Hello,
My wife had her Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100 repaired at a private lab, they replaced the screen and some chips on the main board.
We received the phone today, and I noticed that the android version is 4.1.1 so I connected the device to KIES on my PC to update the android version to 4.3 but then I got a message on KIES that my phone does not support updates from KIES...
I realy don't know what to do in this situation, can someone PLEASE help me how can I still update to android 4.3 ? maybe download it and use Odin or somethig...
I realy appriciate your help.
Try to check Settings>About Device>Status>Device Status if it says Custom bevause Kies does not allow firmware upgrade if that is set to custom.
Have you verified that 4.3 is out for your country?
You could try to initialize the firmware upgrade through kies by entering your product code and kies will find the right formware for you.
Or you can visit http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ to look for your stock rom.
Hope this helps.

I went to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/2/ but there are no download links. There is only the following message:
"Hotfile has been shudown. A download link to Terafile.co will be presented as soon as the firmware is uploaded. We are busy uploading all files to the new host. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Thats because hotfile.com has been shut down on which sammobile used to host firmware files for all samsung devices and so it will take some time to upload firmwares to a new host site.
Till then you can try 4.3 based roms.

Official samsung 4.3 comes with a new bootloader containing knox void warranty flag which is so far I know is irreversible.
If u r sure u want to have it, u can just get official 4.3 from sammy.
Otherwise, as said earlier, it is good to try 4.3 rom which is knox-free, so u can reverse back anytime to older firmware.
So far dr. Ketan thread guide nd rom for n7100 4.3 rom is safe if u don't like the new bootloader with KNOX.

I don't think so. It's a custom rom.
U need to root first nd install cwm, so u won't get ota update from sammy anymore.
But since it is a knoxfree rom, u can always downgrade back to stock 4.1.2 official anytime u like.
There's a complete guide on the thread. Just read carefully nd understand first before u give it a go.

I don't know much about CWM, can you please help me out here...?
I fount 2 CWM Recovery on the play store: MK802 4.0.3 and MK802 4.0.4 and I have no idea which one I need or what to do with it...
summing up the flashing a firmware into 3 major ways
1. via samsung kies .. most secure reliable way .. you keep your warranty no worries no effort ..
2. via pc odin .. you download the files ( vary from official to modded rom be careful here what you are using) then install it on the phone ... need pc nothing more
3. via custom recovery ... (for Note 2 phliz cwm or TWRP ) this are like dos to the windows it let you manage the mobile even if it don't have a system(rom) or even manipulate the current system .... need to be installed via pc odin ..alot of learning but the most efficient and easiest once you get the hang of it but get's you of the official statues of samsung so your warranty is void but that's is reversible
about the knox bootloader if you flashed it and made the statues custom it's irreversible .. you voided the warranty for good that's all to it ..
To be clear...

1.I wish I could use samsung kies, but I can't use because the device already has a custom rom and kies does not recognize it.
2. I don't know a bout any other roms to use with odin and I downloaded dr.ketan's rom but it is not to use with odin.
3. If not kies and not odin, must I use CWM ? or can I not use it because I still don't have any idea what this means and how to use it...

seems your device already rooted..
so you need to know what exactly you want
1. 4.1 or 4.3?
2. custom ROM or stock ROM?
3. do you care about warranty?
think of these. It took me 2 weeks to figure this & i decided to void warranty & use Ditto rom

Hey guys
I recently rooted my Galaxy Note II but now that the multi-screen update is out I want to unroot it to be able to update my mobile phone. How can I do so without re-flashing my device? I also looked for the newer build that contains the multi-screen functionality but I couldn't find the one for my region (UAE). So please if anybody finds it please post the link because I think it would be so much easier and faster...
I am afraid I was on the same position like yours and I did unroot, just go to SU and select the option to Unroot and SU will be uninstalled and your device will be unrooted for sure but some trace will still be there and device status will stay as 'Custom'. Even if you use the Play Store version of Trinagle Away and reset the counters! To make it official either you have to perform a Full wipe, if that don't do it, then you have to re-flash the whole ROM.
Unless and until your device status and binary both are Official you WON'T be receiving any update via OTA or Kies.

