[CASE] Spigen Ultra Hybrid or Rearth Ringke Fusion ? - Nexus 5 Accessories

Hello, i have my Nexus 5 but i have a little question.
In your opinion, what is the best case :
http://www.spigen.com/nexus-5-case-ultra-hybrid.html
or
http://www.rearthusa.com/google-nexus-5-hybrid-fusion-case
I have already looking for these case on forum but i dont find good or bad comment.
What do you think?

Ignoring the 87 other posts regarding these 2 cases. I have the Rearth. It's nice. Doesn't fit perfectly with dbrand skin and xoskin says more good about tolerances than bad.

I have the ringke fusion, its really nice and slim, my phone already felt from hand height and nothing happen and that's what I expect from a case...
Envoyé de mon Nexus 5 en utilisant Tapatalk

I have the Spigen Ultra Hybrid.
I don't like how it makes your phone feel bulky and too big to fit in my pocket. It also weakens the magnetic pull of my InfiniApps Slyde CD Mount due to the clear plastic backing being really thick.
On the plus side, makes it feel like your phone is a tank and can take any drop.

Thanks you

+1 for the Spigen Ultra Hybrid!! Just got it today. Love the feel of it. Love the look of it. Definitely recommend this case. If only I got it a few days ago before I dropped my nexus and cracked my screen...

I have the Ultra but am waiting on the Fusion to show up. I really like the Ultra but not a fan of the button feel. It's just....odd.

You'll like the fusion, then. The button feel is perfect.

I was trying to decide between the two as well and ended up with the Fusion because of the button feel and being slightly thinner. I'm pretty happy with it so far, the button feel is the best of any case where there aren't cutouts for the buttons that I've ever used. Only one small complaint is that the edges of the case are kind of sharp but it really isn't bothering me that much.

I have the Ringke Fusion. I had it for my N4 as well which I liked so I figured I'd get the N5 version. Overall a pretty good case, although like cee-ach said the edges of the case are kind of sharp (wasn't like this on the N4). It's a bit annoying for me, mainly because I use LMT launcher, and when I swipe from the right edge of the screen my thumb always makes contact with the edge of the case.
I haven't tried the Ultra Hybrid but I ordered it a couple of days ago. Kinda wishing I ordered the Spigen Slim Armor instead.

Got myself the Ringke Fusion Hybrid Hard Case. Extremely light while also providing a high level of protection from bad drops and scratches. Definitely worth the $13. The only issue I have is that just below the power button side, the casing seems to be slightly loose although that didn't make any difference to the protection provided by the item itself.
Anyone else having the same issue? Any way to fix it?
My review score: 8.5/10
Would have given a 9 if not for this minor issue but it doesn't take away much

Does the ringke fusion fit snug? I heard that the spigen ultra hybrid is a bit loose and dust will collect inside the case.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk

I ended up getting the Ringke Fusion and I love it. It's very thin and light. Compared to my other case (Spigen Slim Armour), the Fusion feels more "naked" (as if I wasn't using a case). So far I've been using the Fusion a lot more now that I tried them both for a week.

Just wanted to add I've been using a Fusion Hybrid because it has solved an annoyance for me. Case-less my N5 was vibrating violently at high speaker volumes and that has completely disappeared since using the tightly fitted Fusion. Also my Shure earphones fit just fine so for those reasons I'd recommend the case.
It does have a bit of edging work that isn't 100% smooth and the headphone slot has a gap which can let in dust at the back. However that is probably why headphones fit properly.

You're right about the buttons. They are perfect. However, the rest of the case, I'm not too impressed. I have the same complaint as others about the sharp edges. It's really uncomfortable to hold it to your ear. I may try the sandpaper to knock down the edge a bit. I like that the USB port does not have a gap to the inside of the clear back but still wondering why the headphone jack does. Overall, not bad at all for an $8 case.
If Spigen fixed the buttons on the Ultra, I'd be back on that case in an instant.

I own both and they're both essentially identical, but if I had to choose it would be the Spigen because it's slightly better. I don't use either of these however.. I miss my UAG case and the closest thing to it that I could find was the Spigen Slim Armor.

