Hox Factory Reset - Internal storage question, Please help regarding it . - HTC One X

My hox is on complete stock and never rooted .
I just noticed a slight difference in the 3 ways of factory reset of hox .
I just for some reason wanted to do a factory reset ... so first I did it the normal in setting option "back up and reset" way , and tick marked the option to erase internal storage too . Then I got 24.24 storage left when I completed the setup and 1gb of internal being used in "others" by default .
Then I reset it the recovery way and still the same , I got 24.24 storage left when I completed the setup and 1gb of internal being used in "others" by default .
But when I just went in the bootloader and there is also the option of "factory reset" , when I did that and complete the setup and all , I saw that "others section of internal memory" that 1gb got free and I got completely full 25.24 with maybe just few mb used due to updates, etc .
Note : lol I just after this did the "erase phone storage" , and storage got back to 24.24 available and "other" folder came up with 1 gb used , but why ?
Everything seems to be fine with sys apps, etc but still I just need to know as that 1gb is gone from "others" in internal storage, has something important system related gone or what was in it please ?!
Would highly appreciate the correct/accurate help!

I'd noticed this myself, presumed it was an HTC formatting issue with the 'other' being reserved for media/system files. Works fine either way anyway.
Still missing the Xperia Arc, Shantu?

although i have all that my phone keeps telling me when i try to install any new application there is insufficient space please manage some applications to free space
that was the first strike now when i open the sd and phone storage beside the sd and internal memory space there isn't any numbers ( imean it has to show number like for say 515 mb free and so on right ) insted of that there is 2 letters PB and nothing more
i tried to do app 2 sd helped a lil but the prob;em kept asking for more space
so please help me fix this i really love android revulotion so much and i want to keep using it
Try wiping everything and reflashing the rom.

If you have a LOT of apps, and re-install them all at the same time, sometimes the dalvik cache seems to get full and the phone reports that it is out of memory when you try to install another app. If that's the case, try clearing data from Market and wiping the dalvik cache in Recovery.
thnx
thanks every one but can u tell me how can i delet a thread ???
i did what u told u but nothing changed still the same problem
sone one told me to do partitions in the ext4 or it is some thing related to this fact can any one tell me what did he mean ?

The DHD has a lot of internal memory so can handle a lot of apps installed. However if you have a really large amount of apps, it is possible to make a special partition on your SD card that acts as an extension to the internal memory. This is called an sd-ext partition and it can be done in recovery. However you also need special scripts to make it work. It's mostly used on older phones like the Desire that have less memory than the DHD, or on older versions of Android. Since Froyo came out, if they start to run low on internal memory, most people just use the "Move to SD" feature that is built-in to Android (Settings/Applications/Manager Applications then select an app to see if the "Move to SD Card" button is enabled).
However it sounds like you still have a lot of internal memory free, so it's more likely to be a problem with the Android system and the Market not recognising that you have free space. Try clearing Market data as well as clearing the Dalvik cache. If you haven't already tried it, go to Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All Applications and find the Market, select it and press the "Clear Data" button. Then go into Recovery and wipe dalvik cache again and reboot. You might need to wipe Market data again. Someone else had this in the ARHD thread and had to do this more than once before it settled down.
As for MD5, it's a checksum - a way to make sure the file downloaded correctly. Just google "how to check md5" for loads of useful info.

[Q] How to make Wildfire recognize SD partition as internal storage

Hello development community
I'm currently running an CM 9 on an unlocked, rooted Wildfire S. A while ago I created a 4 GB partition in my SD card (Ext 2 format I believe) and set link2sd to install all new apps to this partition (this is the tutorial I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31544540 )
Anyway lately I've been having trouble installing new apps and larger updates (Facebook and DoubleTwist, namely) and my phone keeps telling me that I don't have enough memory. I tried wiping all my cache data and generally cleaning up, still no luck.
So I checked my storage usage in my settings, that's when things got interesting. My phone is telling me that I have 150 MB total of internal storage (which is how much there is without the partition), but somehow I have 229 MB used with 21.63 MB free. Doesn't take a mathematician to figure out that i can't be using 250 MB when there's only 150 MB to be had, however this 250 MB it's telling me I have is a lot less than the 4 GB of space I formatted and am linking everything too.
Does anyone know a way to get the phone to recognize the partition as internal space so it stops telling me I'm running out? I should be able to install any apps to my phone via my computer since they won't install directly from Google Play. Or is there a way I can set everything to just automatically install to the partition? That would solve my app installing problems but I might run into storage problems later on depending on how full my caches get. The more steps your give me the better, I'm still pretty new to this stuff :silly:
Thanks for any help!
PS. I checked some other threads but nothing I saw was helpful; so sorry if this is answered somewhere else, but I didn't find it.
After flashing rom did u flash the latest cronmod script

