Review - Dock and Power Battery - Moto X Accessories

So i bought these 2 bad boys during the discount Motorola had on their store and thought it would be nice to share with you guys my thought of them.
Have used them for almost 4 days now and here are my comments:
The Dock
It's the first dock i ever get for a device so it's been a nice experience overall and i do enjoy having my phone there standing up waiting for me to ask something away. The design is pretty cool and to be honest the color set on my Moto X Dev Edition rides just nicely with the color scheme of it so no complains there.

It is a bit pricey for what you get, which basically is the dock, a wall plug and an usb cable (usb to microusb), have to add that the cable and wall plug was kinda crappy, it made this little noise which for what i know of electronics is a capacitor not working properly so i just replaced that with the OEM cable and plug.
The usb mount part gives you movemente freedom up untill 75 degrees aprox, so that's nice.
Now as for the features or the use of it, i move it from my PC to my night stand table and finally i see a use for the daydream function which kinda sucked for me since they released it. Of course i am pretty much lost on which application can benefit of this feature but as for now having the clock itself helps me out alot when i wake up at night to take a piss - you know.
To wrap it up, i like the dock but i still consider it pricey for a regular user so unless you have the money for it - find an alternate solution.
The Battery
You guys know how the Moto X gets a kick ass battery life, well i use my phone like alot, seriously i kill the battery in 6 hours cause i steam music on LTE, keep FB nonstop plus i have my wireless headset running 24/7. With Kit Kat i do have a bigger drain but meh i really don't care much about it since i can always charge it or use the battery.
It takes around 4 hours to charge completely and it has the ability to charge 2 devices at the same time or at least i believe it does since it has 2 output connections.
It also has an additional Micro USB port which is attached to the powerpack itself so if you don't carry cables with you, it is just the perfect companion. And for the 3000 mah capacity i seriously think this one is a no brainer. Again it is an expensive tool but i honestly believe it could save you when you are out of the city, on a trip or simply out of juice.
So far i have charged it twice and used it to charge my phone once, it still had around 50% capacity which is indicated with little LED dots in the front of it, just above the Motorola Logo. One minor detail, the plastic does tend to catch a lot of scratches, you can see them on the final pic.
In conclusion i would suggest you to grab the powerpack if you travel alot or if you just simply use the phone as much as i do.
Again, there are much more cheaper solutions but to be honest i don't trust chinese batteries, had a bad experience with one of them. Kinda blowed up on me so, noty.
Please feel free to ask anything about the dock or battery i will try to answer and provide feedback as needed.
sorry for the language, english ain't my first.
thanks

Ive been trying to pick up a dock, they have been out of stock all week. Sucks

Envy. In my country Motorola doesn't sell accessories and it's impossible to find them.

I'm liking the dock, but i don't find a need for a power battery
Off-Topic: Hey what case is that?

It's a cheap bumper case I got off Amazon, let me know if you want the link.
Agree with you on the battery but i had a $50 coupon i had to use on their store so that plus the discount made me buy those.

The Moto X one? Why/How much?

Are you saying the only reason you got the battery pack was because of the coupon you had? Just curious because I was thinking about getting one of those Anker ones. They seem to do more for the price.
But don't blame you if you basically got that battery pack for free.

On the dock, how much friction is required for insertion / removal of the phone on the USB connector?

I went to the TMO store with the intent of buying one and changed my mind once I saw the size. They add a lot of thickness and they have a lump on the side where the USB connector hooks up to the phone.

could you go back and get a picture of it next to stock phone, so we can see the size comparison?
I'm really amazed at how reluctant manufacturers (HTC?) are to utilize the damn charging contacts on the side of the phone! Seriously, what moron thought it would be a better idea to have a skin with a huge lump on the side to house a USB plug instead of simply wiring three small contacts into side of the skin? Come on! Pull your head out of your a$$es HTC!

