Hey guys
I own recently a brand new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. Since a couple of days of using I discovered issues with my screen.
On games like real boxing and GTA Vice City (max res.) and kids bible I experienced flickering and black screen and even sudden reboot, whereas with games like Fifa 14, Asphalt 8 or subway Surf, no problem...
Is this related to my device or is it an app issue?
Any advise or sharing of experience will be appreciated!
Thanks
I got GTA 3 but not Vice City, I'll try it out for you.
Yet if the issue doesn't continue on the rest of the apps, it must be just incompatibility between the system and the game.
Email the developer and ask if they have gotten any reports similar to what your issue is.

But i have to tell you that i tried modern combat 3 and it went black again. i think i have a faulty one. i'll bring it back to the shop. i hope they give me a new one immediately.
I'm 90% sure that this is a graphical issue. I have the WIFI 32gb version. I hope they sold the 3G here

I've been experiencing screen flickering when I turn on Netflix, Multi-Screen, and a Full Screen Youtube. Anyone know how to fix this? I wouldn't want to send it over to Samsung.

I experienced this problem but after some tests I concluded it was not software related. After googling a little I opened the back cover and found the flat screen cable was not well fixed with tape and in some cases the contact was not perfect. Rebounded properly and the problem was fixed.

mine was the SM-P601 3G+WIFI 32GB version,
already twice goes to the service center here in Indonesia,
it is difficult for me to show the flickering issues to their desk, because the flickering issues are random in my case, and i had charging issues also, sometimes the device are well charged and sometime was not (showing crossed battery indicator), i must tap twice or more in the back surface area and usually the device are normally charging again.
but the situation is, they not admit that there were something wrong with my device, the final resume always said that it was a software issues, and only offering restore with the original ROM / FIRMWARE , my device still in under warranty, my question is, is it the only step to fix this flickering issues and charging issues by tear up the whole surface / back cover and re-tape the flat screen cable? it seems rather than do it by my self, already showing ziotom2 answer to the CS in my area and they are refuse to tear up and check the flat screen cable

Hi everybody! I have been reading here that some people had this issue, but I don't see how they solved it. I've had this issue since the beginning.
Basically, screen sensitivity is very bad when the device is unplugged, only when it's plugged in or holding it with both hands it responds correctly.
This is a problem for me, because for studying, i put the a100 on its stand case, and only need one finger to slide a word or ppt. With this grounding issue, i have to touch the a100 with both hands to make it react properly, it's very annoying and uncomfortable.
Should I take it to the technical support? it's a hardware problem? I tried the build.prop from crossix and still the same. And tried the recalibrate.apk without any success. I don't know what else I can do.
I'm still in guarantee, i'm thinking seriously to take it to SAT. But i have unlocked bootloader, how can i revert it? How should i prepare the device to keep manteining the guarantee?
people who sent the a100 to SAT with this problem, it was solved?
thanks, I really need a fix for this
I have installed the official ICS rom and now it seems locked again, and I'm not root anymore. I think it's prepared for SAT, so I've called acer technical support, they will take the tablet for repair on tuesday 15.
I will post the results when they send it back to me, if someone is interested.
Did you try it after the update to ICS? the OTA ICS updates did wonders for the sensitivity of most of our tabs.
Yes, this is happening since the beginning when I bought the tablet with honeycomb, and still happens in ICS. Let's see if the technical support can fix it! because I really love this a100 thanks!
it makes any difference to upgrade by OTA or by flashing the rom that's here? I have flashed ICS, not by OTA
Is your build .14? That's the one that seems to fix the touchscreen problems.
I have had the touchscreen issues since day one also. Same issues, works fine without a case in two hands, one handed or laying it on a table/couch the screen is jumpy, random touches, and glitchy multi-touch. I've run 3.2 gen2, ICS .014, and ICS .017. I've even popped it apart looking for something simple (and to take a look at the wifi antenna), but nothing obvious found. I would have to guess it is a manufacturing defect.