My experience is quite the opposite. I wasn't happy with neither of two cases mentioned in this thread and I'm now using the slim armor. Not sure I agree with you on the "nakedness" and the slim armor basically adds no more bulk to the phone than the other cases do... I definitely feel a lot more comfortable with the slim armor case since it's not slippery.

cant decide

Having problems with spigen hybrid case keeps pressing power and volume buttons on its own, keeps making bug reports some how

i was curious why Ringke Fusion doesn't fit perfectly with dbrand skin, what's wrong?
also, how annoying are the rough edges of the case would you say?
are there any other alternative cases exposing the back worth considering?

SPIGEN Google Nexus 5 Slim [Ultra Fit] *pictures*

I just received my n5 plus the case and thought I might give my first impression on the " [Non-Slip] SPIGEN Google Nexus 5 Case Slim [Ultra Fit] [Smooth Black] Premium SF Coated Matte Hard Case" available on amazon.
First if all, the case fit perfectly on the phone with no play what so ever. It has an soft smooth feel almost close to the feel of the all black nexus 5. Although it probably won't provide as much protection as a bumper case or all around case it keep the profile of the phone very slim. It holds up very well against finger prints. I probably wouldn't recommend it to a person that drops their phone a lot. I had a ringke slim case on my n4 and never had a problem, even with a few drop my n4 is still in pristine condition.
How does it compare to the ringke? I not sure if the texture of the n5 ringke slim is the same as the n4 but it has a more firmed plastic touch then the spigen. I think it's worth the extra $1 or $2. Spigen also include a screen protector with this case.
At $9.99 on amazon prime it is a steal for the quality.

Im looking to get this one or the ringke slim! Waiting for pics! haha
I ordered the white one.
Can't wait to get my hands on it.
N5 coming tomorrow, case next week.
Look forward to the pics! Keep us updated
Goood, give us the pics
Pics please... Im waiting on my white one.
OP, did you get the screen protector too? How was it?
Heads up, it's the same price from spigen on eBay and comes with one of their pet screen protectors
The one I ordered through Amazon came with a screen protector. I was surprised because it did not mention anything about that on their page.
Thank you for the pics. Can you tell us what the fit is like? Is it comparable to the Ringke Slim for the N4? (most people on this forum own/owned both products ) Also, how does the build feel - cheap or premium? Thanks again.
The fit is perfect but it was the same on the ringke even after a year it still held on tight and I expect this would be the same quality. As for which feel more premium? I would probably say the spigen has the tiny edge on that because of the softer Matt touch. The difference isn't by much and you can't go wrong with either.
How well would it hold up, I still don't know. But at $10 I'm not loosing much.

Does the tight fit around the flash cause any issues when taking photos?
Got my N5 and Spigen ultra fit today. Not a fan of it, I should have looked at it more carefully. Don't like how little coverage there is on the top and bottom.
I'm hoping the Chinese company that I bought my TPU case for my N4 on Amazon comes out with a N5 version. I think it was like $.79 with $2 shipping. Best case out of 4-5 I bought for the N4.

Nope because of the thinnest of the case it does not interfere with the camera.
And it's a thin case and there pictures of it lol how much protection you expect it will provide?

I have the white case on my black N5, it looks great. My only concern with this case is that it is sharp on the bottom where I use my pinky to hold the phone. It's nothing some sand paper can't fix. It looks like the Ringke has more rounded edges, which might be more comfortable.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Just throwing my 2 cents in. I would highly recommend against this case. While the overall quality is nice, the top and bottom portions of the case are very sharp. I should not have to take out sand paper and take that off after buying a $10 piece of plastic that probably costs 10 cents to make. Spiegen will be getting a complaint from me.

I agree with this. The case looks really nice and feels high quality but the top and bottom are ridiculously sharp. I like to rest my pinky under my phone when I use it but I can't with this case because it is too painful. Hopefully this will be fixed in a revision.

