Hello,
I am new to this forum, and I have read through a lot of the links and threads about this, but I have not found the answer to my question. Will these ROM Updates work on a HTC S621 that I have through Unicel? The phone is unlocked, but I dont know if that means that I still have to download the file that will unlock my phone? I am very interested and eager to upgrade my pnone to Windows Mobile 6.1, but I am honestly afraid that my inexperience with doing something of this nature will "brick" my phone and I will be without a phone. It irrates me to no end that neither HTC or Unicel are going to bother to come out with an official update for this phone, so if I want the lastest update to the phone, I have to go through unofficial channels. Could someone please tell me if this will even work for my phone before I try to do it? Thank you
Larry
Yes it will work sir, just follow the tutorial and upgrade... The tutorial is linked below in my signature... Also, as a beginner I would recommend using Ricky's rom version 24. ... if you need any help let me know okay... also, make sure you run connection setup after the upgrade...
Am I going to have a problem, or should I do something different since the instructions seem to be written for a phone on T-Mobile? I am really fretting about bricking my phone and I dont know if Unicel will do anything for me if I happen to brick the phone because I did something wrong. I would really like to try flashing the ROM on the phone to Windows Mobile 6.1, but I am just nervous, I guess. Thanks for the help and wish me luck
Larry
You should be fine if you read it over (print it out) and can follow directions. The main problems people run into are keyboard layouts and 270 errors.

Yah exactly just read and follow instructions word for word...
nobody on this site can promise that nothing will go wrong, but it is usually determine that when something does go wrong, it is because the instructions were not being followed.
you sound a little too nervous to me to be trying this, you may want to either find someone else to do this for you, or take a deep breath, have a beer, and then dive in.
i've done this three times without an issues.
I did it to my unicel S621, and works wonderful! pm me if you need the internet settings after...
He will definitely need the internet settings... for sure...
yes, I need the internet settings please. also, how do I get rid of the "fav5" thing off the phone?
Thanks

which version are you using? which rom version (i.e. are you using Rickys or Kavana's)
If you are using Ricky's go all the way down to the last thing on the homescreen which should be settings... and then scroll to the right to Chome settings and then in there you can unclick everything you do not like... everything that is bolded will show up on your homescreenv and everything not bolded will not show up..... then restart your phone and you should be on the go...
Hello,
Okay, I have successfully installed "Ricky's" ROM. I followed the steps to the letter in the newbie thread. I installed the keymapping .CAB file. My phone needs the Unicel Internet settings. I have once before reset my phone back to factory specs, which required that I have to go into the local Unicel store and get the internet settings and install them, the problem now is that I could use Wi-Fi to access the internet before with my phone, even though I couldnt through my data plan/cell service. Since I updated the ROM, I cannot even access the new through Wi-Fi. In the instructions, it states that you should run the connection wizard, but the problem is it only lists T-Mobile, AT&T, and Carolina in my phone, not Unicel. I know that the GSM partner of Unicel was bought by AT&T, but I dont want to set my phone to that because I dont know if it will screw everything up if I do.
So what advice can you offer me? Will getting the Internet Settings from Unicel or member Outragis solve all of my problems? Thank you for any suggestions! By the way, I Love the new Windows Mobile 6.1, now I just have to learn how to use it!
Thank You,
Larry

Yes just private message that guy that said has the Unicell internet settings as you will need them in there and especially for receiving MMS (picture messages)... so just ask him to give them to you and I bet he will be more than happy to provide you with them.
I did PM him, I hope to hear back from him soon. I Imagine I would need to use Active Sync at home to download the updates to my phone.
Thanks for the help and advice, I am really liking the new interface!

I need Help!
Okay, so I am trying to find the files I need so that my HTC S621 that I have through Unicel to work and connect to the internet. I have contacted Unicel and they sent me a link to a file, and this is supposed to work, but it doesnt.
Here is the email:
Subject: Doing a Hard reset on the HTC621 will remove all Unicel settings
Issue/ Findings:
After doing a hard reset on the HTC S621 you will no longer have any Unicel settings and will need to reinstall them for WAP and MMS. To hard reset the HTC S621 (with the HTC S621 powered OFF) press and hold the 2 soft keys and than press the power button. Do not let go of the soft keys until you see the message to reset your HTC by pressing the send button.
Resolution:
The setting can be reinstalled into the HTC S621 by using a CAB file and a Micro SD card. The File has been posted on the internet and can be installed 2 ways.
Option 1: Active sync
From your PC go to http://www.unicel.com/devices/htsc621.html and download the zip file to your PC. Open the zip file and extract all the files within to your PC. Once this is done you should see the folder 2577 on your PC. Now connect your HTC S621 to your PC (you will need ActiveSync for this part and a memory card) and open Explore. Open “My windows mobile-based device”. Now drag or copy and paste folder 2577 from your PC to “Storage Card”. Once this is complete, unplug your device from your PC and power-cycle your device. After waiting a few seconds, you will get a prompt to do an auto-configure, press yes and your files will be installed. Once the auto-configure is complete, you will be asked to do a restart. Press yes to restart and all the settings the device had at the time of purchase should now be on the device.
After the device has power cycled, a change needs to be made to the GPRS Authentication to ensure connectivity. Please follow the steps below:
Start
Settings
Connections
GPRS
Unicel Info2Go
scroll to authentication type
CHAP
Done
End
Option 2: SD card reader
From your PC go to http://www.unicel.com/devices/htsc621.html and download the zip file to your PC. Open the zip file and extract all the files within to your PC. Once this is done you should now see the folder 2577on your PC. Now open your SD reader, with your memory card installed in the reader, drag the entire 2577 folder to the SD card. Once this action is complete, install the SD card into the S621 and turn on the device. After waiting a few seconds, you will get a prompt to do an auto-configure, press yes and your files will be installed. Once the auto-configure is complete, you will be asked to do a restart. Press yes to restart and all the settings the device had at the time of purchase should now be on the device.