Yes it's that build (downloaded from the russian link)
This happens also in the a100 of my uncle. He has not yet the build .14, but I'm starting to think this build won't work to fix that.
I thought this build would fix the problem, but...
I want to believe it's a problem with some tabs and I had bad luck, and that technical support will fix it.
I've made this video showing the problem.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIGnXT22vhA
Definitely a problem with your tablet, mine is perfect.
I have similar problem but not bad us yours .. but iam out of luck because i buy it from ebay with no gurantee
I will send it tomorrow, we will see what happens xD
today my dear tablet have been sent to be repaired. I hope it will be with me soon again! xD I'll keep informing!
I've just received an email saying that my tablet is repaired! they will send it to me in the next days, very fast! I don't know if this is good or bad... xD

Well about all I can do is wish you good luck buddy
I just got a refurb off of ebay and it has a 90 day warranty thru Acer, and the fella I purchased it from.
I am not having any issues with the screen even using the stylus they sent with it.
I tried the stylus to see what the hype was with a stylus and found it to be just that hype.
Do you have any type of screen protector on your tab?
Sometimes certain ones can cause issues.
If your device is under warranty I would let them fix it.
yes I have a screen protector, but the issue is there even without it.
I will tell you when i recover my tab and see if it's fixed xD
yea its the device itself i had problems with mine.. it had become completely unresponsive after i rooted it and installed ics i sent it back to the factory took almost a month and got a new one i suggest u do the same
How do I get a new one? today I have received mine and the problem doesn't seem fixed I wonder what they did to think it was resolved

To be honest I didn't think the problem would be resolved. Contact them again and tell them the problem is not resolved; I'm sorry to say this seems like a design issue.
On the other hand, maybe you are being overly critical? My tab works well, but if I want to make the touchscreen seem less than perfect, then I would have no problems doing so. However, in practice this is a non-issue, and I have not had a problem with either my previous tab (which I sent back because it stopped charging) or my current tab (which I've had for 5 days). Of course, this is after upgrading them to official ICS releases.
I don't think I'm being critical, the fact that I can't slide a document properly without having to hold the tab with both hands is very very annoying for me, since I want it to study and the idea was to keep the tab in a stand in the table and touch it only for sliding for example. I stopped using it for this purpose due to that.
Moreover, my mother has another cheaper tablet and tactil control works so much better... In the same situations that my tab. I envy her for that, cause my tab is over 200€ more expensive and it's suposed to be better xD
I have an exam today, i will try to find time to call acer to tell them the problem is not solved.
Just watch these to see what appears to be a major manufacturer defect. And the seller, B&H, wants me to bring it in 30 days within sale, which I cannot do because I do not live in USA or NYC where I bought it. Samsung has only US warranty on it.
I have some Youtube video, but cant add the links due to XDA policy
It is basically flickering and monitor is out of control
Change ROM?
Wait for new stock ROM?

If you dont have warranty and cannot change it either, then why not try changing the firmware. May be it will resolve the issue.

The Device ships with 4.4.2 or updates to it. And this is what available Stock Roms are. Samsung tech support said there are no downgrades or upgrades, which sounds like robotic responses. The problem with custom roms is that I can only use ODIN. So I am planning to flash a new stock rom from sammobile, but the region is different. What is odd has to do with the left corner of the monitor being very dim, then sometimes it isn't. Sometimes the screen flickers continuously like a Strobe Light. Of course this strobing is before and after I adjust settings. In my opinion, Samsung has produced too many products with many in the mediocre category rather than all resources focusing on one to be superior.
Were I still in USA, I'd return it to the store of purchase for full refund. Now that I cannot, I have to ship it for service, but this is unlikely happening until 11 months from now.

Well I had the same issue about the screen flickering seems to me as a faulty back light as it's not the screen itself, reason for this being if you install a screen recording app and record the screen while flickering and you play the video back the video wont show any flickering, unfortunately changing firmware wont help this issue.
Im from South Africa and my tablet came out with andriod 4.3, put custom firmware on can't remember which one, issue still occurred, then I upgraded to android 4.4 (P605XXUCNG1_P605OXXCNG1_SEE) still didn't solved the issue, running custom rom 4.4 (xkat) now still having the issue:crying:, but hey maybe you lucky and custom firmware works for you.
GOOD LUCK:good:

You are correct! Changing ROMS doesn't make a difference. Samsung said they have never heard of our problem. Please keep calling Samsung until you can get them to service it under the 1 year warranty. Did you purchase it locally or within your country? Mine has US warranty only, but I am in China working for next 11 months, so I can send it, rather expensive to do that and not sure if it would make it undamaged.
If you put stock rom, they warranty will still be valid. However, the issue never goes away.
Screen lighting issues
Hello , guys .
- the issue may be related to auto-brightness like on one of my devices tf701 ( deal with prop. settings ) , or brightness meter ( front camera )
- battery voltage management ( rare )
- and as you said the broken backlight of the screen .
i dont know anythong about other possibilities , actually maybe connectors issues.

