hi GUYS!! i flashed my GT-7100 to stock rom 4.1.2 so i can update my phone to 4.3 when the official update comes... but after i flashed it..and check my notification it says emergency calls only.... and when i connect to kies it says your blah blah blah is not supported to initialised... i have correct IMEI and S/N... im from the philippines... any guys have idea? how to fix it.? im really in need your help.. God bless!!! thank you in advance....
I wouldn't recommend updating to 4.3 officially as it comes with Knox in the boot loader and it cannot be removed or downgraded. If you were already using a custom ROM then you should go back to that and then wait for a custom rom based on the new firmware but without the bootloader. You may have to flash the 4.3 modem at some point but it is possible to do this without the bootloader in Mobile Odin. I'm not really sure why flashing that stock ROM didn't work but you should be able to go to a custom rom again without issue as long as you have your IMEI. If you feel you must do the official update then just make sure you do some research on the new bootloader first. As far as I know it offers no advantages to an average user and it does have some disadvantages.
Edit: for your other issue I would start with looking at the baseband as cellular issues are normally related to that.

thank you for your response sir.. you think it can be fix my problem by installing other custom rom?
Well if you had a custom ROM running before and that was working then it is likely that it will still work. If it doesn't then you can always flash to stock in Odin again. Its very unlikely that you'd end up worse off since youll just have the same issue on a custom rom if it doesn't fix it. If it doesn't fix it then it is mostly likely related to the baseband because that is one of the few things that remains the same between a custom ROM and stock since you should be wiping data and cache when you flash a rom and it completely rewrites your system. It may not fix the issue but its definitely worth a try and if you decided not to upgrade to the 4.3 bootloader then there's not much need to be stock in my opinion. Stock offers very few if any advantages over custom roms. If you need high stability then just use a ROM that is based on the stock ROM, they are almost always bug free because they only add things like root, deodex, reboot menu, zipalign, performance tweaks, etc. They don't have to deal with drivers or source code like on AOSP roms so they are much easier to make. It may be worth a factory reset now on the stock ROM too if you didn't do it after the Odin flash. Sometimes old data from another ROM can cause issues.

Hi Guys!
I have plan to buy Galaxy S3 in Tmo (in retail) and have a two questions. Is it safe to flash new phone from Tmo to stock android? I don't want to have any Tmo stuff and Tmo's andro version... Question two is, when I'll have stock android on Galaxy, Do I get an OTA when it'll appear? Or I will have to flash manually when new rom will appear?
Thanks for clarification!

Now someone correct me if im wrong as i still call myself a noob but i do have basic knowledge but you can always root your phone/odin a custom recovery and then flash a stock rom with all the bloat removed. You could always just remove bloat via titanium back up as well tobyour liking. Check out the development thread. Theres alot to read but theres very usefull info to get caught up on. Hope this helps. Oh and in regards to ota, im stock with root injection and im waiting for todays update to try the root keeper method.

For android builds, or AOSP, there are options. You won't get a pure stock AOSP unless you compile and build it yourself. Though Cyanogenmod and AOKP are modified builds of AOSP that have various mods and tweaks I have been using Cyanogenmod 9 and will switch to 10 once it releases.
You will not receive OTA updates as these are custom roms and updates need to be manually flashed
There is a lot of lingo to learn and lots of mistakes to learn from. You will become addicted to flashing updates and various roms very quickly

Thanks guys for quick response!
Every flash in Samsung which I'd like to do has to be done via Odin? Sorry for 'noob' questions but before SGS3 I had NexusOne - everything was simpler on it
Flashing doesn't void my warranty, right? AFAIK on Samsung we have something called "Flash counter" and if we'd like to use warranty, Flash counter should be "0", that's right?
After buy, Do I have unlock phone or something like that?
Thanks for patience! I appreciate it
dzordzyk
No, you would want to odin a stock injected rom or odin a recovery, boot into recovery and then flash the super user zip. I dont know anything about odins counter but the triangle away seems to be working well on our phones unless someone else knows otherwise.
Confirming that if your on the stock root injected rom, use rootkeeper, do a temp unroot and youll be able to get the ota installed. Mine just rebooted from installation. Working good and glad it was so easy. Abq nm here. Hope i helped.

+1 wondering if this is true
If you are running stock do you get OTA updates? Of course.
You will get ota updates if running stock ONLY! You can be rooted, but you must not have a custom bootloader. Otherwise it will not work.

I'm on 4.1.2 but with the mk7 basband.. is there a flashable file so I can put it back to stock so I can do the official 4.3 update? I think I rather have that even tho I can't go back to any 4.1.x.. having too many issues with 4.3 roms without the updated bootloader, kernels are even.messing up camera etc. So I'm figuring do the update so I don't need a custom kernel.. or is there a flashable STOCK kernel I can flash so I can use Triangle Away and then just do the OTA update.. just frustrated as hell trying to troubleshoot everything.. I respect and thank all the devs I'm sure its either user error or my misunderstanding and knowledge. Never had this type of struggling with any devices from my HTC HD2, SGS2, SGS3, .. I'm just gonna chunk it up to being remedial or something and acknowledge defeat on this Device

If you are interested, I have debloated the Stock 4.3 ROM, rooted it and packed it with TMBBMD1 bootloader.
This ROM has the stock kernel, I have been running it for a while so far no issues. I am planning on uploading it on XDA.
If not, the easiest option would be to
1) Flash MrRobinsons, stock rooted TMBBMD1 ROM
2) Run triangle away to reset counter.
3) Uninstall SuperSU, this can be done from the application itself.
4) Perform a factory reset
Now your phone will be on stock 4.1.2 and if you check for updates you will get the 4.3 OTA.