Hi there
If you are rooted you can still get Over The Air updates so dont worry
You can find all stock ROMs here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696
And there is no need to Unroot to flash a newer version of stock ROM. Unroot or keep rooted, flashing a rom will have the same effect, and updare over the air will have sane effect :good:
Hit thanks if i helped
I can absolutely confirm no need to unroot - I rooted mine immediately I received it last week, after a couple of days it automatically updated ota to multiscreen.

Thats wrong.
I myself have updated OTA with root.
And its also wrong that you will not get OTA update. Lol we even get OTA updates on totally customized Custom Roms but they cant be updated because of change kernel (and changes in rom ofc).
And lol he is quoting dr.ketan and saying that he is wrong. dr.ketan is a recognized contributor so he would be correct or this person? i stand and testify dr.ketan's statement

No need to bash me friend. I am not questioning anybody, I just asked 'why'? I don't think it's unfair. And I am not the ONLY person. I have see other persons have the exact same problem like me.
And another thing, do you really think this RC/RD/Thanks meter stuffs mean that much? I am not questioning Dr.Ketan's credibility by ANY MEANS but you know what I mean!
One thing, what I've said is applied to them who have rooted with either Chainfire's Stcok recovery or Chenglu's Advanced recovery, can't say about any other thing.

If you have installed OTA update directly from the phone itself then rooting via auto-root is going to trip your KNOX Warranty BIT.
If you are not concerned about it then yes you can try auto-root or any other method.
Not worried about Knox just want root with no problems.

Hello All.. After over 5 years of flashing I think I have finally bricked my device.. I am normally great with directions and the forum however I think the latest 4.3 update got me twisted up. Odin'd back to stock and upgraded OTA. All was well.. Then I attempted Chainfire's CF root.. All was well and I froze on a phone call.. I battery pulled and now I get "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again".. I tried to go through Kies emergency recovery and it wont accept my serial numbers.. I called t-mobile they told me I need to bring it to a smasung dealer to get "flashed"... I'm at a lost now.. One thing else is when I access download mode I see this Knox Warranty Void : 1.. Does this mean I'm done? I've been trying to read up on this knox and it seems scary to say the least.. yet nothing I read has helped me.. After hors of searching and missing the football game I decided to look to the forums.. Any help is very much appreciated. :crying:
I tried to ODIN back to stock with several .tar files (UVBMB4 and UVALJ1) it fails and shows unsupported version(in red) on the device

Hello @serein1,
Are you 100% sure you completed the saferoot instructions completely? Also, a good way to test if you do have root is to download Root Checker Also from mine and my friends experience with samsung repairs, they don't care about having a rooted status or a custom status if it has to do with hardware. But, Not everyone is the same at samsung ... Also check if Knox is voided because safe root does not trigger Knox to be disabled. Lastly, if you don't want to risk not getting it repaired I would flash Stock rom using Odin.
Downgrade to stock 4.1.2 rom, then root it, use triangle away to reset the counter and then do the compete unroot.
Done.

I am sorry to hijack the topic but have about the same prob.
eally just need a link for a stock rom 4.1.2 and the instructions to make it work with odin.
I mean where to put the files in pda phone and so on.
Thanks everyone
I have tried the instructions as mentioned for the safe root
it gives error unsupported device and then goes away
there's another thing I have noticed the safe root command prompt window on the top says S4 and not note 2 however I have downloaded the safe root from the note 2 forum section
The knox counter is already set to 1 now DAMN
I also would like to go back to the 4.1.2 and while downgrading using the ODIN it says unsupported on the phone screen and doesn't flashes the phone
How do we downgrade from the 4.3 that has the knox to the 4.1.2
thanks again

Try to find some firmware on sammobile site or here on xda (just search for the word stock).
After that You put the phone into a download mode, connect it to a PC and choose the downloaded (extracted) firmware under the pda/ap button.
Thanks that worked and it is back to stock now.
Now just get the flash counter back to 0 again.
Everything worked out fine and is temporarly replaced by an s3

My note 2's warranty gets over this month. I was thinking of rooting now using kingo as it seems the easiest method for a noob like me. Can you someone tell me if OTA updates will be problem after the root? Will a be able to get it as KitKAt is just around the corner?
Moreover is my decision to stick with kingo correct?

