Hello xda developers!
Well I just grabbed my Nexus 7 a few days ago and I had lots of fun rooting the tablet and installing TWRP recovery manager along with MultiRom. I can't wait to start flashing and adding new roms to the device and the first one that I really want to try is Ubuntu Touch, but I can't seem to find the image file for the Nexus 7 2013 running Android 4.4 Kit Kat.
I have the kexec-patch installed on my kernel which is necessary for Ubuntu Touch but i am not sure if it available (as of yet) for N7 Flo running 4.4
If it is available (which i really hope it is) could someone provide with a link to download the necessary files, and if at all possible could someone please post a tutorial on installing Ubuntu Touch. I am sure it probably almost the same process as flashing an Android OS but I would still like something to reference.
Again i really hope Ubuntu Touch is available...and i would like to thank all of the members and especially the developers of xda. You are what make android great, and you are the reason i will never buy an iphone/ipad!
I thank you all for your time and assistance...

There is a thread on this topic. Hope it helps.

thanks for the heads up.
Thank you so much for the link...it seems that there is still a lot of work to be done to get Ubuntu Touch to work with N7 Flo. I hope that the developers can accomplish this and I thank them for there efforts.
Thanks again for the link...

i think cm10.1 is the one to do unless i'm getting my versions mixed up,
cm10.2 is android 4.3 and that had problems.
cm10.1 is android 4.2 and should be an easy match i think.
wanting the latest version of whatever is not always best.
and i mean this in the best way, xda is not a shopping mall it's a developers site.
requests are a reasonable thing to expect. progressively flooding the forums with useless
threads/posts is not reasonable. rather than ask for someone else to do for you, take the time
to learn so you can do for yourself. i started in may and since then i have learned a lot.
all i ask is that you consider that.

you start by using the xda search bar.
search terms such as how to compile a kernel, how to build a rom, etc.
and read, read, read.
you will also need a linux 64bit pc for rom building.
you can use a linux 32bit pc for kernel building which is where i started.
as a sort of quick link to find the threads in which i began my learning process
click on my username and select view posts option, it will show you every post i've made.
pay particular attention to the discussions between myself and Restl3ss as he completely guided me
through the process to getting my cm11 build environment set up. there is a huge deal of excellent noob-friendly
info in there.
good luck :good:

you will need to search the internet for instruction on installing Linux.
again, read read read.
As a recommendation search for Debian Linux or Linux Mint.
That is outside the scope of this discussion however. When you have completed that then return
to XDA to continue your quest.

Hey guys
Since the Android site of this device is slowly dying maybe we should try to move forward to another OS.
And Sailfish OS isn't working on our phone so we have one option left...
Ubuntu Touch
And Canonical just published a new porting guide with Android 4.4 as base.
So maybe somebody in this awesome community could try to get this system running on our beloved P6.
Here is the link to the new porting guide:

Yes, I think it will be fantastic too!!!
This is a great idea! Developers - Please, do something! I am not a developer but if I was one, I was going to do this for the users of this superb phone!
I've got a working development set-up and have compiled the Lollipop files and kernel for the vk815 with it. I've installed the SDK but using the 'emulator' is less than easy. I could use help with creating a vk815 config so I can bounce my outputs against it. I would also like to compile TWRP and run that through the 'emulator'. The pre-compilation for that isn't going well and I need some hand holding. Once I'm finished, I'll be happy to share but I really need some help with this last half of the project.
Thanks,
Jim

Yeah I can't help you with that one. It's over my pay grade but I do want to say thank you and applaud you for this. I've been really surprised no one has stepped up to the plate for this. Thanks for this
Any progress on this?
Hi guys, I'm a new one here at the N7 forum, so I was wondering if have a chance of porting remix OS to the N7?? Some Dev want to try?? well I'm studying software engineering and maybe this can be a project, let me know what you guys think
PS: sorry about my English, still studying it[emoji14]

I gave my hand at attempting to port it when it came out but I'm not sure if I was doing something wrong as I could get the ROM to boot up to the boot animation, but the OS itself would not start the UI. I used some of the tutorials on here to attempt porting, but most of the tutorials are for 4.1 and below, so I'm not sure if I was missing something like SELinux contexts on files or something. That said, if you can get further porting it I'd be happy to test, been using PhoenixOS but would love to try RemixOS on my tablet.

Well i will talk with some friends at the uni and see if someone wants to help me with this, any progress i will post, but for now it's just a idea, thanks for the input D :good:
Whats up Guys its been while since I last posted and used my Nexus.
I Iam now using it for Uber eats all day.
I have seen there is several roms running 8.1 Oreo. I wanted to know what would everyone say is the best one that would feel and perform as fast as my Galaxy 8 running 8.0 Oreo.
I am Currently not rooted yet on the Nexus 7 so I know you will tell me to get Team win recovery and root first.
Also its been years since I have rooted lol with team win.
I just want the Tablet to feel extremely fast and be able to customize it as much as the rom lets me. I wanted your opinon on how much faster and snapier it will be after 8.1 Oreo. I really could not tell how fast my S8 was running until I started using the Nexus 7 again for comparison lol.
One thing I want to add as well is there way to make a complete backup of my entire device before unlocking the bootloader as in this video I found he says you have copy all filed on your computer.
Is there not a way to backup or complete a Mirror back up before unlocking and installing the boot loader again sorry guys I have not done a root in years so forgot the entire process from what I remember there was always a way to create a entire mirror backup before rooting or installing the boot loader.
Is there any other way to do this is faster way or more efficient proof since this video was filmed in 2013. So any way to root without factory resetting?
Here is the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k4rCaMPSQ8
I did find this as well from wug fresh one click rooot with twrp but still how would I make mirror save of my entire device before I root and install the recovery?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9CPMG6yIA4
Thanks guys
Hello guys not one answer yet? Please anyone that help me with tjhis it would be apreciated.
https://lineageos.wickenberg.nu/builds/full/flo/
Can't guarantee best/fastest but I have been having good luck with the UNOFFICIAL lineage builds at that link. They aren't necessarily 100% bug free but work very well for my usage (mostly browser, a few apps).
I used wugs unlock way back when and assume it would still work. I don't believe he still keeps it up so you may want to verify or check with other options.
This thread has way more than you will want about the rom and related issues;
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ne...ment/rom-lineageos-15-0-nexus-7-2013-t3673103
A few key things to pay attention to:
- Find the updated twrp(s)
- Read about repartitioning so that system is large enough for the ever-expanding gapps
- most use magisk for root now rather than su
All I can think of right now. I'm far from expert. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in
Thanks man I just read your message now. I do have a question what about the oreo version?
I also have my asus prime running kitkat and it is just slow laggy and buggy as hell it not running like a smooth tablet at all. On the prime I have it rooted with team win 3.0.0
I just want both to be running as fast as my galaxy S8 or as close to it as possible. It seems crazy that Prime feels so slow in comparison when it has quad core processor.
Link and thread I linked are both Oreo
This is an unofficial oreo rom
