[Q] How to flash baseband (modem) via Odin?

Hi all,
I have a Samsung Galaxy W which runs firmware version I8150ZSLM4 with baseband version ZSLM4, but I want to flash an Australian baseband for it to receive 3G 850MHz signal.
I have downloaded the Australian firmware (I8150TDULM1) and I'm planning to extract the baseband by this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658809
I have also downloaded Odin Multi Downloader v4.43 and Ancora.ops for Galaxy W from samfirmware.com.
Could someone tell me what steps I should take in Odin Multi Downloader? What boxes should I tick? Where should I drop my baseband? ('Phone' field?)
I just want to flash the baseband (modem). I don't want my data to be wiped.
P.S. I have even downloaded I8150ZSLM4 just in case I want to flash the Hong Kong baseband back.
open odin ancora...

wait your odin read your baseband

[Q] How to root galaxy note 8 5120 lte version?

How to root galaxy note 8 5120 lte version?
And do we have custom rom for this new version? Thanks!
Does framaroot works with this device?
It worked for me on 4.1.2 and then I flashed 4.2.2 via mobile odin without any problems.

Hi,
Can you pm me your method Pls as I have a friend who has the n5120
Sent from my GT-N5110 using xda app-developers app
Mine is the international version.
I just followed the instructions in the framaroot thread whilst still on 4.1.2.
Installed supersu, mobile odin, Titanium Backup and busy box from the play store.
Installed CWM and backed everything up.
Then I downloaded and flashed the UK 4.2.2 rom with mobile odin.
I wasn't as happy with the modem in the 4.2.2 so I extracted the modem.bin file from the Australian 4.1.2 and again used mobile odin to flash it.
That's it - it was one of the easiest I've ever done.

Hey Cheryanne
I am wondering if you could help me out? I want to know how you extracted the modem file, and flashed it. I installed the Civato ROM CivZ-FLEX-BEAM-REV3.6.1 + SphereXtreme and tried to go into a stock Australian Samsung 4.2.2 ROM zip file with 7zip, and I did find the modem.bin file. I copied it to another folder and tried to install it on the Note 8 through Mobile Odin, and no luck. I even tried normal PC Odin, and no luck. I tried zipping the file, and saving it as a .TAR but it didn't work.
Any chance for a bit more detail into how to extract and install a modem file? I have searched through the XDA site, but details are lacking (especially for the note 8)
You flash the actual modem.bin file through mobile Odin. It should be listed under the modem section after you find it through open a file and choose it on either your internal or external storage (wherever you saved it).
This is my 4.1.2 Aussie Modem for the gt-n5120: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/k8x61fe60ecd8th/9po6z1N7Ab
Please make sure you have a backup in recovery - I'm using TWRP these days as it also saves the efs.

Hey Cherryanne
Thanks for the guide and making your modem file available. I followed your instructions but had no success. Baseband did not change after Mobile Odin flash.
My process:
1. I downloaded your modem.bin file to my Note 8's External mem card.
2. Flashed it via the "modem menu" in Mobile Odin (clicked on modem, found the file, then clicked on "Flash Firmware")
3. Firmware went through flashing proceedure without any issues
4. Checked the baseband version in Settings--> About Device, and it didn't change from N1520XXCMG7 (UK one that comes with Civato's FlexBeam ROM).
Am I missing something really obvious??? Am I taking crazy pills???
Help me Cherryanne Kenobi...you're my only hope!!!
My Set-up is:
Tablet: Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 GT-N5120 LTE + WiFi
ROM: CivZ_FlexBeam Rev. 3.6.1-N5120-Multi_Region as per: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367151
Baseband: N1520XXCMG7
Build No.: JDQ39.N5120XXCMI1
Kernal: 3.0.31~CivZ-SphereXtreme-Rev-3.1
Recovery: Phil z as per: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287802
I always select the file I'm going to flash via "open file" but that shouldn't make a difference.

SOLVED
Ok, so the process of flashing a modem over another modem is as follows:
1. Extract a modem.bin file from a stock ROM of choice (I used Cherryannes dropbox 4.1.2 Australian Modem). But you could also simply download a stock ROM from SamMobile for your region, and then use a zip program (like 7Zip) to explore the ROM contents, and find the "modem.bin" file from that. Make a copy, and place onto your Note 8 (internal or external SD card).
2. Make sure you purchase the "Mobile Odin" app from Play store.
3. In Mobile Odin, find the "Modem" menu, select it, then navigate to the file called "modem.bin" that you got from the Stock Samsung ROM for your region.
4. After selecting, it will return you to the main Mobile Odin menu. Select "Flash Firmware" menu item.
5. Check the box that has "Wipe Davlik cache" so it is on.
6. Mobile Odin will now flash the modem.bin file.
7. If you check your Settings-->About device you will find that your baseband has not updated (well it didn't for me).
8. Press and hold the power button on the Note 8, and the recovery menu should come up (if you are using Philz touch recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2287802). Select "Reboot". Then a 4-way reboot option menu comes up. Select "Reboot into recovery".
9. Device will then shutdown and go into recovery. As it does so, it actually flashes the modem file at this point.
10. Restart will occur automatically, and android files will be updated.
11. After it boots, a check of the settings will reveal the baseband has been updated.
12. Done.
Thanks to cherryanne who pointed out the direction. Dumb luck got me the rest of the way.

Baseband won't update 4.2.2 to 4.4.2

Hi
I have a GT-I9195 with Android 4.2.2 xxxUBML4 baseband and buildnumber. If I update the device by Kies or flash it by Odin, everything works fine, except the baseband won't be updated, it is still baseband xxxUBML4 instead if xxxUCNH5 installed. So the Wifi doesn't work.
Even if I flash the modem itself by heimdall, it is still the old baseband installed, why? I have a Riff JTAG bridge, should I try to flash it directly?
My second device update worked fine.

semi-normal .... use modem.bin and make it .tar.md5 using tar md5 packer tool and flash 2 times using ODIN in CP section not ap
Thanks, I did an intermediate step and flashed xxUCNH3 first and then xxUCNH5 and now it works... strange
Got another device, I followed your hint, flashed the modem even two times but still no success. I flashed it back to the previous version and back again, even Kies does not work.
Is this firmware or the device corrupt? Have downloaded the firmware from sammobile
Update:
It seems that the modem is not release after a restart and can't be update. If I shutdown the mobile and remove the battery, the next modem download works.

No connectivity after baseband downgrade (I9195)

I'm trying to use galaxsim unlock to unlock my I9195. The app says that I need a baseband ending with MJ7 or older.
At the moment the phone is on stock firmware
I9195XXUCOD3, which is android 4.4.2.
I have tried using Odin to flash two different modem files, one is a MJ7 modem file that I downloaded on its own, the other one is one that I extracted from some older 4.2.2 firmware. In both cases they flash successfully, the phone boots up, but there is neither mobile nor wifi connectivity. I assume that this is because the older modem file is not compatible with the newer firmware? I have successfully extracted modem files from stock ROMs and flashed them in the past, so I'm fairly sure I'm doing that bit properly.
I have also attempted flashing the older 4.2.2 firmware in it's entirety, rather than just the modem file, but it won't flash because the bootloader is older than the current one.
Any help for how I go from here would be greatly appreciated.
edit: i have also now tried flashing the I9195UBUBNE2 brazilian firmware that allows for downgrading from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2. even with this firmware, there is still no connectivity after i flash the MJ7 modem. so as far as i can establish, any MJ7 or older modem is not compatible with the later bootloader?
