How to Restore SGS4 SGH-M919 to Tmobile Factory - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

If you have been unfortunate enough to get the Samsung Over The Air (OTA) Android 4.3 Release and wanted to know how to reset your S4 to factory:
1. Install Samsung Kies Drivers, available from link
2. Install Odin, available from Link
3. Download M919UVUEMK2 Android 4.3 11.16.2013 update, available from Link
I used Odin v1.85 to install M919UVUEMK2 restoring my non-working SGS4 to a working phone. When you boot the Phone in ODIN loader mode shows
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-M919
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Official
KNOX Kernel Lock: 0x0 <-- note this was set by me in my trying to restore to 4.2.2
KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1 <-- Shows here but I was out of warranty anyway
CSB-CONFIG-LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enable
eMMC BURST MODE: enabled
-----------------------------------
When you boot in recovery mode all is well.
-----------------------------------
IT DOES NOT RESET THE Samsung "KNOX WARRANTY VOID: 0x1" flag as per my ODIN Mode display above. Currently I as well as many others continue to investigate this Samsung Knox Issue.
A reasonable explanation of what has transpired in Samsung Knox World is at: link.
A Bit of good news, to root SGS4 M919 Android 4.3 you can use the free Kingo Android rooter @ link.

Wait I'm confused, this is to revert back to 4.2.2?

Notes: When you extract M919UVUEMK2 zip file, extract to directory, copy Odin .exe and .ini files to this directory before running Odin. Also kill kies software which vies for the COM port. If you get stuck at the T-Mobile screen with the white background (e.g. greater than 10 minutes), hold power key 10 seconds to shut down phone and volume up + power on to get to recovery and do factory reset.

Wait... So this reset your Knox warranty flag? No way it's that easy
Sent from my GT-I9505G using xda app-developers app

To me it makes since because the original boot loader is replaced by the new one. So the update file would not be set up to look for these flags and just replace them. A few update from now we may not be so lucky because the will most likely not override the flags and like this update not let you down grade the bootloader.

So this basically just resets the KNOX flag back to 0x0, while keeping 4.3? Is it really that easy to fool the warranty department at Samsung?

I'm sure the whole of this forum would appreciate if someone with a tripped flag could test this out.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah.I'm skeptical. All I've read about Know so far is that once Knox status is at 0x1, it's there permanently. Would love to see proof that the method listed here gets Knox back to 0x0.

Hmmm idk, maybe it'll help me get OTAs if this does work. I kies'd the update while I still had some root files so now my secure boot is at samsung while my device status is at custom, oh well.

Nothing was reset ! the Knox warranty is still 0x1 in the OP example (out of warranty).

The OP said it removed all warranty flags. To me, that means it takes KNOX 0x1 and returns it to 0x0. What's the advantage in this process if it doesn't do that?

Sorry for the confusion on my above explanation. My phone state prior to the above procedure was a mixture of flashed Android 4.3 and 4.2.2 (e.g. NON-BOOTING) due to me trying to use CWR recovery to return phone to my Android 4.2.2 CWR backup.
The above procedure will return a non-booting phone to Stock Android 4.3.

Umh... I guess glad for sharing? But this information is in hundreds, if not thousands, of threads on XDA and all over the web. You're simply telling us how to go back to stock using Odin...
For everyone else:
1) This does not reset the KNOX flag from 0x1 to 0x0.
2) He just discovered how to go to complete stock using Odin.
In any case, he made a good faith attempt and may have helped someone so no harm done. :good:

Thanks!! Do you have a wifi and data fix for odin??

With the above I was able restore to 100% functionality (no problems with wifi or data) Maybe you could tell me more about your issue?

Full 4.3 M919UVUEMK2 Succesfull Flash

hope this is the correct place to post this. i wanna post this to help those that are/were in the same boat that i was in prior to flashing the full 4.3 MK2 tar file. excuse my noobness as i'm not sure if the 4.3 M919UVUEMK2 is bootloader or baseband. if you know what it is, please correct me. thank you.
current rom i'm using is the infamous alpha s4 12.04 12.14.2013 (release date i think) --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2362636. after flashing this rom, there are countless issues regarding loss of data, call drops, etc. prior to flashing the full 4.3 M919UVUEMK2 tar, my issue was more on the side of not sending and receiving mms w/o having to disable wi-fi (after flashing 4.3's modem.bin to change baseband from MDL to MK2). unfortunately, this didn't really help me at all, honestly, til i read:

i've also searched about getting KNOX'd. sure i was scared about voiding warranty, because i have this s4 for about 3-4 months only, lol. in any case, i downloaded the full 4.3 M919UVUEMK2 tar file (read this post from same thread above: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48669487&postcount=4399), and flashed it, rooted my s4, flashed philz recovery (the latest), clean/wipe phone, and re-install alpha s4 12.04. after doing all of this, i was worried again about getting KNOX'd so i double check and triple check and no KNOX -- me very happy. the only downside is that triangle away doesn't seem to work on MK2, so my counter is 4 and, yes i can send and receive mms w/o having to disable wi-fi . i will constantly test calls on this rom to see if there will be any drops or what not, so we'll see how it goes.
hope this isn't TL;DR lol. i'm still very new at this rom scene, and i hope to get better as a user because i can't program worth a damn  also, i hope that this will help or lead others to help them in finding their solution in other 4.3 roms out there.

To answer your question, the mk2 is a firmware version. But if you break it down you have a mk2 boot loader, mk2 modem, etc etc. The firmware contains all these things and their all mk2 version. So you can have mk2 firmware, mk2 bootloader, mk2 modem/baseband etc etc. Mk2 is just the firmware they came from

ofc, please correct me if i'm incorrect about these things. i'm assuming that from this pic on this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=47878403, indicates the phone is in download mode and that that is where to check for KNOX. again, correct me if i'm wrong

Hate to break it to ya, but that is not the mk2 Knox enabled bootloader.
If it was , under system status it'd say Knox kernel lock 0x0 and under that Knox something else 0x0.

i thought i did reply correctly. like previously stated, i don't have another phone or camera on hand to take a pic of my Download mode, what i listed is all that i saw on when i'm in download mode. so, there is no KNOX Warranty Void: 0x0, or 0x1 on that screen.
pretty much like shiny said above, the mk2 tar file that i flashed from jamison904 did not have the 4.3 bootloader in it; and it seems to be a good thing lol. hope that helps.
I am not sure that it did not trip the Knox security..

The only way to find out if it 0x0 or 0x1, is to install the Knox app itself !
Yes, it will let you install it to a certain point & when you try to set it up (if your Knox is tripped) it will tell you that it can't be installed !
Then you can uninstall the app.
---------- Post added at 11:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:45 AM ----------
There is no much discussion on this application (for none rooted or custom ROMS), but if you manage to not trip the Xnox security flag, this app is somewhat a nice to have.
It creates a second UI (User Interface) on your phone with ability to customize it completely differently from you regular settings with some Samsung (I know, many will considered it as bloatware) specially design apps for Knox.
It is useful especially, if you intend to keep some concealed info, documents & videos...etc.

If it's not displayed in the bootloader, said user doesn't have the Knox infused bootloader. So there's nothing to check. I think you're referring to the other flag. The flash counter. Which isn't the same thing as the Knox.

My question really is how did this happen? I thought if you flash that Tar file you automatically pickup the 4.3 baseband and knox with it. Could this be remaining from you updating just the modem? For me the problem is that I cannot seem to update the modem to mk2. I do not really see any advantage of locking the bootloader with Knox and if my screen stops working stupid T-Mobile will find a way to refuse to fix the phone!

Do you think you can point me to a package like that where I will not pickup the bootloader? I have been trying to just update the modem using odin and keeps failing. Maybe flashing a non knox tar file will do the trick to get everything to work properly so that I flash 4.3 finally!
Maybe the OP can also post a link to the package he flashed using Odin!

[Q] Is it possible to get back to a Complete Factory state (with no counters tripped)

My Phone is the N7105 NOT the N7100, I find it incredibly irritating and hard to find the right information having these two phones merged into one forum. Is it possible to get my phone which is on android 4.3 back to a complete factory state with no counters tripped so I can send it in for warranty. I currently have 7 binary counts and 1 knox count. A simple yes it can be and a link to a thread that can help with my device would be useful.
I have tried using Philz recover and auto CF and methods along those lines but they do not seem to be working for me.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help, it is much appreciated.
You can turn back the binary count with triangle away, knox count no.
Afiak you can reset the binary counter but at the moment there is no way to reset knox or downgrade the bootloader on the n7105 yet. Dr Ketan is your best bet for help
Sent from my GT-N7105 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
well that sucks as my knox counter was 0, then tired to downgrade to so I could root n reset the binary counter (i have no idea of my logic there) and obviously tripped the knox counter. So I could of used triangle away on 4.3 and not tripped the knox counter>?
I think so. Triangle away works on 4.3 now I'm pretty sure. I'd try asking Dr Ketan for advice. You can change the bootloader on nearly every other variant so it must be possible on the n7105. Just need someone to figure it out. I've been trying to do a wifi patch for the n7105 but it's bootloader is different to most other versions

[Q] Returning to Stock Issues

I bought a note2 on swappa and I didn't get any service when I activated because my profile was out of date( I think). It came with cm11 so I had to go to stock to update the profile. I tried using Odin to flash Stock but when the phone boots after the Sprint animation it goes to Samsung and just hangs. I've tried reflashing and redownloading to no avail.
In download mode my phone says
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom //Could this be the problem? What does the Custom here mean?
Knox warranty void: 0
AP SWREV: A2
With the knox on my phone now I'm a little nervous to go any further without knowing exactly what I should do. I have been researching this problem for the last 3 days now and I feel stuck. Where should I go from here?

