T989 Screen Orientation Fix - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

I had a screen rotation problem.
After looking around i was able to find a few threads that mentioned the orientation fix but non helped me out. I was running a cm11 kitkat rom.
As suggested in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644355 i downloaded advanced tools app from the play store.
As you can see nothing happened after hitting the reset button.
Non of the codes on this thread helped me or didn't work on kitkat http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Focus
I also tried the unroot method which took me down to 4.0.3 and the screen calibration tool there did not helped me either.
I decided to install BeastMod ROM found here http://galaxys2root.com/t-mobile-ga...mobile-galaxy-s2-sgh-t989-great-battery-life/
This took me down to Gingerbread 2.3.5 and with it two calibration tools i was able to fix my screen rotation problem.

Back on kitkat. Screen calibration worked.
carpenter app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ihandysoft.carpenter.toolkit&hl=en
advanced tools app. I guess that's how its suppose to show up when the orientation sensor is calibrated. Got the same result on my other s2.

[Q] accelerometer calibration

Hello,
Long story short my ARC's accelerometer's X/Y axes are way off (can't use any apps that require accelerometer). Is here any way to calibrate it?
I think a hard reset may be the only way to restore the accelerometer (assuming it was not perma-damaged when you dropped it). There is a similar thread on the X10 forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792514
Unfortunately I don't think there is a system menu where u can calibrate it......could be wrong tho.

Thankyou for the link,
Also accelerometer itself is working just axes are off and here isn't any options in system menu/service menu to calibrate it (At least I couldn't find any).

No probs
Have you tried an app called Bubble? (spirit level app). What happens when you try to open this? I know you can calibrate the accelerometer within that app, but not sure if it applies to system settings too. Might be worth a try
I've tried buble level app. After calibration it works perfectly but calibration isn't system wide.
Hey, try downloading the game 'jetcar stunts' from the market, there's an option there to calibrate the accelerometer. Try that and see if it works

Horizontal Calibration for CM10?

My screen rotation only works in the camera app and if I open the keyboard for all other apps. Then most of the time it gets stuck in landscape and I cant return it to portrait. This was also an issue on CM09 for me. Is there a horizontal calibration utility for CM10 similar to the CM09 SDcard Utility ROM? From what I've read some ROMs have it under Settings>Display>Horizontal Calibration. Any thoughts?

I had the same problem when I went to CM9. I followed the instructions to boot FC09 from the sdcard, performed the horizontal calibration and it has been fine ever since. I will try to find the link to the post.
Edit: here is a link to the CM instructions on how to do this:

Screen rotation problem

hi, after installing a JB rom like AOKP or CM10, it kills my screen rotation, this has happened to me a few times... the first time I managed to fix it by using the RUU, then I reflashed AOKP and as soon as i did that it killed my screen rotation again, so I tried to reflash the RUU but it did not work this time. Any ideas why this is happening, or how to fix it.. This has happened to me a couple of times, i managed to fix it sometimes by relocking/unlocking a second time.. But now nothing works. I need some help, because I do not think my phones Auto-Rotation is broken, since this happens after installing ROM's..

Do you have your "Rotation Modes" ticked?
Go to settings > Display > Rotation.
Enable it and then in the modes, select
0, 90 and 270 degrees which is default.
Additionally tick 180 if you want the phone to rotate upside down as well.
This worked for me sometime ago. If it doesn't work I don't know then.

screen doesn't rotate at all. but in camera mode it works.
Rotation doesn't work at all on my tab 3 GT-P5210 10.1
running 4.2.2 everything is checked in the settings. smart screen, etc. soft reset and hard reset doesn't do anything. but in camera mode, all works and rotates properly.
Samsung support didn't have a fix. is there a patch or something ?
All of the hardware has been replaced. All of it. Only thing is left was the lcd and digitizer is the same.

Well I don't have all the time in the world to look up an exact thread or exact are to post this. You found it so I must be getting warmer...
I looked for as long time and couldn't find any post that was exactly for my MODEL. But yes this is the Samsung forum because I chose it from the list.
So I just need a little help in the right direction that is all I don't need for someone to tell me this is the wrong post. I am a techie so I know what I am doing. Just leaning the android ways. I like the hardware side mostly.
THANKS.

