Hi. Maybe someone has had the same experience and can help me. Recently I tried watching one of my purchased Play Store movies. I can not get it or any others to play. Either they do not play at all, I get an error with random numbers, or they play for 9 seconds then freeze. When they freeze at 9 seconds, the sound start making scratchy notices then it will loop back to 0 seconds and start over.
This is just on my Galaxy S3. Works fine on my Nexus 7. Also if I use my Galaxy S3 to stream to my ChromeCast it works fine.
I have looked online and xda for info and have found a few others cases, but no fixes. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Play Movies. Cleared cache and data from Play Movies and others system apps. Remove/disabled any mods. Hid root. I'm currently on Wicked Sensations MK3, but it used to work on it. But just to check I have also flashed other ROMs including a Stock Rooted MK3. Thanks in advance if anyone has any ideas. Maybe I will go back to a MD4 ROM and see if it helps.

My wife received a replacement phone and her netflix has no video. Everything works until you get to the actual video where the sound plays and everything shows (e.g. timer at bottom), but there is no video. I've tried various ROMs and OS version (4.0.1-4.0.4). I set it up to mirror my phone exactly and then even restored my nandroid on her phone but still nothing!
Anybody else have this problem and may be a fix??
Thanks!
I've been having this same thing happen using the Netflix app on my tablet. I just let it play for ten seconds or so and then grab the slider and pull it back to the beginning. Picture shows up and the video plays fine from there on out.

Hey guys searched for this before posting but couldnt find an answer. I bought some movie's from the google play store and when I go to play them it gives an error. Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and if there is a way to fix it. Thanks for any help
try OTA rootkeeper on play
Download an apk called " hide my root" free in the play store.

Thanks guys for the help. But that didn't solve the problem. Any more ideas of what could be going on?

Long ago confirmed that Google flicks won't play on rooted devices. As to possible workarounds, sorry, IDK.

yeah google play movies do play on rooted devices..I have a Rooted Nexus 7 and my free transformers movie plays on it. I had an issue on my GS3 playing the same movie but I did a clean wipe and went to a new ROM and I can now play the transformers on my Rooted GS#

Hey TDC I was running the latest rooted ICS leak. ch1 I think. I was on the somewhat modded leak ch1 when I was having an issue. And I am now on the JB TWiz port and the transformers is playing/streaming fine for me.. I would suggest a wipe and retry and if you restore apps try just restoring the app and not app + data

triangle away worked for my on my verizon s3. it was driving me nuts trying to get the videos working, thanks.
So I have some purchased movies from Google. I recently tried to play one. It loads up, starts playing, and plays the first 9 seconds, buffers, jumps back to second 8 and boot loops between second 8 and 9 constantly. I went to Play Store and tried everything they suggested to troubleshoot the issue. Cleared cache. Pinned(downloaded the movie) for offline viewing. I even deleted it from system and reinstalled it. Nothing works. It plays 9 seconds and bootloops. I searched Google and XDA and couldn't find any threads relating to this issue. I have contacted Google directly and am awaiting a response.
Anyone else who can confirm this issue? Im running stock rooted LG8.

Correct Answer, you cannot play Google movies on a rooted phone or tablet, has to be stock. DRM(digital rights management) comes in to play which checks for root access, if root, then no play, because its easier to pirate a movie with root access

Not true, movies work on my rooted nexus7 and this phone as well. Google updated play to stop root issues and playback a couple months ago. I'm using cm10 on my phone and just downloaded all my movies as well as watched one, tablet is on paranoid ROM.
Earlier I was on codename, which would not let me download any movies.

Google made a big point last year (or was it hte year before?) to say that rooted devices will not be able to stream movies from Google.
I wonder if maybe AOSP ROm's like CM10 don't include the DRM APK's that would report on root to Google?
Still no response from Google. Still no movies streaming.
Google does allow rooted devices to stream. Im now running a stock jellybean rom leak. Still having the same exact problem.
I'm facing this issue too.. rooted deodex'd LJ7 build. I've seen some ROMs have removed DRM or something... Is that a way to get around this problem?
Try a different ROM. I am on free gs3 right now and just tested my movies, playback works fine.

Well this is troubling.. I flashed a stock odex'd rom and still facing the problem.
flashing sextape's stock tar now.. :\ hoping this helps

stock unrooted ROM did not present this issue.. Even after rooting no issue.
When I flashed a deodex'd rom is where I encountered this problem. This sucks lol
issues here as well

I'm on a Galaxy S4 rooted deodexed and no custom kernel lets me play movies past 9 seconds besides stock kernel.
Hello all. I have a GT-N7100 running liqidsmooth ROM. I cannot run Netflix, it gets to loading film and stays there. I changed ROM back to Hawkish extreme ROM with a stock kernel, and lo and behold it worked got to load film screen and it streamed it straight away. Could my problem be to do with the non stock kernel(Liquidsmooth). So my question really is, is there a stock kernel that I could flash. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. By the way I also tried Avatar ROM.

Had this issue myself, my google skills told me that netflix uses a different video player on 4.2 roms, which all kernels (that I know of) dont seem to support. There is an xposed plugin that tricks netflix into thinking you have ICS, which then causes the app to use the video player that most kernels actually support.
User MikeySmikey has posted the details here.
Well thanks for enlightening me. I am going to try this straight away. I will post back the results. Once again thank you for the info.

On every AOSP ROM I've tried, I can't seem to find a way to play my movies from Google in HD or download them in HD. They only play in sd quality. And download a file that's only 200MB prior to the HD file that's supposed to download which is 2gigs+ does anyone else have this problem or found a fix for it? I really like what AOSP has turned out to be but I keep coming back to TW cuz of my movies.

Are you using an AOSP built for the new bootloader (4.4.2)? The new device tree has issues with hd
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Yes I am and even before that I couldn't watch HD movies. It's been like that since the old boot loader
Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk
I had issues with watching HD Google play movies on AOSP with the old bootloader too but YouTube and downloaded videos were fine. Now I only experience the problem with HD on AOSP when on the new builds. I'm still on the 4.3 bootloader so I have the option to choose thankfully. I haven't tried Google play for videos lately though. I just use moviedroid for my video watching needs.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Hmmm. How did you get it to work on the 4.3 boot loader?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I haven't had Hd video issues on 4.3 AOSP since way early builds so I can't answer that. It was more a change done to the ROM by the developer.

This is still an issue for me btw.
I'm in the same boat. Luckily, I can at least cast them to my Chromecast, but it does suck not being able to watch them on my device if I'm away from my TV.
I have this issue on both my 2012 Nexus 7 (running CM11) and my Droid RAZR HD (XT926) running CM11, Gummy, etc.
It only works when I'm on stock KK for both devices.
Not sure if it's an issue with AOSP in general (seems to be) or an issue with GAPPs. I don't think it's GAPPs as I've removed and reinstalled Google Play Movies from the Google Play store.
I also notice that I cannot send apps to my phone from the Google Play web page if I attempt to install from the web page.

I'm wondering of its because you're rooted. I remember when Google play movies could not play on rooted devices. I had to use voodoo to unroot & root again to get it to play.

Ummm I don't think so because my note 3 is running a rooted stock ROM but I think it's a kernel issue because I put a custom kernel on my stock ROM and it made google play movies to stop playing completely
I just don't know what is making custom kernels not google play movie friendly

I agree. Under stock, I'm rooted and movies will play. Under non-stock roms, they won't work except via Chromecast.

Yea or anything with a custom kernel. This is the only phone that I have a problem with Google play movies playing. That's why I'm stuck in Stock rooted rom. The only rom that didn't cause trouble for me was wicked
