[Q] Why does the G2 have so much more development? - LG Optimus G Pro

I have a GPro... And a coworker of mine has the G2 and after messing with his G2 for several days I can say I honestly prefer the GPro over the G2. Screens bigger, I prefer the off screen back and menus buttons , removable battery.
sd-card.. Big battery..
So can someone honestly tell me why the G2 has so much more development then the G-Pro?????:what:
Don't get me wrong I greatly appreciate all the devs working on our phone...
You guys are great.
Its just kinda disheartening when I go look at the G2 form and see all the development they have over there.

Wider release and better marketing support. The G Pro was ONLY released on AT&T in the US which immediately limits the number of people, developers included, who have access to the device. The fact that the same basic device (G2) was released on all major carriers at around the same time, with a much bigger marketing push, meant that tons of people got interested in it and purchased it.

Its still ridiculous to me that a "in my opinion" lesser device gets so much more attention. Oh well...:banghead:

You're not alone with that opinion @esimon311. I don't see any reason why G Pro should not be under the limelight. They should have proudly marketed it as a phablet superior to Galaxy Note 2!
What's worse is that there isn't any marketing at all by LG for this phone in my place. I only learned of its availability for purchase from big vendors.
LG can learn at least a thing or two about marketing their device from Samsung.

LG's reminding me so much of Commodore in the late 1980s: great products, terrible marketing.

optimus G pro forum?

hello LG users.
I am confused as to various LG models, is Optimus G Pro a minor variation of the Optimus G or a successor? If it is a successor phone, I can't seem to find the Optimus G pro forum on XDA.
Can anyone clear this up for me?

Yes its a successor, the next model. OG is F180, and OGPro is F240
I've already asked to make a separate forum, but seems like it will be made when OG Pro will hit the shelves in USA
When will it hit the US? Deciding if it's this or the S4

I don't believe it's an upgrade. It's more like a competitor to the Galaxy Note class.

You right, my friend bought one. That just a big version of Optimus G with some minor improvments like full-hd screen, sd card etc.
Software is same, cant find any difference except the model number

I own one. I wouldn't say they're minor improvements. The SD card slot, HUGE removable battery, and beautiful full-HD screen are what sold me on it. The CPU is also clocked higher than the G. Better front camera too with double video feature. It also has an IR blaster. Last, but not least it has a Q button and Qapps that allow multitasking - windows on top of others with adjustable transparency.
No forum yet for the Optimus G Pro, however we do have this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40085152

The Optimus G is on par/size with other regular Smartphones, the Optimus G Pro is on par with Phablets like the Galaxy Note/Note 2. Of course the OG Pro is an upgrade over those by having a Full HD 1080p screen, 32GB of internal storage (23GB of usable space) Snap Dragon 600 processor and bigger battery.
GN3 will no doubt look to reclaim the king of phablet title in the fall, but for now the OG Pro does rein supreme and unless Samsung really ups their game with the Octo Exynos Processor, more RAM and more Internal Storage then the OG Pro is still the top dog.

if the rumors are true of the gn3 being 5.9 or greater inches ill pass. plus the at&t model will have a locked bootloader.
The OG Pro is a sweet device, but once I get something I am always looking to the next thing. The GN3 will be of great interest to me, but I won't be a pre-order or inline day 1 person. I won't be jumping on anything until I hear there is dev support, rooting, bootloader unlocking and work arounds. I jumped to AT&T for flexibility (GSM) and away from Verizon. If I have to go International so be it.

Returned to my Optimus G Pro from Galaxy S4

Just a note after my Galaxy S4 disaster (s4 screen broke in my pocket)
I went back to my Optimus G Pro. And what a difference. I fell for the hype and benchmarks of the i9500 8 core. Ok so my OGP gets 19k in antutu and my S4 got 29k. 10k more. Thing is in the real word. My optimus g pro is sooo much quicker and snapper in everything it does. Typing is faster and easier I could go on and on. Benchmarks don't mean jack and I finally learnt that the hard way. Real life usage is what counts.
The launcher and S_Bloat make the S4 stutter and lag. If an s4 owner says that not true either they are immune to it and use to it. Or pure blinded fanboys.
If you know someone with an S4 put the phones side by side and do phone tasks. You'll see stutters and lag on the S4 but smoothness on the OGP.
I wasted a lot of money since my S4 broke, but glad I have the best phone out there for me. The Optimus G Pro. King of phablets.
My F240K next to my weak S4 that could not live in my jeans pocket without cracking an amloed screen.

