[Q] Galaxy s3 i747 brick - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

After clearing cache and everything for an install of my rom if kept failing. With issue 7. Someone with the same problem did freezas bootloader modem flash or something with the same phone. I done loaded the correct install and I restarted my phone. Nothing happened. My phone won't turn on. I've have literally tried everything except usb jig and jtag. before I made a jig I just wanted to see if anyone out there could tell me for sure if this is a jig fix or a jtag fix. Phone won't turn on. Did the factory download mode buttons and nothing. Did the cwm mode buttons and nothing. Held the power button and nothing. Held power and volume up and the power volum down still nothing. Plugged into computer and wall socket, nothing. Take battery out hold power button and plug usb from computer into phone, red charge light connects and then disconnects. I was thinking it may be a soft brick since I do get some sort of response out of it. If it was hard bricked it would do absolutely nothing, or am I wrong?
Also, once I get the red charge light on I have tried using adb to try to reboot boot loader, etc (everything). Doesn't find any devices cuz once plugged in it connects and disconnects. Except for when I plug it in and hold the power button. Only then will it make the connect sound and not the disconnect, but nothing is ever found on computer or with adb when searching. Always no device listed.

Go here to page 17 and read through page 20, it will likely help you unbrick, I had a hard brick lastnight and recovered it myself using this method.

If you have anything useful to add please put it in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2549068
I added links for where to get known working things you need for AT&T 4.3 in the link ^^^ up there.
If you have the I747M I suggest you get the Odin tar from www.sammobile.com

[Q] Cannot enter Download Mode

So I can easily get into recovery mode, but that is it. I have tried both up and down while holding power. up and down and home while holding power. down/home/power and up/home/power all numerous times and the only thing I can get into is recovery mode. Degugging is on, and odin recognizes phone. Could this have something to do with the tmobile softkeys version instead of the internationals home"button". I also tried the holding up and down volume while odin is running and that didn't work either. I'm guessing i have to install the android sdk and use adb commands. as a last resort unless someone else can tell me what im doing wrong. As I don't own a jig/ dongle. am I the only one who has this problem?

Don't press power at all. Turn the phone off. Now just press both vol+&- and insert your USB cable that is already hooked up to your pc running odin.
Thanks You Very Much I am A f#&!ng retard. That worked perfectly.
yeah you can only go into DL mode when the USB cable is connected to your phone. So it should work when you're connected, phone is off, and then you hold +/- and power.
BUT people find it best to do what killa said

Gnex: bricked or dead? Please help.

Hey guys, I just inherited a non-functioning gnex. The previous owner said the phone was working fine until it fell of a ledge whilst in a bag. There is no obvious physical damage to the phone chassis or screen.
When I try to power on the phone, it vibrates once but nothing further seems to happen and the screen stays black. Several minutes later though, it starts making some of the android system noises seemingly at a random. If I press either of the volume buttons, it makes the standard volume up or volume down ringer noise. But nothing else really happens other than a continuation of some of the system noises. Sometimes it seems to load a media file or a game once the phone has been powered on with the battery in. When connected to a windows machine, the device mounts and the contents of the phone are uncorrupted.
I've tried different combinations of the power buttons+volume rockers to get into recovery or fastboot, but so far no luck.
I've also tried the OMAP flash but can't get the computer to recognize the phone as a omap4460 for more than a couple of seconds. I've tried the Samsung drivers and the universal naked driver.
The only thing I haven't tried is ODIN (which I'm assuming won't work without being able to enter fastboot or recovery?), which might be last act of desperation before giving up. I'll update accordingly.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I think you have a damaged screen.
try to put phone in odin mode, pull battery out, reinsert it, press volume down with power button for 3 seconds, connect to pc, open odin, see if odin recognize your phone.
Yep it sound like everything is working except for screen. You can try to open it to disconnect and reconnect the screen: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+Nexus+Teardown/7182/1 (not sure exactly how) if it doesn't work you can order a replacement screen (eBay or such) and do it yourself (expensive and not easy) or give it to a repair shop (expensive but easy).
Sounds like it's a damaged LCD, not cheap...
I'd buy it off you if its the vz nexus (For parts.)
Thanks guys, I suspect it's the screen also. I haven't gotten around to Odin yet but that will likely be my final attempt at trying to revive the phone.
If it is just screen damage though, would that prevent me from entering recovery mode?
I should've probably already mentioned that this the international version of the gnex (i9250m from Bell Canada), so no LTE.