First of all, you can never use 4GB of your card as a partition Since there are some restrictions-- 100mb internal is needed for every 500mb sd-ext. We are getting around 100+ internal only for most of the ROMs , right? So you can use only around 600-700MB of the SD card as a partition.
Use min-partition tool and format your card and better make use of that card to the max. Format with ext4 (your choice) for around 700-800MB (Since 1/2/3/4GB is totally useless considering the above restriction) . After that, download and place this on SD card .
Before we go any further make sure that there are no scripts already loaded in that ROM you are using. (Apps2SD, Link2SD, etc). You need to have init.d support to make this work. This , you can verify by opening the ROM zip package and follow the path - system/etc . If you see a "init.d" folder there, then you have this support. All CM9 ROMs have this (I believe). So, now you make sure that the ROM whichever you are trying doesn't have any link2sd or apps2sd pre-loaded in it.
Then do the following.
* Put both the ROM and INT2EXT file on the SD card.
1- Goto Recovery.
2- Wipe Dalvik Cache, Battery Stats (Twice - Just to make sure )
3- Factory reset , Wipe Cache partition (Twice)
4- 'Choose zip from SD card' and select your ROM. Wait until it has finished installation.
5- Once Finished, again 'Choose zip from SD card' and flash/install the INT2EXT file that you have already placed on SD card.
6- Once done, reboot the phone. Goto settings->Apps and check if you have 'added' memory now
7- Go to recovery again and Flash GAPPS.
You are all set to Rock and Roll
Check this if you need more information
Hey, this will give you better space manipulation than the Link2SD, but still this is also limited to use, You can't fill all the internal memory. That will considerably lag your phone. Use the internal memory wisely
I guess this helps. And don't forget to thank "croniccorey" for his work
Thank you so much!!!

Thank you so much for the post! I know it's been a while since the OP, but this worked perfectly! My phone now tells me that I have 705MB of internal storage. I believe all my problems have now been solved. I literally can't say "Thank you" enough!

[Q] Wiping ALL data?

Galaxy s3 T999 tmobile phone.
Liquid Smooth ROM. - Amazing rom btw. I cant thank those folks enough for their brilliant work
TWRP for recovery
Ive done numerous dalvic/system/cache/data wipes through twrp in preparation for new roms. But my INTERNAL 16 gb SD card always shows that i have around 12GB USED. thats with no personal apps installed
Heres my question. How do i remove all unnecessary data thats hogging up space. I want a CLEAN space to work with!
I do have 4 twrp recovery files (4gb worth of data?) stored in there. Im assuming the system uses about 3 gb's. plus the gapps and liquid rom are only 194 mb combined. So that accounts for maybe 7 or 8 gb
So how do i do a totally clean wipe without losing twrp, recovery files AND root!
the only wipe option ive never used is USB-OTG. (USB On The Go?) No idea what it is or what it does. so i never messed with it. Ive read that it acts like a driver of some sort to allow usb devices to communicate with each other..
Ive also never gone into the Format data section of twrp out of fear that i might wipe the wrong things and render my phone useless
One article i read said that i might have to revert back to stock? im hoping thats not so. And do a factory wipe. Is that different from TWRP's functions? Im assuming that i would lose root.
they said din flash to stock
Odin master clear (or wipe SD from settings)
*2767*3855# on the phones keypad ...(i think codes in general only work on stock TW)
Do i have to format the sd card? would i lose important partitions that would delete the recovery system?
any ideas? i considered opening a partition wizard app to see the different partions on the internal sd card.
I'm no expert on this, but I think that Liquid Smooth has a place in Settings to let you view the space allocation of the storage in your phone and external SD card.
Go to Settings > Storage (or something similar) and take a look at how much space is being allocated of each of the different types of data. It might give you a better idea on what might be taking up that additional ~4GB of space.
If you can, provide us with a screenshot of the Storage screen. If not, you can just type them here so we can better understand what might be going on.
Back up internal sdcard to your computer.
Wipe data/factory reset.
Wipe /data/media.
You can do this through TWRP. Won't lose anything except contents of your internal sdcard. Which is why you back it up first.
Don't forget the formatting of the filesystem does this. Just like windows a 100gig hard drive formats to a smaller amount.