Ok yall I have a brick It was a Tmobile SGH-M919 and the rirmware was M919UVUFNB4. Question, since it only boots into download mode, not even recovery, can I change between M919UVUFN4B and M919UVUEMK2 and M919UVUAMDL?
Just wondering cause I'm trying to learn how to change an operateing system on phones
I've gotten pretty good at rooting and roms now its time to learn something new
M919UVUFN4B and M919UVUEMK2 are both knox enable firmwares. You can change between then but never go back to M919UVUAMDL. Putting on a different rom is changing the os on the phone.
Thanks. Can I simply root and remove Knox? I hate that app as much as my ex wife's cat.
Right now I have 12 hours left downloading the 4.4.2 one so after installation it will be rooted and recovery will be changed to cwm
Oh and why not go back to MDL? Is there a problem with that is or is it just incompatable?

MDL is incompatible with the boatloader, if you have installed MK2 o NB4. You can brick your phone if you downgrade to MDL.

The Knox apps and the Knox flag are 2 different things. They are both security related, but the Knox flag is what gets tripped/set if you every flash a non-stock recovery to the phone.
The Knox apps are what can be used to Shut down/wipe a phone if stolen, etc
If you have ever had the MK2 or NB4 bootloader on the phone, you now have the Knox flag. You can not go back to a bootloader that doesn't have the Knox flag. MDL bootloader doesn't have the flag, so you can't flash it once you've had MK2 or NB4.

Just FYI, the phone has multiple bits of software. The bootloader and the recovery are in their own partitions. The firmware is like device drivers under Windows, and there is the radio(s). And then there is the OS. It's made up of the kernel and the interface/apps.
When you download the stock ROM from Sammobile, you are getting a partition table, a radio, a recovery (stock), the firmware and the OS. Which is why everyone on several threads has suggested you to download and install that with ODIN. It should get you back to a working phone.

Mine trips the counter that says I have changed to a custom rom, so that means I have the knox flag right? Cause when I rooted I uninstalled and deleted the knox app, tried that once before I was rooted and wound up doing a hard reset because of that app

No, the Custom ROM flag is different than the Knox flag.
If you boot into the Bootloader, if you have a Knox bootloader, it will say the words Knox and then have a 0x0, or 0x1, next to the word Knox.
No Knox shown, you have a bootloader that doesn't have Knox.
If 0x0 shown, the the Knox counter is NOT tripped. If 0x1 is shown, then you have a Knox bootloader and the Knox flag has been tripped.

THIS IS INCORRECT! I keep seeing this all the time. THIS IS WRONG. It will NOT brick your device if you try to flash MDL firmware to a NB4 firmware. Odin will simply say "fail" and nothing will get written.
About your issue OP, you need to flash the NB4 tar file in Odin to recover from your soft brick. Then you can flash a recovery or what have you to get back to however you wish. You cannot go back to the MDL firmware after taking the MK2 or higher firmwares. The bootloader will block any attempts(as stated above).
I flashed nb4. Took me all day and night yesterday to download it, but I flashed it this morning and the spare phone is now back in its box safe and sound, I put my gmail address in it simply to make sure it worked, installed cwm recovery and chain fires root, whoever (if anybody) ends up needing it, I'll just do a factory reset and load her up again.

odin mode
product name : SCH-I545
current binary: samsung official
system status: official
knox kernel lock: 0x0
knox warranty void: 0xo
csb-config-lsb: 0x30
write protection: enable
emmc burst mode enabled
firmware upgrade encountered an issue please select recovery mode in kies and try again
The person I got it from said it was working recently and had been flashed to page plus, but did not know what caused the firmware issue. They were not able to provide anymore information than that. I am trying to figure out how to get it to boot back up again and flash it back to Verizon. So far the only thing I have done is download Odin 3.09. What else do I need to do to get the phone working again?
this is the note 4 forum. not gs 4

Was it flashed to page plus because of bad esn

Sorry about that. I posted it again in the correct forum, not sure how I ended up in the Note 4 section.

No, the ESN/IMEI is clear according to Verizon. Not sure why they switched it to page plus.