Could not agree with you more. I have a galaxy s4 and it lags and sucks. The LG Optimus G Pro is a much faster device. I agree most folks claiming galaxy s4 is the best are pure fanbois. It's funny these same fanbois make fun of apple fanbois and they are not better. They take whatever Samsung feeds them and they love it. Galaxy s4 battery also sucks it's just not a wow phone and sub par even thought specs are similar to LG.

Yep its over rated. I've found everything my Optimus G Pro does, is much faster and better than the S4. I forgot to mention. The camera is faster and better indoors. My S4 suffered horrible shutter lag. Music quality is better. Battery much better. I could go on and on.
I was blinded into thinking the S4 was better. Good marketing in Samsung part I must admit. They are more like Apple more as each new device is released.
The i8910 Omnia was good, the S2 was good. S3 onwards = made for the masses. And I fell for it.
LG It seems have stuck to there plan, if they just improve there updates to new android versions they could be selling much more as their hardware is top notch.

Also it seems the sg4. And the HTC one are having some strange build issues. I was reading about camera lens problems on the one and screen breaking in the sg4. The sad part is how rude and nasty those forum are becoming. Glad I pick up this phone and the people here are more helpful and appears to have a better sense of community. Thanks guys for being great people.

Yes I know what you mean. I post about my screen breaking on my S4 in the s4 forums and was accused of lying and making it all up. Got some nasty replies. That I must have dropped the phone. Many users there are now completely blind and cant hear anything bad about their beloved s4.
Good thing was a few other users on aged accounts also posted the same issue with the screen (amoled) cracking in their pockets. The lag too from the poor software launcher goes mostly unnoticed apart from comments like root and uninstall the bloat, issue fixed.
Shouldn't be like that in the first place. Well OGP will be my phone for a while till the OG2P is out. Well done LG.
Agreed
I also felt that s4 has no any thing which is perfectly crafted...everything is half baked....octa core to air view to heating to low memory to screen smearing etc...only gimmic is perfect
But ..bitter truth THAT LG Optimus G Pro has everything better except Dev Support...
If this device gets dev support like note devices...it will be great for long run

It is the throttling capping going in play, if you disable throttling GPro goes as high as 24200 in Antutu, pretty comparable to S4 as i9505 has [email protected] and GPro has [email protected] only

No, I'm pretty sure it is not safeguard but mere care of consumers' comfort. Look how hot could G Pro go on early ROMs, I assume before they've created new updated thermal.conf

Please do share how to so this, increase the throttling temp range
I have done some editing in system/etc/thermald.conf
Warning messing with values here could cause heat damage to your OGP
Run adb logcat | grep Thermal
You can see when it throttles
LG have various temp sensor alarms that clock down the CPU when it gets to 57 degrees if I reading it right.

No, I don't think it'll help with lags but anyhow, this is it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2296447
I think lags are from incorrect idle activities implementation either on Qualcomm side on LG side, the overheating is not to blame here
give it time
They are brand new devices, so give it a few months before you seriously judge them.
For example, scrolling in Chrome is smooth as butter on my GSII and yet I get lots of stutters scrolling Chrome on my Optimus G Pro, even though it is has faster everything [cpu/gpu/ram]. That being said, I am not going to call the Optimus G Pro junk, just because it isn't perfect.
Thats down to software. I use the Internet browser and its fast and smooth. Chrome isn't. And typing about:debug then hitting settings button allows you debug setting like making the user agent desktop.

[Q] How happy are you with your LG Optimus G Pro?

Dear fellow forum users,
I'm currently evaluating a new Android phone. I'm pondering between the Optimus G Pro and waiting for the G2.
What are your experiences and your level of satisfaction with this phone running LG stock Android? And how active do you think is the community regarding custom ROMs? (I prefer as close to Nexus-like Android as possible).
Thanks for your feedback.

HI Buddy,
G2 has a better camera & slightly better viewing angle. The jelly bean 4.2.2 which is ported on G2 will soon be out in market as soon as G2 start retailing. then you can port that rom to GPRO. Our wonderful Devs are already waitng for that.
Now everything is almost same (Snapdragon 800 & 600 doesnt differ in real life scenario, user experience is almost same).
GPRO is cheaper & has a big screen, Now if you dont want to pay extra only for a OIS camera then go checkout with GPRO.
Have a nice day !!!!