I purchase it locally and my warranty is voided (knox), but last night I found out something very interesting, while playing clash of clans last night my screen started flickering again. WHILE the screen was flickering my hand moved over the light sensor (the little circle next to your front camera) and guess what happened.....jip the flickering stopped IMMEDIATELY as I moved my hand away from the sensor the flickering started again. So I guess the fault is with the sensor cause its duty is to adjust the screen (back light brightness) acording to the light condition.
So today I will remove the auto brightness setting use the tablet and see what happens, will give feedback.

I usually disable the auto brightness while attempting to get it working. The monitor no longer comes on now. I can fully charge it, hit start, hear noises and vibrations, but no monitor. All the flickering must have burnt it out.

FEEDBACK: So after disabling the auto brightness i haven't had a single flicker so far, but now I must manually adjust my brightness every time my light condition change . As for you screen displaying nothing after switching it on and hearing the "noise" welcome sound i presume. Hold your table at different angles and see if i can see something.

At certain angles the flashing does have more or less flashing, but this was before the screen turned black and stayed black. Now that the screen has burnt out, I had noticed a samsung screen attempting to go on when I push power. But basically it is a dead screen 26 days into owning the device, 5 hard resets later, hours with tech support, and nothing else to do. So I am taking a 3 hour bus ride to hand deliver it to the service center in Beijing, which is the closest center to my work where I will be until July.
Hi guys!
I have a F180L (converted on a E975), my phone never fell from any distance, or had any kind of impact, BUT...Since I updated to last version o Carbom ROM, I've got a issue on my screen...
There are random touches on my down-left corner of the screen. It's completely random, while the charger is plugged, or not. But it only happens when an app is opened, while in homescreen (even on google now cards) everything is ok...
I've already flashed another rom, the AOKP Android L release 11, the problem still here...I installed a screen tester app, and this corner is not recognizing when I touch.
What can I do? Is there any kind of fix for it?
It's really annoying (mainly while typing)...
Thank you for any help!
I guess its time for a replacement.
Made some research on other forums and found some people with the same problem, but on other devices...On Nexus 4 and Xioami (mostly)...They solved this by replacing the battery...I'll try to do that this week...
But any other tip about can help...
it might be a kernel issue
if u have jolla kernel try changing the kernel first
I have also the ghost touching on my E975.
Tried to do a scan with antivirus with no luck.
For instance it's hard to dial number, because there are ghost touches often.
It's like on tihs video, but I have touches even more often:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHFtafL-HKc
I'm on stock KitKat 4.4.2 ROM.
Any ideas about the issue?

Thanks.
It's relatively common issue, hope it will not appear again...
Sorry to resurrect this thread but I seem to have a problem with my screen, not with the ghostly touches but my screen has like one part of it not responsive to touches especially the keyboard. While typing in portrait mode I can't type in the letters x and d and the whole line of the screen above those letters can't respond to my touches. The others are OK though. Anyone else having the same problem or is it just me? Already flashed different ROMs but same problem
So...I didn't manage to get a new battery to perform a test yet...Maybe I'll do that until the end of this week, and post the results here...
About the kernel...Mine is "3.4.0 [email protected]" ...
Going to update to new Kevin's L ROM and see what will happen...Hope I can help u, guys...
I had the same problem as well, unfortunately my phone was just out of the warranty period so I couldn't get a repair or replacement. I tried everything to do with the software and firmware at first to see if that was the issue(no luck). I noticed when my phone was either hot from heavy usage or charging, it was at its worst..couldn't even put my lock pattern in without it spazzing out. After almost throwing my phone at a wall numerous times I decided to get a new digitizer (easily bought online at reasonable prices). Watched a tutorial on Youtube and replaced it successfully and haven't had a problem since.

So tried the touchscreen test and found out it was like a whole strip of screen that got affected. It was okay just a few days ago though,

Yeah no problem and thats unlucky. I've got the Korean variant and wasn't ready to wait weeks to get my new digitizer either from Asia. I managed to find a european version that arrived next day and included front housing aswell (although modifications were needed a bit for the internals to fit). Yeah the Moto G look great but it seems to be more of a downgrade from your current handset right?

