I had to install only maybe 3 apps, and that was all. Even my keyboard configuration that I made lots of cosmetic changes to- via the apps setup, was like I had set it up as... Weird, but great for me!
Thanks for your suggestion. It's quite odd, as one of the nandroid backups was made using the exact rom image that I used to Odin back to stock....
Nevertheless, as the Hawaiians say, MAHALO NUI LOA! Tyler No Ka OI (Tyler is the best)
Aloha...
Glad I could help. The modem isn't in your back up that's why back ups won't fix this problem. As for apps, it's from syncing your Google account. Aloha

The SIM card holders on Zen 2 are pooh !
I can count on one hand how many times I removed my SIM in 15 months and my holder has knackered.
Now, I push SIM to where it should lay in the holder, then run cellotape over it...Then keep pushing and sticking it till it's gives a signal.
All's fine n dandy after
I think it is well mount into the slot. Two slots are not responding. It keeps showing not installed.
I cant figure out what problem it is.

Have you recently restored a backup or flashed your phone? When this has happened to me I had to hard reset and reflash fresh rom then my sim was recognized again

You may a hardware issue but this is i would handle it before looking at hardware problem.
1. Do a hard reset
2. Download fresh rom from ASUS website, rename it to SD_CARDUPDATE and place in the root of your sd card
3. Reboot. To recovery and it should start update automatically
4.Flash a full rom,

Things go worser
I have followed your steps and keep trying the sims in every steps but it is not work.
Now I stuck on flashing a new rom.
I have installed twrp recovery and wiped the phone. Then when I connect the phone to my pc, pc keeps saying 'Unknown USB Device (Device descriptor request failed)' whatever I use sideload or fastboot mode. Also I cannot mount otg or MicroSD so now it is dead. What should I do?