Hi Kelvin,
OIS plays a significant role when you are taking a picture of moving object & reduces the blurr. It also depends of the capabilities of the Photographer.
Now it depends how often you use this feature(or how much it matters to you). for example: if you shoot pictures while you drive or during a footbal match. it will be a handy feature. Now it depends what you are going to do with your pics at the end of the day just sharing on social media,
From my personal point of view this feature doesnt matter a lot on a phone. because whenever i am on a vacation or travel i usualy prefer to take my Digital Camera with me.
Just note down your requirement & compare. This will be helpful to decide.

Thanks, buddy!
Confused!!
For the life of me, I could not decide between the G2 and the G Pro. I initially wanted the G Pro for the big screen, but then because the specs of the G2 are more 'future proof', I went with that.
In the back of my mind, I still want the G Pro, and still have time to swap my G2 for it. Do you think the G Pro (Snapdragon 600) power will last 3 years and not cause lag/stutter? Do you think app developers can even keep up with this constant hardware update? Snapdragon 600 should still be powerful enough for years to come, no? Reason being, I'm not the type to buy a phone every year, and I like to keep mine for at least 3 years.
Thanks!

The direction Android is headed is toward better optimization. KitKat makes even old phones seem fast. I have KitKat running on my old Galaxy S3 with only 1GB of RAM and a slower Exynos processor, and it flies. Zero lag.
Three years from now, the LG OG Pro will still be a great phone, and it will probably still be running 4.1.2 officially, sad to say, but you aren't limited to stock ROMs, thankfully.

I don't understand your confusion, to me the choice is extremely simple:
1. Does the phone have enough storage?
To me even 32GB (maximum available for G2) is very limiting cause I take videos a lot and keep a lot of music on my device. Optimus G Pro has a SD card slot. Also, meenova or similar is not an option to me because I keep my phones in my pockets and something protruding from the USB socket will surely destroy that socket very soon.
2. Does the phone have a replaceable battery?
I am a very heavy user and current phones really don't stand a chance in terms of battery lifespan, current batteries have a service life which is not sufficient to me (I already killed and replaced one battery on my Galaxy Note within a year due to normal wear). Replacing a battery at a service center for an undisclosed amount of money (usually more than 50 EUR) is absolutely unacceptable to me when I could buy a battery off-the-shelf for 15 EUR and replace it myself in phones with user-replaceable batteries.
3. Is the phone too big to handle and carry?
Since I moved from a SE Xperia Arc S to a Galaxy Note I found out that to me the bigger screen size is a lot more important than the ability to handle the phone with one hand.
The performance margin between the two would be marginal in most scenarios (even to me as a heavy user) and the possible future updates are almost a non-issue because manufacturers tend to stop software support for their phones before the next meaningful Android upgrade has emerged (most Android version upgrades are too incremental to me to make or break the deal, at least since 4.1).
they both great you wont be disappointed
camper the specs and decide
i choose GPro cos:
cost even for 32GB
5.5"
sdcard / battery is replaceable and good
very good performance for my usage I'm not a gamer
great experience from stock [ no lags and GUI is cool ]
easier to hold then note 2 or 3
disadvantages:
camera in low light
lg support no KK?
IMO build is OK but protection needed and recommended
Am I happy with my G Pro? yeah, so happy with it......
so far so great.....

I say go for the g pro. Ive been through 6 phones in less than 2 months and g pro is my fav. I had Xperia Ion, Samsung gs2, Atrix 4g, HTC One, Oppo Find 5 and Nexus 4. Obviously N4 and HTC One had the most devs but g pro is still fairly new and it has so much screen real estate. Im pretty sure once someone gets their hands on that g2 os we will have a port. Things are moving on this thread, slowly, but we are getting there. Out of all my phones i still think g pro is the best.