[Q] Xperia Acro S - Proximity Sensor problem after update to JellyBean

Dear all
After one month using my Xperia Acro S updated to JellyBean I realized that the proximity sensor is not working.
During a call the screen doesn't turn off avoiding touch on the screen, but before the update, with ICS, it was working very well.
What I tried to do, but without result:
1st recover JB by device
2nd recover JB by PC Companion
3rd flash JB by Flashtool
I tried to Google, but I didn't find a solution to fix this problem for Acro S...
I tried *#*#7378423#*#* and tested the sensor, and it always shows "off"
I tried lots of softwares that make changes to the sensor, and they don't work (recognize the sensor?)
After sometime I realized that the problem may be the JB and not the device, as the ICS was working, so I flashed to ICS again to confirm. As I expected the sensor was working properly: I typed *#*#7378423#*#* again and checked the sensor and it changes to "on" everytime I cover the sensor.
Somebody is experiencing the same problem? Could you fix it? How?
Thanks...

Hi...
I proceeded as suggested and it still doesn't work. I flashed with the new Flashing tool 0.9.11.0 by Bin4ry and Androxyde and the sensor is not working.
I flashed to ICS again and it works very well, I don't understand...
What I noticed is that the sensor seems to work together with the light sensor, in the same position. Somebody knows if the sensor is the same? In the ICS the proximity sensor works when I cover the same part of light sensor (left from the speaker) and not in the right between the speaker and front camera.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Hi bluechip850
Thanks for the suggestion, but as I told I tried this and the sensor is working well in ICS.
By the way, I'm still using ICS due to the sensor is not working in JB.
I really would like to use JB, mainly because I noticed that the battery in ICS gets low faster that JB.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks

My phone is a Xperia Acro S (LT26W) JB 4.1.2
I need to power the screen off manually every time I want to answer or make a call. I just fast press the button of the power just to turn off the screen and avoid to touch the screen accidentally.
When I finish the call I also need to fast press the button again so I can access the screen options again.
It is so boring, but I just found this solution until the next update. I didn't find any other solution or software to change or turn on the proximity sensor. I actually found some scripts, but I don't have experience to change the system and I don't want to kill my phone, so I decided to wait to the next update instead of downgrade to ICS again, which was working well, because of the improvements that JB provides.
If you find some information that can fix the proximity sensor, please tell me...

well forgot to say, was searching on net and got that infor about software "smart screen off" it is made by someone from here on XDA. Decided to give it a try, installed it from playstore, it makes one icon on deesktop which function like simple button, when u press button proxim. sensor starts working and acting normaly, when u press it again it switch off so proxim sensor again not working as it is JB bug so JB keeps it off all the time when there is no other software which will enabled it directly, so go go try it I hope it will work for you as well.
Didn't work

I wouldn't like to say that just the software couldn't work.
The proximity sensor in actually disabled in my phone. I need to turn it on first to use any software to manage the proximity sensor. I thought that this software you told would enable the sensor, not just manage it.
Anyway thanks, if you have another suggestion I would be pleased to try
It seems like somewhere in the system a value to have the proximity sensor on during a call is set to off, find where its located and copy it over from ICS to jb and you should be good to go

Nice idea, but can you explain or send a link how to access the system and make this changes?
Thanks
This is just an idea, if someone has a build.prop on the same phone and same version that has no issues with proximity post it here then OP flash to jb delete your build.prop and paste theres in your system folder. Else you could try copying your build.prop from ICS and pasting it in jb. Supposably that is where the issue lies on some phones. You may also want to flash a jb firmware that isn't stock, any ROM from the xperia s section should work. For editing the build.prop you need root and a root browser then go into system and at the bottom is build.prop. you may also want to read your build.prop and see if there are any lines for proximity in there
It seems as though you're not in touch with the android system, no offence, so I'd take the easy route and flash a jelly bean firmware from the across s section, this should work perfectly fine for you because its simply the stock ROM that's the issue and had a regression and most devs will fix this in their ROM.

Try recalibrating your accelerometer. I am not sure exactly where it is in CM10 but look in settings for an option called 'device'. You should be able to calibrate the sensor from there.

It sounds like you are on Paranoid Android ROM. I am pretty sure gyro calibration is the thing you want to use. If that does not work the only other thing I can think of is you flashed a kernel with rotation issues.

I misspoke when I said accelerometer. Gyro calibration is the setting you need. Make sure you put your phone on a flat surface when calibrating. If that doesn't help your problem it may be the fault of the kernel that you linked.
