Hi,
There hasn't been much if any news about duel core WP7 devices. It would be nice if M$ or any of the manufactures would update us on their newer devices.
I don't know how the cores dueling is going to help performance but I'd like to see some 'duel' core phones too.
Dual core phones would be nice too

It would be nice if we could change the CPU like a desktop or laptop (that is not made by Apple obviously), unfortunately, that wouldn't be happening anytime soon.
Oh right, I have a feeling that we will see them when people actually care.
I still can't see why so many people keep talking about dual core phones.
There are no operating systems or even apps that would be able to utilise a dual core system, so there would be zero benefit.
What applications do you have that need dual cores?

Totally agree, that's my thoughts ;D I got Omnia7 for 600$ which is very low in my country, but those with dual cores will cost 200$ or even more, than I got my Omnia7. And the benefits from them? Now there are none

Only games for the most part. Imagine dual core right now like quad core for your computer.
It was said that the upcoming OS update would bring support to the Qualcomm 7x30 chip, which is an improved version of the current Snapdragon but unfortunately is not dual core.

There are no games created to be laggy on single core 1Ghz processor now. And Well, I don't want to play super duper games, that eat a lot of power, I have PSP and Computer for them. For simpler games, they work perfectly now
Eh, my single core runs WP7 games smoother than androids dual cores run their games mainly because of things like multi-tasking and improper use of hardware. I still dont think android has a game that can go toe to toe with ilomilo in terms of... well... anything amd it runs flawlessly.

On WP7? Well, I don't play need for speed and games that requires a lot resources, because that's why computers and PSPs are

What do you mean by "the new ones" because I have every game released with heavy graphics and the only slow point in the games is the initial startup which im ok with.

Like what? on android? the only playable game on there that doesnt have a port to WP7 is angry birds
Iphone of course has rage HD which is awesome but even ilomilo has better graphics than any android game and thats an early game. Best game on android that doesnt have a port aside from angry birds... probably dungeon hunter HD... graphics are about at par with my old sega saturn.

Honestly wasnt aware they finally released that. Android finally has something over WP7 in my opinion. That's cool really, i envy that game but meh, one game isnt going to sale me over a fluid user friendly UI but no sarcasm or anything I really am envious of that game and with windows and unreal being tied together so much I'd love to see a port. I guess I havent paid that much attention to android since that game was in it's beta stage.
I had ask the same question in the international version S3 user they don't have lag problem.
I have no idea what happening on my phone, or North America S3 isnt good enough for this game?

Lol oh boy....listen its not our north american s3 the s4 chip in our phone is a beast some games still have to be optimized example; temple run....temple run is laggy RIGHT NOW on our phones srill has to be optimized hell it plays better on my g2x. But the s3 is the fastest phone i ever had in terms of processor speed and fluidity. Temple run plays great even on some single core phones. Why because its been optimized. Just give it time im sure there will be updates the s4 chip is a beast. Heres another example temple run plays pretty damn good on the s2 with the qualcomm s3 chip and plays like **** on ours and our chip is way better. Reason being the game was optimized....

Yes, I am experiencing the same issue wwith extreme lag. Can anyone help out with this issue? It runs like a charm for the beginning of the level and then slows down until it goes at 1 frame per 3 seconds, rendering it unplayable until you exit the app and the same thing happens. Has anyone found a solution? It is a perfect port in all other respects and a superb game perfect for a smartphones portability.
Please if anyone would help, it'd be amazing.

I don't know if this has been asked before in depth, but Metal Slug 3 runs like crap on my Galaxy S3. The game starts fine, then it gradually slows down, and finally freezes. The same is true for Blazing Star. It plays fine initially, slows down, and then freezes. I don't know if this problem is exclusive to me, or if everyone with a Snapdragon S4, US variant Galaxy S3 is experiencing these issues. No one at the Play Store mentions it. Is this a real problem, exclusive to me ,or just an optimization issue.
Not that I think it's connected in any way, but I'm running the latest Free Sonic ROM, released on Friday.

Play SNK games on Emulator instead and you will never get slow speed, and they are all free including Metal Slugs.
I'm not playing it on a Neo Geo emulator. I'm playing SNK's official android port. It's really inexcusable. I'm sure there will be an update where the freezes are addressed. The Galaxy S3 is the most popular phone right now, so if the issue is prevalent, it will be addressed with an update.
Yes the Mali is somewhat better, but it isn't anywhere near a night and day difference. I haven't seen any benchmark or real world application where the Mali 400 spanked the Adreno 225. Truth be told, right now the Adreno can handle any current android game with ease. In my opinion, optimisation is the key.

Yeah Mame Reloaded.Go to Emuparadise and download Final Fight(World) and see if it works. You can set your own rom directory in settings toh, dont unzip the files but place the zip in rom directory.
The other version of Mame is good too, they just use different rom sets.Reloaded has better compatibility.
Just place Final Fight zip in rom directory and start the app,it should work. When you see that it does then you can download more roms. And you can use ps3 or wii controlers with it.
You will need this zip that i made for neogeo roms www.4shared.com/zip/ZWYvtdxA/neogeo.html .
Download the other Mame4Droid(0.37b5) and put the neogeo.zip in rom directory. After this you can download any neogeo rom from Emuparadise and it will work.
Also try other emulators they have n64,sega cd and genesis, snes and turbografix 16 are best ones.

