Look into mobile Odin. It injects root into stock flashable Roms.

Yes you can, and here's what you need.
First download the stock odin tar that has a rooted system image injected into it:

New Image Based off ATT I747UCALG1
This one is completely stock, just root-injected.

I followed this guide but substituted the latest version of Odin in place of the suggested version. The key for me was to pull the battery. This most likely will trip your counter but you can use the triangle away app to clear it.
I was just concerned because my Baseband Version is "I747UCLH9" and the download is "I747UCALG1"
If you didn't get it rooted yet go to rootgalaxys3.com for full instructions if u just want to to root and stay on stock that's how it begins I am very new to this but I highly recommend it. doubt after root u would stay on stock he even has his own rom, based off stock nice rom for those who like touchwiz.

This.
I can't find anything on XDA saying that I can flash the UCALG1 over the OTA update that gave us UCLH9 without hassle. I guess no one has the HCLH9 version root injected yet? Or am I missing something here. If anyone could shed some light on this that would be great, thank you.
You can flash cwm from Odin reboot into recovery flash su and enjoy . Oh and use triangle away to reset the counter.

This is the best way. Flashing root-injected LG1 requires doing a factory reset and then updating to LH9 again.
Here's a post with details about this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32218479

I think that H9 is more a fix 'ish up patch than a full rom. It is a lot smaller file size
I was recently asked to post some threads here on XDA with the tutorials I have on my site. As time permits I will be posting a series of threads here to the Q&A section that will hopefully answer most questions that might come up.
If you can't find your answer in one of my threads I would highly recommend BluesRulez One Stop FAQ Thread. It is an awesome resource and has answers to just about every question I've seen come up!

This thread details the process of how to root your device without having to flash a full stock ROM. This method works for the Sprint, Boost and Virgin Samsung Galaxy S2 (SPH-D710, SPH-D710BST and SPH-D710VMUB).
This method uses an Odin One-Click Kernel to install a kernel that includes a Custom Recovery. Once booted into the Custom Recovery you can then flash Superuser which will root your phone and give you Superuser access.
Prerequisites:
A PC running Windows with the Samsung Mobile Drivers Installed. The Samsung Mobile Drivers are available here.
Any One-Click Kernel (preferably from the Android version you will be using, i.e. GB, ICS or JB).
All Sprint One-Click Recovery kernels can be found here.
For this particular tutorial I used the following kernels:
Gingerbread: Chris41g's EL26 Stock CWM5 Repack
Ice Cream Sandwich: Agat63's tFI27 Stock Recovery Repack (rev 2)
Jelly Bean: Agat63's Source-Built GB27 Recovery
Superuser (or SuperSU, MIUI Security, and etc) in a flashable zip, saved on your Internal or External SD Card. For this method I used SuperSU v1.25 (but any SU in a flashable ZIP should work). You can download several different versions here.
Although not required it is recommended that you have Samsung Kies installed on your PC as well. You can download Samsung Kies here.
Side-Effects:
This method will trigger the Yellow Triangle upon start-up and will increase your Odin count.
It will also change your startup screen to look like the International GS2 startup screen.
Both of these side-effects are very easy to overcome due to the hard work of Chainfire and Garwynn. You can get TriangleAway from Chainfire's thread here.
For the rest of the tutorial please visit my site: www.rwilco12.com
Enjoy!

Will any of these methods work with FL24? I'm new to rooting Samsungs and am used to simply rooting via exploits through ADB. I have the phone rooted (temp rooted?) via the exploit in Framaroot and am trying to get a custom recovery installed next to flash a ROM. Thanks!

The Kernel One-Click flashes the kernel and recovery together. They are combined on the E4GT.

You might have to turn SU on depending on which version you flashed. Open the app and see if under settings you see something like "Enable SuperUser" and make sure it's enabled.
If that doesn't fix it we may need to try another zip with a different set of symlinks. Either way, we're here for you and will get you squared away.

If you're asking - Can I flash VM builds on the Sprint D710, the answer is - yes. Did it when I tested the builds and everything worked properly.
If you're asking - Can I flash a VM build and be on VM service? Obviously you'll need to be activated to their service and provisioned properly. That's when you'd need to make sure that mmsc/apn/nv data is captured. I don't know if VM is a byod provider. (write that shiz down)

Yes. Many, many people have used this method successfully.
There's nothing wrong with a stock kernel, it just doesn't have a custom recovery packed into it or any kernel tweaks.
But I am confused... If you're already rooted why are you pulling your hair out?