Thanks Ashraf bhai. I was under the impression that if i dont freeze anything i can get the OTA update easliy. If thats not the case i think i will wait for kitkat and then root as this is definitely not my cup of tea.
Flashing through odin wipes the phone clean and i am not much of a back up guy.

If u have stock recovery u can do OTA even after root... Do some changes before OTA

What is your build no. presently?
You do not need to worry about OTA update as you can receive it with the method mentioned above.
Can you tell me what do you want to do after rooting so that I can guide you correctly.

my firmware version is dduena1. I dont want to do anything specific. Just curious and want to experiment.
Already tried kingo and saferoot method listed in the link below. both of them dont work on this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2618261
I am looking for a method that doesn't require flashing so as to reatin all the data.

The easisest y to root would be Cf-autoroot. if you are NOT Knoxed..!!
Else the best possible way is to flash a pre rooted rom.. It makes life easy..! Dont run away from flashing bhai..!!

I have my guide but that involves flashing a custom recovery.
But that is if you want to change your ROM.
That method works 100 percent.
If you want to stay on the stock rom use CF-Autoroot.

There is no method to root without tripping knox on NA1 and ML4.
But you can get ota updates even after tripping knox.
And you will have problems with root access on stock rom because of knox.
If you like touchwiz head over to DN3 ROM. I use it as a daily driver and it's rock stable.

Edit: After rooting stock rom if you delete knox apps then you cannot get OTA updates because your system partition has been modified.

Bhai dekh..! Life is ws not so easy
We would love you to stay on stock..! But the moment you get into a habit of playing around with things you will not go back..!
I am using Kitkat since 1 month..! No issues at all..!! Before OTA comes to you we get OTA on xda LOL..!!
Life is really fun being here.. You can guess that by the numbers of post i have made..!
I have used Note 3 features.. S5 features..! SHOWOFF..!! Being a punjabi that comes naturally to me..!!
YOu need to see your download counter in order to check if you are Knoxed..! even if you are does not matter,,
Meri maano
Root by flashing a Pre-rooted Rom that has an old bootloader IF that works ..! The max you can do is SOft brick which is easly recoverable..
And then explore the world or ROMS..!!
We are there to help you

by deleting data i mainly meant the installed apps and stuff. Contacts and all is a minor issue as they are synced over google anyway.

Thanks for the encouragement  can you point me towards a good and simple pre rooted rom where it also lists the steps to be followed. I need a proper tutorial to get my hands dirty Never flashed anything before.
Mods: i searched and searched but couldnt find a clear answer so i had to ask..
Need help updating my S3 that i have as my extra phone which i hardly ever used lately since upgrading to the note 2 then Note3
It's currently on rom : SS odexed Blue Holly Grail 2.5 LJ7 4.1.1 baseband LJ7
I haven't modded this phone in a very long time.. I see that there is now 4.4 roms available and been searching over and over on how to go from this rom to a higher version of android.. everything i keep finding is either outdated and links are no longer available.. or the options to update are from 4.3 to 4.4 but im still on 4.1.2
I also need to upgrade to atleast to 4.1.2 so that i am able to flash this phone to page plus and the steps/guide and programs that i will be using required that..
1) Do i need to go back to stock rom first ?
2) Is there a One click Odin zip to go back to stock
3) is there a One click Odin zip to upgrade ?
Dont really care about having to be rooted on this phone as this is just my second line and my NOTE 3 is properly customized...
Please help..
TIA.

If you don't want stock but want TouchWiz I suggestThis awesome ROM:

[ROM][ND8][4.4.2] Wicked X v8.0 [Updated 8/17/14]

No, just use Odin to flash the stock ND8 ROM, then flash your custom recovery. Boot into ROM ( it'll take a while ) update PRL and profile, then flash another ROM if you want