This is pretty much the correct answer.
I don't understand it either. The pins were one of the reasons I decided to keep this phone over the Nexus S. I assumed we would get all kinds of cool accessories that made use of them. Alas, nothing.
Depressing, indeed.
I was excited about this accessory, until I saw that giant lump on the side. It's pretty ridiculous, if you ask me.
The Nexus One had the pins as well, during the life of the phone the only two items to use them were the HTC desk dock and car dock. Manufacturers seem to forget about them.
Whats so great about the pins anyway?
Saw it and I'll pass on this too...wth were they thinking on this one!

I love my nexus dock granted it didn't come issue free (won't dock right if not seated properly) but it automatically goes to clock mode and I had it hooked up to my stereo where I streamed/listed to my music docked/undocked.

Pins are great, you don't have to plug in your phone to charge your phone. All you do is just set it to the dock. Now for pins on a car dock, it automatically goes to carmode. I just hope if tmobile makes a cardock they learned from the mistakes of the nexus ver and add a 3.5mm jack in the back.

The pins are larger, and can allow for greater amperage depending on the internal circuitry. The Nexus One car dock would charge my phone *incredibly* fast; it was awesome. It was the one charger that could keep up with (and easily surpass) the discharge rate of the battery when using Google Navigation.

Ive wondered about this myself. I have one (got it for christmas), and while my battery life has increased, it seems to be getting worse and worse, especially if I ever go without the skin (ie, to charge the skin and still be able to use the phone). I swear, I was in the car on the way to college and had half the battery drain in oon hour powerskin was depleted. Mind you, that skin lasted a good 7+ hours, but then my phone nearly died before i got to school to charge it.
this thing is quite epic fail. i dont even mind the bulge its the fact that it keeps charging the battery at all times which scares the crap outta me. price is cheap at 40 but still not worth it. returning it tomorrow.
My Review
I have had this power skin for a week and I overall Like it. One thing this doesn't help is from not shattering the screen.. Because I shattered mine day 2 I had this powerskin, but I overall enjoy it and I don't even worry about the battery anymore.
A trick and something I noticed to make it not to always charge your device is if you charge just the powerskin by itself and unplug it then put your phone in it. It will not charge your phone until you turn it on by pressing the button on the back.
If you need more battery juice and longer battery life I suggest you get you will notice a difference.
I dont even know which tmobile stores are selling powerskins for this phone
just call and ask. alot of stores have them cause of the cancer lump on the side of the phone lols.

Seidio 3800 MAH Extended Battery

http://www.seidioonline.com/t-mobile-galaxy-s-II-3800-extended-life-battery-p/bacy38ssg2t-bk.htm
Has anyone gotten this battery yet? Does anyone know if they will make a case for it like seidio made cases for the evos. Thanks
Looks to me like that battery would give an sgs2 the belly bump of a lady at 7 months with two buns in the oven...
Since it's unlikely you'll ever find a case for it, why not buy an extra battery or buy a power skin case?
Using tapatalk on my Galaxy 2 to post this!
Shouldn't it come with a case?

I tried the powerskin and it was a pos, all around the sides wouldnt fit right and the charged notification would beep a lot
I agree with the fit/finish issues on the powerskin case. Wished they'd made it fit the phone as well as the Vibrant version did.
The beeping on charge happens when you connect it to a wall charger that can't provide enough amps for the powerskin case. I've had the best results with the Samsung charger which comes with the phone but it will also charge properly from a computer USB port. The charger that came with my motorola bluetooth stereo headset will cause beeping when connected...
Anyway, I imagine this battery + case wouldn't be that much larger than the SGS2 + Powerskin... So, if Seidio decides to make a case for it I might buy both. Not much action in the US on the NFC side of things right now so having NFC enabled batteries isn't that important to me.
just got it guys....will do a review in a couple of days, but after i put it, set brightness to 100% and it took me about 4-5 hours to get it down to 15% from 46% seems pretty legit!
I ordered the battery, I will do a little review on it when it gets here.