I'd recommend fastboot. Same thing, less steps, though you will need adb...
(If its available for your model, if not odin would be your only choice. )
Odin has a few more steps...
Long story short you wouldn't know if the screen is dead sadly, with out a replacement, best of luck!
Any insight on how to get into ADB or fastboot? As stated in the OP, the power button combos don't work. Furthermore, I don't have a way of enabling debugging mode.
I still haven't tried Odin, I won't have access to a windows pc for a few more days. I'll update accordingly.
Getting into fastboot is very easy:
Turn off. Since you can't see anything pull battery and reinsert to make sure.
Press volume up, volume down and power at the same time for few seconds.
You feel a vibration like it does on every boot.
That's it, you are in fastboot mode.
To verify, plug into computer and type fastboot devices
If it writes something like this:
0149BD34ABCDABCD fastboot
then you are in fastboot mode.
If it doesn't work, check the drivers. Remember that you need to install the drivers once for every mode (in Windows). fastboot? drivers. MTP? drivers. ADB? drivers. ADB in custom recovery? drivers. Download mode? drivers. OMAPFlash? drivers again. And different modes have different drivers too.

Cant get into download mode,

Im able to get into twrp recovery, and fastboot mode but not download mode... I wanted to put the phone back into stock and i thought wiping out everything would do so but i guess not.
Whenever i press the download mode command which i did was volume up down and power then plug into the laptop the 3 buttons will flash but my laptop won recognized it. I tried installing the LG Optimus G drivers but still unable to install it. Also TWRP says that the phone isnt rooted anymore and has no OS.

First off it's Vol Up + Vol Down while powered off and then plug into computer. DO NOT press the power button.
Secondly what ver. of windows and did the computer have any issues prior with connecting to the phone?
There is another fix but it's a bit drastic and wouldn't recommend it at this point.

oh well that might be the reason why. il try it out..im using windows 7 and it was working before i wiped everything.
link me to that fix if anything thanks
On my phone, Download Mode is only accessed when Vol + and - and power from a powered off state, while any USB cord is plugged in, either to a PC, or a wall charger.
After flashing, i noticed that the phone has some issues powering on and off normally i.e. phone completely died, plug the phone into the charger, screen turns on, phone is theoretically charging, but does not show any charging display icon. Which then forces me to unplug the phone, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, press and hold the power again to turn the phone on, and immediately plug it into the charger in order to get the phone to normally boot up. I flashed CM 10.2 from the original android dev thread. I think that was just a design flaw that LG had originally, but meh, what can i say.
Q&A?

Just another person who has Hard Bricked his M8

Hello Everyone
TL;DR Screen doesn't come on at all, battery led only flashes while it is rebooting (More details below), and When plugged in to my windows pc, a bunch of "Local Disk Found" pop up, some of the volumes I can access, most I cannot.
I have searched and searched the internet the past 24 for solutions, and have yet to find one. So imma walk you through what led up to the issue, as well what solutions I have tried.
Yesterday while I was trying to update my rom, I ended up getting stuck in what I thought was a boot loop. I then decided to hard reset my phone and go into recovery in hope to try to reinstall the rom. To my surprise, I could not access the internal sd card in the phone. Data was unmounted in the "Mount" settings and I could not what so ever remount it. After this I tried to side load it, but to no avail.
In response to all my attempts to fix the phone at that point, in frustration, I just said "**** it" and went into factory reset in the bootloader. This is where the hard brick happened. At this point, the screen would not come one, and the battery led was not lit when plugged in. I tried letting my phone charge over night and then, tried the "Battery Recalibrate method". I then tried the "Hold Pwr + Volume up for 10 seconds, then Power + volume Down until you access the bootloader"
After that, I then thought that the firmware was corrupted, so I tried to see if I could push an img to the phone, however fastboot does not see the device. I tried RUU, it does not see the device. I tried the HTC Unbrick method by Dexter that required me to install ubuntu and do some things in terminal, that also did not find the device. And here I am stuck. One thing unique to my situation that I have yet seen reported in the countless threads I have searched, is that when I plug my phone to my pc, a large amount of disk drives are found. Most of them are not accessible, but there are a couple that I can go in and see files for. Windows asks me if I want to format the ones I can't access. When hooked to my pc, I tried the the Power + volume button combinations, the only thing that seems to happen off of this is that my phone seems to reboots, and the battery indicator briefly shows.
Anyways, this is all I can remember. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I don't really think it is a hardware related issue since my phone does somewhat boot. However it seems it can't get to a bootloader what so ever.
Try holding power and vol up for a long time, like a minute or more. Try with and without charger attached, and after sitting on charger overnight.
If the bootloader is intact, the phone is likely not truly bricked (recoverable). And I don't see how you could have damaged hboot by the actions you mentioned.
What is the phone's original CID (carrier version) and are you s-on or s-off?