I live in the UK I managed to find one here on ebay. I know you can get some from Italy , Spain and I'm positive there some in US aswell. Search "E975 housing or digitizer" depending on what your after. Do be careful as some replacements screens lack the LG logo or a bad quality. Im would give direct link but im not sure about the forum rules on that are. If your still unsure do PM me your country and I'll PM you back an appropriate link.
Hope I helped.

Hey - I got a like new Galaxy Tab S 32GB for $190 a few days ago. Theoretically a great device...
However, it crashes all the time. Just putting some load on it, even Google Maps search can force reboot it. Games like Iesabel or Shadowrun crash on start.
Is this normal with this thing or is there some internal damage? I rooted and to look at logs and found no issues and fresh installed the latest OS image via Odin but no change.
I am baffled a high end device would display such issues. My other tablets (cheapo Lenovo etc are all fine with these apps). Any tips?
I have a day or two to return this thing. Would love to keep it but realistically it's just too frustrating.
Thanks.

I'd take it back , sounds like a hardware issue.
Had mine for over a year and can honestly say its never rebooted once.
Agreed with the post above me. It used to be Samsung flagship. Mine did reboot once in a blue moon but very rare.

Yeah, thanks guys. That's what I'd expect from a Samsung flagship. I'll return it. Cheers.
Yeah, loose battery connection is a big problem on the 8.4" and the odd 10.5" , bending the tablet can cause this problem, that is why the 8.4" is more affected, you have to be a giant to fit the 10.5" in your pants pocket.
John.
Hello everyone,
Since yesterday i have been experiencing ghost touches on the top part of my screen., and it keeps increasing. I have not been able to find a solution uptil now.
I am prism barebone Rom (Stock). I was using google launcher, tried removing it, but not of much help.
I am not able to understand whether its a Software issue or a Hardware issue. Should i take this to Asus, i am already rooted, so wonder whether they would help or not.
if you got your device bootloader unlocked , your warranty void but i think there is some article how to getyour bootloader relocked but idk i havent got my device unlocked yet. but another story if you havent done anything to your device, just bring it to asus and get repaired

I am also a prism barebone user and I have the same ghost touch problem time to time. I started noticing this after I received my last update (165).
My bootloader is unlocked and there is no way to relock the bootloader (except flashing the dark splash screen to make it appears to be locked) as such I can not repair my device with warranty. I could do out of pocket repair though.
I did search on xda , internet and found so many postings without any proper solution except send it back to Asus repair service. (Asus changes the digitzer part)
Here is what I found.
1. The Ghost touch (it also called Phantom touch) started noticing around December 2015, after taking the last update. So it could be software related. Asus has aware of this problem and we are hoping that the next update would fix this problem.
2. Everybody who had their warranty repair said that the problem was fixed. So it could be hardware related.
- Some said that they download and flashed the latest firmware and it solved the problem.
- Some said that they replaced the ZenUI with Google launcher and it solved the problem.
Here is one I thought it is useful so I copied it to my note pad. I did not copied the name of the original writer so I don 't know who wrote it.
"For millions of ASUS Zenfone users having Ghosh Touch issue there are 2 temporary solutions you may try:
i) Slightly Bend your Zenfone towards front and back - this should instantly solve your ghost touch issue but only temporarily (be very cautious while bending your phone as excessive bending may damage your screen)
ii) Do Not Keep your mobile phone in the pockets of your trousers as it may again bend your phone and cause ghost touches
iii) Even if the ghost touch is fixed try running the SMMI Test (Touch screen Test - draw a big 'S' from top to bottom of the screen and repeat it from left to right side of the screen) frequently to find if it is really a hardware issue, while testing you may find sometimes the tests are passing while sometimes the tests are failing. If the Tests fails frequently please take it to local ASUS authorized service center immediately for a hardware fix, take screen shots of the tests before visiting the place. "
I used to have screen and phone cover. I took those off .
I no longer put the phone in my trouser pocket.
I did bend the phone sometime.
I am waiting for the next Asus update.

Hmm....i too looked it up and found that it could be software related.
So just for testing purposes, i have started using a custom rom. Uptil now i havent faced the ghosting issue. I will also try the methods you have listed.
I have a back cover that is pretty tight and a tempered glass. Will try removing those too.
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
In settings there is a setting to increase screen sensitivity if you are wearing gloves. Have you made sure this is unticked?

Yes, i did check it. It was unticked.
BTW i am cm13 now, and havent noticed any of the ghost touches for some time.
But now they are back. I assume it is hardware related now. Going to take it to asus.
