Sounds like TWRP is corrupt, have you tried CWM to see if the problem exists there also?
As far as trying to mount usb from TWRP, I have never got that to work.

Mounting USB storage while in CWM recovery

I was trying to flash a new rom and, to make things short, somehow my system and internal usb storage were wiped. So now i can't reboot and when i try to mount the usb storage from cwm to put the rom back on it it says "E:Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)". I don't have an sd card with me right now. Is there any way i can get a rom back on my internal usb storage?
edit: I just realized i can return to stock using odin. But if anybody knows how i can mount usb storage from cwm please let me know. sorry for the noobness, i'm new to samsung.
Had the same problem
hey man I have the same problem too but my internal storage isn't wiped.
as far as I know you can only download clockworkmod recovery with ODIN.
here is the link of my thread concerning this problem in XDA:

Go to galaxys2root.com, find ur model of device. It has exact files on how to restore stock factory settings on your phone. Reroot and happy flashings
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
If Odin works for you I recommend going to this address and doing exactly like the instructions given:

Fast...wasn't it?!

[Q] Complete Device Reset

hey guys,
i wanna completely reset my one x via hboot or fastboot. is that possible?
i have the issue that my system got chrootet to /sdcard/0 and now i have lots of trouble finding my data or using cwm. i cant even mount usb via cwm oder restore my old backups
thx
Why? What happens if you mount usb storage in recovery?
Which ROM are you using?
i upgraded from cm10 to 4.2.1 so my sdcard got chrootet to /0
if i try to mount usb it says "unable to open lumis file" or sth
also i cant see any of my backups in cwm cuz cwm thinks my sdcard is /sdcard, but it actually is /sdcard/0....
i already reinstalled cwm but nothing changed
my rom is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2013506&highlight=rc8 RC8 version

Does it actually say 5.8.4.0 in recovery?
Give me the full error message you get. It's "ums lunfile", right?
TT is right ! Flash the new cwm recovery correctly and transfer everything froms sdcard\0 to just sdcard ..... this method definitely work ....

HELP! Stuck in CWM Recovery; Failed OTA update

Help! Don't know what to do. Downloaded the latest PA update via OTA on my GNEX. Tried to install it, but it doesn't work. Now, my phone is stuck in CWM recovery.
When I try to install it, it says:
Warning: no file_contextsset_metadata (its long...but its stated like that)
E:// Error in the zip file name
(Status 7)
Installation aborted.
Help. I don't know what do. Sorry for disturbing you guys. Really need your help. Can't use my phone.
I tried reading about Status 7 fix. But don't know how to add the zip file on my phone as its stuck in the CWM recovery and can't access my phone storage on my laptop. Please guys, help.
Nvmnd. Found a fix.
Use twrp since cwm is not supported by the ota app

Have you tried using the "Mount USB Storage" option under mounts and storage? Could help you access you SD Card from your laptop.

That doesn't work on nexus devices. Adb push or adb sideload are the options.

[Q] Unable to mount sdcard

So I rooted my phone just fine using the root66 odin file. No issues there. I then flashed TWRP using the .tar file as well. Again no issues, however now I am trying to flash a custom ROM by using twrp but it is unable to mount my storage, the external or internal. Neither one are working.
I tried flashing CWM as well and I get the same issues. Its not recognizing any of my storage.
Should I reflash the root66 again and start over or what? Ive also tried formatting both drives, the external card and the iternal and that hasnt worked either. Any help would be great, my phone isnt "bricked" but i cant flash anything through recovery.

TWRP problems

I'm using TWRP v3.2.1-0 and rooted with Magisk 14.6.
I'm trying to backup system files and can't make it work. When I try to backup to internal storage, I get an error message that says: "Cannot create /data/media/0/TWRP' folder (Operation not permitted)." It doesn't matter what files I try to save or what I have mounted, I always get that error. It appears to be a file permission problem.
So, I tried using a thumb drive with the OTG adapter. When I do that, I'm unable to mount the drive in TWRP. I can mount it when booted into the system, but not in TWRP. In TWRP, selecting USB-OTG as the storage device does nothing.
Does anybody else have this problem or know how to fix it?