I'd agree my bottom of case is pretty sharp... top is OK though..I'll ask about a revised version...
I read that this case may scratch the phone at the corners. Anyone have that issue?

For what it's worth, I have removed the case and put it back on several time and do not see any scratches. It fits on way too snug for my tastes(it is incredibly difficult to take off) so I was afraid it would mess up my phone. But so far no issues. In fact one of the times I was having real trouble getting it off and I noticed white stuff on the corner of the phone when I finally got it off. It appears that the phone will scratch the case rather than the case scratching the phone.

I was watching this earlier when I did a YouTube search. When I saw the design for the Fusion and Ultra Hybrid, I was immediately attracted to the Ultra Hybrid. The Fusion looks a bit too round for me, which is a shame since I loved the Fusion case for the Nexus 4.
great review, thanks
edit: i think your spigen case might be ok, you might just have to peel off the plastic in the front and back just like the ringke.

I was also going to ask this, did you actually remove the plastic films on the Spigen one? because it doesn't have a message like the Ringke to remove it but they're there and I'm almost certain you didn't remove them because when you were comparing them it looked hazy.
Does the Ringke come with an option for a solid black back instead of clear?

Nope. That would be the Slim series but thats another case.
Damn I thought the Ultra hybrid would be about the same size as the Fusion... I like smaller cause my hands are not large. Unfortunately I order an ultra hybrid if I would have seen this before that I would have bought the Fusion! Anyone want to buy my Ultra hybrid?? lol it hasnt come in yet but idk I may need to sell it and buy the fusion instead..lol

I thought mine was scratched too, but you need to peal both the front and back protectors off.
I have both as well. The Spigen is higher quality, but the Rearth is slightly smaller and much more comfortable to hold due to the rounded edges. Also the buttons are easier to press on the Rearth.
So far I have all the Spigen cases and the Rearth and I really don't like any of them. I have a Supcase and a Diztronic on their way. Having a PITA time finding a decent case for this thing. I know I'll like the Diztronic, but I am really, really hoping UAG comes out with a case for us (they likely won't).

just got my diztronic. give me a few minutes to gather some thoughts about it.
Edit: Alright. First off, it looks very nice and sleek, and it definitely does not add as much size as the neo hybrid did (that thing literally gave the N5 the height and width of a Note 3). Fit and finish is OK, not quite as good as sgp or even the older Diztronic cases I remember having on my ATT One X. There is a little bit of flash at the bottom edge under the charging port, so if you usually rest your pinky near the charging port, you will feel a little bit of sharpness. Other than that, the case is pretty formfitting. The buttons actually have a nice click feedback, and it doesn't feel like the case is constantly putting pressure on the buttons when they are not pressed, which is VERY good thing and something I cannot say for most cases. Overall, a solid case, and definitely knocked the neo hybrid away. Waiting for the Supcase for further comparison and judgement.
so it seems that the diztronic wins over spigen and spigen wins over ringke fusion....hmm..
i wonder why no one here mentioned the slim armor from spigen...with all the differences of opinion and no seemingly "excellent" case out there (and with slim armor my preferred one ahving button problems) i dont know what to do ! please do post your reviews people specially if you have multiple cases and which one you like best

[VIDEO] Spigen Ultra Hybrid Case Review / First Look - Google Nexus 5

When I purchase a device, I'm on the search for some protection immediately. This case was available for purchase around the release date of the Nexus 5 so I jumped on it and the GLAS.tR (installed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=HIWv8zNgXpY).
For $10 I can't complain much about the case. It doesn't add too much bulk and keeps the phone safe under most situations. The buttons are easy to push, however some have mentioned they are too easy to push.
While playing games in landscape mode, it hasn't solved my personal issue with covering up the speaker on accident. A case would require a lot of padding around this area to fix that.
This case is only available through Amazon. I'll add the direct link if requested.
Thank for this video

Decent video but arrgh! the corner of your screen protector was bugging me. Did the case do that or was it already like that?
I got my case two days ago.
I must say, overall, the case is very nice.
I love the way the buttons are so easily pressed with little effort, feels great.
Only real problem I've found is that the headphone opening will not accommodate my AudioTechnica m50 over sized 3.5 mm jack. I'l started to file the opening to make it larger so I can fit my headphones plug.
A bit disappointing for a very nice case, but I can live with it.
Could anyone recommend on a good and not expensive headset that can fir with this case?