Okay, so I downloaded the file and did what it said, but it is not auto running the file and doing anything. Is this because I upgraded the ROM and the file will not work with Windows Mobile 6.1? I am getting a little flustered and I love the new OS, but I would like to be able to use the internet on the phone. I cant even connect to the internet through Wi-Fi.
Does someone have the correct setting file for a Unicel HTC S621 that I could have to get my phone working right? I would appreciate it!
Thank You
Larry
Couldn't you just add them manually
Start - settings - then each add settings...
I'm surprised Unicel doesn't make them easier to access
This link might help but your easiest bet is getting the guy who commented to read you his.

Running out of memory?
I recently did the Kavana 6.1 upgrade on my Unicel/AT&T HTC S621. Everything is working fine except that the phone is constantly running out of memory (Which, actually, is not really fine...) Using the Free Memory app doesn't really work, as it will free only a KB or so, and it doesn't show the correct amount of RAM, in any case (usually around 5K instead of the 64K actually ob board). Any ideas?
Oh yes, and also, the phone now calls itself a C720W, which is a Dopod (Asian carrier) version of the S621... Anyone else?
Thanks,
John
SO i posted this in another thread, thought I'd start one here.
Im sure a lot of people are facing the same issue as I am. So any assistance would not only help me, but plenty of others as well. Here it goes:
I just joined XDA...if there ever existed a supernoob when it comes to phones, then thats me...i have almost absolutely no idea about flashing, roms and whatnot...i just know they exist
My problem is that I have a galaxy nexus, yakjuux, here in Canada, and as everyone else, thinking of flashing to yakju for the updates.
I have a black macbook, and I was reading on how to flash...and i just couldnt piece together all of the information thats available.
Anyone here generous enough to help me flash to yakju to get the updates?
walk me step by step as to how to flash...like literally step by step, with every bit of detail.
Im not completely dumb with technology, but its just with phones that I fail.
Thanks!!
time for some tough love... You need to start reading and figure it out. These exact threads, nearly word-for-word, have been posted for the last 3 months straight, and have been answered the exact same for 3 months straight. There are guides, stickies, posts, videos, etc. all sitting in these forums. You are seriously going to get yourself into some nasty **** if you just let someone tell you what to do and you have absolutely no idea what's going on while you're doing it. Search. Please.
Good luck.
Thanks martonikaj,
I understand the multitude of information available out there, but there is nothing for mac in terms of videos that helps flash from yakjuux to yakju.
If i missed something, would you be able to post it? I would be grateful.
Its just a matter of getting a guide that's concise and concrete.

There is nothing different about a Mac guide. In many ways its simpler. The only difference is that you need the Mac version of ADB and Fastboot files instead of Windows ones, and you need a "./" in front of the commands in Terminal (instead of Command Prompt). There are no "1 click" (toolkit) methods for OSX. Do it manually you'll be better for it anyway.
I've attached ADB and Fastboot files.
Got past that, serial number is not showing up though...aghh
is there no video to show how its done?

so you've downloaded and unzipped ADB and pointed Terminal to that folder, connected your phone and enabled USB debugging, and type "./adb devices" and nothing shows up?
umm yeah I did all of that...
i sent you a message!
Sorry for the stress haha, tough love indeed it is...but this is driving me crazy...