Verizon is the carrier version, and I am s-off.
Held vol + up for 5 minutes both with and without the charger. One time with the charger into my computer, and another into the wall. When it was in my pc, I can tell its doing nothing but rebooting over and over by the notification sound, and the constant "Found new disk" notifications I got. However still no luck, no screen turns on, no sign of hboot. I'm hoping to have some luck after leaving it on charge overnight and trying again.

So still nothing after leaving it on charge overnight and I held vol + up for about 5 minutes. Things seem grim.
I think the proper thing to do when you discovered internal storage was not mountable, would have been to use the TWRP option to format internal storage (in Advanced Wipe options).
But now I'm baffled as to what happened that would have rendered the phone unable to boot into fastboot mode. Fastboot won't recognize the device if you can't boot into fastboot mode, which leaves use kinda stuck.
So you didn't try to flash anything during the course of all this troubleshooting?
What you did - "Hold Pwr + Volume up for 10 seconds, then Power + volume Down until you access the bootloader" is totally wrong
I used to get this bunch of local disk pop-up and this is how I get out the problem
Connect the device to pc, you can hear notification sound on pc that device is connected. Ignore all those bunch of local disk pop-up
Press & hold both power button & volume up button until you hear another notification sound that device is disconnected from PC (that's the indication that device is restarted)
Release both power & volume up button and quickly press & hold volume down button (only this one button)
This should get you on bootloader

No, nothing was flashed except the original Rom update that got this snowball rolling (Not saying its the roms fault, most likely mine).

This is the one combination I forgot to mention in the op, sorry for that.
But I have tried this, before and after your post, still no luck.
If it worth mentioning, I can just hold power + down and it still reboots over and over. As well as just power. As a matter of fact, all button combinations reboot the phone over and over.

By it constantly connecting and disconnecting from my pc. If that doesn't mean its rebooting, then I guess I'm mistaken.

Well, it might mean that.
If it in fact is rebooting over and over on its won, simply holding the vol down button for a long time, should put you into bootloader (on the next reboot "cycle"). Again, assuming it is in fact rebooting, and that bootloader is intact.

Phone can't connect to pc, bricked

Hi users, recently I wanted to go back form miui pie to oreo using this thread : https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/help/how-to-revert-miui-10-pie-to-miui-10-t3940244
I had some problems with flashing, phone got disconnected from pc during fastboot flashing (loose cable) and after reconnecting I couldn't flash anything so I restarted the phone. Now all I've got is black screen (the backlight works but I can't see anything) I can restart the phone when holding power button and doing the combination of power up and vol+, but it's the same. If I connect the phone to pc in this conditon nothing happens, I can't hear any sound indicating that phone is connected, nothing in device manager, I even disconnected the battery and tried the edl pins but it's the same result, pretty weird. Can anyone give me any hint?

Yeah, but the point is, you can connect to pc and flash things and I can't do anything, I suspect my computer fried usb board or something on the motherboard bc it's impossible I can't get qualcomm hs-usb loader 9008.
As it turns out, after rebooting the pc, it doesn't boot anymore. Phone doesn't work and pc. Coincidence? formatting pc was needed (pc works now), could it be a virus or my power supply simply gave too much voltage to the usb? I was doing everything during the storm, y'know, thunders.. I don't know anymore, I tried even connecting to a different pc and the result is the same. I can't do anything on my phone, could it be broken usb board?
EDIT: It connects now in edl, I was shorting the pins incorrectly (can't touch the ground [shielding] while shorting the pins). Pls close this thread.