Looks like I might grab one of these.
Do you know this compares to the rearth ringke fusion (particularly the side buttons)?
I remember the ringke case for the nexus 4 was notorious for being hard to push.
Does this case get scratched easily since it's transparent and plastic I'm guessing. Also are there any other cases available with similar design just a frosted translucent back?? I'm looking for such a case for my phone

The buttons are actually really easy to push. In the beginning I almost felt the case was pushing down on the buttons. Any slight breeze of your finger over the power and it would depress. Over time I think that quit though.
I've never tried that other case.

Just asked my wife and she said it didn't scratch too easily. I'm checking out cases for the S5, and apparently not all clear backs scratch too easily. There's one company (no Nexus 5 case) that has a clear hard back with a rubbery feel too it. My 1 year old daughter test it out and it does a good job of resisting scratches.

Which Spigen case is best for Nexus 5, between the neohybrid and slimarmour?

Hey guys,
I know this is totally subjective. However, I have been looking for a case for my nexus 5. I like the Spigen NeoHybrid, and Slimarmor so far, however I have heard bad things about the Neohybrid, and that the Slimarmor is somewhat bulky. Some guidance is needed. Thank you!

you can also check out the ultra hybrid one too...thats too a really nice case to go for....:good:
sometimes thick cases will mess with the camera by changing the light sensitivity because the lens and/or flash are shrouded. go on amazon and read the reviews... i decided against the slim armor because of potential camera issues and because people complained about the buttons either being hard to press, or no feedback/bad feel from the buttons. but it does look like it would protect the phone well and with tpu instead of cheap silicone like all those old iphone cases i had to deal with years ago i'm sure it's still a pretty good case. but i went with the neo hybrid and it should be here this afternoon so i'll give my opinion then.
I have the slim armour. I was a bit disappointed at how bulky it is when I first put it on my Nexus, however I have grown accustomed to it and it is a good quality case.
The button feedback is actually the best I've ever experienced on a case. Really nice.
I would personally prefer a slimmer case but if you're not worried about bulk, slim armour is a definite one to look at.
I got a Slim Armor and the buttons are no good. Makes them feel spongy. I'm returning it and ordering a Neo Hybrid.
Pretty awesome. Thank you guys!! Anyone encountered fitting problems with the neohybrid, especially the use of the headset jack?
I have the slimarmor. The power button is a bit too snug and i feel alot of dusk seeps into the bottom of the case.
However, I have dropped the phone 2 times on the ground outside (concrete) and there's not one nick on the case itself and the phone is perfectly fine. It does add a bit of bulk, but I got used to it pretty quickly. I can't promise I'll stay with this one for good, but It will definitely be in rotation with other cases

I have both and like the slim armor better. Better protection and list slippery. If you want slimmer I also have the ultra hybrid which I feel is made better than the neo hybrid and is slimmer. That's my 2 cents on the issue.
i have the neo hybrid and think it's fine as a case. the case buttons transfer the tactile feel of the phone's buttons very well.

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
i just got the neo hybrid. it adds more bulk to the phone than i thought... the back is thin but something about squaring off the back makes it feel a lot bigger. also the tpu + bumper adds some width. i was afraid of button access problems through the cutouts with some of the tpu cases out there so i didn't go with a cheap tpu case, maybe i would have been happier with a contoured case rather than this but overall it's a very good case. the power button feedback is a little less, but the button works consistently, my dennon headphones fit, but others might not, the phone stills charges wirelessly without problems.
I picked up the Slim Armor and love it. Great protection around the corners, screen, and camera lens. For a two layer case, it doesn't feel bulky at all. Fits very nice in the hand IMO.