I had the same experience. I had one for my HD2 & it was very well made & the battery lasted all day, but the t989 version felt like a cheap knockoff or something. Sides didn't fit, the leds were different shades of blue, and it died after only a couple hours. I ended up returning it.
Battery is the main problem with all those phones.one good thing they can do is attack a dollar panel to all the phones or make hydrogen fuel celled phones that would be amazing.

hmm thats not that much better than stock for me, my battery comes tomorrow. I wonder if the s2 doesnt charge extended batterys all the way. Are the volts right around 4.2 when its done charging? and how many cycles are you on?
its way better than stock

i concur i usually last 13 hours, i'm a real heavy user...when i say heavy meaning...wifi tethering, checking stock every 5-10 minutes via browser, facebook 30 mins, weather every 1 hour, 2-3 gmail account sync, watching youtube every now and then. using Tune in radio usually drain a ton of battery for me too.
i had the camero sinio battery, it seems to last longer than stock battery if anyone want to go the cheaper route.
so far the battery is awesome, I have 86% left and its been on almost 5 hours. thats with light use though. Also After a few cycles it will get slightly better.
Edit: 12h 8 min 78%

How's the fitment of the extended back cover? Any uneven spaces and whatnot?
Are you using the phone naked without a case?
The back cover fits great, and I am not using a case. You have to make sure it clicks in all the way so there isnt any uneven space. Also the phone doesnt get that much thicker because the battery in the s2 is longer so it doesnt even look like its that much bigger. I wish seidio would make a case though.

Case Containing Batteries

I have seen cases for other phones that contain a second battery to charge the phone's main one? Does this type of accessory exist for the Note?
they do,a lot of them exist on ebay and amazon. I think ecell sold the 3500, probably their other wares are good. I'd check some threads here if I was you. I think there is a review on some of them

I don't want an extravagant battery. Even just a case containing one the same size will do. I want it a case for the actual phone though - not a separate "carry battery" to charge my phone off. The thinner, the better also.

I own the first one in black. It works as advertised and makes the phone feel protected. THe Microusb port on the bottom of the device is a tight fit and faces backwards to the one on the phone. This means you have to pay attention plugging it in so as not to munge the plug. I have two batteries and this case that I take with me when I expect to need to use my device excessively.
I found this one, I am not sure if it is any good or not but I like that it has a kickstand and I like that it looks somewhat like an OEM case.

Right, I ordered this model yesterday
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120972372225?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
It came today.
From what I noticed so far:
- It looks great. Phone fits tightly inside, overall shape is longer and just slightly thicker than a usual protective case.
- Product description mentions some king of a stand. Don't bother about it. It's just a plastic coin-shaped object which you can slide in the hole at the back of the case (you have to keep it in your pocket separately).
- The case can't charge your phone if you're using it. Its output is only 500mA which is not enough for charge and use. The description at the back of the box states 1Amp but the instruction mentions only 500mA. Phone's battery slowly discharges even when the case is on (there is a button at the back to switch it on/off). Of course the overall combined both batteries life should be longer but if you are close to 0% of phone's battery life you are better of switching the phone off, letting the case to charge it and then switching it back on. I'll do some tests tomorrow if it's better to keep the case on from 100% phone's battery life or drain the phone and then switch it off, switch the case on, charge and switch the phone back on. I'll see what gives longer battery life.
- You can charge your phone without taking it out of the case. just be ready for some longer charging times because of those 500mA.
I don't know yet if both phone and case are being charged simultaneously or first phone and then, if the battery reaches 100% the case.
I'll add some photos later on today.
If you have any questions, throw them in.

I'm just worried about the fitment and how the white case will age.
Just ordered it in white. I'll take some pics and do a short review when it arrives. Estimated delivery is this Thursday.
It would be amazing to have that much battery, but I don't want to lose the Qi charging. I use Qi at home each night or at work if I skip the night charge.
If there was an extended battery that came with a replacement door with Qi built in, I would likely jump all over it.

I could probably retrofit the charging coils from the folio cover to the back of the Zero Lemon case but that would take forever to charge. Does anyone know how long it takes to charge the stock 3140mah battery from dead to 100% using Qi?
Mine finally came in the mail after 4 business days. My initial impressions are that the phone is pretty big now and the extra heft makes it even harder to wrap your hand around the device for one handed use but it's doable. The buttons are very easy to press with the included case wrapping the phone which is a relief, however the case itself seems to have a slightly too loose fit for my taste. I just got done charging the phone up from about 65% to 100% (which took around 1:45). I know the manual, back of the battery and the included business / please rate us 5 stars on Amazon card (which all came in a nice zip-lock type bag inside a bubble padded envelope) say to charge the device for 5+ hours but It's been at 100% for 45 minutes now and the voltage has steadied around 4.3V. I'll be sure to update this post after I get some test data.