Just wondering. I know that by installing a custom ROM we wont get official updates.
But what If I am using the stock ROM and I just rooted using TWRP will I still be able to get an Official Update if I flash it using Odin?
Im afraid of flashing custom ROMs because back on my Note 10.1 (old version) when I flashed Custom ROMs It broke the allsharecast feature.
Recovery is separate from Rom... heck... even kernel difference I THINK won't break OTA update, as long as ROM is stock.
Now with this beingWiFi only... will there even BE an auto update? Or will it have to be manual.

I doubt OTA will work though. But maybe can still download the official rom and flash via Odin manually
Maybe I can answer some of your questions? OTA updates are not only for devices on a mobile network. Our device will get the updates when on wifi, and the only limit or this to work properly is the fact that it is a custom ROM. A rooted device is not a limit, but it can (with the emphasis on *can*) cause a boot problem as a new ROM comes with a new recovery image. Therefore my advice is to use the various writeups in the Android development forum to understand the options to go rooted and back. Since this is a more general forum I suggest to ask your questions there too.

Hi All,
I have S3 T999v – Wind variant running on stock 4.4.2 , overall I hate this kitkat experience...
My issue is whenever I try to flash custom recovery TWRP (2.7.1.0 or older), it installs but when I try to take backup it shows nothing to take backup of (no System , no EFS etc....). When I try rebooting it gives error “NO OS Found” I am able to proceed anyways and it starts up phone fine.
Can anyone tell me what could be the issue here??? I wanna downgarde to either stock 4.3 or to install custom liquid smooth 4.4.4. but would prefer to take a back up just in case.
BTW my phone is rooted , rooted it with towel root.
Also can I flash T999 (t-mobile) based recoveries onto my T999v ?
Would appreciate your help :good:.
Thanks
I recommend using d2tmo recoveries over d2can. More roms will be flashable. And you can use any rom here in our forums.
For now, try using either cwm or philz recovery. Youre experiencing a known issue that I believe is related to the hardware revision. I keep hoping to attempt a fix, but just havent had time yet. But for now, one of the other recoveries should work for you.

Thanks buddy, yup CWM worked :good:
but why cant we downgrade to 4.3, i though it was that one cannot downgrade lower than 4.3 i.e. 4.2. in not possible now!
Knox. They prevent any downgrading to protect against tampering with Knox secure containers. You can't downgrade anymore, period. Anything beyond 4.3 or with Knox will be this way from now on.

Yeah just like doc said, if you're on 4.3 firmware you can't downgrade firmware to 4.1.2, or if you're on 4.4.2 you can't downgrade to 4.3 or 4.1.2.. Anything lower than your current firmware is a no.. You can only flash equal or newer firmware
i have att s3 i747. under baseband it says i747ucdlk3.
I want to install and experience with more roms, especially the lollipop nightlies. but they require an updated bootloader! Otherwise, my phone doesnt read the sim card. i have read so many threads on how to update the bootloader and modem/firmware, but half of the threads i read result in many people bricking their device! How do i update the bootloader properly? that is, without bricking my phone of course! should i do incremental updates? or jump from lk3 to the latest one? im lost on what to do, like i said so many people got bricked. can anyone help me out? it would be greatly appreciated!
i used this to get to NE4 with no problems.

Thanks I'll read up on it right now. I agree, I always read on forums first, which is why I found so many posts about how people had bricked their phones.
One question: did u use this to update from lk3?

Is your phone sim unlocked? If it isn't, you could flash back to a stock AT&T 4.1.1 ROM, unlock, and run OTA updates until your have the latest ROM on your phone. This approach requires more time but it is the simplest and least risky in my opinion.
So basically you're saying to flash back to unrooted stock. And then keep using att updates until I get to the latest one, and then I should be on ne4 automatically?? Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly.

Yes, flash back to stock and keep running ota until you hit the latest release.
If you have warranty left on your phone, updating, rooting, and loading a custom recovery will change the warranty bit from 0 to 1 which voids the remaining warranty.

K will do when chance the chance. Btw. Isn't there a requirement to not go past a certain firmware if I wanted to revert back to stock or else it'll brick? I thought it was if I go past 4.3. Any ideas?

You will have no choice but to flash to 4.4.2 bootloader and modem if you want to run the latest d2lte ROMs.
True, once you are on 4.3 or higher bootloader, you cannot go back to stock 4.1.1.

Some kk roms will run on a 4.1.1 bootloader while others will not. I know some of the newer cm11 roms will work but you will not have any signal with older modems and bootloaders.

i had read of some people have to use ktoonz kernel to get wifi , but that is usually in the OP.
thank you once again @audit13 for coming to the rescue. i am now M8 and losing what little i747 now-how i had. lmao.

So since I'm on lk3.. I should still be able to flash black to 4.1.1 stock via Odin and then use the ota right? Or should I flash back to 4.3. Which one is the safe option? Im thinking about using the ota option mentioned earlier in this thread.