I haven't actually tried either case (because I haven't even gotten my phone yet... backorder ) but I would trade bulkiness for protection by getting the dual layer Slim Armor. I have had a dual layer case on my current phone and I have dropped a couple times over the past two years. In combination with a screen protector, a dual layer case can be the best insurance for your phone without actually paying $100-200 for real insurance.
I was originally planning on the Neo Hybrid just cuz it looks so damn nice but more than 1 person has said its very slippery... and that'd be silly to buy a case only for you to drop it more often.
I ordered the Slim Armor instead, waiting for it to arrive. Amazon's shipping is kind of wonky, they said 2 day delivery but the package has just sat at UPS's facilities for the past 3 days and its scheduled for tomorrow- oh wait, of course UPS changed the date to Thursday.
Hate UPS, but cant wait to get my hands on the case. Hoping it doesn't have the accursed power button issue (though I reckon it won't be too difficult to fix anyway).
I recently got the slim armor. Quality case. Make sure you play around with putting it on. The buttons are very sensitive as you've probably read elsewhere and would turn the phone off. After about 2 tries I got it on and the buttons are working normally.:good:

Best case??

Could someone recommend a case that has good protection? I was looking at the spigen hybrid does anyone have a word on it??

I have the Spigen hybrid, and it's a pretty good case that seems like it would withstand a decent drop. The thing I would say about it is that there's a pretty large gap near the bottom of the case near the charging port that allows a lot of dust to get under the case. Also, the power and volume buttons on the side don't stick out so it can be hard to tell where they are without looking. Overall it's a pretty decent case but I think I'm going to consider looking at other alternatives.

I'm new to the Nexus 5 (well, it should come tomorrow) and had some of the same questions about "best case" and "best induction charger" and all. I was pleased to find out how many threads there were in this section that covered those topics. There were five or six just on cases and around the same on chargers in the just the first couple pages, several of which had lots of photos and opinions.
I think "best case" is a lot like "best ROM" -- As soon as you have even a couple good choices, it is all about what of the little details work for you and which don't.

This pretty much.
I had a spigen ultra hybrid but I just wasn't a fan, it scratched up pretty easy too (clear back), and yeah I did remove the protective film on it.
I have a spigen ultra fit now, Not bulky, but if I had a horrific drop it'll definitely still break. But it feels like the Nexus 5 back and the protection is at least adequate.

Same with me...I have the spigen ultra fit and it feels nice in the hand and fits snug. And I never drop my phone so something minimal like that is good enough for me.

Ballistic has 4 cases available right now. I have the SG maxx (now tough jacket maxx) and the jewel. I like them both, but I use the jewel more - less bulky, feels nicer in the hand. They don't mention the material in the description, but it is a clear tpu case.

Really OTHER thread about the Spigen Ultra Hybrid/ringke fusion? Man, it's one of the most popular cases around here, in almost every post in accesories thread people mention it...

Well you really can't go wrong with it...

Had the Spigen Hybrid as well based on the resounding praise for it on here. However, although the protection offered was top notch and it looks really sharp (white especially), I found the button covers extremely annoying. Maybe it was just my case, but I found that I really had to push hard for volume/lock screen functions to register. In fact, I was close to cutting them out entirely. I know I sound like a sloth, but going forward, I won't invest in another case that covers the buttons unless it's a thinner/less rugged material.
Trident aegis. I dropped mine on the way out of the car with my new nexus 5 in it. When I want to go get in the car the next morning the phone and case were frozen in a large block of ice I picked I picked up the ice and threw it (don't do that it was stupid of me to try). The phone skidded across my driveway and when I picked it up it was fine only some scratches on the case!!!!!

Do you know how thick the case is?

A bit thicker than most tpu cases, like cruzerlite, more of a raised lip, and bubbled out corners to direct impact away from the corners. The lip was a bit thick, and caused bubbles at the corners of my glass screen protector, but I shaved a bit from the inside lip at the corners, and that fixed it.

I have pretty much all the popular N5 cases an right now my favorite is the speck candyshell. Feels great in the hand, not too bulky and buttons have great feedback. Highly recommend it. Another one i really like is the diztronic tpu case
