The Google Play Music app has been updated today and is supposed to allow music to be stored to the SD card. My Samsung Galaxy S3 updated and the option to store music on the SD card is present. Even after my Note 8 (5110, not rooted, running stock) updated the Play Music app to the same version, however, the option to store music on the SD card is NOT present. I have an SD card in the tablet and store apps and other date there. I even uninstalled the Play Music updates back to factory original and then updated the app again. Also rebooted the Note and still the option does not show. Is anyone else having this problem? Is there a reason it is not supposed to work on the Note 8?

Interesting. It does work on my Galaxy S3 (running stock), but not my Note 8 (also running stock). I uninstalled the updates and let it update again and it still does not give me that option. The version numbers are the same. Doesn't make any sense--especially if it is running on another person's Note!

The N8 is a 5110 running Android 4.2.2. The S3 is running Android 4.1.2. As I stated previously, both are non-rooted stock.

Open the app Music Player that comes with the phone. Open the song you want to play. Press home button and a little icon appears on the notification bar. If it looks like a pause button that means its paused if it looks like a play button. You can control the music from the notification bar when you pull it down check out the video link to see how I did it if this doesn't work there's a problem with your phone and I would advise you to go the seller as there is something wrong with the phone.

My wife received a replacement phone and her netflix has no video. Everything works until you get to the actual video where the sound plays and everything shows (e.g. timer at bottom), but there is no video. I've tried various ROMs and OS version (4.0.1-4.0.4). I set it up to mirror my phone exactly and then even restored my nandroid on her phone but still nothing!
Anybody else have this problem and may be a fix??
Thanks!
I've been having this same thing happen using the Netflix app on my tablet. I just let it play for ten seconds or so and then grab the slider and pull it back to the beginning. Picture shows up and the video plays fine from there on out.

Hey!
I am having a problem with the Google Play Music app. I cannot make the songs available offline! When I view the menu, the option to download the songs does not show up. I contacted Google about this but they haven't responded yet. Does anyone else have this problem and can offer advice?
Thanks,

wws12: Can you stream those songs? Google Play does only allow use from 10 different devices. After flashing a few custom roms (each ne version counts as a new device, also it is the same hardware device) my 10 were used up and on the eleventh i couldn't download or stream any music from the online library. Maybe it is the same for you. You can unregister devices on the website.

Question: How many times have you flashed a new ROM since using Google Play Music? And have you checked out your registered devices? How many are there? If you are a serial flasher like many here on XDA, you need to deregister some older versions of your phone.
Go to a web browser on your computer. Go to the Google Play Music make sure you are logged in. Get to the music settings and check out your devices there.
I have never flashed a ROM on my N7.

I am not just talking about your N7, do you have a phone you flashed and used Google music with? If so, each different rom will be recognized as a different device, dependant on the rom dev and how they listed your device.
Ok next question; How much space do you have on your device? It's not nearly full is it?
Nope I don't think its even half. Got the 16gb version.

Yes you can download songs to your nexus 7.
Select the artist or albums tab in Google music
Then click the 3 dots in the top right hand corner (menu button).
Select "choose on device music"
You should now see a pin with the option to save off line next to the album

You sir, are amazing! Worked like a charm. Quick question, is there a way to only download specific songs instead of the whole album?
Thanks,

If I want a song (or even album) on my N7, I just go to Google Music on a PC and use Music Manager to download all to my PC, then select what I want on the N7. It's much faster this way (once music is on your PC), and gives you a complete back up of what's online.
PS: If you go to Albums and select "choose on device music"... then swipe to songs, and select a song, and another song... etc... then turn off wifi, the individual songs seem to be added on your device. Not sure how many that will do it for, I only tried 2.

Short answer.... No.
What the guy in the post before me is referring to is caching, which the play music will do to your last songs played based on your app settings.
There use to be a feature to back up individual song, but it has been removed in the latest update to the music app... so this doesn't just affect the nexus 7.
So I have some purchased movies from Google. I recently tried to play one. It loads up, starts playing, and plays the first 9 seconds, buffers, jumps back to second 8 and boot loops between second 8 and 9 constantly. I went to Play Store and tried everything they suggested to troubleshoot the issue. Cleared cache. Pinned(downloaded the movie) for offline viewing. I even deleted it from system and reinstalled it. Nothing works. It plays 9 seconds and bootloops. I searched Google and XDA and couldn't find any threads relating to this issue. I have contacted Google directly and am awaiting a response.
Anyone else who can confirm this issue? Im running stock rooted LG8.

Correct Answer, you cannot play Google movies on a rooted phone or tablet, has to be stock. DRM(digital rights management) comes in to play which checks for root access, if root, then no play, because its easier to pirate a movie with root access

Not true, movies work on my rooted nexus7 and this phone as well. Google updated play to stop root issues and playback a couple months ago. I'm using cm10 on my phone and just downloaded all my movies as well as watched one, tablet is on paranoid ROM.
Earlier I was on codename, which would not let me download any movies.

Google made a big point last year (or was it hte year before?) to say that rooted devices will not be able to stream movies from Google.
I wonder if maybe AOSP ROm's like CM10 don't include the DRM APK's that would report on root to Google?
Still no response from Google. Still no movies streaming.
Google does allow rooted devices to stream. Im now running a stock jellybean rom leak. Still having the same exact problem.
I'm facing this issue too.. rooted deodex'd LJ7 build. I've seen some ROMs have removed DRM or something... Is that a way to get around this problem?
Try a different ROM. I am on free gs3 right now and just tested my movies, playback works fine.

I don't think it works. I tried it with a S4 and a N7 and it hasn't worked. I don't think Sammy's sbeam is compatible with the N7 nfc transfer... Two Google devices yeah, but a Sammy and a Google device? Doesn't work for me...

I have a nexus and an S3 and it works fine. I tried replicating the issue and it worked fine for me. First question is, are you on a custom ROM? Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but just putting that out there.
Second, my nfc settings on S3 are with android beam on, so beam off.
Also make sure that you are placing the nfc sensors together, as it can be difficult to find on the nexus.
Lastly, I love using an app called SuperBeam, which allows me to share files between my two devices. It's like S beam for galaxy phones, except for all nfc android phones.
Best of luck!

My s3 also s4 when trying to beam to my N7 are both directed to the play store. When I run an aosp romn the s4 it works fine with the n7 and android beam. I think touchwiz messes it up.

Disable S-Beam and enable Android Beam and it will work with the Nexus 7 or any NFC enabled android device.
it will work only by opening the bluetooth not the wifi for the transfer...so for large files it's not so fast transfer. ..

Hi. Maybe someone has had the same experience and can help me. Recently I tried watching one of my purchased Play Store movies. I can not get it or any others to play. Either they do not play at all, I get an error with random numbers, or they play for 9 seconds then freeze. When they freeze at 9 seconds, the sound start making scratchy notices then it will loop back to 0 seconds and start over.
This is just on my Galaxy S3. Works fine on my Nexus 7. Also if I use my Galaxy S3 to stream to my ChromeCast it works fine.
I have looked online and xda for info and have found a few others cases, but no fixes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Play Movies. Cleared cache and data from Play Movies and others system apps. Remove/disabled any mods. Hid root. I'm currently on Wicked Sensations MK3, but it used to work on it. But just to check I have also flashed other ROMs including a Stock Rooted MK3. Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas. Maybe I will go back to a MD4 ROM and see if it helps.