K. Before you dive in too much further I would recommend doing a little more research. This device had had issues in the past that have made it very easy to brick. You should be very careful.
As a side note - This thread is a how to root thread but it sounds like you're already rooted. I don't know that there's any reason to reroot your device. You don't actually have to be rooted to get on JB either. You could just flash a one-click of a JB ROM.
First of all, I want to thank the community for all the help I have received on XDA, already. I have been a member since 2009 and have flashed many different phones and roms. This is my first post only because the forum has been so helpful that I have not needed to post here before. Google and the search button have helped me alot
My situation is probably different than most out there. I did the OTA update of 4.3 and broke my root and set of the Knox counter. I intially bricked my phone, but was able to get it back to 4.2 using the file from this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542036 While reading this thread I noticed this post about the "unbrick.tar" file that I loaded via Odin "Yes, flash that file in Odin, it will downgrade you to MC2 with the MK4bootloader"
Since then I have been on many different ROMs including the new KitKat rom and others. Each Rom has given me an issue with Data. Carbon and the stock roms having working 3g and no LTE, while other roms dont have any data at all. (Note: I always wipe my device like recommended)
I recently wiped my device and loaded this rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2541395 3g is working great, but once again no 4g.
Troubleshooting:
I have tried removing knox manually by these instructions. I do not see any of these files on my device.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540781
I have also tried to flash the 4.1 MC2 stock rom via Odin, but this fails because Knox is still on my device.
Follow the instructions from here and you should be good, it means another wipe but after that you should get 4g without the knox:

I appreciate the quick response. However if you read my OP, I am currently on this ROM. Everything is working except LTE. I still have KNOX, but i cannot find any files when I follow the removal instructions located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540781 Those instructions are linked on the link you gave me. I am using the paid version of Root Explorer

At this point I am not sure which instructions pertain to me. I have tried this, but I am not finding any KNOX files
Coming From OTA 4.3 with knox
1. You need to get rooted so download and use THIS which does it without fail (trust me lol i used it like 30 times now for you guys)
2. Download an explorer file that can gain root access, i use and paid for Root Explorer been using it for years from the Play Store
3. Remove the knox files thru out the whole system which are named HERE
4. Ok now its time to flash a recovery thru ODIN, not a rom a Recovery.... which ever one the rom from #5 says on the thread.
5. Now install this ROM and make sure you go to his instructions to flash NO ONE ELSE, he made the zip he knows what to do
6. Fully boot and you can even setup your info IJS its gonna stay regardless
7. Now flash the CWM recovery attached. This one has flashed my zip without fail for me. (yea its old but come on, You really wanna be the only one without the 4.3 lol just flash thru Odin)
8. Finally boot into recovery and flash my 4.3 Update Linked Below. When it finish and ask you to stop the recovery update pick NO NO NO NO if you stop it you have to root it yourself. If you followed these directions no ones in the thread You should be fine.
If you have a custom recovery go and flash this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36388145
[ROM][RESTORE][5-12-13]Back to UNROOTED Stock with Auto Flash Count Reset

NO LTE yet, but KNOX is gone. I am now using ODIN to go back to a MC2 Stock Restore. It seems to be getting passed the point where KNOX was blocking it before. I will keep you posted.
Well, I screwed myself even worse. I cant even get 3g anymore. I get 2g data which is almost useless. I have tried flashing the stock MC2 ROM and re flashing the one posted here.
Hello Genius Fellas,
I rooted my friends T999L via ODIN perfectly fine & then flash CWR via ODIN without any problems. Downloaded the MIUI ROM from the forum, took a backup before clean flashing it. It didn't work & gave an error. So wiped everything and rebooted the phone and it went back to the stock firmware.
Then I downloaded the Quantum ROM from the original dev section and It wouldn't install either. So I gave up on installing roms and then downloaded the stock firmware for T999L : T999UVUENC2_T999TMBENC2_T999UVUENC2_HOME.tar.md5.
I then tired to flash it via ODIN but It's giving following errors. Ive attached the screen shots.
I don't know what am I missing, I really need your help. Thanks.

It appears as though you are trying to flash firmware for the T999 rather than the T999L. Download this UVUBNC1 posted in DocHoliday77's [Firmware/OTA's] [root66] SGH-T999(All Variants!) Official & Root66 FW & OTA Updates and try flashing it with Odin.

