[Q] Unable to mount sdcard - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

So I rooted my phone just fine using the root66 odin file. No issues there. I then flashed TWRP using the .tar file as well. Again no issues, however now I am trying to flash a custom ROM by using twrp but it is unable to mount my storage, the external or internal. Neither one are working.
I tried flashing CWM as well and I get the same issues. Its not recognizing any of my storage.
Should I reflash the root66 again and start over or what? Ive also tried formatting both drives, the external card and the iternal and that hasnt worked either. Any help would be great, my phone isnt "bricked" but i cant flash anything through recovery.

Can't Mount Sd Card in CWM

So i went to flash a ROM and now it says while flashing that the flash was aborted because the system can't mount the SD card. I'm using the newest CWM and have flashed stuff before. Not sure what to do, it wont let me make backups, restore, or flash anything.

Did you use the Mounts menu to try to manually mount the sd?
Also, Which method did you use to get into CWM?

Ya i went into the menus and manually unmounted and then remounted the SD card but that didn't do anything. I used the typical three finger method to boot into CWM like i always do.
i think
I believe this has something to do with the way in which the SD card is formatted I also cannot mount in to usb storage in CWM i get an E: error
Have you guys tried to "Reboot recovery" from the "Adavnced" menu in CWM, and then try to flash the ROM?
I've had this happen before, it was a formatting problem. The easiest fix I found was to back up SD-card data on your pc, reformat the card from the Android system, then copy your data back over. CWM should be able to mount your card now.
I had a problem with the mount dropping mid flash it was my sd for some reason was chipped I always keep backup files

Just flash another version of CWM and u'r done. I faced this problem after flashing Siyah Kernel v2.3 which includes CWM 5.0, and I tried all the methods online; formatting, error-checking, etc... nothing succeed!
Finally I flashed another kernel (Which includes CWM 4.0) and it worked fine.
Thanks!
Same thing happened to me just now... found this thread.. pushed new CWM in ODIN - Worked like a charm.. Fixed in 2 minutes..
Flashing another CWM (ACS recovery this time...) via Odin did not fix the issue. Going to try the format /sdcard fix and see... argh!
*Edit* aaaand that didn't work either. WTF... I literally just got this phone 2 hours ago... brand new.
delete the .androidsecure folder on your sd that worked for me formatting wont work if you put your files on the same with me because i always copied that folder along too

Mounting USB storage while in CWM recovery

I was trying to flash a new rom and, to make things short, somehow my system and internal usb storage were wiped. So now i can't reboot and when i try to mount the usb storage from cwm to put the rom back on it it says "E:Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)". I don't have an sd card with me right now. Is there any way i can get a rom back on my internal usb storage?
edit: I just realized i can return to stock using odin. But if anybody knows how i can mount usb storage from cwm please let me know. sorry for the noobness, i'm new to samsung.
Had the same problem
hey man I have the same problem too but my internal storage isn't wiped.
as far as I know you can only download clockworkmod recovery with ODIN.
here is the link of my thread concerning this problem in XDA:

Go to galaxys2root.com, find ur model of device. It has exact files on how to restore stock factory settings on your phone. Reroot and happy flashings

If Odin works for you I recommend going to this address and doing exactly like the instructions given:

Fast...wasn't it?!

stuck in recovery now what?

I updated clockworkmod recovery through rom manager. Rom manager said the install was successful. So then I boot into the recovery to flash the cyanogenmod 10 preview build. I do all my wipes data, cash, exe. Then I go to install the rom and I realize now with the new recovery I can’t install/restore anything from /extsdcard (external storage). It only has the option to install/restore from /sdcard (internal storeage) which would be fine except all my roms/backups are on my micro sdcard (external storage). I have already wiped everything so now I can’t boot my phone to fix it. Is there a way to install the old recovery after I have wiped everything. I was thinking about using Odin to flash the old recovery in download mode again (like I did when rooting) but I am not sure if this is ok to do. I tried mounting the internal storage to my pc to copy the files I need from my computer to my phone. When I plugged it in the box in the bottom right popped up and said installing drivers and they were successful but when I try mounting (anything) the computer does not recognize it. So I can’t transfer the files. Would someone who knows more than me give some advice please?

While youre in recovery, can you mount through the mounts and storage option? Im not on the recovery you are talking about but if you can mount it you can throw the rom on that way. If you cant do that you should be able to just boot up the rom thats currently on it and mount it that way. Just because you wiped everything doesnt mean that it wont boot up, it just cleared all of the data. It should load up with your previous rom.
Thank you very much. It gave me more insight on what was going on. I have my phone back up and working. I was able to flash the old recovery with odin and i hope this information will help someone else in future as well.

Flashed rom and can't restore or mount sdcard

I recently flashed Paranoidandroid rom and thought I would try another rom, so I went and deleted data and went to navigate and install from my sdcard. It had an issue so I re-flashed el29 kernel via odin and when I came back into the recovery I couldn't mount my sdcard and was having problems when viewing it via windows. When I try to mount /sdcard I just get "Error mounting /sdcard", and when I try to mount usb storage I get an issue with writing to the lunfile.
As it stands I cannot do anything on my phone if it involves flashing from the sdcard. Is there a way to fix it via odin. the phone isn't recognized by adb so any solution requiring that will not work.
El29? Go back to el26 and see what happens

I was able to flash stock using QBKing's tutorial, then re-rooted and reflashed cwm, but the sdcard still has issues mounting. WHen I'm in stock it displays a notification saying "Blank sdcard, please format" but it never does.

It's quite possible the card is toast.
Have you tried mounting it on a PC?
If it mounts on the PC you run a chkdsk with repair on it. Open command prompt then:
chkdsk x: /r (x being your SDcard drive letter.)
What about formating it (FAT32) on the PC id it shows up too.
Good luck.

Twrp not mounting internal sd?

The recovery is mounting the external SD, but my internal isn't showing anything. I updated twrp via goo, however since I'm using jellybam I think it flashed att's recovery image. I've tried to flash the tmo image back but it still doesn't Mount even after checking it in the options. What can be done to fix?
Thanks in advance
Solved
Hmm so when I flashed the newest version of twrp, my internal SD was moved to my data/media folder. Now my backups aren't visible to restore if I wanted. How can I retrieve them?
can't seem to backup
ok so ive been looking at these forums for years and somehow always found the answer until now. I am completely stuck and can't figure out why my twrp recovery won't backup at all either and is not recognized whatsoever. I am going to try and flash cwm and see if it will work.
I after searching and searching I finally found an answer. I flashed the cm 10.1 rom in the att forum to check out 4.2.1 first hand. In the thread there's a file you can flash to revert your storage to the way twrp reads it now since 4.2 has multi user support, but it didn't work on my end. My backups are still on my internal SD but unrecognizable in twrp. I ordered a new micro SD to throw my backups on so i can retry. We'll see if it works...
Here's the twrp article explaining it all in full