On computer:
1) unzip Mac_ADB_Fastboot.zip
2) Move files somewhere, like your <user name> folder
3) Open Terminal
4) type "cd " and drag the unzipped Mac_ADB_Fastboot file into the Terminal window (or manually navigate if you know how to do that) and hit enter
On phone:
1) turn on USB debugging in developer options
2) connect phone via USB
There is literally nothing else to do to get the computer to recognize the device.
Hi guys! Thanks in advance for your help.
I think I need a serious Android Guru to help me figure this one out. What I'm looking for is the origin of the text displayed on the "Full Disk Encryption" screen that's shown on bootup of an encrypted device.
In other words, when you boot an encrypted device, it prompts, asking "please enter the password to unlock this device" or something similar... In the ROM I'm using, that text is in Hungarian. I would like, at the very minimum, to convert that back to English. However, I thought it would be extremely cool to replace it with my contact info, in case I lose the device and it gets rebooted.
So does anyone know where that text string is stored on the device? Would it be plausible to be able to edit that text, even through a hex editor?
Thank you guys SO much. I've searched everywhere (and quite exhaustively) and havent found a single solution, or even a hint thereof. My next option is to dump the contents of a ROMs ZIP and do a grep.
Wow, no one?
(Sorry about the bump. I thought I posted this two days ago.)
I'm still unable to find any info to help answer this question? Would anyone out there please help me out? I did a dump and I still can't find it. I don't know what else to do?
Thank you SO much!
Apparently, its a mystery that no one knows. I even asked in the DJL ROM's thread and it was ignored.
If anyone can help, please let me know? Thanks,

I don't think its possible but have you set the contact info on lock screen? Maybe that'll help or you can always turn encryption off and set a screen lock
I have been looking online for 3 days trying to get a definite answer on one thing. Is there anyway I can recover pictures off the phone.
The short is that the phone froze and would not respond. Pushing the power button for a while and then let off it rebooted but stuck on the Samsung screen. Most people respond to similar issues to do a factory reset which wipes your data.
I saw one other forum that discussed finding someone witha JTAG rig but I dont think i am going to have access to this and dont know anyone who does. They also mentioned ADB but i am not sure if i can use this or not. I do have drivers installed for my device on the PC and when I plug the phone in it recognized that a device has been plugged in and the drivers loaded but i did show that 'MTP USB Device' failed.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...alaxy-s3-frozen-start-screen-help-please.html
When I started to crate this thread i saw about 5 similar threads. None of them answered my question. One that was linked from it confuses me though.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/flashing-rom-s3-change-setting-t1958368
So I have ADB and fastboot installed on my box. I want to give something a try but i am just not sure exactly what direction to start in to hopefully reach my goal of getting the phone up so i can grab the pics via USB. I saw where ADB could have uses such as 'pull' which could pull data off so hypothetically it could be possible to say pull the contents of the dir off but again not sure.

So, even when I buy a GS3 or any other phone i usually have 1gig or so for the OS and then an internal storage for keeping data. So my thought, and I understand I could be wrong here, is that I SHOULD be able to flash the current factory image (like overwriting the existing) or along side the existing without touching the internal storage with the data (the 16/32gigs). I want to give something a try and not lose the pics. I would certainly appreciate some links to help me figure out what to do next. Thanks in advance.
Sprint SPH-L710 stock, un-rooted without 3rd party recover (TWRP, etc). I can boot into recovery and get a 'no command' message. Deleting cache has not helped. Leaving batt out for a while has not helped. I think its running 4.3.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
You will definitely need to ask the experts who own your device for help on this, so I will have your thread moved to your device section.
Good luck!
I have an HTC M8 phone and I set a pattern lock, and then stupidly forgot what it was. Everyone has been telling me to do a factory reset, but some of my photos are not backed up anywhere and I do not want to lose them. I need help either figuring out how to get into my phone, or how to recover the pictures that are on my locked phone. I have my Google account information, but that does not seem to be any help really. Please help!
Thank you!
Do you have a custom recovery? Even if not you should be able to boot to recovery, connect to pc, and in cmd prompt where your adb is(usually platform-tools in the Android sdk) type
adb pull /sdcard
That will download your entire sdcard to your computer. Could also just do adb pull /sdcard/DCIM to only get the camera pictures, other pics are in /sdcard/Pictures

After you enter the wrong pattern enough times, does the phone give you the option to sign on via your Google login?
Be aware that the security passwords and patterns exist for a reason, and its not commonly discussed here how to circumvent them. Such knowledge can be used by criminals that steal phones.
Also, I know this doesn't solve your issue, but its far too common to see posts like this. Waiting for a disaster to happen is not the right time to realize you should have been backing up your data. With all the options (SD card, sync to PC, cloud solutions - some built in) there is really no excuse not to be doing so.

No , it does not give me that option which is frustrating as that is what many have told me to do. And yes I know, I'm kicking myself for not backing everything up. It has been a few months since I uploaded everything to my laptop. And at this point I was trying any possible option, and was given this forum to try to find help.
I am not sure to be honest... I'm not very knowledgeable about all this which is why I am having such a hard time. How do I boot to recovery? And every time I connect to my pc, it wont let me get any photos from the phone.

If the phone is stock (never rooted, bootloader unlocked, etc.); and you don't know what custom recovery is, than you don't have it.
