So, my phone just suddenly crashed and rebooted, and got stuck in a boot loop, just showing the Google screen over and over.
I can boot into recovery just fine but I tried clearing the caches and data, and tried a factory reset, but I still have the problem.
For some reason the sdcard won't mount inside recovery, so I can't just flash a new rom either.
Ideas?
after wiping data, system cant mount to data partiton.
1. using nexus root toolkit..
2. push folder( nandroid backup- if any)
3. put the correct path. ( /data/media/0/TWRP/backups/...../folder_name
4. can found this path on recovery folder log
5. restore recovery..
if still got issue.. make another fake nandroid restore to sd.. this time, usually system can mount sd data
sorry for my bad english

I have a Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) which I just rooted for the first time. I used fastboot to unlock it, and installed clockworkmod and superuser.
I then downloaded the Vicious Jelly Bean V3 ROM to my phone and flashed it (from the Downloads folder in my SD card, not from the root. I didn't realize it had to be in the root directory).
Now whenever I start my phone, I see the Google logo, then the new Jelly Bean "x" boot animation, but then it restarts itself back to the Google logo after about 30 seconds, and continues this way in an infinite loop - the phone won't boot up.
I can access the bootloader (by holding down the volume keys and power button) but I can't, say, flash back to stock ICS, because I can't transfer files to the my phone's SD card until my phone has fully booted up.
I tried wiping the cache partition and doing a factory reset, but the problem persists. What should I do?
First, make sure you're flashing a Verizon ROM, and if you are, I would suggest doing a format of your /system, /data, and /cache. Then install the ROM again from CWM. That should fix any errors you may have.

How can I install a ROM from CWM without my phone booting up? I've tried formatting /data, and /cache, but I'm still stuck on the boot animation. Unfortunately I don't have a backup.
How do you format /system?

In CWM I believe it's under Mounts and Storage.
EDIT: I use TWRP recovery, so I'm just going off of memory here.
You can still put any zip file on your SD without booting your phone up fully, you'll need to use adb commands to do it.
You'll need to open a command prompt window, change directory (cd) to where you keep your SDK folder (eg. cd sdk/platform-tools), put the ROM zip file in your SDK/platform-tools folder to make it easy, and then under the CWM menu Mounts and Storage select "mount /data" (it may already be mounted).
Then in the command prompt window, type: adb push Example.zip /data/media/
That'll push the ROM zip file to the root of your sd card. Don't enter Example.zip, type the name of the actual ROM zip file, I just used Example.zip as the example. See my screen shot of the commands.
I'm on the latest AOKP Jelly Bean build. Everything was working perfectly fine until I rebooted by phone after a charge. It gets stuck at the Google screen for about 4 or 5 minutes then just goes black. I can get into Clockworkmod, but it's showing a whole bunch of errors every time I try to do anything "E: Can't open cache/recovery/log, E: Can't mount cache/recovery/log". It also will not mount the SD card.
Please help!!!
I had this problem when I first unlocked the bootloader and rooted. Do a search for returning your phone to stock. You only need to do the last step that flashes the system partition. You will lose your data, but your phone should work.
This is the site I used, step 6 only:

Use Odin http://db.tt/PVsnbLIM
And flash this https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/mysid-imm76k-factory-98d21321.tgz
If you want to attempt to save ur data boot into recovery and with using adb from a PC run
adb pull data/media.. and see if it works. try to mount /data first but I have a feelin its gone

If you can get into CWM, what happens if you do a wipe of system, data and dalvik then reboot?
If that fails, your next step is to try and reflash a new ROM image, but that could be tricky if you don't already have a ROM image on the sdcard partition on the phone. I don't know how you can copy a new image over to the phone if you can't boot to Android. If anyone knows how to do that, it would be useful to know...
CMW > mounts and storage > mount /data
adb push NAME OF File.zip /sdcard/
unmount /data
Flashed the latest stable Carbon rom yesterday and decided it wasn't for me so this morning I rebooted to TWRP and tried to run restore. The restore failed and the only error i see in the console is
Code:
E: error opening '/data/lost+found'
I went ahead and did the standard wipe (which also gave the same error, though it did not say failed) and rebooted, assuming it would just throw me back into carbon, but it got stuck in sort of a slow boot loop. I finally got back into recovery and now I'm at a bit of a loss. I saw only 2 suggestions, one being wipe /data and the other to flash back to stock with Odin. I'm not against wiping /data if someone could could either confirm that it would work or tell me if it's possible to backup some stuff from /data to my external sdcard or pc.
any advice would be appreciated, thanks
also sorry if this is the wrong place to post, I didn't see where else it would fit, says I can't post in the GS3 troubleshooting area.

Ok, I'm up and running again. I ended up formatting /data through twrp after I found out i could copy files over to external sd through its file manager.
so in case someone else runs into this:
assumes you have a twrp backup on the external sd
1. move important files with twrp's file manager to sd card
2. format /data
3. reboot recovery
3. standard wipe
4. restore backup from external
5. reboot system and cross fingers
can i ask ya'll a simple life saving question !?
i'm unable to wipe data/factory reset.. even dalvik cache.. phone restarts into recovery or just hangs at Samsung logo upon trying to recover from Nand backup where it just fails at the point of either kernel or data wipe to further go ahead and rewrite them from the backup itself.. could be partition error maybe!?
well i'm able to mount data, but then again fail to format, it just restarts the whole recovery again..
hence, i can't do any ROM flashing, nothing whatsoever.. any inputs!?
using Odin maybe i should just install the stock firmware .tar file n then try factory reset !? it would wipe internal SD i'm sure and maybe that works..
Help me out in this brethren plz, any inputs!? my phone's almost rendered useless..
i was using my fav DN4 ROM.. when i tried to replace my phone battery, it just got stuck on Samsung logo..
unable to mount data
I got same problem
in twrp I got unable to mount data
my battery get problem
then my note 02 getting stuck
I was using eclipse
what should i do
Hi all.
I backed up my i9195 stock ROM with TWRP (3.0.2 I believe) before installing CM13.
I wanted to go back to stock to restore some unsaved apps data, but was not able to restore the backup.
During first boot, after unlocking the SIM card I had hundreds of prompts saying "app xxx has stopped" (for all the apps on the phone I believe).
So I wiped Dalvik and cache, but after optimizing apps the phone got stuck on "starting apps" during boot. No way to go past this step.
Does anyone have an idea on how to fix this ?
Thanks !
You should wipe daevil cache and cache before restoring data. And it might also help if In twrp file manager you rename andriod folder in sd card(phone memory) and external card (memory card).
Then do factory reset and wipe then restore.
OK thanks for the tip about the android folder (I did all the wipes I could do). Maybe I should try to reboot without SD card first?