I have the same problem (graphics slow to a freeze, but music plays fine) with Blazing Star and Metal Slug 3 on my Nexus running CM10 on a Galaxy Nexus. I don't think I had that issue with Metal Slug 3 under CM9. It could be an ICS vs. JB thing, especially considering JB's focus was graphics running buttery smooth (and having the opposite effect here).
I have the same problem here. No one from the play store seems to be complaining and I think it could specific to galaxy s3 running jb.
Funny thing is metal slug one and two world like a charm and can't imagine how much more complex the third instalment could be...
I'm not first nor last who is asking that question, but now, with the quad-core Tegra 3 phones it could be possible to emulate PSP (or even PS2).
So, is there/anyone working on something of that kind?
And please, don't flame me, I'm aware of another simmilar threads, but none of them are "fresh" ones.
i'm pretty sure this is the answer:
the resources that would be needed to emulate the ps2s hardware is too much currently. i think unless somebody wrote a specific tegra 3 ps2 emulator, it *might* be possible, but even then wouldn't be perfect. there would be framerate drops etc etc.
i know theres some for pcs, but obviously pc cpus/gpus are a bit more mature, and obviously have specific instruction sets etc that can be utilized more efficiently.
Nope, not even the more powerful SGS III can do that. Up till now, only PS One can be emulated.

Fixed also I can sell you an anti flame vest for $200 usd. You might need it.
As for psp and ps2 emulation is very primitive on the pc right now so I don't expect a emu any time soon on android and fyi my buddies i5 desktop pc can barely run ps2 games at full speed. I don't expect an android device to get close to that.

Yeah, you're right, even in PCSX2 on my 3,1 GHz i5 & Radeon HD6870 machine with 8GB RAM are some games pretty slow sometimes. But I'm using some graphics enhancements (like antialiasing etc.), so I was thinking about original PS2-like graphics...
Nevermind, it was just an idea. I should sleep more and think less.
I should've been happy for PS1 emulator right now.
Hello.
I'd like to start a conversation about pokemon games running on android emulators.
I've read somewhere that pokemon games are designed not to work on emu's,but i still want to discuss it.
So,i've tried to run pokemon diamond on every single NDS emulator there is for android. Dsoid,nds4droid,Andsemu.
And all run it the same. I can get in the game, the part when rowan talks is really smooth, like in real NDS,but, the in game performance is really laggy.
But thats my case,i have an underclocked and undervolted phone,so,maybie someone got it partly smooth? Like, not so smooth like in the actual console, but not so laggy that its unplayable?
Second,i've tried to run Pokemon platinum, and it got to the "press start" screen. Freezes.
Someone even said they got pokemon white running, gonna try that.

almost the same result though it feels a liiiiitle bit faster( 21 fps average) its still too slow to be played
maybe we just have to wait for more updates, all emulators struggle at first
but on the surface pokemon doesnt seem like a very demanding game imo
n64 and ps1 games seem way more demanding but play very smooth on this phone or any quad or dual around, so i guess its a matter of optimization

Honestly they probably won't ever run fast. The ones on PC still don't run even great, although you will get a steady game with decent specs. I wouldn't count on running a Nds emu anytime soon until we have a strong spec'd phone.

It is about processing power. I believe to emulate any system full speed you need to run on a system about 4X more powerfully than what you're emulating. Unless the emulators start utilizing multiple cores (I don't believe they do now) you probably need around 2 GHz chip for effective nds emulation.

Waaaay more than 4x the power if the emu is not optimized. Considering the NDS has a 66mhz cpu and our 1.0 + ghz phones can't do it.
Unless the emulator is written to take advantage of multiple cores, it, like most programs, will use just a single core. So a single-core processor clocked at 3GHz will outperform a quad-core clocked at 2GHz (in respects to emulation performance).
FYI, most Intel Core-i processors have built-in per-core overclocking: a single core under demand will be overclocked as long as the overall CPU temperature is within normal parameters.
Don't forget to play around with the emulator's graphics settings as well as your video card's (GPU settings for phones). Reducing or turning off anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, texture quality, triple buffering, etc will increase your frame rate.
Your version of android and custom ROM can definitely be affecting your game play. My favorite ROM is Eclipse 2.1 Build 4 (Android 4.1.2) with the latest LeanKernel. It's by far the most stable and fastest ROM/kernel combo I've tested on my Gnex. I can overclock the CPU from 1200MHz to 1650MHz, and the GPU from 307MHz to 512MHz. You can also force 16-bit transparency for even more graphics performance.
If someone can PM me a link to the emulator and game, I can test it and report back.

Even though you have the right to have a rom as a backup to the actual game and also there are anti-piracy ar codes and patches for the roms. That's how people bypass them.

Just to add what Speedyink and Iloqutiss has already said, it's not about the sheer power, in fact, we can theoretically easily reach sky-high frame per second with our hardware, but emulators are not coded for high frame rate, it's coded for, well, emulation, it needs to mimic the target hardware platform, and this includes the accuracy and latency, and this means a hell lot of processing power, which will whether you like it or not, reduces the speed considerably.
Emulator is not coded for being fast, it's coded for being accurate, here's a good writeup by Ars about how emulators generally works: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2011/...-3ghz-quest-to-build-a-perfect-snes-emulator/
EDIT I just realized I quoted the wrong person, whoops, corrected.

FYI... phones are just reaching toward the power of a Pentium m @ 2ghz CPU wise. PM does 7k+ MIPS and 3.9gflops @1.7ghz which it takes a quad in a phone to compete with and it still doesn't reach that. Can't compare your laptop to your phone as even a low end laptop is vastly more powerful than a high end phone. Your 3ghz single core pastes the quads of todays phones. I.e a POS pentium 4 @ 3ghz will avg 4.4gflops, while my quad exynos will avg 200-300mflops... accounting for dalvik lag I'd assume peak I'd see is 3gflops in ideal conditions which is still a fair way from even a Pentium 4. And then to even compare it to the core architecture is a joke because it will get beat every time. Arm wins hands down in performance/Watt though and I don't see that changing any time soon