Phone stuck at data corrupt (Format DATA) page when boots up

I had cm13 on my c2004, and i was using adopted storage (internal + external). I updated the os from its update section (settings > about phone > updates). After update, after the boot, the screen shows Internal storage encrypted> I input password, it says storage corrupted, format data. I try formatting. it takes me to recovery(twrp 3.0.0), which cant format data,as \data isnt accessible (Log attached). I tried Flashtool to reflash the stock. (I am attaching Flashtool log also).
. I also tried the fota restore to remove recovery as well. but it isnt happening.
I just need to flash the stock back. Any help is greatly appreciated.

there is actually a big button on the wipe page, [Format Data] that formats data, you were probably using the advanced wipe / factory reset which just deletes stuff from an already working data partition.
keep in mind that [Format Data] wipes all of your internal storage and settings.
I am trying to fix the phone since the last 3 days. I have tried everything.
Format data doesn't work. (the big button you mentioned)

Not much internal mem? [GT-l9195 / cyanogenmod 13.0]

Hey guys and girls,
my S4 mini dosn't have alot of internal memory after I flash any of these roms? - I did try google and it said to find and remove the log files mostly (which I have done to no avial)
Is this normal? - Its annoying me because I can only have a few big apps, so I cant have any / many games or I have to uninstall something else?

Depends on what you mean by "doesn't have a lot of internal memory". Give some more details.
Normal the other culprites are also the thumbnail folder (of pictures) delete using an explorer that shows hidden folders (you won't loose your actual pictures), or the LOST.dir, delete that.
It is maybe more general question :
Is there any place where are old firmware files are stored?
My gf S4 is rooted now by me, but before she had questions about update and she never choose yes. I am trying to free up some space as for now it is only 650 MB free on internal. Ofcourse I move all apps ( which was possible) to SD. Clear dalvik cache and cache partition.
It is on stock rom.
@mazak23
/cache
or
/fota
use file explorer with root
well I always Clear dalvik cache and cache partition from recovery before a flash - aswell as system and data? (I forget the names of them)
my internal storage is: 4.07 gb used out of 5.26gb
I dont know what more info you mean tho?
try DiskUsage from the Play Store. It will display how much internal space is used by each app/folder.
You can use flex storage/adaptable storage part of Marshmallow's new feature. You can google it for more. Simply put, you format your micro sd card to make it device specific, from then on it acts as if it's internal storage. Note that you can no longer hotswap the card to another device.

4.07 gb used out of 5.26gb seems pretty normal ....... though mine is only about 3.3GB now as all camera & vids are set to save to external storage.
I mean what folders are big, or bigger than you would normally expect. Tap internal storage to show folders or better still use an app like l0tz1009 says so you can find all files and it shows details of how big they are, dates etc
Using settings/storage/ will show very basic info but gives the following. "Apps" this is normally quite big as that's where your apps go, mine takes up about 3GB. "Images", "Video", "Audio" can be big depending how you use your phone & storage (all mine are small as camera saves to my external SD) if any of them are excessive you may need to go through and delete or move photos or whatever. Then you get "other" this should normally be quite small, mine is only 487MB, & also cached data, mine is only 280MB. Sometimes these last two get very big, "other" is where I had the problem with "thumbnails" which were taking up over 2GB. But you might have a rouge app writing big data files or something, if so clear data for all apps or just data for rogue app.
Edit: dalvik, cache etc will not affect your storage partition size as separate partitions.

Thanks guys
Thanks too, since I had the same issue but didn't look into it until you'd mentioned it in your post.