I'm glad it worked. I've been using this forum and "leeching" for years and thought it time that I actually participate and help
STOP!!! PLEASE READ!!! Before you flash this zip file in recovery, you MUST FIRST flash either the NDC tar(see below for link),
or the ND8 tar, in order to obtain the KK bootloader and modem. If you flash this directly over JellyBean bootloader, you WILL brick!!
Alright folks, here we go again. Just as the title says, this is the NDC 4.4.2 Kit Kat update for Boost/VM in flashable zip.
Stock, rooted, busybox, zipaligned, odex or deodex. That’s it. Pretty basic. More to come in the future, but this should be enough
to keep you busy for awhile. Enjoy!
Notes: PLEASE READ!
1. In order for this to work, you need to flash the NDC tar first! Flashing the tar will/should not wipe your data.
2. And yes, NDC tar does come with Knox, so if you flash the tar, you have Knox. And if you flash CWM via Odin to flash this,
it WILL trip Knox, thus voiding your warranty.
3. This MAY cause you to lose your modem, but not to fear, we got you covered.

This is from jmatherly11, over at Android Forums, who found a good way to get rid of the "Samsung" title in the drop down, as well as some other stuff.
For those of you that are seeing "Samsung" in the pull down menu as well as the network type displaying "Samsung" there is a fix in the PlayStore, its called "Refresh Customization" by Samsung MNO Labs. This will factory reset your phone after you download select the first option called "Refresh Customization Opt1," if it is unsuccessful try "Opt2." This fixed my phone after the KitKat upgrade and if your like me and use Sensorly to map Sprint's network it will not correctly map the info because Sensorly thinks you on a network called "Samsung."
This app was designed for Samsung Galaxy devices ONLY running on Sprint's networks. If a Samsung device's initial customization settings has been lost due to the system upgrade to the KitKat platform then this is your fix. This also repairs the "My Account" app that displays "MobileZone."
Also my device is completely stock on 4.4 so for those of you that are rooted I have no idea if this will work.

awesome work JD, I don't post a lot because I do a lot of reading and I find I do not usually have to post because if you do your research everything is covered. But this one has me concerned as it seems a little out of my league. I do not think I am a noob but, not far past. I have a galaxy s3 I rooted it myself and I'm running 4.3., I noticed you mentioned Odin and flashing my custom recovery, I am already running clockworkmod do I have to use Odin? Can't I just flash that car and then the zip using the custom recovery I already have? It's business as usual right? Just flash those items in the order and then the new modem and I'm good to go? And if I have to revert back to back up will I be able to do that? Will I be able to revert back to 4.3? Just a little nervous and thank you for all of your hard work and answering my question in advance. I love the work you guys do and I think it's awesome everyone in this community stick together and help each other. Anyways I will lay back in the bushes and patiently watch for a response!

Question 1: Do you have to use Odin?
Answer: You'll need to be on the ND8 or NDC bootloader for this to work. When he says you have to use Odin, he means for flashing the stock tar for either the Sprint ND8 or the Boost/Virgin NDC ROMs. The tar files can't be flashed from recovery and please don't try to use Mobile Odin, as it doesn't like ND8/NDC.
Question 2: Can you revert back to 4.3?
Answer: You can revert to 4.3 insomuch as using a 4.3 ROM. You can either flash a 4.3 zip from recovery or restore a CWM/TWRP/etc. backup . You will not be able to revert your modem or bootloader to anything prior to ND8 after flashing the ND8/NDC bootloader. It just doesn't work.
Hope that helps.
Hey thank you that was very helpful, so I will have to go to the library today and use Odin. . and flash stock tar for virgin. Very complicated, but with these instructions I can do it ... So I 100% cannot use mobile Odin..,. ? Thank you my friend. Just wish I could update now w/o PC. Cheers

I would not use mobile Odin to flash full tars. That's over 1.5gb you're trying to flash, and one thing goes wrong, you will probably brick. Good luck!

Edit. Please ignore.
Definitely try it - been on it for a few hours now and its great work - plus . I definitely think 4.4 is much smoother than 4.3 was - very happy ?☺

Im VM but already flashed ND8. Working perfect so far and I dont mind the sprint labels as I used to be a sprint user before. Will the NDC be any better for my phone?

Most notice no change but you may have better reception with the NDC modem, no guarantees. They are about the same, just carrier specific. You can always flash back to ND8 tar if you do decide to try it, just fyi.

I'm with boost mobile and currently wicked x rom installed. Is it possible just flash ndc modem only?

Right now I'm running the ND8 bootloader, NDC Modem, and the newest Sprint PRL along with the proxy changes. I'm getting better radio reception not to mention the increase in download speed. It looks like I've found a good combination.

Can anyone tell me if the 4.4.2 can be rooted? I rooted several phones but the boost galaxy s3 will not root for some reason. :banghead:
