Flash Roms Without Tripping Knox 0x1! - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hi everybody!
I was reading one of the Note 3 forums on XDA and noticed that zroice made a tool to help flash roms without a custom recovery!
I haven't seen it mentioned here, but I figured that it may be prudent to make a public service announcement here, as well as let the rom developers here know about it. Who knows? They may even make a release of their rom or roms with native support for this tool, for one click installs!
You can find it @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2550120.

it says it doesnt involve custom recovery or custom kernals (which trip knox). There currently is no solution to those knox issues as of this point

There is also the issue of Aroma Installers in Roms. Most of the ROMs we find here use Aroma. Since you can't choose what you want, you'd need to move the files for your choices by hand and run the script again.

Anyone have use this to flash a custom Rom on your note 3?

I tried several roms on my Sprint variant Note 3. The only one that seemed to come close to working was freezas stock rooted MJ4 rom. The only thing was that the direct input would stop as with Samsung keyboard force closing. Tried Jellybomb and Bonsai too with no luck at all.

Mobile Odin seems like a nice alternative?

With T-Mobile's announcement yesterday, I am contemplating if I wanted to switch from Verizon to TMo,...Right now I could flash custom ROMs via SafeStrap and not trip Knox, so I was just here to see what sort of development has been going on with the TMo variant,..

Yes. It is. There was a guide on how to use MOP (Mobile Odin Pro) to flash without tripping Knox. Kn0x0ut is more or less unsupported now, since MOP supports AROMA too and deprecates it.
The problem is that MOP doesn't support our model, and neither does safestrap, which isn't necessary due to our phone having an unlocked bootloader. So, the only way at present is to use kn0x0ut.
You can force MOP to believe you have a different model phone. It may actually allow you to flash a tmobile Note 3 as if it was the international variant. However, I'm reluctant and a bit fearful to do that. If someone else wants to try, let us know!

MOP now supports our phone model.

The AT&T safestrap works perfectly for our phone as well. So we have a few options.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk

Yes, but MOP supports AROMA AFAIK and Safestrap does not.
There was a link on a guide to use MOP without tripping Knox and allowing to use AROMA. I wonder if I can find it?

Yes, MOP supports Aroma fine. Just make sure to choose stock/unmodified kernel when going through the Aroma installer. Both options have their benefits.

After some really confusing and hard time searching through the forums and found little consolidated answers, I decided to write this FAQ to help those like me who are having doubts about the latest Galaxy Note II GT-N7105 model.
Q: How can I root my N7105 the safe way?
A:
1) Using Auto-Root by Chainfire. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980683)
2) Using PC Odin or Mobile Odin with Chenglu’s cwm6-recovery-n7100-121014.tar (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901196)
In 2), although the file is named for N7100, but it works for N7105 as well. I have tested it personally with Mobile Odin and it works flawlessly.
Q: Will rooting N7105 with method 1) and 2) loses 4G LTE connectivity?
A: No, it works fine.
Q: I want multi-windows but my N7105 doesn’t come with it.
A: You need to upgrade to N7105ZHALJ4 to get have multi-windows.
Q: Where to get Stock ROM, say N7105ZHALJ4 ?
A: I wrote a blog entry on that, please read it: http://lockyep.blogspot.hk/2012/11/technology-extended-advanced-samsung.html
For the fullest list of Stock ROMs, go to http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=GT-N7105
Q: I want multi-windows with unlimited apps. How can I get that?
A: You need a deodex ROM plus a Mod.
Q: If I want deodex ROMs and that Mod, what are my options?
A: Currently with deadman12’s N7105XXDLK7 deodexed Rom V1.1 [4.1.2][Aroma][Rooted] , it does the deodexing and the Mod for you. teshxx's [4.1.2] N7105XXDLK7 || Odexed & DeOdexed, Rooted, Busybox, and also EmptyArea’s N7105XXXALIJ EmptyStock . For pure Mod, there is Modded N7105ZHALJ4 MultiWindow Control
Q: Can I not flash so many ZIP files but still get the same result?
A: Yes, it's your lucky day! But you'll need to do something by yourself. First, download jcspecs' [UTILITY] Clockwork Combiner - Combine flashable zips. {Version 1.5} Then download the files mentioned in the above questions, then you can combine the ZIP files into just one single file!! Then you can flash it.
Q: Where can I get the N7105 kernels?
A: AndreiLux has the Perseus and stock LJ1, LIJ kernels on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927852. For LJ4 stock kernel, use Pyr0x64’s Dropbox URL: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/67559790/LJ4kernel.tar
Q: I have other less advanced questions, such as the missing radio, unable to run Flash on some websites, faster battery drain than GT-N7100, where can I find the answers?
A: You can read another blog entry of mine, titled Technology: Galaxy Note II Q & A -- Part 1
[FAQ Will be updated as my knowledge on GT-N7105 gains.]
In 2), although the file is named for N7100, but it works for N7105 as well. I have tested it personally with Mobile Odin and it works flawlessly.

Have you tried unplugging the sim card , reboot , shutdown , plug sim card again and reboot ?

Of course. I am kind of experienced with flashing and ROMs and so on, played with my I9000 for 2 years now.
I also had 2 sim cards to test - one original micro sim, one "cutted" micro sim. Both didn't work. Deleted cache, dalvik cache, did factory reset. After i flashes stock then, it recognized the sim cards.
Great thread, thanks for starting this...
Strange, today I rooted another phone, it's alright. What ROMs are/ were you on?

FAQ has been updated today. More questions added.
Doesnt the rom [ROM][GT-N7105]N7105ZHALJ4 deodexed Rom V1.1 [Rooted][19 Nov] already include the multi window with unlimited apps mod? You make it seem like you need legends mod too.

You are so right! I just upgraded the v1.0 to v1.1 without reading the changes for that ROM.
Thanks!
My mobilephonecontract does not allow me to use LTE (didnt want it), but they only had the LTE version for me. So i can use HSPA+.
So is it possible to flash a n7100 rom, and only lose the possibility to use LTE and HSPA+ ?
cause in the end it was a failure to buy the n7105, cause the LTE network coverage is to low in my region. And the n7105 has far to less options to get modded.
So my question is: Is it possible to flash a n7100 rom, or can this damage my phone ?
I don't have the exact answer. I dare not try it. Theoretically speaking , flashing shouldn't be a problem but getting everything to work , I doubt it. The 4G chip needs 4G kernel and driver. I guess you will simply lose the data connection.
But if you can get hold of a flashable 4G kernel , maybe it might work. Then again, why so you even want to try flashing n7100 rom ? There are deodex roms for N7105 already.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
Cause there is much more variety of Roms for the n7100, espacially CM10 Roms.
But maybe i just have to wait a Bit longer for more Roms.
Thx for ur answer
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
The N7105 uses a Qualcomm chip to control the modem. I believe if you flash a 7100 ROM you will stuff your radio as it has a different chip.
Thanks for this thread. I'm looking to jump to the N7105 for LTE. Really hope some Roms get ported across. Im loving the Omega Rom on my N7100 currently...

You shouldn't be flashing kernels seeing as you don't have a clue what you're doing. If something were to go wrong you would be screwed. You don't even know where to look for the kenerls. All T-Mobile kernels are in the T-Mobile original development forum. You can flash any T-mobile/i9505 ROM as long as you flash a T-Mobile kernel(which can be located in the Original Development forum). You were lucky enough to be given step by step guide but that won't teach you anything and you won't learn that way. All you know is that you need a T-mobile kernel to flash after flashing a i9505 ROM, but you don't know why. I would suggest learning why so you don't run into future problems.

I rooted using this method while still on 4.1.2 and it worked flawlessly.
I then paid for and installed SuperSU Pro and activated "Survival Mode"
Lastly, after the OTA update was COMPLETELY finished, I followed this simple procedure to get root back again.
SuperSU disables Knox for you on 4.3 which is also nice. I should have qualified here that I am COMPLETELY stock other than root. I have not "frozen" any apps., deleted any Samsung provided files, etc. and I have stock bootloader and stock recovery. This will likely NOT work if you have done any of those things.
Is there a flashable version of this? If not, can somebody make one? Thanks.
I'm running a custom rom and rollouts/updates from vendors freak me out because I don't trust not one of them. Knowing AT&T they have thrown in some bit of encryption that locks the bootloader. I understand this might not be the case this time but I do know none of them can be trusted.
Now if you excuse me, I'm 1/2 done with 1984 the book and my tin foil hat is making me itch.
Guys I need help I am stuck, I am using unlock att with tmobile, I check software update but it days interrupted, and I even tried with kies but it's not connecting at all, I tried 2 pcs.... Any help... What to do to update it... Please

I have a few questions for you and/or those more in the know:
If I were to do this same thing, would I be able to flash a custom recovery (like TWRP) and/or flash custom ROM's/Kernels like I can already do now? One of my main concerns is that the stock kernel doesn't support Boeffla Sound, and that really makes for better audio on this device...might as well take full advantage of that Wolfson DAC...
I have to admit, it would be nice to be able to use pure AT&T stock, but rooted, as a base...this is why I loved the old CleanROM AT&T SE so much...
TIA for any guidance you can give on this.
Side note: after ODIN'ing back to 4.1.2 MA4, it says I have a 741MB update I can take....I'm sure that's this 4.3 update...Culpeper, VA here.

I did the same as marchusdavis but it resulted in a total disaster. After I downloaded the OTA update from AT&T I restarted my phone and it installed through CWM-Touch. At the end it asked if I wanted to ensure root was maintained and of course I said "yes" there (as well as through my SuperSU Pro Survival Mode). When it booted, my WiFi no longer works AND I lost root.
If anyway has any advice on how to get to a stock 4.3 from here please let me know!
Ugh, having trouble updating atm.
Goes up to 30%, then my phone reboots and says
"The update was interrupted" or something like that
On stock 4.1.2 rooted with stock recovery if anyone can help.

I don't believe so, as I am completely stock, bootloader and all. If you want to install other ROMs, you'd need to use a different method I believe. Likely downloading this update either via Kies or something else, and use ODIN to do everything. If you search around a bit on XDA, you'll probably find someone who has done it successfully and posted how. While I like custom ROMs, I have not had a need to use one yet on this device. However, if Samsung doesn't eventually give us Air Command, that might be enough to make me try it!
Is it possible to get the official update from the leak or do I have to downgrade to 4.1.2? I tried updating from the leak but it said it's the latest version.

Does anyone have any info on downgrading from OH1? I've yet to see any info on it, though it is apparently the latest modem for this phone, and quite frankly, it blows. I tried dropping to the MD4, and lost my MEID and things. Thankfully I had a modem backup and it worked coming back, but man, I hate that I can't update my data profile on AICP and none of the Touchwiz roms list compatibility with this new modem.
I'm new to the Samsung scene and all this extra crap I couldn't do with other devices is confusing as hell at 1am and no sleep or coffee. I know OH1 is what was there after the Stagefright update, but it may have been there when I bought the phone. Ideas and suggestions would be awesome on getting back to stock or switching to TW without losing service programming.
Please keep in mind I don't have a PC but I do have Mobile ODIN and the latest TWRP.

Except there aren't any that I can find. The latest ones all show something other than OD2 and OH1. I assume I'm stuck with AICP for just that reason, which is crap because I can't revert to a stock TouchWiz OD2 that doesn't seem to exist. I haven't got a PC on my truck so I can't use Kies to get it back to actual stock. I suppose I'm screwed then.
Edit: I've seen plenty of s4 and up OD2 and OH1 roms but nothing for the S3. I know it's old as hell but damn, it's still a fairly solid phone.