I feel DIRTY

I was a Samsung fanboy when my first experience with them was the Galaxy Note... then on to the Note 2...and NO I didnt jump on the Note three...because the Optimus G Pro was available from ATT and OH MY GOD I have loved this phone for the last year.
It's Durable, fast, root-able, beautiful to look at and use and well.. I love it.
But the other day while talking to ATT about my account (and threatening to leave for TMO) they decided to give me an early upgrade (1 yr early!) so I jumped on the S5 to see what all the fuss was about.
I have to say its a nice phone, MUCH lighter and thinner and just as fast as my OG Pro...I'm not missing the .4 inches of screen real estate I was expecting to notice, but after a few days I haven't found anything that I dont like about the GS5...
EXCEPT!!!!
Its locked down, no exploit in place and it looks like it might never be rooted.
So I'm torn... the G3 is being announced in like 90 mins... and hopefully available on ATT shortly after...and the G Pro 2 is out...yet not available state side.
So what am I to do? If the G3 wows me like it is probably going to do.. I will beat feet back to the ATT store and return my GS5 and use my OG Pro till the G3 is available for purchase.....
I really do like the dust/water proof-ness of my GS5...I've already dropped it in the dog's water bowl and of course, no issues at all. That's a nice thing to have with a 700 dollar device.
Anywho... I'm hoping the G3 really wows the hell out of me, because I definitely like that 5.5 inc QHD display
Go for g3.
Previously I thought super amoled were best. But after using and experiencing this g pro for about an year, i feel it's IPS display is far better than super amoled. Yesterday I played for a couple of minutes with s4. I was shocked to know and feel that how much inferior it felt compared to ogp. And also felt the screen size was too small after having g pro for one year. In fact the s4 seemed very inferior to me compared to ogp. So I can easily visualize how inferior s5 might feel compared to g3.

Samsung is junk. AMOLED displays sometimes get screen burn in. Mine did.
And when I posted about this Here at xda, every time a person would come along right Behind me and say "I've never had screen burn in". And I would point out that I said SOMETIMES, not all the time.
But yes, I hate Samsung.
Unfortunately, Camera has stopped.
The Only Samsung phones have my eternal Respect and love are

I remember my i717, between Flapjaxx ROM's and JamieD81 Paranoid Android's builds it kept me busy, it was the beginning of the JB era.

Should I buy the LG G3?

Hey guys so I have the E971 I love it really I am using ported kitkat paulicat rom and I really love the LG G series
the thing is I don't know if I should buy the LG G3 or not? I can afford it in good price
and the thing that offical kitkat haven't arrived to the E971 bothers me
I would say go for it. The generation jump alone is worth it, plus if you can get it for a good price then you should take the opportunity.
Personally I wouldn't buy anything until seeing whats going to occur with 64bit. And i was kinda disappointed with the LG-E975 performance after coming from galaxy S1. Other than camera and lte/4G, LG-E975 is not massively faster than SGS1 (i dont play games). What makes a phone great is its development community that continues to find ways to make a phone better and up to date with current android version. I think we have a great dev community for LGOG. A G3 is going to do the same things as LGOG, but slightly faster.

Really...
If you think the G isn't fast enough compared to SG1 why do you compare the G3 to the G.
The difference between this 2 is even little than the G compared to SG1.

In specifications, yes there is a big difference. However, in my experience of how i use a phone those specs dont convert to a great difference in daily use. Its kind of like buying a new car, its nice and you drive it faster to begin with. After a month or so you drive it the same as your old car and get to the same places. Your phone carrier keeps the internet at relatively the same speed too.

That's why I said that the difference between the g3 and the G is even lower,so there's no point in comparing the 2, in your case of course.
If you don't benefit of the features of the phone then there's no point for you to spend much money on this

if you have money to spend why not
but it's not a good reason to change phone if the uptade does not come. IMHO

you are all guys right, the thing is that the knock on/off feature can be really useful to me since I use the phone a lot during meetings and the thing is I don't the LG will continue updating the LG OG anymore and the G3 can stay updated for 2-3 years ahead
but I don't know If I should wait for LG G4 or get this one that's my question
anyway thank you a lot
Trust me or not, you won't ever have 2-3 years support, maybe a year and an half, I would wait an half year or even a year and then decide to buy a new phone.
FWIW, my biggest issue with G3 is its size. Performance and functionality definitely gets improved with each generation, and there is no reason for not getting the best if you can afford it, but the the whole "bigger is better" trend is just driving me bonkers. I mean, with every new flagship from any OEM, the phones get bigger and bigger. G's size is perfect for me. G2 is marginally bigger (more if you add a case), but still manageable. That would be the largest form-factor for me to use comfortably. Everything bigger (and G3 is quite noticeably bigger) is just unreasonable for a phone, and getting close to a tablet territory. I never understood WTH a "phablet" is. There is no such thing in my book -- you can't sit between two chairs, you just have to put your a$$ on one or the other. Anyway, just my $0.02 worth...