I'm surprised no one talks about the weight of the battery because the without it is so light
I wonder we can gain lightness by changing the battery
I also would have bought the battery if it could charge wirelessly. I love being able to just drop it on my nightstand at night and when I am in my office just set it down to charge.
Mines should arrive tomorrow. Anxious to get these charge cycles going. Also ordered a leather holster case that's super sized and should fit this phone with its extended battery.
Can someone post a comparison pix of stock thickness vs. One with extended zero lemon battery?

Its huge..lol but I expected that. I had the 7200mAh one for Galaxy S3. So I'm use to the extra weight & thickness.
The tradeoff will be worth it. Ive barely used my galaxy note 10.1 since I got this phone. Or my Nexus7. Its really like a mini tablet. Last night I ordered me some HD screen protectors & a universal camera lens kit(fish eye, macro, wide angle).
It arrived today! I like the black tpu case it came with. Plus I like the extra weight. It feels more secure now and not slippery. For my type of heavy usage, this battery is exactly what I needed. Time to charge this up.

Anyone know a good portable keychain charger?

I'm looking for a little bit of a boost while I'm on the go, and I like the idea of the wireless chargers with the batteries built into them but I feel like I would never really bring it anywhere...anyone know of a charger thats small enough to attach to your keychain (preferably with the usb cable built in or wireless would be even better)?
Doesn't have to have a huge capacity...just a little extra juice in emergencies would be nice if it's portable enough to always have with you.
edit: after looking around this seems to be the best i've found so far...but it's a little bigger than what I'd really consider "keychain" sized

nice design tho...anyone know of something this nice but just a little smaller? or is this probably the best i'm gonna get?

wondering whether there is a portable battery that is stylish as well. Thanks for the mophie link. Since we have the Nexus5, I wonder if there is a wireless portable battery charger instead!
Bigger than keychain-sized but there are a lot of these cute looking power banks floating around for cheap. They pop up on Groupon, TeamBuy, DailySteals and all the other group buying sites frequently, as well as eBay and Amazon.
There is a whole section on DailySteals right now:

For $10 (shipped to US only) you can get a 2600 mAh power bank either in a rectangular shape (something like a slightly bigger pack of Halls?) or cylindrical, with a choice of colours. Or for $20 something that is oddly T-Mobile branded and presumably heavier, but packs 4000 mAh and has an integrated micro USB cable.
Or maybe this bright and slim 4000 mAh pack: http://www.amazon.com/MOCREO-Universal-Portable-Lightning-Blackberry/dp/B00EL8MX20
There is basically something cheap in just about any shape you could imagine.
Not a keychain but I'm thinking of getting this one.

Not a keychain but I ordered this

I backed this project on kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2088143118/nomad-cable-micro-usb. The funding period is over and was successful funded. Production just recently started and it will be sent to backers in the second half of November. Once backers have received their product they'll start selling it publicly on keroproducts.com, for $14.99.
Edit: Oops I misread, I thought OP meant cable. -_-
I ended up buying two of these: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00FJK02JK/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Because the total came out to only $15 shipped in Canada. No integrated cable but should at least in theory provide a full charge. Will have to see if that's really the case.

I bought a couple of these about a week ago. Nowhere near the claimed 2600mah!
The most I've had them charge my nexus 4 was 25% before they conked out. Average charge was around 10-15% charge.

Darn, well I guess it's not a huge loss. I'll play around with them and see.

Interesting
I think I'm going to pick up one of those Mophies. Small and nice looking....
What about a chargekey? A bit expensive though

Sorry, I've misread as well :/
Don't know if this is a bit small, and it's not out yet, but the devotec micro fuel charger is very key chain sized. Obviously being that small it only holds 220mah, but it could be enough to get you home. Did really well on kick starter.