Oops, my bad... I thought this was the S4 forum (the latest update is also OH1)... You need to use an ND8 or NJ2 ROM. I have 2 of them for the S3 in the Android Development section.
Same situation kind of...
I too had done the ota update to oh1 on my s3 and the modem turned to crap. I rerooted and installed wicked s5 xperience 2.2. used the flash directions except I used twrp no issues at all dirty flash and then clean flash. Modem works way better... I get signal in places I didn't have before.
i got the same problem
hi, could you tell me which room should i use, posting the link or something. l710vpudoh1, you meant this one SPH-L710_ND8_Full Restore_UNROOTED (Compressed Archive).exe (Resets user data). cuz im in 4.4.2 and i dont know if this is gonna work.

I returned my s3 to non-rooted stock NJ2 using Odin and it updated to OH1. I don't have service but want to activate it on RIngPlus. I am having this issue where the display flashes off and power button does not respond as it is supposed to. Wondering if a flash to a different rom will fix it. The problem is not new though. Even when drawing the pattern to unlock screen will go off.

Current situation for S9 root and recovery for US users

I had pretty much written off Samsung as an option for a new phone due to the locked boot loader and lack of root for the US versions of the phones. The last time I checked only the Exynos versions were unlockable.
I was visiting this forum and saw this section with Snapdragon has been added. But it seems to be limited to the SM-G9650. The US version from T-Mobile is the SM-G965U.
What is the current situation? If I want to operate on T-Mobile, can I purchase the SM-G9650, install TWRP, install T-Mobile stock ROM, and then Magisk?

Correct.
You can use the snapdragon variant sm-g9650 on us carriers.
Myself and several others are already running it on vzwy and TMO right now.
But you can't install a stock TMO rom without some work. There will be custom roms coming very soon.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'm not opposed to custom ROMs, but I have found that they are often missing Wi-Fi Calling, which I use extensively.
Thus I tend to stick with stock to make sure I have those features..
When you say "some work", what do you mean? Are there any guidelines? I searched this forum for T-Mobile and found this thread that said "you need a patched Odin". Is that all?

By some work I mean you can't just Odin US firmware to a chinese model. You stand the risk of hard bricking.
So you would need a custom rom for sure. As fast as WiFi calling not working? I don't know what rom you've been using but it works on @stang5litre custom rom [emoji41]

I wasn't aware that the SM-G9650 is a chinese version. I've also seen a model SM-G965U1 available on Amazon and elsewhere. They say "unlocked" but don't say whether that means SIM or Bootloader unlocked. If they were bootloader unlocked, then would they be able to use the TMO stock ROM directly?
I'll be watching for the @stang5litre custom rom when it gets posted. That might be the best option.

Yes but they're not unlocked in the sense of a bootloader unlock.
Anytime you see an advertisement that says Unlocked, it typically means carrier/sim unlocked.
Only the 0 model can be bootloader unlocked.

I'm still trying to make a decision on which way to go. I like the S9, but not happy about having to pay full retail price and not get a warranty. My track record for Samsung hardware is pretty bad. I'm on my fifth Note 4 - the first four had various hardware problems from power button failure to "black screen of death" failure, and were replaced under warranty.
I've been thinking about the OnePlus 6T. It's bootloader unlocked and has a more reasonable price, but I'm really turned off by the proprietary charging and lack of 3.5mm headphone.
One question I forgot to ask: Can anyone confirm Band 71 Support for the SM-G9650 and SM-G9600? As I research this question, I'm getting mixed results.

As far as I can tell, the SM-G9600 does not support Band 71.
I don't know which spec sources are authoritative, but I see it is not listed as supported at these sites: phonemore, gsmarena, bhphotovideo, and devicespecifications.com
I cannot find any authoritative source that says B71 is supported.
Summary of my research on the G9600 as the only known root-capable Samsung S9 phone:
Substantially more expensive (than S9 US versions, or OnePlus 6T) --- strike 1
No Warranty --- strike 2
No Band 71 (and many other bands missing) --- strike 3, you're out!
So I guess it's back to OnePlus and trying to hack a way around their fast charging issues....
